Easy installation, amazing range

Jason from ALBUQUERQUE, NM on 9/16/2019

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Purchased this kit to extend the pitiful range that my OEM fob afforded with an EVO-ALL module installed as a standalone starter in my 2019 Tacoma. I already owned the module and programmer, but Crutchfield customer service contacted me shortly after placing my order the ensure that I understood that this kit did require additional parts. Upon confirmation, my order was sent out quickly and I was able to install the kit on the same evening I received it after work. Installation was simple; I simply needed to use the Fortin FLU-100.2 to update my EVO-ALL to the latest firmware version, and enable the "Fortin2" protocol. Programming the antenna and fobs were very simple and straight-forard. In all, it took me less than 30 minutes from opening the box to starting my truck with the new fob. The range of these fobs are amazing. I can start my truck from inside my office and the 2-way confirmation on the fob tells me if communication with the truck was successful. I am extremely pleased with this kit and especially the quality service the Crutchfield team has consistently demonstrated since my first purchase 20 years ago!

Fortin Tech support is the worst int the world! More than calling AT&T

Crutchfield customer from Rock Hill, SC on 5/19/2019

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

2009 Chevy Avalanche LS gas, installed EVO-ALL last Saturday. With OEM remote truck would start if I was within 10' of it. Any further & truck would recognize RF signal (lock, unlock) but would not remote start. If trucks factory RF receiver can pick up OEM remote signal why can't Fortin use this without having to buy the RF extended range kit? $$$$? Anyway, got the RF extender kit (642w Crimestopper) connected it up following instructions, programmed both remotes, EVO-ALL would pick up the after market remote signals (lock, unlock, etc.) but truck would not start. Now it would not start with OEM remote either. Reset EVO-ALL to factory. Re-did basic install, truck would not start with OEM. Reset EVO-ALL again. This time when connected to computer I was informed there was a firmware upgrade. Upgraded from 70.16 to 70.36. Did entire basic install process again. Truck would not start. Reset EVO-ALL again. Connected to computer to restore firmware back to 70.16. Re-did basic install. When connected to computer now I'm informed "Decrytor limit has been reached"! Argh!!!!! Tried contacting Fortin tech support via telephone. They are closed Saturday & Sundays. How stupid! Are the French not aware of the term " Weekend Mechanics "? No link to email Fortin. Just the question section under Support. I made my post and waiting for a typical French reply, "Oh, you stupid Americans, don't reset or program unit this many times. It's not made for this." Returning all if not working in 7day

Pros: Easy install

Cons: Really bad tech support by Fortin

Added the Fortin RF642W RF key fobs to my Fortin EVO-CHR.T5 installation. It was super simple. The hardest part was routing the antenna cable and that wasn't too bad.

Pros: 2500 ft range. You get confirmation that your vehicle has started.

Cons: None

Nice RF kit

Rog from OH on 1/13/2018

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Works great. Programming was easy once you get the proper instructions. The "key on, key off, key on" for the RF kit doesnt work unless you press the brake 4 times (at least on my Frontier). Fortin doesnt spell that part out in the instructions.

Pros: Easy install, great range

Cons: Poor instructions

Fortin RF642W

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This 2-way RF kit is a perfect companion to a Fortin system. I previously had a standard 1-way RF kit installed with my Fortin, but I was not pleased with its short range and not being able to know if my car actually started when I didn't have a line of sight view. This product has exceptional range, which I have tested at approximately 2000 feet (inside of a building and vehicle was in a heavily congested parking lot). Besides the fantastic range, I am very pleased with the remote providing verification that my vehicle actually started. Now onto installation, the process is very simple to install. The vehicle antenna install and the programming was simple and straight forward. Crutchfield was great in contacting me after I purchased the item to verify that I had the Fortin Flash Link Updater 2. This item is necessary in order to allow this RF kit to work with the Fortin-Evo product. Fortunately, I already had the Flash Kit, but it was great that Crutchfield reached out to me to make sure that I had everything I needed in order to make this product work. Great customer service Crutchfield!

