Overview

Our take on the JBL Concert Edition Premium Audio Upgrade

JBL designed their Concert Edition audio upgrade package so you can put high-fidelity, concert-worthy sound inside your Ford F-150 SuperCrew without having to cut a single wire or change anything about your interior's appearance. This upgrade replaces the factory front and rear speakers with high-quality JBL models, and adds two 8-inch JBL subwoofers as well. An 8-channel amplifier with digital signal processing provides your music with the power and tone customized for your F-150's interior.

Crank up your F-150's sound

JBL designed their Concert Edition audio upgrade package so you can put high-fidelity, concert-worthy sound inside your Ford F-150 SuperCrew without having to cut a single wire or change anything about your interior's appearance. This upgrade replaces the factory front and rear speakers with high-quality JBL models, and adds two 8-inch JBL subwoofers as well. An 8-channel amplifier with digital signal processing provides your music with the power and tone customized for your F-150's interior.

JBL Concert Edition

The dual 8" enclosure under your rear seat punches out some powerful bass.

Stealthy install

JBL's illustrated instructions clearly show how to "drop in" and plug up the new speakers and wiring harnesses that integrate the Concert Edition upgrade into your vehicle's factory system. The sub enclosure and amplifier assembly fit out of the way under the rear seat, perfectly positioned to provide power and bass for your music.

Note: For the Extended Cab application, the subwoofer will extend beyond the seat by about 2".

Pre-tuned for your Ford's interior space

JBL engineers measured the physical and acoustical properties of the SuperCrew cab's interior and modeled the Concert Edition's sound equalization curves and speaker time alignments so everyone inside will hear premium sound, wherever they sit. All the components — speakers, amp, sub, and wiring harnesses — fit perfectly in position and simply plug into the factory system. The only installation tools required are a 7 mm wrench, a panel tool, and a wire worm or large tie wrap.

Important Note: This upgrade package will only work with the 2015-up Ford F-150 SuperCrew and Extended Cab trucks with the basic, 4-speaker system. It will not work in a F-150 with the premium (Sony) sound system.

Best Bang for the Buck!!!!!

2015 Ford F-150 XLT
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I started with a 2015 F-150 crew cab XLT. It had the standard system with the Nav. I will honestly say that it is several steps above the factory system. The door speakers were simple to install and they sound great. Nice and clear. The wiring harness that it came with fit perfectly. I hate to see cables and the length of everything was perfect. They even wrapped protective plastic around the Positive and negative cables that run in the engine bay. I love the fact that all connections were made to the factory connections. I didn't have to splice into any door speaker wires. The addition of the sub-woofer brings deep richness to the sound that the factory speakers don't even come close to. **Now, the part that really amazed me was the tuning of the system. The Amp doesn't just run the sub's and the door speakers but it also powers the Pillar and center channel tweeter. The first time i powered it on was the first time i heard the pillar speakers come alive. It truly does sound like a concert in the truck now. The instructions were great but I would suggest watching a YouTube video on how to pull the door panels off. That was helpful for me as some of the panels made me a little nervous because of how tight they were. When I was just about done I realized one of the door speakers had a defect in them. I called Crutchfield and the guy on the phone was very good. I told him what was going on and without hesitation he had a replacement on the way.

Pros: The Concert Tuning by far!!!!! Deep rich base. Grest Mids and Highs. Easy to install. Factory Connections wiring harness

Cons: Takes up all the space under the back seat including the storage area

Speakers are great, instructions not so much

Amazing "FACTORY" Upgrade

Christopher from Valrico, FL on 3/6/2019

2017 Ford F-150 XL
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a factory upgrade not a competition system! But for the price it's worth it. The sound is great it's very well tuned, this system will not give extreme bass to songs that don't usually have bass. This will not rattle the car next to you, but proper music you will most definitely feel. But if you are looking for great range and sound for many types of music that you wish to enjoy inside the confines of your truck this is it!

