Video: Olympus OM-D E-M5 Digital Camera

I've been a camera nut all my life, so it makes sense I'd end up being a video producer. Of course, it has been a roundabout journey for me, as I started at Crutchfield in 2007 writing about car audio gear. Over the years I've learned about all the electronic items we sell, and it is my job to make sure we are making videos that you will find useful, whether you're shopping for something specific or trying to install some new gear yourself. My job is a lot of fun because I get to play around with all the cool stuff you see on our website while I'm making videos about it. Getting hands-on with the gear helps me see what I should show you about a product, though the flip side is my personal wish list is a mile long...

Sometimes the intersection of innovation, convenience, and cool is so compelling that it demands to be noticed. Such is the case with the eye-turning Olympus OM-D E-M5 interchangeable-lens hybrid camera. Springing from the distinguished tradition (and informed by the design) of Olympus's original OM line of SLRs, the E-M5 honors that spirit while moving the innovation threshold forward.

I've got the Olympus OM-D digital camera here. This is an interchangeable-lens design. It's a Micro Four Thirds camera, so the size is very small. This is pretty easy to carry around with you. I like to say it's as much or as little a camera as you want it to be, this particular model, because right out the box you can flip it over to intelligent auto or one of the scene modes and get great pictures right away.

The image quality on the OM-D is fantastic. This camera kind of comes to you as a blank slate, and you set it up how you want it. So I'd recommend the first thing you do with it is sit down and get it set up the way you want it. You can assign different functions to the various dials and buttons and so forth on the back. So it's a very configurable camera and you can get it working just like you want it to.

It's got a very nice electronic viewfinder built in. The screen tilts — tilts back like that, or it tilts ahead like that for an overhead shot. I found myself walking around with it with the screen like this. My family is a little tired of me sticking a camera in their face all the time, so when I'm shooting like this I don't bother them so much, and I get great shots of them.

The Olympus OM-D, an easy to carry package that won't let you down. So if you have any questions about this camera or others, just give Crutchfield a call.
