Video: Polk Audio RCi-series In-wall & In-ceiling Speakers

Most of the people appearing in our videos are employees at Crutchfield. We pull in folks from around the company to share their expertise. A lot of our on-camera stars come from our Advisor Group — they help people choose the right gear via phone, email and chat every day, so they're good at explaining the products and technologies.

Amanda and Chris share their impressions of Polk's RC85i, RC65i, RC80i, and RC60i in-wall and in-ceiling speakers in this short video.

Chris: Hey, I'm Chris.

Amanda: And I'm Amanda. And we're here in the Crutchfield studio today to show you Polk's RCi-series of in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. This is the RC85 we have mounted here. It's an in-wall speaker, as you can see. And right here is the RC65, also an in-wall speaker. Now, the main difference between these two is just the size. The RC85 has larger drivers for just bigger, more room-filling sound.

Chris: Right. I've got the RC60 in-ceiling speaker, and then we've got the RC80 in-ceiling speaker mounted behind. This just steps up to bigger drivers, like these. The difference between the in-ceiling speakers and in-wall speakers is just that these are circular and these are rectangular, to better match circular fixtures on your ceiling and rectangular fixtures on your wall.

Amanda: Exactly. Now, these are some of our most popular in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Our customers rave about these. First of all, they love the way they sound. Secondly, they really like the value for the money.

Chris: Right. One of the reasons these Polk speakers sound so good is that you can position the tweeter toward your listening spot. It just gives you more directional sound.

Amanda: You just get it exactly where you want it. And that's part of why these speakers can be used in different kinds of systems. They're very popular as surround sound speakers in a whole Polk surround sound system. And they're also used a lot by people in multi-room systems.

Chris: They're great for multi-room applications, because you can put them in virtually any room in your house. These are actually moisture-resistant, so they're safe for kitchens, bathrooms, saunas — even under the eaves of your house outside.

Amanda: That's very cool.

Chris: Yeah, it's great. And they don't take up any space. They mount flush with your wall or ceiling. You can even paint the grilles to match your wall.

Amanda: Nice.

Chris: Let's go behind the wall.

Amanda: Yeah, show you the inside. So this is really just the guts of the speaker. This is what would normally be hidden by the cabinet of a bookshelf speaker or a floor-standing speaker. And here, it's just hidden inside your wall. Basically, what these speakers do is use your entire wall or your entire ceiling just as one big speaker cabinet.

Chris: So it's really, really great sound.

Amanda: Sounds great.

Chris: When you buy speakers — in-wall or in-ceiling speakers — from Crutchfield, we also send you a free guide that just kind of walks you through some of the steps you'll take in installing your speakers. What to look for, what to watch out for, some pointers, and also some safety tips.

Amanda: Very important. Yep, so there you have it. That's Polk's RCi in-wall and in-ceiling speakers.