Pros: Works and looks like OEM product. Amazing sound

Cons: Poor instructions, you better have some idea of what you are doing.

Overall not bad for the price. This system doesn't have the Boom if you had a 10" or 12" sub, but it has enough to shake the mirrors. I suggest disabling the factory EQ setting with this system. It really helps it come alive. I will probably replace the 8" subs in the box, and add a separate sub amp in the future. Very easy to install, took about 2 hours. Better instructions would be more helpful.

Pros: Price Ease of install

Cons: Paper cone subs

Nice upgrade

Bought this for my 2019 ford f250 xlt and at first I was going to leave a negative review because it sounded worse than my original equipment. Then I went back in and found out that I only had plugged in 1 out of the 2 plugs behind the factory amp in the dash. Plugged that second plug in and it sounds fantastic.

Pros: Nice Upgrade to factory sound

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For what I paid for it and what it is it's great! I've always had much more expensive after market systems in my automobiles, so I can't say this system is as powerful as a multi-amp system, BUT, it does improve the terrible paper cone system that comes factory. I will caution any 2018 and up F150 owners - the schematics are not complete for my 2018. In several places there are 8mm screws attached: behind the door handles and on the trim under the rear seat. Plus the door handle is nowhere in any of the schematics. Must be a new thing. A few Youtube videos later and it was no problem. I am only adding photos of the 8mm screws. There is no use in posting pics of what has already been posted.

System was a 3 hour install, sounds ok, but you can get a lot more bang for your buck even for this price tag. One of the speakers was blown from the get go- Crutchfield sent a replacement kit- it would have been cheaper to send me a set of speakers but to each their own. Debating on sending both kits back as I'm not happy with how it sounds.

Pros: Cheap/ Oem integration

Cons: Sound quality, space consumption

2018 F150 XLT S-Cab 302a 7 . WOW! A+ Remember this package was a $2,000 upcharge installed at some dealerships? Do yourself a favor and sound treat your doors, floor and back wall of the cab during installation. I took my time and did it right and I am amazed! Play with your EQ, crank it with HD audio files! Thank-you Crutchfield, for offering this for a great price! East Tennessee

Pros: Connections, DSP, power is adequate and clean.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

2018 F150 STX CC w/6 speaker (auto start/stop disabled) Purchased before T-giving and reluctant to install, but after reading recent positive reviews...installed after x-mas. Turn the key and was like "seriously? You have got to be kidding!" Huge gap in x-over freqs. The highs/mids are 'tolerable', but three sub deficiencies: don't come on until really low freqs (<100hz), can't really hear/feel until high volume, and no adjustment knob to make-up the difference. Go from from music with deep bass and it plays really low freqs (for 8" subs). Then something like DMB- the warm/soothing bass is non-existent. Rock music- forget about it. **Also, setting fade to rear yields zero bass along with speakers that are NOT amplified.** Something is seriously wrong with this system! Reviews state that this system was 'tuned' to a 2015 and Ford has changed settings every year since. Supposedly this can be corrected w/Forscan. It was also stated that these kits are known to be wired incorrectly from the factory. I may contact them for assistance or use Crutchfield's 60-day return policy and forgo this BS 'experiment'...? Drove from CLE-KC-CLE over New Years and it's a little better after break-in. I'm going to fill w/polyfill and look for better performing subs (zero sub/box specs to reference). Unfortunately, this won't fix the crossover freq gap...nor the separate sub volume knob issue. Could it be nice- yes. Unfortunately, it wasn't my experience.

Pros: Plug-n-play (once routed) Pricing (on sale)

Cons: Lack bass control Frequency range missing Known wiring issues

Incredible Upgrade, Great Value

Earl from Cloudcroft, NM on 1/2/2019

This is a great upgrade to the abysmal 7 speaker system in the 2018 f-150 XLT. Sound quality is light years better than factory, highs and mids are clear and bass is just right. I nearly spent much more money on piecing a system together, but the current price of the JBL system made me change my mind. This is a steal at its current price. BTW, this is an "adult" sound system, if you want monster bass and ear splitting volumes this is not for you. If you want a huge upgrade from factory for very few dollars then get this before they are sold out. I look for reasons to drive more now!

