An in-ceiling speaker with individual volume control

If you need to fill several rooms or one big room with sound — and give employees individual volume control over each speaker — the Atlas SD72WV may be the perfect solution. Company-wide announcements can be heard loud and clear thanks to this speaker's 105° dispersion pattern, and its 8" woofer reproduces full-sounding bass, so you don't have to short-change the low end when playing music.

The SD72WV comes with a white powder-coated sound baffle with an integrated volume knob, so employees can turn down the volume during meetings, or crank up their own personal speaker during less formal occasions.

Product highlights:

  • 25-watt power handling
  • 8" treated paper woofer
  • dual-cone design
  • white powder coat baffle with center-mounted volume control knob included

Atlas technical services not polite

Crutchfield customer from El Paso, TX on 6/17/2019

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Speaker did not work out of the box, I found that the factory wires were clamped between the bracket and the speaker frame and had shorted out. I was able to relieve the pressure and get this speaker to work. Furthermore there were no instructions regarding how to match the impedance with the Atlas amplifier so I called the factory. The technician was very unfriendly and was pretty rude at Atlas, but I managed to get the system working.

Pros: Low cost

Cons: Fix it yourself

Little Office, BIG SOUND!

Casey from Deerfield, IL on 4/9/2018

These speakers come with pretty easy to understand instructions for installation. The wiring setup was very simple to figure out. I was pleased with the built-in volume control on each of these speakers. This worked much to our benefit. The sound quality is as expected. Great clarity and a decent amount of volume. With the receiver volume halfway up, these speakers could be heard clearly over 150 feet away throughout a carpeted, in-use, office building. Very happy with the choice of speaker that the Crutchfield commercial team helped us to pick out. Thanks again guys!

Pros: Easy to install, simple instructions, great clarity, decent amount of volume, clean look with white grills, and built-in volume control for each speaker.

Cons: they don't taste good....i don't know. no cons.

Customer Q&A

3 questions already asked

Q
does this come with the ceiling mount kit?
[ Ismael  Dec 19, 2018 ]
2 answers
A
Not really; though, I suppose you could just use the screws and a nut/washer to hold the speaker in the ceiling but I wouldn't trust it to hold tightly. For installation in a drop ceiling, I ordered metal backing plates (ATLAS 8" Round Hole T-Bar Bridge). These were under $10 each and made each speaker install very sturdy -- would definitely recommend these.

A
no it doesn't. I just got them and they didn't have any type of mounts in the box. All that came with it was 4 bolts with nuts

Q
Is it waterproof for exterior use?
[ Linda  Nov 07, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
I would not use this product for an exterior project.
[ GREG  Nov 07, 2017 ]
Q
What is the cut out size for Atlas SD72WV speaker?
[ Jon  Jul 10, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
The cutout size is not provided in the specs. However, it is noted that the Atlas 8" recessed round enclosure (item # 978958--sold separately) and the Atlas 8" round hole t-bar bridge (item # 978818R--sold separately) are required for commercial installation.
