About the PowerDrive PDI175S
Use household devices in your vehicle
Use household devices in your vehicle
You want to use your household AC-powered devices in your vehicle, but you've run into a basic problem: cars, vans, and trucks use DC power. PowerDrive's power inverters convert your vehicle's DC power to AC power, allowing you to run your household devices from your vehicle's power supply.
175 watts of continuous AC power for multiple devices
PowerDrive's PDI175S power inverter strip draws power from your vehicle's 12-volt port and delivers up to 175 watts of continuous AC power to run your tablet, laptop, iPod®, smartphone, and many other devices. The inverter features three 3-prong AC outlets, one USB power port, and a USB-C power port, so you can charge or run multiple devices simultaneously. It also includes a 12-volt power port for other 12-volt devices. Safety features include overheating and overload protection, plus high/low voltage shutoff.

More details on the PowerDrive PDI175S
Overview: The PowerDrive PDI175S is a power strip-style power inverter that takes the DC power from your 12-volt power port and delivers AC power to three 3-prong outlets, and DC power to dual USB ports and a DC power socket. Its dimensions are 2.577"W x 1.843"H x 9.535"L, and it weighs 13.5 ounces.
Power Strip Design: The Power Inverter is styled like a standard power strip, with a 2' power input cord. There is also a 12-volt DC power socket on the end. A 1.5" ventilation opening on the top helps to keep the inverter cool. Its ideal operating temperature range is 32°F to 104°F. There should be at least 2" of unobstructed air space around the entire surface of the inverter at all times. The AC and USB outlets are all positioned on the top panel, with the DC power socket on the end. A single LED illuminates the "PowerDrive" logo when the outlets are active, and red when there is an overload or error.
Input: The PDI175S plugs into your vehicle's DC power port, and accepts an input of 11 to 15 Volts DC. For convenience, the input has a 24" power cord to reach the power port.
AC Outlets: The Power Inverter features three 3-prong standard North American AC sockets. The outlets are rated at 115V AC, 58-62Hz on the Modified Sine Wave (MSW). The inverter provides up to 175 watts of continuous power and 350 watts surge power. It operates at 85% max efficiency.
Dual USB Outputs: The PowerDrive PDI175S offers two USB ports for charging your electronic devices. The USB-C port's output is rated at 3A (15 watts). The USB Type A port has a 2.4A output for a total of 12 watts.
Power Socket: In addition to the dual USB ports, the inverter has a round 12-volt power socket (or "cigarette lighter" port) for powering other devices.
Battery Operating Time: When the vehicle battery is the sole power source, the inverter could be a significant draw on the battery's power, depending on the charge level of the battery, its capacity, and the amount of power being drawn by the particular AC load. Typically, the battery has an operating time of 4 to 5 hours or more. It is strongly recommended that you start the vehicle every one or two hours to recharge the battery before its capacity drops too low. With no devices plugged in, the inverter has a no load draw of less than 0.45A, so its impact on the battery charge is negligible.
Typical Power Requirements: The PowerDrive inverter can power most low-to-moderate wattage AC electronic devices. Here are some typical appliances that can be powered by the PDI175S, and their wattage ratings:
- Cellular Phone: 3 watts
- Tablet: 15 watts
- Glue Gun: 20 watts
- 7" Portable DVD player: 48 watts
- Laptop Computer: 60-100 watts
- Video Game Console: 60-300 watts
- Lamps (up to 70 watts): 75 watts
Note: You should check the wattage rating of your device before plugging it into the inverter to be sure you're not exceeding the capacity of the inverter.
Safety Features: To protect the battery, the PDI175S will automatically shut off when the input power drops below 10.5V DC (+/-0.3V) or above 15V DC, or if the internal temperature of the device is too high. It has a built-in, user-changeable glass fuse of 20A to protect the inverter in case of an overload.