Pros: Sounds great, good bass, clear mids and highs.

Cons: Loss of under seat space.

Pros: Ease of installation

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fit perfectly in my 2018 F-150 XLT. Previously installed an OEM Kicker with one 8" subwoofer and 100 watt amp. Sound was terrible especially with the factory speakers. Was really muffled, no highs and distorted base above volume 16. Actually hurt my ears. I decided on this JBL Concert Edition with subwoofer (2-8" woofers), 360 watt amp, wire assemblies, 2 ea speakers for front door and 2 for rear. I went ahead and changed out the tweeters in the front pillars and center speaker with bass blocker (don't want to rattle the dash). Took all day for install mainly because I also installed sound barrier on the doors behind the panels. It takes some work when you replace ALL the speakers. Wiring was okay. Mostly plug and play. Had to disable the OEM Kicker using Forscan software so I would not receive flat EQ settings. I cannot praise the folks at JBL (Harmon) enough. It is really tuned to this truck. I heard instruments I had not heard before with the old speakers and tweeters. The sound is 100% better then factory sound. Very clear and with bass you can actually feel. If you want bass "thump" this will do it. Make no mistake about it; There is no comparison with the factory system including the Kicker Sub. I could not be happier. Excellent service from the folks at Crutchfield. Shipping was was free and received items in a couple of days and I am in California (no Arnold jokes please).

Pros: The review speaks for itself.

Cons: None other than it taking the whole day for install but I am old so go figure...

2017 F250 XLT non Sony At this price it is a bargain for what you're getting. The installation took me around 5 hours. It's not bad at all until you have to run the wires from the battery through the rubber grommet. My advise is to use a hanger that has the cardboard at the bottom and straighten the hook that you hang with. Once you've pierced the hole, run it through the inside of the cab. Then hook one of the two wires and pull it through slowly. Then proceed to do the other. This should save you some time. I ran the wires from the sub down the driver side. Don't be afraid to pull out the panels. They will come loose with a little force. All in all, this system does have quite a bit of bass. Not competition bass but should be good enough and it is many times better than the stock sound.

Pros: Bass is pretty good. Door speakers are a small upgrade

Cons: Running wires from the battery

This is an improvement to the factory stereo. However the plastic sub box has a lot of resonating base. Wooden box would be much better. I will replace the plastic for a wood sub box. Basically I got this for the wire harness. To re-wire the entire system is too much work. Also the doors now need noise deadening material as they have resonating bass as well.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. It is a great buy at this price. I installed this system in my 2018 F150 XLT Supercrew 4x4. I will say that the instructions was very vague. I previously installed a Kicker Soundgate in my 2011 F150 and the install on both systems are very similar. As for sound quality my last 2015 F150 Larait had the factory Sony system, this JBL system sounds better and produces more bass.

Pros: Price, plug and play, plenty of bass

Cons: Vague instructions, loss of storage space under rear seat.

Much improvement

I wear haring aids and the factory radio was not clear enough when I increased the volume. After the installation I was able to hear just about everything much more clearly. I can crank up the volume and enjoy music again. Much improved over factory. Plug and play was right on but the directions could be improved a little, especially on door panel removal. Took 4.5 hours to install but I am retired and am no longer in a hurry. Vary satisfied.

Pros: plug and play, no splicing installation was easy happy with the results

Cons: Instruction on door panel removable could be a little better loss of storage under the rear seat but that was properly advertised.

