The DJI Zenmuse L1 is a detachable optics system for the DJI Matrice 300 RTK and DJI Terra commercial quadcopters. Its high-quality camera and sensor technology work together to create centimeter-accurate digital reconstructions of complex structures and topography. This makes the Zenmuse L1 a flexible, efficient tool for enterprise applications like aerial mapping, inspection, and surveying. 

How it works

The Livox lidar (light detection and ranging) module rapidly fires beams of near-infrared light at surfaces. As these beams reflect back to the sensor, the time they traveled is translated into distance. Each pulse of light can return up to three times with partial reflections, generating a staggering amount of elevation data. These reflections are recorded as discrete points and modeled together into a three-dimensional cloud map.

The result is a finely detailed 3D model of an area, covering up to 1.2 square miles per flight. Using this technology for aerial mapping once required an airplane and aerial crew, but you can now take advantage of it with a remote-controlled drone.

Unmatched precision

Both the visible light camera and a lidar module are integrated on the Zenmuse L1's three-axis gimbal mount. The 20-megapixel camera offers detailed imaging with its large 1" CMOS sensor. The visual feed from the camera is combined with the lidar module's active laser scanning. Both are then cross-referenced with a positioning system that incorporates an advanced IMU (inertial measurement unit), vision sensor, and GNSS (global navigation satellite system).

All of this is performed in real-time, allowing operators to review incredibly accurate maps of point-cloud data mid-flight. They can then interact with the data on-screen, calling out key measurements and making annotations. Because visible light is integrated, these maps are also in true color, making it easier for your team to identify landmarks and make critical decisions in the field.

Rugged and adaptable

The Zenmuse L1 is weather-resistant (IP54) and operates in extreme temperatures up to 122°F, preventing challenging weather conditions from scuttling your mission. The system's active scanning also means your team can fly the drone with confidence at night. This adaptability can be especially empowering for emergency response and law enforcement operations.
