Lots of entertainment options

The MS-RA70 gives you plenty of entertainment options. You can enjoy your favorite AM/FM stations or connect an MP3 player to the USB port, but built-in Bluetooth® connectivity is what makes this receiver truly special. Just download the free Apple® or Android™ Fusion-Link remote control app for Bluetooth from iTunes™ or Google Play™. With the app installed, you can enjoy source navigation and track selection from wherever you are on your boat or in your campsite. Intuitive controls make it easier to manage your music when you're underway.

Get into a zone

Independent audio zone control is a handy thing to have on any boat. The MS-RA70 offers advanced localized menu controls, including zone naming, so you'll be able to customize and control the listening experience in each zone. Two stereo preamps and a sub-out in each zone ensure outstanding performance and expandability.

Ready for your boat or off-road vehicle

The 2" tall chassis means you can install the MS-RA70 in a wide variety of vehicles on land and sea. The designers came up with a clever solution that lets you mount the receiver in the dash or integrate it into a glass helm using a flush surface mount. Wherever it winds up, this rugged receiver will stand up to whatever wind and weather Mother Nature brews up.

Installation note: Even though this marine receiver is considered "DIN-sized", it does not include a mounting sleeve or ISO-mount screw holes to accommodate standard automotive installation.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

This marine digital media receiver will not play CDs.

Awesome but you need an amp

Great unit. Super simple to operate, very shallow depth. only issue is that it is gutless for power. literally wouldnt make the speakers go past what I would call volume 5. Tied it to a 30 watt infinity amp from crutchfield and whammo, now sounds GREAT with a pair of 6" fosgate speakers in my van. Needs an amp to work.

    Pros: simple and effective

Cons: no power. needs an amp to be decent.

It may be rated at 50 watts x 4 but my old Sony CDX-M50IP was noticeably louder. While is claims to be a single DIN size, it doesn't mount like a standard DIN would, so it's NOT exactly the same. I had to purchase and custom make a star board mounting plate for my boat, which cost me $30. I also had to purchase the USB/AUX input extender to access these ports without having to crawl behind the unit, at another $25. The unit does sound good and I'm overall happy with it, but not super impressed.

Pros: Easy to wire up and clear, yet lower than expected volume.

Installed this in my boat with 6 Polk DB 6.5 speakers. I am very impressed with the sound quality, volume and functionality. I am using only the internal amp. The only issue that I had was installation. It was too small for the DIN slot left by the old head unit. The DIN cage was also too small. I had to fabricate a mount with HDPE behind the opening. Other than the install, I am very pleased with the Fusion!

This thing is great! The downloadable app that is offered with this product is what sets it apart from the competition. You can run everything from your phone, which my Clarion didn't offer. Start playing music in your phone, Pandora, Spoify, or library, and switch over to the Fusion app to take control!

Amazing head unit for my boat. Quality is excellent which you can see and feel. I love how simple it is to operate and that it doesn't have all the crazy colors and hard to read font of all the current model head units for cars. Everything is simple and straightforward which is needed on a boat when you are trying to manage music, riders, ropes, water, etc all at the same time. One of my favorite features is the multiple zones, where I can give it a custom name (Ie Boat & Tower) so that I can control the volume from each zone separately. The bluetooth works great as does the Fusion app. I did a ton of research on this head unit before buying and the one confusing part is that it's marketed as a single DIN head unit, which is sort of is, but I kept finding reviews saying it was too small to slide into an existing singe DIN cage, which it also is. The faceplate is large enough to cover a single DIN opening, but the body of the head unit is too small to just slide into a standard metal DIN cage. Then I went to the Fusion website and just happened to stumble on part number MS-RA70DC (DC stands for DIN Cage) which was an amazing find. Turns out, Crutchfield offers this SKU but unless you know the part number you are not likely to find it just by looking at the head unit. If you need to install this stereo in a standard (or pre-existing) DIN cage opening, then order the Fusion DIN cage that is made for this radio and you'll be good to go! Totally solved my problem

Pros: Easy to Use Quality Looks & Sounds great

Cons: Should include the MS-RA70DC DIN Cage as standard in my opinion.

As another reviewer pointed out this unit will NOT serve as a replacement for an existing DIN sized receiver. It is too narrow. I never powered up the unit so I cannot comment on it otherwise. I did not listen to the other review - now I have to send it back.

Fusion MS-RA70.....designed for marine use from the Get-Go!

Crutchfield customer from Long Valley, NJ on 8/27/2018

    Verified customer (What's this?)

