Nest Hello Video Doorbell
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Its a Nest product, what else to say. 5 star excellence!!
The Nest Hello lets you see who's ringing the bell — and even talk to them — before you let them in.
A standard doorbell lets you know that someone is at the door. The Nest Hello is equipped with a camera that lets you see exactly who it is, and two-way talk so you can chat with them before you let them in. It sends notifications when it detects people. That way you can see if an expected package is delivered, and whether it stays where it belongs.
Keep an eye on your front porch by looking at the big, sharp picture the Hello's 3-megapixel camera shows you. It has 8X digital zoom capability and night vision that helps you see what you need to see, when you need to see it. You can set it up for 24/7 streaming, and check in from anywhere at any time.
Nest Aware offers subscription-based cloud storage packages that automatically archive a 5-day history ($5 per month or $50/year), 10-day history ($10 per month or $100/year) or a 30-day history ($30/month or $300/year).
The Nest Hello connects to your existing Wi-Fi® network, and ties into your Nest account so it works with your other Nest devices, as well as everything else that works with Nest.
Great video resolution. Easy install. Works as expected.

Its a Nest product, what else to say. 5 star excellence!!
Great video resolution. Easy install. Works as expected.
Pros: Perfect step-by-step instruction via the Nest app.
Cons: Took about 24hrs after install for the Nest Aware to start recording videos.
Nest is the best! After several months of using the Ring doorbell I grew dissatisfied with the clumsy app and poor image quality. I am happy to have made the switch!
Pros: Minutes to install the hardware and the app makes pairing it up to my account a breeze.
I took a while deciding which video doorbell to purchase. I chose the Nest Hello! The Nest Hello's online installation video was easy to follow. I installed it myself in about 30 minutes. Facial recognition and active zone features are not available without a subscription. I now have a clear view of my front porch and street both day and night! Feeling safe! The next time nest Hello is on sale, I will purchase another for my side door! Crutchfield delivered it even sooner than expected!
One thing that isn't apparent about this doorbell is that it already comes with a 15º wedge so that you can angle the doorbell slightly (presumably 15º) and see who is at your door more fully. I also love that it works with my new google hub! Simply say show me my front door and the camera image show up in real time. Awesome!
Pros: Works with Google Hub Comes with a wedge.
Cons: $5/ month for recordings/face detection
Great product, not sure why we didn't get one of these sooner!!
I'm disabled and the ability to check the door without using a walker is a great feature. The video resolution is great. Some trouble hearing audio.
Pros: Very handy for disabled.
Cons: Too many "notifications" Audio could be clear and noise comes over chime box.
Easy to Install. Easy setup. Took 10 minutes to Install and start using. Has worked perfectly since install (two weeks ago). Clear video. Very happy with this product.
Pros: Easy to install and setup. Great design.
Great camera, packed with features!
Very satisfied with my purchase. It has been a month and I have not had any issues. I installed it myself and it has worked flawlessly
This is an awesome doorbell! This is the third one I've installed for a family member. I love how it integrates into the Nest app with other Nest products. The one thing it lacks is a wall plate to help hide unsightly holes left by the prior doorbell.
Pros: Easy installation Easy app integration with other Nest products and Google Home
Cons: Needs to include a wall plate to hide unsightly holes similar to the Nest thermostat.
Love it works like a champ!
Pros: Simple to install, setup, and use
Cons: Need subscription to use all features
My new Nest Doorbell is amazing. I even installed it myself! It joins my nest cam and gives me a view of both the front and rear of my home. I love these products. Buying them from Crutchfield made them even better. Easy se lection, fast and free shipping right to my door in two days. It can't get much better than that. Nest from Crutchfield, the only way to go.
I have had the Ring door bell pro installed on my front and rear door doors for about 1 year now.. i have the nest thermostats so i decided to give the nest door bells a try. install was easy... syncing up with the WIFI and all that fun stuff was no problem. Video quality is right up there with the Ring products, but thats were the similarities end. The nest door bell only detects motion or people if the object or person is less than 5 feet from the camera, anything more than that it does not notify you. It also only gives you notifications for people.. for example , we live in a very rural area and have a lot of wildlife (foxes, deer, ex..) not once does the nest pick up any of these motions. So if your dog gets out , it won't notify you. I have played with the settings, and nothing seemed to help. Also there seemed to be a delay (about 1-2 min) from when the motion event happens and when you are notified. A doorbell ring there is less delay, but with the ring products everything was instant. I wanted to like these doorbells but after about a month, we switched back to the Ring and could not be happier with them.
I have already invested in other Nest products, so I was eager to try the new Hello doorbell. The setup was SUPER simple! The Nest App on the phone guides you through installation step-by-step, helps you understand the wiring on your existing doorbell chime, and connects to your home wifi network easily. (I have Google wifi as well.) It works flawlessly! The most difficult part of the whole process was removing the crummy old doorbell. The video is fantastic, and I like that you get a head-to-toe view of the person at the door. Perhaps the delivery people will stop THROWING packages onto my porch once they see the video doorbell. I will definitely be purchasing a second one to replace the old doorbell at the back door too. Suffice it to say, I am SUPER happy with this doorbell.
