Low-frequency thunder

The power of paper

There's a reason that most electric bassists use paper speakers – it sounds warm! Memphis Audio uses a coated paper cone with a double-stitched butyl rubber surround to build a sub that creates classic bass tone while still standing up to the power demands of today's bass-heavy music. The 4-ohm impedance works great when you're bridging an amp or putting together a multi-sub setup.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 180 and 375 watts at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Features

Rubber Magnet Boot: A black rubber boot covers the outside edge of the magnet structure to improve the cosmetics of the woofer and protect the magnet during installation. The boot is removable if needed for tight installations. (No change in depth, only magnet diameter.)

Sealed Enclosures: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Memphis Audio recommends a sealed enclosure of 0.75 ft³.

Vented Enclosures: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. Memphis Audio recommends a ported enclosure of 1.875 ft³ with a 10-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 13-1/2" slot port, yielding a tuning frequency of 40 Hz.

Customer Q&A

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

I currently have a bass tube with a built in amp that accordingly to the manufacturers site pushes 250w at 4ohms. I wanted to upgrade the sub inside the enclosure. I almost went with the BRX1044, but nowhere on the manufacturer's site did I see mention of the amp that's built onto the box being able to handle a 2ohm load, so I'm playing it safe. This should still be a nice step up. [ Julian  Feb 21, 2018 ]