Great upgrade to the factory system

Nathan from Mount Sterling, KY on 5/24/2018

2017 Ford F-150 Lariat
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great upgrade to the factory sound system at the current price. When researching this product, many reviews I found complained that this product doesn't deliver, but here are my thoughts: This isn't an in your face, unbalanced boombox. The subs aren't super powerful, and aren't designed to be. The amplification for the door speakers and center channel are calibrated correctly and are also time aligned. The soundstage is somewhere between the dash and hood in front of you, just like its supposed to be. I understand that most people either don't understand that recorded music is supposed to recreate a live performance, with a stage in front of you and those people will not like this upgrade. My recommendation is to install this upgrade, select the "driver" position setting in the factory head unit and play some actual music that has instruments other than a drum machine and listen. No cutting or splicing is involved and the you can't tell it's installed by looking other than losing under seat storage in the back of the truck. I would have given 5 stars for the product at the current price if the bean counters at JBL didn't cheap out and include 5x7s for the front doors when the factory speakers are 6x9s. There is a huge difference in bass response between the two speaker sizes, so do yourself a favor and pick up the JBL 6x9s from the same series when you make your purchase and use them instead.

Pros: Easy install and factory fit

Cons: Comes with 5x7s instead of 6x9s for the front doors.

Richard from Chesapeake, VA on 3/31/2018

2018 F-150 with only 6 speakers stock. This setup replaced all the door speakers and leaves the stock tweeters in place. Direct plug and play into back of factory touch screen SYNC screen. Followed Crutchfield's MasterSheet directions to remove door panels and switch out 6x9's in the front and 6.5's in the rear. Got it on sale. Very saitisfied and huge improvement over stock setup. Install difficulty-2/5 Oem fitment- 5/5 Audio quality- 4/5

Pros: Oem integration, very simple plug and play. Huge improvement in range and quality of sound.

Cons: Lack of adjustment on amp, however probably for the best for most users since JBL knows which speakers and subs the amp is driving. Awesome addition would have been an RCA out from the amp for even more audio future fun.

Very Minor Upgrade for 7 speaker system

Brandon from Orange, CA on 3/26/2018

2017 Ford F-250 XLT
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I waited until this went on a really good sale before pulling the trigger. Reading a bit, some people paid close to $2k for this system from dealers and other retailers. I purchased it on sale. It is barely an upgrade to the 7 speaker system that came in my 2017 F250 XLT. The only real difference is the additional bass from the subwoofer. Do not expect anything like an aftermarket 8" sub/amp combo. The subwoofer in this kit provides a little more bass than is provided by the door speakers in the stock 7 speaker system. The actual coaxial speakers are an upgrade from the stock speakers in terms of build quality and magnet size, but I don't think it matters as I imagine the JBL amp output is not a significant change from the OEM amp. The one huge pro here is that the install is very clean and doesn't require one to cut any factory wires to install it. Once installed, you don't even notice it's there visually. I would not recommend this as an upgrade to the 7 speaker system. It provides a small amount of additional bass, but nothing close to other options. It "MAY" be an upgrade to the basic 4 speaker system, but I don't know that for sure. If you want additional bass in the 7 speaker system, you may want to try the Kicker options or use an aftermarket sub/box/amp combo and a line output converter.

Pros: OEM interface is clean. This is plug and play for the most part and looks factory installed. The only part that isn't is the power and ground wires, which really is minimal.

Cons: Is not a noticeable upgrade from the basic 7 speaker system. It may be an upgrade for the stock 4 speaker system, however.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When cranked up, it sounds great. At lower volumes, it seems a little flat. I think if there was more adjustment in the settings, it could be worked around. The source definitely matters. Using the Sirius feed (now that they have lowered their bit rate), it didn't sound that great. But music from my library on my iPhone sounded great. I am still puzzled why they don't include a replacement center speaker or the tweeters in the A pillars. I may investigate changing those out down the road. But vastly superior to stock. I actually wrote a bit of a manifesto about the installation, but when I pasted it here, it was too long. Short version: Instructions not up to Crutchfield standards. Had to find them on the web at a competitor because Crutchfield doesn't have them for the JBL system. Had to search the web also to find the trick to release the door latch cables; not mentioned by Crutchfield's or JBL's instructions. No means supplied to connect the four power cables of the main harness to the two cables from the power harness and the power harness was too short to pull it out far enough to safely solder it. Fortunately, I have a garage full of parts and I solved it, but I suspect the average person just uses wire nuts, which is not good.

