Video: easy setup on JBL EZ car amplifiers

Properly set the gain every time

Most of the people appearing in our videos are employees at Crutchfield. We pull in folks from around the company to share their expertise. A lot of our on-camera stars come from our Advisor Group — they help people choose the right gear via phone, email and chat every day, so they're good at explaining the products and technologies.

One of the biggest problems with installing an amplifier is setting the gain properly. JBL has come up with a fool-proof method for getting it right in their EZ line of car amplifiers, ensuring full-power performance and distortion-free play. Using test tones on the included setup CD, you first set your receiver's volume to 75%, then adjust the gain knob until the yellow light or the red light goes off, and the green "Gain OK" light comes on — it's that simple.

Tom, Try increasing your receiver's volume a bit to get a higher signal level to the amp.

Kevin, You can go online and download test tones from any number of sources, and store them on a thumb drive for your receiver to play. Start with a web search for 0 dB test tones.
