Proven design

Memphis Audio designed their Bass Reference Series subwoofers with one thing in mind: giving you the deep, rich, soulful bass you've been looking for. These durable subs combine proven technology and materials with rugged design to create subwoofers that will handle high power and keep on kicking.

"Old-school" bass

The BRX1240 12" subwoofer sports a reinforced high-density paper cone that lays down warm, "old school" bass that'll have your vehicle rocking. The double-stitched surround helps this sub handle up to 400 watts RMS, so you can feed it plenty of power. Just add an amp and an enclosure, and you've got the makings of a real bass party.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 300 and 600 watts at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Features

Woofer Terminals: The woofer has spring post wire terminals. They will accommodate bare speaker wire up to 10 gauge.

Sealed Enclosures: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Memphis Audio recommends a sealed enclosure of 1.25 ft³.

Vented Enclosures: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. Memphis Audio recommends a ported enclosure of 2.75 ft³ with a 12.5" x 2" x 20-3/4" slot port, yielding a tuning frequency of 35 Hz.

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

Q
Why would you want a dual voice coil vs single voice coil for a subwoofer? Pros and cons??

A dual voice coil is like having two subs in one, i usually always go DVC, however the way you wire them is kinda tricky, if you want it to run at 2ohm you buy a 4 ohm sub for a single subwoofer setup, for dual subwoofer setup you if you want 4ohm, you would buy a 4ohm sub.

Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.