Pros: Retains clean factory look. Nice wiring harnesses. Sound is vastly improved over stock.

Cons: Installation was a little tedious at points with some gaps in the instructions.

2015 Ford F-150 XLT
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this kit simply for the ease of installation, and it can't get much easier me and my wife put it together in a little under 3 hours. There are no instructions included but I found a set under car guys website (if you order this you will get a card of the salesman who put the package together. I called him and he emailed me directions. All in all sound quality wise I would give 3 out of 5 the subs do a good job of hitting hard and filling the truck with bass and speakers do sound better. One thing to note is there is no gain switch for the subs so I have to turn my volume up to 75% to get good bass out of this system. Also the system requires you to use your factory tweeters and center channel speaker. All in all I would not purchase again the kit is nice and super easy to put together but I would rather have a nice polk setup and there is plenty of youtube videos on how to wire in a sub and amp to this setup.

Pros: good deal for the price Ease of installation

Cons: Use factory tweeters and center channel speaker No gain switch for sub

The sound system is finally as nice as the truck

2016 Ford F-150 XLT
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had a 2010 F150 in which I bought the Kicker system for $1249 and 4 Infiniti Speakers for around $200. So total investments was around $1450. Fast forward 6 years and I trade my 2010 for a 2016 F150 XLT. It has everything I wanted on it, but the stereo system was miserable. So I shopped around and bought the JBL system. For $850 you get 2 (8) inch subs instead of 1 with the kicker system. You get 4 JBL speakers included. So you ask how does it sound? I believe it sounds a little better than the kicker system. The two 8(s) definitely give you more punch, and the overall volume and clarity is comparable to the Kicker system. It may be a touch louder. So in summary the system costs 62% of the cost of the kicker. Now my kicker was completely trouble free for 6 years so the jury is out on the JBL quality, but the amp and sub seem to be constructed of high quality, heavy components. The JBL amp is made by a long time home and auto manufacturer, and there is no reason to expect it not to last. It does have a 3 year warranty. Installation was about the same difficulty as the Kicker system. The kicker does have 2 amps, one of which has to be installed under the drivers side dash. The single JBL amp runs the subs and the 4 speakers and is already mounted on top of the sub. Some people said it took them 4 hours but for me it was more in the neighborhood of 8. I don't believe you could build this system with the components for the $899. Additionally you get completely stock!

Pros: All factory fitting, no wire cutting. Sounds great for the money

Cons: None that I can find

Price, Price, Price,,, If you purchased these items separately it would cost a lot more. This system sold for over a thousand dollars when It first came out why wouldn't you buy it for 399.00 [ bubba  Jan 27, 2019 ]
Price and most reviews were positive. [ Timothy  Jan 26, 2019 ]
Easiest, likely the cheapest path, seemingly addressing most if not all of the problems with Ford's cheap stereo. [ Jay  Jan 16, 2019 ]
It will be a huge improvement over the stock system without being invasive. [ Tracey  Jan 13, 2019 ]

I was originally hesitant due to the price. I am interested in trying it at the sale price. I liked the fact that it is plug and play. I upgraded the system on my 2013 F150 and it was a bit more involved. [ Sean  Sep 20, 2018 ]
They are quality components at a great price. [ justin  Jun 08, 2018 ]