Fusion has it's ACT TOGETHER and designed this radio for the everyday mariner/boater. Unlike "car" stereos, where a radio has a constant source of voltage (unless you disconnect the battery terminals), boats normally don't have this luxury. The fact is, the #1 killer of a marine battery is leaving your boat at the dock with the radio turned OFF. A normally wired radio draws a small amount of voltage to maintain the "pre-sets", and over time at the dock, this small draw will Kill your battery(s).. I wire my radios directly to the battery, or even to the ignition switch, but add an appropriate waterproof in-line fuse/holder (this Fusion already has one on its backside) and a "toggle" ON/OFF, so that when the boat is not in use, the toggle kills all power to the radio. Of course, every stereo made today has to go through a series of checks when power is sent to it, but the Fusion Does Not have the dreaded "Demo Mode", and after its series of checks, it boots up and you can use it! Most of you may not consider this a big deal, but a true boater would appreciate the inherent Fusion built-in design, as my marine batteries cost me $300 (each) to replace, and I have 3 of them. No less, getting to the dock and finding out your batteries are dead? Fusion "True Marine" stereos...simply designed correctly from the ground floor.

Pros: Designed correctly, easy to use, sound quality is great!

    Cons: None.

We purchased a used 2011 SeaDoo Speedster boat about a month ago, and it had a broken Jensen radio/CD Player (original to the boat). It wouldn't play CD's and one of the speaker channels was blown. I decided the boat should have a better, marine-grade bluetooth receiver with far fewer buttons, far simpler operation, and it should fit into the existing BOSS MRC5 cover. The boat also has 2 Jensen speakers that I assumed I would also be replacing. The MS-RA70i matched my requirements better than anything else I could find, so I ordered from Crutchfield. The radio was simple to wire-up and fit perfectly in the existing BOSS radio cover. As soon as it powered-up, I poked-around to find the pairing menu - which was fairly intuitive. When I paired it to my iPhone the phone popped-up an option to install the Fusion app - which I did. The sound out of the radio and the Jensen speakers is nothing short of fantastic, the operation couldn't be simpler, and I don't even have to replace the existing speakers. Buy this radio - you won't be disappointed.

Pros: -Super simple to install. -Very intuitive. -Great sound. -Re-connects to phone a few seconds after power-up.

    Cons: none.

    Great boat deck

I have really enjoyed this deck for my 24' boat. The two zones are great because you can run different volumes to each. My front speakers are smaller so it's nice to run them a little lower so they don't break up as easy. Also the high pass crossover on zone 1 is a real nice feature. Keeps to much low end from my smaller speakers. The app works well for volume control and I have had zero problems with the Bluetooth connection so Spotify plays without Issue. The buttons feel solid and very marine resistant by input mine behind a splash shield as well just for added safety from the elements.

Pros: Bluetooth, separate zone and sub volumes controllable on the ap. App works flawlessly on my phone.

    Cons: None so far

This is the most perfectly thought out boat head unit I have ever come across. I own and am the main driver of a wake boarding boat. Which means you have to have eyes in the back of your head on a busy weekend when both your boat and the lake is at capacity. We are often teaching new riders, in the water, or listening for a rider to yell, "Ready!" from behind the boat. What does all this have to do with your stereo head-unit? The driver is busy and personally responsible for a everyone's life and limbs. When it comes to the music, you want it easy to adjust the volume, easy to control the speakers inside the boat and on the rear facing tower and the ability to mute the music in a heartbeat. The FUSION MS-RA70 has all of this and none of the crazy never used options that make a headset impossible to navigate on the water. It has a big knob that turns for volume (not hard to find push buttons), a bright red button for mute and bluetooth so someone else in the boat can actually chose the music to be played. To be frank, it is simply awesome. If you are considering a new wake/ski boat headset, this is the unit - bar none. The only negative is the unit does not fit in a standard head unit opening. Which, I even found that to be an advantage.

Pros: Big volume knob. Easy to find mute button.

    Cons: Non-standard mounting.

Is not a Standard DIM slide in replacement

    Mark from CO on 3/10/2018

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This is not a review of the performance of this model as I had to send it back. This is marketed as fitting in standard DIN installations. The face plate Dims are standard but the rest of the unit is much smaller. This unit will not slide into a traditional chassis sleeve used hold the unit in place if you are replacing an old standard DIM unit. In other words this unit must be screwed to be held in place you cannot simply pull out your old unit and slide this one in the old standard chassis. Might not be an issue for some.

Pros: Looks clean. Has large buttons. Waterproof

Cons: Still requires custom installation if replacing an older Standard DIM Head unit.

