Good sound and very comfortable

I tend, if I like an audio product, to keep and use it for many years. This was my first headphone purchase in 26 years. They are outstanding. I had been concerned they would be uncomfortable with the "Over Ear Design". Not so with the clever wings. And sound is as good as I had hoped. Highly recommended at this price point.

Wonderful Headphones

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So far so good. The fit is secure and comfortable. No sound leak even with volume up. The more power you give them the more revealing they are. I`m using a vintage Adcom pre-amp and I play vinyl records on a vintage Onkyo turntable with a Ortofon stylus and the sound is incredible. Love the red color, Aluminum cups feel cool to the touch, literally. Forget the wood for now, if I was rich I would try the silver titanium 2000`s, but the red 1000`s will due nicely. No cloth covered cable on these and probably not on the 2000`s either. I think these are the best you can get for the price, but I do expect and hope they last, the quality seems to be there, Japanese and Germans are known for their quality, lets hope so.

Pros: Revealing sound. Comfortable and Secure fit. Sounds fine using TV headphone jack.

Cons: No cloth covered cable. Cable could be longer.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My previous headphones were Audio Technica ATH 900 which looked similar in design to these. I used and loved them for years before buying the A-1000z based on the many glowing reviews I'd read. I was pleased by the comfortable fit on my head, but liked the wide open sound field and the super clear notes of various instruments instantly upon listening to different types of music. Much more precise than the older cans. Previously I'd bought and immediately returned the ATH M50 phones due to the inferior sound reproduction compared to my old ones. In short the 1000z cans are great headphones if you are willing to pay the price for the much higher quality they offer over cheaper models. In my opinion they are worth every penny. I should say that I had them attached to a a tiny but mighty Fiio amp and my iMac.

They have an attached 10' cable with a 3.5mm plug and a 3.5mm-to-1/4" adapter. The A1000Z headphones are ideal for studio and live work, or personal listening.

Drivers: The large 53mm large-aperture drivers feature bobbin-wound voice coils with 7N-grade (99.99999%-pure) oxygen-free copper wire (OFC-7N) for ultra-efficient signal transfer, superior performance, and wide frequency response. The drivers are installed in lightweight aluminum housings with a magnesium alloy baffle, which reduces unwanted resonance. The top-mounted PCB provides excellent transient response, and improved airflow and precise diaphragm movement, while the Double Air Damping system (DADS) augments the deep bass.

Q & A

Customer Q&A

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

I've been using the ATH-M70x cans for the last year or so. I like them a lot and thus trust the Audio-Technica line. The specs on the A1000z are superior to the pair I use now and will take the plunge. I've spent a lot of time educating myself about hi-res files and believe using these cans and my DAC I'll hear every bit of music on my files and none of the noise. [ Scott  Dec 15, 2017 ]
