Samsung's 55" KN55S9C OLED TV is a beautiful blend of technology and art. The ultra-thin, gently curved panel and elegantly minimalist frame are the first clues to this TV's revolutionary nature. OLED is a truly new screen technology — it's not based on LCD or plasma, and has major advantages over both.
OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode, and it's the organic part that makes this technology a real game-changer. OLED screens actually use an organic material that glows when it's activated by an electric current. The screen's pixel layer is made of this self-illuminating carbon-based material — each pixel produces its own light and color, and can be independently switched on and off, so there's no need for a backlight.
