About the Papago RAY
Unclutter your rear view
Unclutter your rear view
We installed the Papago RAY here at Crutchfield in a '00 Jeep Cherokee Sport, and then took it for a spin with the way-back fully loaded. Why load up the way-back just for a joy ride? To try out what makes this rear-view camera system so unique — it provides a delay-free HD video feed of your rear view in the included 7.8" mirror monitor. The RAY supplies an ultra-wide-angle view of traffic behind you and loop-records it to boot, great news if your vehicle is packed to the gills for a road trip, if you have a brutal blindspot, or if a tinted rear window makes changing lanes problematic. Oh, and Papago fits a dash cam into the mirror monitor as well.
Mount this wired, weather-proof camera on the rear of your vehicle.
Your new rear-view cam
The included rain-proof rear-view camera uses enhanced wide dynamic range technology to give you the clearest possible picture, whether it's high noon or dusk. With a crisp view that fills every millimeter of your new rear-view mirror, the Papago RAY is a serious step up from your standard, old school mirror. Additionally, the RAY works as a backup cam, showing you an angled-down view of what's behind you when you shift into reverse.
Your new rear-view mirror
Papago makes great use of the included replacement rear-view mirror, which mounts onto most OEM unpowered mirror brackets. It works as a standard 7.8" reflective rear-view mirror as well as a monitor for the included rear-view and dash cams. At any point in your drive, you can cycle through a full rear-view, a full dash cam view, and a picture-in-picture view (dash view inset in rear view).
Whether it's your rear view or your built-in dash-cam view, the Papago RAY is always recording in HD. A built-in G-sensor ensures that if you're involved in an accident, the RAY saves crucial video files onto a microSD card up to 64 GB. Playback is also always available via the mirror monitor.
Some wire-tapping is involved in the installation of the Papago RAY. The package includes a 23-foot cable that connects from your rear-view camera to the mirror monitor.

More details on the Papago RAY
Overview: The Papago Ray is a 7.8" monitor that replaces the factory rearview mirror and is able to display images from the included rearview camera along with the display's built-in front facing camera. The monitor allows you to switch between the two cameras and includes a picture-in-picture mode that displays both images simultaneously. The system also features Papago's proprietary Digital Overlap Wide Dynamic Range (DOL WDR) feature which helps render a clear image in both underexposed and overexposed situations.
Cameras: The Papago rearview camera offers a much wider field of view in the display than most traditional rearview mirrors, helping to lessen blindspots. The included IPX7 rear-mounted camera is both rain and fog resistant, allowing it to be mounted on the outside of the vehicle without visibility issues. The rear camera wiring includes a reverse wire that, when hooked to the reverse light wire of the vehicle, will adjust the camera image slightly downward when in reverse, allowing a closer view directly behind you. The front-facing camera, built into the back of the display, can be angled for the optimum front image.
Recording: The Papago Ray will start loop recording after the system is powered on and the included micro SD card is inserted into the display. Recorded files are 3 minutes long with the oldest files being replaced first when the micro SD card is full. The unit also has a built-in G-Sensor that, when activated by a sudden impact, will automatically record and backup a 15 second file - 3 seconds before and 12 seconds after the impact. The impact sensitivity of the G-Sensor can be adjusted in the Setup menu. The system can also record audio with the built-in microphone and be heard through the small speaker on the back of the display when recordings are played back. Recorded files can be played back on the display or on a computer with SD card reading capability.
