About the Philips Hue Outdoor Motion Sensor
A warm welcome
A warm welcome
Coming home to a dark house is no fun. Create a warm welcome for yourself and your guests with this outdoor motion sensor for your Hue lighting. It's battery-powered and weather-resistant, and it comes with versatile mounting gear, so you can set it up almost anywhere around your home's exterior.
The Philips Hue app lets you select the light setting or “scene” you want the sensor to trigger in up to three areas of your home — indoors or out. Then all you have to do is enter the sensor's wide field of view, and your Hue lights will come on.
You also get to choose what happens when it stops detecting motion. You can have the lights stay on by selecting “do nothing.” Or you can save energy by having them dim and then turn off. Motion sensitivity is adjustable so if wandering neighborhood pets are turning on the lights, you can turn down the sensitivity. They can probably see just fine in the dark anyway.

More details on the Philips Hue Outdoor Motion Sensor
Overview: The Philips Hue Outdoor Sensor (#541730) is a weatherproof motion sensor that is used to trigger your lights. It can be used indoors or outdoors, and is powered by two AA batteries (included). The Outdoor Sensor not only detects motion within its range, but it also detects light and dark. Use of the Outdoor Sensor requires the Hue Bridge, which is sold separately, or as part of a Starter Kit. Detection signals are sent wirelessly to the Bridge to turn lights on or off, as programmed in the Philips Hue app. The Outdoor Sensor comes with a wall mount, corner mount, and mounting hardware.
Zigbee Protocol: The Philips Hue Outdoor Sensor operates on the Zigbee Wireless Protocol, which uses the IEEE 802.15.4 personal-area network standard to communicate with the Hue Bridge. It has a long wireless range, which enables you to set up a system of up to 50 Hue-compatible bulbs and devices throughout your home.
App Compatibility: The Philips Hue app is for use with the Hue Bridge, and gives you full home control of your Philips Hue lights. When the Outdoor Sensor is programmed through the app, it can turn on lights inside or outside your home when motion is detected, or turn lights on or off at dawn or dusk. Within the full Hue Lighting System, the app lets you set timers and schedules, control lights away from home, set wake up and go to sleep routines, and sync the lights to your music, movies, and video games. Additional Hue products can be added to the system, up to a maximum of 50 bulbs and 12 Hue accessories that can be controlled by a single bridge. The app is available for Apple devices running iOS 12.0 or watchOS 3.0 or later, or for Android devices -- version varies with device.
Note: It is not compatible with the Hue Bluetooth App.
Power: The sensor is powered by two AA batteries (installed). The batteries have an estimated life of at least 2 years.
Coverage: The Outdoor Sensor has a wide angle motion detection range. When mounted between 5' and 8.25' (1.5 to 2.5 meters) above the floor or ground, it has a range of approximately 26 to 39 feet (8 to 12 meters). It has a wide viewing angle of 160° horizontally and 80° vertically.
Weatherproof: The Outdoor Sensor has an IP54 rating which means it protected from splashing water and dust, allowing you to mount the device outdoors in the weather without worry.
Installation: The Outdoor Sensor can be mounted on a flat wall or an internal or external corner using the included mounts. Mounting screws and wall anchors are included.