Pros: great range, easy installation, quality product

Cons: requires Fortin Flash Link 2

Easy Remote Add On for GM 3500HD WT

Cole from Colorado Springs, CO on 12/25/2016

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Bought this to go with the Fortin Evo-All system I installed on my 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD. I have a WT model that didn't come with keyless entry fobs from the factory. This plugged right into the GMT3 T-Harness and now I have keyless entry and remote start on my truck for almost $1000 less than what was quoted from the dealership. Installation was plug 'n play. You will need the Fortin Flashlink to flash the system to accept the remotes. Programming was simple and easy. Install took about 20 mins total including disassembly and reassembly. (Haven't checked the range more than about 100 feet, but so far so good)

Pros: Works just like a factory remote Easy Install Nice looking Fobs Colored LED and sound feedback

Cons: None so far

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Another excellent product from Fortin. I installed a Fortin EVO-MAZT1 (remote start/alarm) in my vehicle a few months ago to integrate with my factory FOB. However, the range wasn't cutting it for myself and I wanted something more as well as the 2-way option which I've had on past systems. Installing the RF642W was extremely easy to integrate into an already installed system. I didn't have to make any additional splices, I only had to mount the antenna, run the wires, reprogram the brain for the RF Extender, and then program the FOBs. Didn't even take 30 minutes. The range is awesome and I'm glad I have 2-way functionality back. Really satisfied with the Fortin brand and products after using DEI for so long. Just make sure if you're adding this to the Fortin Family of systems you have a Flash Link updater to interface with the brain.

Fortin RF642W is the best

monoroto from Brighton, MA on 1/26/2016

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I installed this RF module with an EVO One installation after using a REVO 1 RF module that had very poor range. The range on this is phenomenal. The signal goes through walls and I can literally start my car from my office at work. The bonus is the led and audio feedback that tells you if the start succeeded (green led) or failed (red led) and tells you the status, such as blinking LED while running and a red led flash and audio prompt when the system shuts the car off after 15 minutes.

Pros: Amazing range, audio and visual feedback, compact size, bonus opens doors and trunks too, easy installation (with Evo One)

Cons: A little pricey for an RF module, but when compared to lower priced ones, its definitely worth the extra money

These key FOBs worked great once I synced them with my wife's Evo One remote start. The range is amazing! Good feed back response (both visually with LEDs and sound confirmation) as to whether or not the car received the signal and starts.

If you were comfortable installing the control unit yourself, this is a breeze -- on the other hand, if you weren't this should probably be done by your installer. It isn't challenging, but there are a few programming steps.

It does not. This RF remote kit requires the install of a Fortin remote start system and then that remote start system must be programmed to recognize and use this RF kit. My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

Q
2010 Ford Taurus with push start, does this replace the OEM remote. The OEM remote has to be in the vehicle to start the car?
[ Shelton  Dec 13, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
It doesn't replace the OEM remote. You still need the OEM remote it to operate the vehicle. This just greatly extends the range of starting your vehicle. I work a little more than 1/4 mile away from where I park and have no issues starting my car from my worksite. In my opinion using the OEM remote to start is pointless. The range for them is so limited it defeats having remote start.

You can actually replace the battery. Remove the two small screws on the lower back of the housing and using a credit card or small plastic flat tip screw driver pry the front and back apart. Can't remember the battery number for them but they are about $8 a piece and can be procured at any general store.

The Fortin RF642W doesn't include a replaceable battery. If the remote goes out or stops working, you can contact Fortin directly for replacement info at 800-998-6880. I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=159

Yes it does and it works amazingly well. I had to buy these key FOBs for my wife's 2013 Honda Pilot because she was not able to use her original key FOBs with the Evo One. I love that it gives you "feedback" to let you know if the car started or not. These also have a long range and also work great from inside the house or even stores. Definitely worth the money.

Yes, I have it with an evo one in my wife's Ford Fusion. It works for remote start and lock. I don't know I gave up trying to figure out the unlock, lock, trunk, and start. I got the start to work and called it a day. The range is good with it and it works very well. It plays a little tune when you hit the button to start and then the light changes color when it does.
