Turntable to last a lifetime
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I gave this turntable a 5. I knew what I was getting into before I bought this item. Ex: this turntable does not have an auto return. Yes, it is fully manual. I would love to play a record and walk away. This turntable is a step up to my fairly inexpensive Technics SL BD20D semi automatic turntable in which the speed variation is clearly audible and no matter how much you ground it, you would hear a hum at slightly increased volume. The AT-LP120 hum would occur at higher volume. Not as bad compared to my old one. I don't have a DB meter to indicate how high the volume is before a a hum would occur and the difference between the two. Perhaps my room is too small using 2 active ten inch subs + 2 tower speakers, 3 bookshelf speakers, one 135 watt RMS x 7 receiver and three 250 watt RMS amplifiers all set at 8 ohms. I wanted a TANK. This turntable feel solid. Large feet. Sounds good even with the cartridge that came with it. I am sure someday I will upgrade. I went to U Tube to get more info how to set the tonearm (tone arm balance, tracking force, anti-skating, audio connections and headshell assembly. Pre-amp switch set on LINE since my receiver don't have a phono input. Very happy with the purchase. $50 discount was a plus and free shipping. I have been with Crutchfield since the late 80's and i hope this company keep on going strong. Crutchfield, I just ran out of good things to say about your company!
Pros: Weight at 24 lbs is a good thing. Built solid, excellent sound reproduction, Direct Drive and no belts to replace, a lot of features and affordable.
Cons: The 45 rpm adapter sometimes is slightly large for some old 45 rpm records. Won't fit. I have to use my spare plastic one at all times for the 45's. Not semi-auto.
