Our take on the V-MODA Crossfade LP2

I'm trying to decide what's stronger, the V-MODA Crossfade LP2's full, detailed bass, or the headphones themselves. I'd say it's a toss-up. From the solid metal earcups to the flexible, rugged headband, they feel sturdy and built to last. And as soon as I placed the attractive 'phones over my ears, I got a healthy amount of low end, without having to crank it up too loud.

Rock-solid bass from heavy-duty headphones

The V-MODA Crossfade LP2 headphones are extremely durable and pack some serious low-end muscle. They fit inside an "exoskeleton" hard case.

And as soon as I placed the attractive 'phones over my ears, I got a healthy amount of low end, without having to crank it up too loud.

The Crossfade LP2 gave electronic and hip-hop songs in my playlist a substantial foundation, the same beating musical pulse you might feel in the club or at a show. At the same time, there was a deep sense of presence, with mids and highs feeling closer and clear. Other types of music fared well too. Anything with strong percussion and a solid bassline had a delightful bounce through these headphones.

Constructed for comfort and durability

While the Crossfade LP2s look and feel extra-rugged, they fit quite comfortably. It probably has a lot to do with the memory foam earpads and the headband ergonomics. It's a snug fit for sure, which is a good thing — noise stays out. But I never felt like my head was being squeezed (V-MODA even offers optional extra-padded ear cushions).

And they'll stand up to life and listening on the go. V-MODA puts the Crossfade LP2s through a quality and stress assessment that's beyond military standards. Even the included cables are reinforced with Kevlar®. You get a cable with a one-button remote and mic for taking phone calls, and another cable that's extended, for more freedom while you listen.

Customize your 'phones

V-MODA goes to great lengths to make sure their headphones fit your needs and taste. A BoomPro mic cable is available for video games, Skype®, or podcasting. You can also switch out the metal shields on the earcups. An extra set of gunmetal shields are included, and V-MODA will laser-engrave personalized replacement plates with your own design or message.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Amazing headphones with best sound quality. Plus it comes with a beautiful design and customization options. Loved the bass produced, lows are strong and punchy could work a little on the highs but after listening to these you might not mind that. Other thing that they can improve is provide the xtra large ear pads along with the headphones.

Pros: Brilliant bass production, Amazing after sales services.

Cons: None

Great sounding and comfortable, at a price that cannot be beat. LP2's give a sound that compares to headphones that are much more expensive. So glad these were my choice!

Excellence should come with options

August E from Washington on 5/8/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Cons first, and they're pretty specific. These are not noise-cancelling headphones. Despite being closed back, a decent amount of sound leaks out, (a bit obnoxious as I often write with my girlfriend in bed) and in. There's enough passive reduction that i don't have to crank my music to hear it walking down the street or being on the bus, but sound definitely comes in. The only other thing is that I ended up purchasing the XL headphone pads, which cost me 20 bucks extra. These headphones are pretty damn comfy on their own, and my ears are a bit larger, but since they offer options, it'd be nice to have that option at purchase, or send the XL ones in as extra for people like me. 20 bucks just seems a bit steep, even though it also comes with a replacement pair of the regular size pads. Just an extra unnecessary purchase. Outside of all that, I love them. I had to burn them in when I first got them -- the sound felt a bit dulled -- but after that they sound great, with basically all kinds of music but the bass response is awesome. If you listen to techno or electronica or hip-hop these will definitely do you fine, and Rodrigo y Gabriela sounds as good on these things as anything else I've ever listened to (admittedly I am not an audiophile.) All in all, for $200 these headphones are a good, comfortable, high quality buy that I expect to last me a long time. (Titanium baby!)

Pros: Good sound, solid build, clean aesthetic.

Cons: Allows too much sound in and out, should have come with larger pads in box (IMO)

Product Research

Overview: The V-Moda Crossfade LP² over-ear headphones feature an immersive 3D soundstage, and a rugged metal construction, built to withstand the rigors of everyday life. The headphones include two interchangeable cables, and fold for storage in the tough hard-shell carry case. In addition, an extra set of metal shields (gunmetal) is included.

Over-ear Design: The LP²s have a circumaural (over-the-ear) design that's designed to isolate outside noise, and minimize sound leakage. The supple Bliss Memory Foam cushions naturally form to your ears, providing ergonomic comfort, and creating a seal to shut out external distractions.

50mm Drivers: The Crossfade LP² headphones have V-Moda's LP-Class "Live Play" sound signature, with large 50mm Dual-Diaphragm drivers with inner and outer rings that separate the bass from bleeding into the mids and highs. Made with master-crafted materials, the drivers deliver deep, precise bass, lifelike vocals, and crystal clear highs. V-Moda uses more expensive driver components than other headphones in this price range, and quality tests them at 6 different frequencies for more consistency.

Metal Construction: The headphones are built and tested beyond military-level quality standards (MIL-STD-810G). Unlike the plastic headphones from their competitors, the Crossfade LP²s have a steel frame with interchangeable, aircraft-grade metal shields. The Steelflex headband is virtually indestructible; each band is bend-tested flat over 10 times. The headphones will stand up in high or low temperatures, humidity, salt spray, and UV exposure.

Note: Custom metal shields are available from V-Moda in several colors, and with pre-made or custom designs. An extra set of shields (gunmetal) is included with the headphones, plus the tools and screws to mount them.

Dual Cables: The Crossfade LP²s come with two straight audio cables: the 54" SpeakEasy cable for use with your smartphone or tablet, and a 79" straight audio cable. Both cables have 45-degree 3.5mm plugs, and are made withstand over 1 million bends. The SpeakEasy cable has a microphone and an in-line 1-button remote that can control music playback and phone calls on most smartphones, and tablets. The LP²s include a 1/4" adapter for listening to home audio components with a full-size headphone jack.

Note: For SpeakEasy cable functionality, see the V-Moda Compatibility Matrix.

Exoskeleton Case: The included hard-shell, form-fitting Exoskeleton Case protects your headphones when they're not in use. Panels with V-Straps are provided to store your cables and adapters. A carabiner clip is included for securing your headphones to your backpack.

Optional Accessories: The following items are genuine V-Moda accessories for the Crossfade LP²s:

  • BoomPro Microphone: a flexible, professional-grade boom microphone with an in-line mute and volume control.
  • XL Memory Cushions: larger, memory foam cushions for extended listening comfort.
  • CoilPro Cable: lockable coiled cable stretches from 47" to 12' in length; includes threaded 1/4" adapter. (available from V-Moda)

Warranty: The Crossfade LP² over-ear headphones have a full 2-year warranty. If your headphones are accidentally destroyed, the V-Moda Immortal Life Program offers 50% off a replacement for a lifetime.
