Excellent
Michael from ROCHESTER, NY on 5/4/2023
This product is amazing. I wanted something that was simple to connect, didn't use some poorly designed app, and worked very well for streaming high-resolution music. I plugged this in, connected it to my phone and was streaming CD quality music in 1 minute. The internal DAC is incredible and my sound noticeably improved. I was skeptical that a DAC would make that much of a difference but it did. And that was compared to having my iPhone hardwired to my receiver. This is simply the best product in its category. Build quality is excellent. Metal with a glass top. Heavy.

Waited a long time to finally order and the product is worth the cost as one would expect from this great manufacturer. I was able to get my Carver and Bose 901 to provide the great sounds we were missing for a long time.
Pros: Compact, very easy to install, great sound, great connectivity. Nice looking unit.
Cons: None at this point.

Strong, reliable Bluetooth
Alexander from Cincinnati, OH on 2/13/2023
A GREAT product for its purpose: transmit and receive Bluetooth signals for my main stereo system. Great range, too, and clarity. Way better than the many other "cheap" products claiming to do the same thing, some from other well known names. Step-up is straightforward and easy. Took the drama out fo setting up a Bluetooth broadcast in my home - Very happy with it!
Pros: Works better than advertised.
Cons: Expensive.

Good but could be better
Christopher from Dayville, CT on 2/12/2023
Build quality is what you would expect from mcintosh , sound quality is excellent , a couple things could be better . Needs a 12v trigger to allow it to power on and off with the receiver, the glass panel should be on the front not on top and the mcintosh symbol should glow not just screen printed on last but not least make it in the usa like all other mcintosh products.
Pros: Build is solid and sounds great
Cons: No 12v trigger

A disappointment after all the hype.
Chris from Knoxville, TN on 12/27/2022
I made this purchase to pair with my B&O Beoplay H95 headphones for home stereo listening. Almost two months after I placed my order, I received it and immediately set it up with my main stereo (Yamaha RX-A1030), but was unable to get any output from the optical connection. Going to standard RCA, I got audio! Testing the range yielded results that were no better than the capabilities of the TV (LG OLED) or the laptop (MacBook Air). In my 2400 sq ft house, I experienced breakup of the transmission a mere two rooms away. I relocated the MB20 to the top of the stereo cabinet (7 ft high as opposed to 3 ft high), with very little change in the effective range. My secondary stereo (1970s vintage - strictly analog) is located in the master bedroom on the second floor and is more centrally located (that's where my wireless router is). I lose the BT receiver function with the main stereo as the wired connection between the two stereos is one-way. Coverage of the house was improved, but still had dropped signals in parts of the house (using my H95 headphones). This was not what I had expected from a piece of McIntosh equipment and certainly didn't justify the $500 price tag. Perhaps the weak link is the the Beoplay H95, but at $900, one would think the quality and workmanship would be on par with McIntosh. For me, the take-home is this: BT Type 1 is not really much better than BT Type 2 in the real world. Stated range is line-of-sight only.
Pros: Seemingly nice build quality. Plenty of I/O options.
Cons: Limited range (caveat emptor). Does not work with line-level signal.

Superb and Outstanding Sound...but not 100% perfect
Wen from Flushing, NY on 12/27/2022
When I received this device, I paired it with my MacBook Pro. The sound coming out of it is truly amazing. I listen to the likes of Dave Brubeck, John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Wes Montgomery, Miles Davis, and Helen Jane Long...etc. and I am energized in rediscovering how phenomenal my music collections were. Once you hear it, you'll understand why it costs $500. I've never owned any audiophile hifi components, but I think the sound coming through this device is close to that quality, in comparison to the sounds I hear from a McIntosh in a high end hifi store. That was a pleasant surprise that I didn't expect when I bought the MB20. That said, unfortunately, there are three minor cons I'll detail in the cons section.
Pros:
Cons: Cons: (1) Once I paired it with my MacBook Pro, music sounds fantastic, but there are no system sound effects. I looked in the 'Audio MINI Setup' app, The MB20 device is listed and 'play sound alerts and effects' is selected, but there's no sound coming out. (2) The power cable is too short. (3) It's Made in China. I expected McIntosh products are made in USA. I was disappointed that the MB20 isn't.

