Remote start your vehicle — precool in summer, preheat in winter

Choosing the right remote start system and installing it in your vehicle has become a lot simpler and more affordable with this all-in-one Fortin EVO-Series package. The EVO-GM4 system includes a digital interface module, which bypasses your vehicle's immobilizer circuits so you can start it without a key, and a T-harness that'll connect the module to your specific vehicle.

Vehicle-specific harness simplifies the installation

While not quite plug-and-play, the harness connections cut down installation time considerably, so you do-it-yourselfers out there can save a little money. Fortin includes a code on the package that you use on their website to download and print detailed, illustrated instructions for your installation. In addition, Crutchfield offers free lifetime tech support, via our toll-free telephone number, to help ensure your remote start installation goes smoothly.

Use your factory remote

You start your vehicle by pressing the lock button on your factory key three times. This system lets you start your car from as far away as the key will lock and unlock your doors. Note: This feature works on most vehicles, but in certain select vehicles, the factory key won't work with this remote start system and an RF kit will be required for installation. Please contact us for more details.

Optional RF remotes increase the range

If you want to be able to start your car from inside your home or office, for instance, you can extend your range by simply plugging in one of these RF remote kits to the interface module.

Fortin RF641W 1-way, 4-button RF remote kit, 1500-foot range ($80)

Fortin RF642W 2-way, 4-button RF remote kit, 2500-foot range ($120)

Each RF kit contains two remote controls, an antenna module, and harness. Both kits let you remotely lock and unlock the doors, pop open the trunk, and perform other functions in addition to starting your engine.

Integrates with your factory security system too

The EVO-GM4 also gives you control over your vehicle's factory security system's basic functions like horn-honking, light-flashing, and door-locking, giving you a little peace of mind when you get into your running car.

IMPORTANT:

The EVO-GM4 bypass module requires a Fortin FLU-100.2 Flash Link Updater in order to program it to work in your vehicle.

If you know how to use a multimeter and have experience working with your vehicle's electrical system, you should be able to install this remote start system yourself. If not, please consider having your system professionally installed.

To ensure vehicle compatibility, please enter your vehicle information. Your order will be reviewed by our Car Experts group, who will contact you if further information or recommended accessories are needed.

2009 Chevy Avalanche LS 5.8 gas. Easy install but...the range is terrible. Had to order the RF remotes with extended range antenna. This came in today so this weekend Ill find out if it works. I'm sure it will. Basic unit started the truck fine if I was within 3' and the unit was on the dash with the doors closed & windows up. When I moved the unit below the dash my truck would unlock and lock but the unit would not start the truck. This tells me my truck must have its own antenna to receive the OEM signal but this EVO unit isn't sensitive enough to pick up same signal. Emailed Fortrin and they're resonse was, "change your OEM fob batteries or by the RF extender kit". What a joke engineers are! Like I didn't have brand new batteries, fresh out of the pack, and yes, I always check a batteries voltage and polarity before using. If you can engineer a product that easily ties into a vehicles wiring then why not engineer a little more so it can utilize the vehicles OEM receiver? Also, before you start looking around for a factory hood pin switch; open your hood and turn your key on. Your display will probably tell you " Hood Open" & you can skip spending 2 hours fabricating a bracket, running a wire & adjusting a switch that is already there, hidden in the hood latch keeper at the front of vehicle. My bad, HA!

Pros: Easy install

Cons: RF receiving range is worse than 2 soup cans on a string

After I got it hooked up right, it works great. The installation documents need more info as to where to 'splice' wires. Everything else is plug and play. The directions told me to find the white 25 pin connector with a light blue wire. Turns out, that connector is on the body control module. Which is completely hidden from view in a 2011 GMC Sierra. If they would've said it's located on the body control module on the install documents it would've been much easier.

Pros: Item works as advertised. And it's much cheaper than going through the dealer. You even get to use your current key fob so there's no extra cost for new ones.

Cons: Obviously an engineer designed the .pdf file for the installation instructions. Engineers are usually very smart but I'm surprised if they show up to work with their shoes tied. Instead of just saying find the 25 pin connector with the light blue wire, tell the customer what the connector is plugged into. That way they know where to look. And by the way, that connector has two (2) light blue wires.

I was plesantly suprised when, after a 40 minute install time, the remote start operated flawlessly. This was the easiest remote start I have ever installed. Even the Dcrypter process to learn my key was quick and easy. Truly plug, program, and play.

Pros: Tee-harness makes install extremely easy.

Cons: You have to purchase a module just to flash program the unit.

Features

Overview: The Fortin EVO-GM4 is a combo package containing the EVO-ALL, an all-in-one data immobilizer bypass, door lock, alarm, and remote start interface module, along with the THAR-GM4 T-Harness for select GM vehicles. The EVO-ALL and T-harness are designed to greatly shorten the installation time of the remote start/security system in those vehicles by making many of the connections via direct plug-in harnesses.

Note: This is a complex product, and it is recommended that installation is performed by a professional installer or experienced do-it-yourselfer.

Compatibility: The EVO-GM4 is currently compatible with 177 vehicles, including select 2007-14 Cadillac Escalade; 2007-17 Chevrolet Avalanche, Express, Express 2500, Express 3500, Silverado 1500, Silverado 2500, Silverado 3500, Suburban, and Tahoe; and 2007-17 GMC Savana, Sierra 1500, Sierra 2500, Sierra 3500, Sierra HD, and Yukon. Click here to see if your vehicle is compatible.

User Interface: The EVO-GM4 offers three different ways to start the vehicle or control the built-in alarm system:

  • Using the OEM remote
  • Working with compatible long-range RF remote kits, such as the RF641W or RF642W.
  • Through compatible smartphone modules (such as Compustar Drone and others).

Included Harnesses: The EVO-GM4 includes a pre-wired harness with multiple plugs on each end that connect to the EVO-ALL module and the vehicle's OEM wiring. An activation key to WireColor.com is included for a free vehicle wire color diagram.

Required Module Flashing After Install: Once the installation of the EVO-ALL module and T-Harness is complete, you must re-flash the module. Simply disconnect the plugs from the module, connect the EVO-ALL to your PC and complete the flash, using the Flash Link Updater 2.0 (FLU-100.2) and Flashlink Manager3 software. This allows Fortin's servers to process the high encryption key data and rewrite it to the module. When the flash is complete, reconnect the T-Harness to the module.

Customer Q&A

Q
Crutchfield asked: Why did you buy this?
A
put one in wife's Suburban last year. Easy installation and has been great. Just ordered another one for a friend to put in his truck. Highly recommend if you don't need or want all the bells and whistles of the other high priced units. Bottom line, simple to use and install, works well, and just uses factory remote. My truck did have the remote start feature. To enhance the features of the truck and cool the vehicle before accessing it during the extremely hot Texas summer weather it will be added. [ Josef  Jul 23, 2018 ]

Q
If I purchase a OEM remote (GM 20970808) with the factory remote start button on it, will I be able to program this product to that specific button? I currently have the GM 20877108 remote. (2008 Chevrolet Express).

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
I've heard the factory remote start systems time out if you don't hop in after a few minutes and put the key in.. Does this system do this? I'm going to put it in my carpet cleaning van that has a truck mounted carpet cleaning machine that runs off the van engine. Would save me from always having to go around and start the van, but won't help much if it shuts back off in ten minutes
