Video: Upgrading Computer Sound with Headphones
Find out how to get better sound from the music on your computer using headphones in this short video.
Tara: These days people spend a lot of time listening to music from their computer through headphones. I know I do at work. But if you're using the earbuds that come with an iPod, for example, you're going to miss out on some of the details in your music, even when you turn the volume all the way up. So in this video we're gonna show you a couple ways to get better sound from your computer while listening through headphones.
The first step to better sound from your computer is to get a good pair of headphones. That'll give you better dynamic range, meaning higher highs, lower lows from your music and better overall detail. Good headphones will also block some of the environmental sounds that could be in your office. If you work in a really busy area, you may want to invest in noise canceling headphones which will do an even better job blocking the sounds around you.
The next step is to get a headphone amplifier to go with your headphones. Without it, your headphones will pull a little bit of power from your computer. When you add a headphone amp in though, your headphones get a whole lot more power so you'll hear a lot more detail. It'll really open up your music. And a lot of our co-workers have tried headphone amplifiers recently at their desks and they said that they make a huge difference. It's really easy to add a headphone amp to your system. You'll run one cable to the amplifier and another cable will connect to your headphones. And some amps will pull power from your computer. Others will plug into the wall.