    Marine Features

DIN-Sized Marine Receiver: The Fusion MS-RA70i marine receiver has been engineered to seamlessly replace a standard "DIN-sized" stereo in your boat, vessel, or watercraft without the need to reconfigure or modify the cutout opening. Four screws (supplied) fasten the receiver's faceplate and gasket against the mounting surface on either side of the cutout opening to secure the unit in place. If your boat does not already have a cutout opening for a "DIN-sized" radio, then the MS-RA70i will require a rectangular cutout in the bulkhead for inserting the chassis (optional mounting sleeve is available and sold separately). You can even remove the receiver's pre-installed trim-ring and flush mount the receiver for a stunning glass helm finish.

    • Chassis or Cutout Width = 6.375"
    • Chassis or Cutout Height = 1.9375"
    • Cutout Depth = 4.0"
    • Nose Width = 7.4375"
    • Nose Height =  2.375"
    • Nose Depth = 1.0"
    • Screw Hole Spacing = 6.8125" (w) x 1.5625" (h)

Note: Even though this marine receiver is considered "DIN-sized", it will not fit in standard automotive "single-DIN" installations because it lacks required hardware and its front-panel (face-plate) is too large.

Marine Certified: The Fusion MS-RA70i is designed and engineered specifically for use on the water, and complies with both IPx3 & iPx7 water resistant standards.

    • iPx3 Glass-Filled Composite Chassis: Structurally rigid and incredibly lightweight, the unit's glass-filled composite chassis improves environmental protection and electrically isolates the chassis for complete reliability with an iPx3 rating. The receiver's chassis also features an aluminum side-fin heat sink with VCT cooling, removing the need for an external cooling fan.
    • iPx7 Front-Panel & Optically Bonded LCD: With an IPx7 front-panel and an optically bonded LCD to improve durability and optimize daylight viewing, the MS-RA70i is ready for the marine environment. You can adjust the brightness & contrast of the LCD. The LCD screen's backlight turns offs after approximately 60 seconds of inactivity to reduce battery drain; press any key on the unit to restore the backlight.

    Variety of Sources

Bluetooth Audio Streaming: The MS-RA70i marine stereo features built-in Bluetooth 2.0 with support for wireless music streaming from almost any Bluetooth-enable device. The Fusion MS-RA70i supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth-enabled device. The MS-RA70i will wirelessly playback stored music and music apps on your Bluetooth device. The unit will also be able to control basic playback functions, such as Play/Pause & Skip Next/Previous. Advanced music control of your music apps will still need be done via your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. In addition, song/artist information is displayed on the receiver's LCD screen.

Note: This unit does not support Bluetooth hands-free communication for making and answering phone calls.

USB Mass Storage Devices: The Fusion MS-RA70i marine stereo features a rear-panel USB (type-A) port which enables connection of USB mass storage class (MSC) devices like a USB thumbdrive, flash drive, or MSC compatible audio player formatted in FAT32. You can insert a compatible USB MSC device into the head unit's USB port for playback of MP3 music files with Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, and Random/Repeat control, plus song/artist info. Each folder on the storage device can contain a maximum of 250 MP3 files. When the MS-RA70i is turned on, USB devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the receiver's USB port (max. 1A).

Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0): The Fusion MS-RA70i supports Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0), which lets  you connect your Android smartphone (OS 4.1-7.1.2) to the unit's rear-panel USB port and listen to stored music and music apps from your Android device through the Fusion marine receiver. You'll be able to control basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track. Other advanced music navigation will still be done from your Android smartphone's touchscreen. In this mode, the marine receiver will not display song/artist information; you'll continue to view song/artist information from the Android device's touchscreen. You'll still be able to access other functions and applications from your Android smartphone's touchscreen, while listening to music through the receiver. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.
Note: This stereo is not compatible with Android devices in MTP or PTP mode.

iPod/iPhone Direct Connection: The unit's rear-panel USB port can be used to connect your Lightning-connector iPod/iPhone with the cable that came with your Apple device. The MS-RA70i supports audio playback, basic control (Play/Pause & Previous Next Track), song/artist information, and charging of your compatible Apple device. iPod/iPhones with iOS 6.0+ allow you to continue to access your Apple device's touchscreen while connected in order to access other applications; iPod/iPhone devices with earlier iOS will be locked during connection. • The MS-RA70i's USB port is not compatible with 30-pin Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad devices.
    • If you connect an Apple device to the USB port on the marine stereo, you must either disable Bluetooth device, or unpair the Bluetooth connection from the stereo to avoid possible media-playback issues.
    • Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.

RDS AM/FM Tuner: The MS-RA70i marine stereo features a built-in AM/FM radio that offers manual, seek, and preset tuning. You can store up to 15 FM station presets and 15 AM station presets. The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist & track information when listening to compatible AM/FM stations. You can also select between US and European tuning.

