About the Anthem PVA 7
Seven channels of clean, dynamic power
Seven channels of clean, dynamic power
If your home theater system isn't delivering the clarity and impact you're looking for, your A/V receiver may be the culprit. Don't get me wrong — receivers have become remarkable jack-of-all-trades performers. But few can stand toe-to-toe with a high-quality power amplifier like the Anthem PVA 7 when it comes to creating and maintaining a sense of sonic realism.
The PVA 7's rock-solid power and vanishingly low levels of noise and distortion mean than you can play your movies and music loud, but comfortably, without fatiguing harshness. Anthem's high-current design keeps a tight grip on your speakers' drivers, delivering wider dynamics and deep, solid bass.
The PVA 7 is part of Anthem's value-priced Performance Series. Its rated power is 105 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and 140 watts into 4 ohms. Whenever you see an amplifier with higher output into 4 ohms than 8 ohms, it's usually a good sign. It means the amp has a robust regulated power supply. The ability to drive 4-ohm speakers is a nice benefit because these days there are lots of high-performance 4-ohm speakers that many typical A/V receivers would struggle to drive. Actually, if your receiver has multichannel preamp outputs, you can easily connect the PVA 7 and use it to drive your main, surround, and back surround or height channels.
Anthem's proprietary and patented circuit designs follow the company's "Keep-It-Simple" principle, using the fewest number of parts in the signal path to maintain sonic integrity. In addition to its high instantaneous power output, the PVA 7 has the finesse to handle the wide-ranging challenges of movie special effects and demanding musical passages.

Anthem PVA 7 reviews
Spending this much money on an amp is a big deal. I consider myself a very discerning listener, maybe even an audiophile, but I definitely am not spending tens of thousands of dollars on my sound system. I have a really amazing set of stereo speakers I inherited years ago along with an amp to drive them. Over the years I built a 5 channel surround sound setup around these speakers (not easy pairing a center channel with speakers that did not have a partner center) which I was driving from multiple amps. I wanted a single, more powerful amp but because my speakers are bi-wire it's very challenging finding an affordable amp that supports this. Through some research (and this might be obvious to others) I realized I could split the output signal from my pre-amp to four channels and use those 4 channels to run my bi-wire stereo speakers. That left 3 channels remaining which is for center and two rear surround. So a seven channel amp became the solution! I considered other 7 channel amps, one was more powerful but physically too large, another was from a brand I didn't want, and I am not sure I had ever even heard of Anthem. But the size was perfect, the design is perfect, and the sound is fantastic. This amp has brought a new level of life to both music and movies. My speakers finally have the level of power they require being driven by two channels each on this amp. The clarity and depth of music is a big step up from what I had. I am definitely happy with

This amp is outstanding and has excellent sound stage depth and width along with being very musical and clear. I am amazed at the level of detail and transparency a 7 channel amp at this price point offers. There are plenty of other amps which can out "muscle" this amp, buy most likely will not offer near the sound quality level unless you pay double or triple the cost.

This amplifier has great reviews online. And, they are accurate. It is an amazing amp. I really like the sound from my Onkyo AV receiver, but with this amp added on, instruments are more realistic, the sound stage has significantly improved and the sound is more musical. The low noise level is noticeable and is amazing. On the downside: This amp isn't that powerful. I bought it to tri-amp three-way speakers, and currently using it to bi-amp, and for that the lack of power isn't a problem.
Pros: Amazing sounding amp. Good build quality
Cons: Could be more powerful.

PVA Series Amplifier: All Anthem PVA series amplifiers are designed to perform flawlessly; offering stunning musicality, tonal neutrality, and incredible dynamics while driving almost any speaker load reliably under real-world conditions. The power supply is conservatively rated and the amplifiers run cool for greater reliability.
High-Quality Construction: PVA amps are designed and built in Canada using the finest quality parts and materials. From military-spec (FR-4-rated) epoxy circuit boards to multiple high-current bipolar-output transistors; from oversized, computer designed heatsinks to Anthem's own custom-designed robust binding posts, the build quality of these amps rank among the finest in the world.
7-Channel Power Amplifier: The Anthem PVA 7 power amplifier is designed to deliver incredible detail and dynamic sound from today's music and movie soundtracks. The PVA 7 amplifier is the perfect solution for a 7-channel home theater application.
- 8Ω: 105 watts x 7 channel (continuous RMS, 20 Hz to 20 kHz, <1.0% THD)
- 4Ω: 140 watts x 7 channel (continuous RMS, 20 Hz to 20 kHz, <1.0% THD)
Superior Power Supply: The sonic purity of the PVA amplifier design is the result of Anthem's intensive research and development in high-end design. Superior high-end sound begins with a superior power supply. This amplifiers use custom-built, low-noise, high-power toroidal transformers and advanced power supply regulators with high-quality, low-ESL/low-ESR filter capacitors and huge storage capacity.
"Keep-It-Simple" Circuitry: The amplifier's proprietary and patented circuit design follows Anthem's "Keep-It- Simple" principle, using the fewest number of parts in the signal path to maintain the integrity of sound. The PVA series amplifier provides the finesse and instantaneous output power to effortlessly reproduce the challenging variety of special effects in movies and demanding musical passages.
Advanced Load Monitoring (ALM): PVA Series amplifiers feature Anthem's ALM circuitry which protects sensitive output devices by constantly monitoring temperature, current, and voltage to ensure optimum long-term performance. ALM is totally non-invasive; it is not in the signal path and only engages in the most extreme circumstances to protect the amplifier from damage by maintaining the safe operating area of the output devices.
122dB Signal-To-Noise Ratio: Whether it's the subtle (or not-so-subtle) special effects in a movie, or the tonal subtleties produced by the strings of a single violin, the PVA amplifier will capture it all. Ultra-low distortion and a truly incredible signal-to-noise ratio place the PVA series of amplifiers among the cleanest and quietest on the market.
7 RCA Inputs: The Anthem PVA 7 power amplifier is fitted with seven RCA inputs (Front Left, Front Right, Center, Surround Left, Surround Right, Rear Left, & Rear Right) for connecting an external AV preamplifier/processor (sold separately).
Bind Post Speaker Terminals: The Anthem PVA 7 amplifier features seven pair of heavy-duty, binding post speaker terminals (Front Left, Front Right, Center, Surround Left, Surround Right, Rear Left, & Rear Right) for connecting a total of seven speakers. Use 4, 6, or 8-ohm speakers.
Trigger Input/Output: The Anthem PVA 7 is equipped with a 12V trigger input (3.5mm) and 12V trigger output (3.5m) to synchronize power on/off with other components that also feature 12V trigger inputs and outputs.
3-Way On/Off: The PVA series amplifier can be powered on or off in three ways - manually with the On/Off switch on the front-panel, remotely via the rear-panel 12-volt trigger input, or automatically with Anthem's patented Auto-On/Off circuit. Via the Auto-On/Off circuit, an incoming audio signal immediately switches it on; and approximately 20 minutes after the audio signal ends, it simply switches off.
LED Indicator: The front-panel LED is lit blue when the amplifier is turned on, red when in standby mode, and not on when the amplifier is removed from the AC power source.
