Shawn, Senior Product Advisor at Crutchfield, was a beta tester for the Sonos® Controller App for Android™. Shawn tells us how the free app works and how he uses it with his Sonos system.
Shawn: So being a senior product adviser for Crutchfield, my main job is to help people pick out technology that best suits their needs. So when I actually had the opportunity to be a Beta tester for the last month for the Sonos Android app, it was pretty exciting. Being a Beta tester let me figure out and work closely with Sonos to pick out and make sure that everything about the product was as good as possible. They actually delayed the app about a month just to make sure that everything was perfect, and it let me know that they really listen and they want to make sure when the product comes out, it's as good and as finished as possible.
So if you're not familiar with Sonos, here's a quick breakdown. Sonos is a muli-room audio system that lets you put music anywhere in your house and actually control it easily. Sonos has controllers for Mac, for PC, for an iPad, an iPod Touch, an iPhone and they've just come out with the Android app. If you don't have any of those devices, you're actually covered. They actually make their own controller, so the interface of them are pretty much identical so you feel pretty confident in that you can actually jump into any one of these devices and use them.
One thing the Android app has that's a little bit different from the rest, which is a pretty cool difference, is that you can actually search for what you want using your voice. So basically you just say the name of the artist or the name of the song it's gonna find it for you. And in addition to that, the actual volume controls on the Android will control the volume in individual zones. And you'll be able to control your internet radio. You'll be able to control your music in your computer, and you can control all the premium services like Napster, PANDORA, Last.fm, Rhapsody, Sirius so they have a lot of other music sources.