Pros: Easy to install, works well with existing Nest ecosystem, pre-programmed responses to rings, ability to set quiet hours
Cons: None so far!
Not so hard to install if you have some experience. There is a lag to load even with the fastest wifi, they should just load a quick snap shot and just do voice that may speed up things. Still at times it recognizes familiar faces and but not all the time.
So far, really liking this. After doing tons of research, it was worth the wait for the Nest Hello. Relatively easy to install (although I wish the wires coming from my house were longer). Works great in conjunction with my other Nest products and my Amazon Echo Show. About the only suggestions, 1) There is a bit of a delay in getting a notification that someone is at the door, but all video doorbells have that issues. Second, Nest really should provide longer mounting screws. The item comes with 1/2" wood screws. I replaced them with 2-1/2" ones for a more secure mounting.
Overview: Nest Hello is a doorbell camera that lets you see who's at your door at all times. It replaces your existing wired doorbell, so it's easy to install. It does not include a chime, so you can keep your hardwired existing chime. Nest Hello continuously streams High Definition video, giving you a clear, bright view of everything at your front door, even at night. It also lets you talk to your visitor through the Nest app on your smart phone or tablet. Nest Hello is also compatible with Google Home, which can announce when someone is at your door. Dimensions: Width 1.7", Height 4.595", Depth 0.932", Weight 4.28 ounces.
Camera: Nest Hello's camera has a 1/3", 3-megapixel color sensor to deliver bright color images up to 1600 x 1200, 30 fps. Built-in infrared LEDs let you see clearly in low light or at nighttime, while HDR (high dynamic range) provides great detail in bright and dark areas. The camera produces HD video in 4:3 aspect ratio which is designed to show people from head to toe, while the 160° (diagonal) lens gives you a wide field of view. Nest Hello streams video 24/7, allowing you to check the view at your front door at any time.
Wireless Requirements: Nest Hello operates on Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n/ac) on the 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands. With 128-bit encryption and two-step verification, your video stays safe in the cloud. An optional subscription to Nest Aware lets you record and store video for up to 30 days for retrieval at any time.
HD Talk and Quick Responses: The camera has a built-in microphone that can pick up sounds, and a speaker that allows you to talk to anyone nearby. The Nest app has a Talk button that turns on the microphone on your phone or tablet so you can carry on a two-way conversation. A Talk & Listen tone on the Hello lets the person at the door know you're about to say something. The Nest app also has three pre-recorded messages called Quick Responses that you can play when the doorbell rings and you're not able to come to the door. The Quick Responses are:
Quiet Time: The Nest Hello features a quick way to turn off the chime. This is helpful when someone is sleeping and you don't want the doorbell to disturb them. In the Nest app, you can simply press the Quiet Time button to mute the chime. You'll be given options for how long to mute the chime. If you have a Google Assistant speaker, Quiet Time mutes those announcements as well. With the chime turned off, the Nest Hello doorbell still continues to send notifications to your phone.
Camera Settings: In the Nest app, you can configure the Nest Hello doorbell camera to suit your needs. The settings include: Camera on/off, Indoor chime on/off, Home/Away Assist, Schedule, Notifications, Visitor Announcements, Quality and bandwidth, Night Vision, Camera sharing, Activity history, Status light, Chime duration, Microphone, Spoken language, Wi-Fi connection, Where (naming the camera), Delete History, and Remove camera.
Nest App: The Nest app lets you know who's at your front door. You can view the video stream from the Nest Hello camera at any time 24/7. When someone rings your doorbell, the Nest app sends an alert to your phone or tablet. The app can also control other Nest products at the same time, including the Next Learning Thermostat, Nest Secure alarm system, Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, the Nest x Yale Lock, and the Nest variety of security cameras. The app is compatible with Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) running iOS 10.0 or later. It is also compatible with select devices running Android (version varies with the device). The Nest application for laptops and desktop computers is available for Windows 7 or later, Mac OS X v10.9 or later, with the latest versions of Safari, Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Firefox.

After much research and advice from others who own the hello video doorbell, I decided it was the best option for a video doorbell. Nest compatibility with other automated products as well as the video quality and features were the deciding factors that made me select nest hello over ring pro. [ Barbara Nov 24, 2018 ]

I mounted this on an extruded aluminum door frame (you need to drill pilot holes) and it works fine. [ Martyn Jul 08, 2018 ]
It depends. Since this doorbell needs a decent WiFi signal to upload the video feed and to real-time audio communicate with whoever is at the door, a metal surface between the WiFi router and the doorbell could act as an electromagnetic shield which would prevent your WiFi signal from reaching the doorbell. However, if your router is positioned on the same side of the metal surface as the doorbell itself, then the WiFi signal may be able to reach the doorbell . then you're golden! [ Alan Jul 08, 2018 ]
As long as the cable ends don't touch the metal surface, you should be fine. However, metal has a tendency to reduce WiFi signals, so I'd make sure your router or access point isn't too far away. [ David Jul 07, 2018 ]
It is operated via the wired connection to your existing doorbell. If you watch the installation video on the Nest website, you'll see how it works. It is not battery operated, nor can it be. [ Chet Mar 30, 2018 ]
