Video: Nikon S800c Digital Camera

Android™ built in for easy sharing

I've been a camera nut all my life, so it makes sense I'd end up being a video producer. Of course, it has been a roundabout journey for me, as I started at Crutchfield in 2007 writing about car audio gear. Over the years I've learned about all the electronic items we sell, and it is my job to make sure we are making videos that you will find useful, whether you're shopping for something specific or trying to install some new gear yourself. My job is a lot of fun because I get to play around with all the cool stuff you see on our website while I'm making videos about it. Getting hands-on with the gear helps me see what I should show you about a product, though the flip side is my personal wish list is a mile long...

The Nikon Coolpix S800c is a compact point-and-shoot camera with smartphone-like Wi-Fi functionality. You can snap a photo and instantly upload it to Facebook or email it to friends, as long as you're connected to a Wi-Fi network. Leave that USB cable in the drawer and wirelessly transfer pictures to your computer for instant backup.

The S800c is much more than a camera. Its smart functions are powered by Android, so you can download apps from Google Play™. This opens up a whole new world of imaging possibilities, with hundreds of photo apps at your fingertips.

The Nikon S800c is a unique camera in that it has an Android operating system built into it. While it has a lot in common with your Android smartphone, it really takes it to the next level when it comes to the camera and picture quality. It's got a much bigger image sensor inside than your phone will. It's got a 10X optical zoom. You'll just get better pictures with this than you will with your smartphone.

You can easily share right from the back of the touchscreen here. You'll need a Wi-Fi connection, so when you get back home you can get on here and you can upload it to your different gallery accounts. You can even zap it over to your smartphone.

The S800c has a lot of built-in memory, I think 1.7 GB worth, so much so that I didn't even bother putting a memory card in it, because it can hold several hundred pictures at the highest resolution, which is pretty nice, you know. And if you're going to share things over the internet anyway, what's the point of a memory card? Of course if you were going to fill it up with apps, then the memory card slot is there and it works just like a regular camera.

So it's a lot of good things about a nice Nikon point-and-shoot camera, and also a lot of the good stuff from your Android phone all built in here. If you have any questions about the S800c or any other camera just give us a call.