Reid from Morristown, NJ on 8/31/2022
Hooking the MB20 to my McIntosh MA5300 was simple and direct. It opened up a whole new world of music-- face it, you can't afford to re-buy all the vinyl albums you'd like and many simply aren't available anyway. So, with my phone as my Spotify guide, I can pop from song to song and it all sounds great. The MB20 is well worth the price-- I will point out it's made in China. That struck me as too bad.
Pros: Very cool, very good.
Cons: Not US made...

Wonderful quality and a bargain of a price for the Mcintosh MB20!
Alexander from San Jose, CA on 7/7/2022
I am so pleased with this addition to my old/vintage Mcintosh stereo system. I generally play reel to reel, records and demand audiophile quality sound.. This MB20 does not disappoint! First off the unit retails for only $500 through Crutchfield! What a bargain!!! The Bluetooth connection is highly reliable all through my 2600 Square foot house(150 foot range no problem!)... I mostly use the MB20 with my iphone & Apple Music... Super clean and warm sound although it's a digital connection through the internet to the MB20... This unit produces a very warm and clean sound.... Buy it!! You will not be disappointed guaranteed! Owning all Mcintosh I have to say this is the least expensive and most useful piece of gear I have bought to date! Happy customer here....

Top Notch
Patrick from GLEN ALLEN, VA on 6/25/2022
Sound quality of this unit is unsurpassed. Probably the best Bluetooth streaming device available. McIntosh sound & design, and a must for any home system that you want to add wireless connectivity to. Build quality is top notch, larger than I thought upon opening the box. Would've been cool to have the famous Mc front glass panel with the green illumination, but no big deal. Waited almost 6 months for Crutchfield to get this back in stock, and totally worth the wait. If you're an iPhone user, download Steely Dan's Aja (remastered version) from Apple Music/iTunes. Start with track 1, then sit back and relax. Your ears will thank you for it. Thanks again Crutchfield!!

I bought this unit to stream music to my vintage 1970s McIntosh system from my iPad and iPhone. The music is full depth, not "tinny". The base and mid-ranges are truly there. Very clear sound. Very easy to hook up and use. I bought this for the receiver only as I don't plan to transmit. Just wish McIntosh would have put a blue light in back of their name when the unit is on. I used the MB20 for a couple months before reviewing and it is used almost daily. Thank you Trey for helping me with the purchase. It is a great choice and a nice match to my old McIntosh system.

Good product; bad setup instructions
Paul John from San Francisco, CA on 2/15/2022
Good device - "does what it says on the tin". I bought it to be able to listen to my vinyl via my bluetooth headphones, which it does well. However, the lack of detailed instructions in the box regarding setup meant that I had to call Crutchfield technical support (who were very helpful, but ultimately couldn't solve the issues), and then call technical support at Denon (my amp manufacturer). It took over an hour to get this to work via a workaround. It really should be easier.

Oh, the "Sound"
Christopher from Rancho Palos Verdes on 7/26/2021
I highly recommend the McIntosh MB20. It allows me to seamlessly stream music to my old McIntosh MA5100 that I acquired from my father. For those of you that don't know, old McIntosh equipment has a unique warm "sound", and I wanted to experience that sound again while streaming my music. I've tried a few other DACs but wasn't happy with them-sound quality and/or connectivity issues. As an experiment, I compared the sound quality using the MB20 versus patch cords to my media source and I couldn't tell any difference in sound quality nor volume. So the MB20 is great for bringing old legacy systems into the 21st Century
Pros: Simple, elegant, and sounds great.

I wanted this to be my solution to bluetooth streaming range. It simply was not. It offered not one foot more of non-dropped signal then the 40 dollar "33 foot" unit I had prior. I get that obstacles play a large part and was never ever expecting the claimed footage from the unit, but it simply did not offer any more range then the cheaper units what to ever. In particular situations I am sure this is a great unit, it looks great and was so easy to pair with. The quality seems second to none, it just isnt what I need for my setup. I wish there was a true bluetooth repeater with multiple antennas offered out there, I would keep this unit if that was the case.
Pros: A brick; super solid easy pairing
Cons: claimed range, buyer beware