Aux Input: Fusion's MS-RA70i marine stereo is fitted with a rear-panel stereo RCA auxiliary input for connecting an external audio device, other than an iPod/iPhone or Android smartphone. You can adjust the gain for the connected auxiliary device to achieve a volume level similar to that of other media sources. You can adjust the gain from - 9dB to +9dB in 1dB increments.

    Audio Section

Dual Zone: The MS-RA70i marine stereo supports Dual Zone which enables two audio Zones with independent volume control from the receiver's built-in amplifier and pre-outs. Each audio Zone will play the same source, but offers independent volume control of each Zone.

25W x 4Ch Amplifier: The Fusion MS-RA70i is equipped with a 25W RMS/50W Peak x 4 channel amplifier for driving two pair of full-range marine speakers in different zone (1 pair of speakers in Zone 1 and 1 pair of speaker Zone 2) with separate volume control. The receiver's amplifier components are optimally configured for the side-fin aluminum heat sink, producing greater thermal efficiency.

Zone 1/Zone2 & Sub Pre-Outs: The MS-RA70i is also equipped with stereo RCA Zone 1 and Zone 2  pre-outs for connection of external amplifiers and speakers in two separate locations on your watercraft, plus two mono sub pre-outs for connection of an amplifier and sub, or powered sub in Zone 1 only. The Zone 1 & Zone 2 pre-outs have independent volume control. The sub pre-outs' volume level are controlled by Zone 1. You can set the sub pre-outs' low-pass filter to 55, 85, 120, or 160Hz.

Rotary Volume: The MS-RA70i features a rotary volume dial which controls the volume level for Zone 1 and Zone 2.

3-Band EQ: You can adjust the MS-RA70i's Bass, Midrange, & Treble independently from -15 to + 15 to fine tune your marine audio system.

Mute: The marine stereo's audio output can be muted with a press of a button on the front-panel.

    App Control

Fusion-Link Remote Control App: Download the Fusion-Link remote control app onto your Bluetooth-connected Apple iPod/iPhone (iOS 6.0+) or Android smartphone (OS 2.2+) and turn your mobile device into a wireless remote control from the Fusion MS-RA70i marine stereo. Once downloaded, the app will allow navigation of all music sources, independent volume zone control, and menu adjustments.

Fusion-Link Lite App: Download the free Fusion-Link Lite app from the Connect IQ Store to enable wireless control via ANT technology from a compatible Garmin watch (sold separately).

Optional ANT Wireless Technology: The Fusion ARX Remote (MS-ARX70, sold separately) is an ANT wireless stereo remote. ANT is an ultra-low-power (ULP) wireless networking protocol operating in the 2.4GHz band with a wireless range of 33'. Able to interface with the Fusion MS-RA70i stereo, the ARX Remote provides wireless localized volume level and global source control.

    Q
If my buddies and I each have one of these in our boats can they be connected wirelessly to each other so they all play the same music out all the boats from one phone source?

i do not believe that is an option here. I've toyed around with mine a lot and never came across a setting that would allow that, BUT there may be something I am over looking. Your absolute best bet is to head to crutchfield site and live chat with a CSR, my guy helped me with everything down to footage of wire needed for my boat. NOt sure if this helps. BUT i love this unit! Very powerful and very user friendly. And the size allowed me to put in a specific spot on my boat.

About a 99% chance it does. I've never see a USB on a head unit not have power to it's power pins.

I'm not sure I don't use it. I can say it's the best Marine head unit I've purchased the BT connectivity is awesome and crystal clear. My suggestion is to pair it with an amp.

Not very well at all (no different than any other stereo though). If you do not have an antenna, you'll definitely want to add one: https://www.crutchfield.com/g_424850/Marine-Antennas.html?tp=65600

Does it work through fusion link so you can operate it via fish finders that have fusion link?

    A
    I don't know.
    [ DAVID  Jun 13, 2018 ]
    A
This receiver is not compatible with Fusion-Link (it can work with Fusion-Link Remote Control App and Fusion-Link Lite App) which means it cannot work with those fish finders. We do have Fusion radios that can work with those fish finders. I'm not sure the team @ Crutchfield could possibly help with your question. I will say it is a excellent unit and would not hesitate to buy other Fusion products.

Is there a backstop mount for the MS RA70? I plan to mount this on my motorcycle and concerned about supporting the rear of the stereo unit. The current stereo in my motorcycle is a Sony Marine and has a backstrap

The head unit is so light weight, that the front mounts hold it secured in place in my bouncing off-road jeep. Great blue tooth. You will not be disappointed.

Not to my knowledge, make sure you have enough depth too.