Not on supercab. This product is a waste of money. [ Clint  Jan 04, 2019 ]
No it's a tight squeeze and you got the Jack back there [ JESUS  Jan 04, 2019 ]
No. It is formed to fit under seat and is too large to go behind the seat. [ Dan  Jan 04, 2019 ]
No, the subwoofer enclosure is designed to mount in factory supplied locations under the rear seat. There is not enough room to behind the rear seat for this enclosure to fit. [ Jeremy  Jan 04, 2019 ]
No try that my self no space [ GREG  Jan 04, 2019 ]
No, I literally takes up the entire area under the rear seat in a supercrew. [ Nathan  Jan 04, 2019 ]
No; it is very large and designed around the contours under the seat. I love the sound, but I hate that I lost my under seat storage. [ New User  Jan 04, 2019 ]
I'm sorry I wish I could help. But I still haven't put mine in yet still in box. [ ANDREW  Jan 04, 2019 ]
No. The subwoofer box is molded specifically to fit under the seat and bolts to the seat brackets. [ MARC  Jan 10, 2019 ]
No, it is specifically built for mounting under the rear seat. [ Corey  Jan 09, 2019 ]
No. It's designed to fit under the seat [ Mitchell  Jan 09, 2019 ]
No it can only go under the seat unfortunately. And you loose all that storage space. [ Kyle  Jan 09, 2019 ]
I have a super cab super duty and it will only fit under the seat. Not sure about crew cab, but would assume the same. Also if it would fit behind the seat you would have to find a way to mount it so it would not rattle! [ Adam  Jan 09, 2019 ]
Highly doubtful. It takes up some valuable real estate. But I believe it was worth it. [ Kyle  Jan 09, 2019 ]
Sub unit is one solid piece. I doubt it would fit. [ Hilary  Jan 09, 2019 ]
No, it's custom shaped to go under the seat. I don't think there is any way to modify it to go behind the seat. [ James  Jan 09, 2019 ]
I don't see how this could go behind the seat of my F150, there's no room behind the back seats. It fits perfectly under. [ Douglas J.  Jan 09, 2019 ]
No. It definitely must go under the seat. BTW: It fits like OEM and sounds great! [ Stephen  Jan 09, 2019 ]
They performed a redesign for the 2016 year, I think, and that included the rear interior. [ Jeremy  Oct 07, 2018 ]
Not a 100% but it may be the harness connector may be different from the one they going to send you take a close look at the one they show on the pic also check speaker side on the door [ GREG  Oct 07, 2018 ]
I had a 2010 F150 before this one and I think maybe the speaker connections might be different. I do not know about the hookups on the radio side. Going from memory here so take it for what it is worth. The system is perfect for me as I wear hearing aids and the music is so much clearer. I think it is worth the trouble to make it work though. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck, George [ GEORGE  Oct 07, 2018 ]
It will work the whole system is plug and play [ William  Apr 03, 2018 ]
I have a 2016 XLT 4 door with the 4" screen and this speaker system works fine. [ Craig  Apr 02, 2018 ]
I have a 2016 XLT with the factory 4" screen and this works perfectly. The connectors for the sub and amp are made to fit the factory stereo so if you plan to replace the head unit you would need to rewire the connection from the sub. [ Bruce  Apr 02, 2018 ]
This is made to work with stock headunit so it should work fine [ Jeff  Apr 02, 2018 ]

I own a 2018 Ford F150 XL STX SuperCrew style and I just installed the JBL Cencert Edition. Perfect fitment with all speakers and exact plug n play. Only thing I had to do was manually hook up power wires to battery n splice the power cables together in cab. I would definitely recommend this system to anyone. Sounds great and the bass is just enough. FYI, this is for factory head unit. Mines 8" [ Jason  Oct 11, 2018 ]
I have a 2017 F150 with the stop-start feature (3.5 EcoBoost). The stop/start has no effect on this system; it stays on throughout the cycle. I have no idea about 2018 fitment. [ New User  Aug 21, 2017 ]
