Video: Kenwood KVT-514 DVD Receiver
I've written about car audio for Crutchfield since 2003, after four years as Crutchfield Sales Advisor, and 10 years as a music teacher. I'm an avid music listener, with a real love of classical and film music. I love having a great system in my car, and I'll still match the system in my 98 Ford Ranger (may it rest in piece) up against anything else I've heard for great SQ. I attended West Virginia University, where I received a Master's Degree in Music Performance and a Bachelor's Degree in History. Let's Go Mountaineers!

Ken takes a hands-on look at the intuitive touchscreen controls of the Kenwood KVT-514 DVD receiver. The graphic interface makes it easy to access all of the great features that Kenwood built into this receiver.
Hi. I'm Ken and I'm here at the Crutchfield photo studios with Kenwood's KVT-514 DVD receiver. Now this is a great way to add touchscreen controls to your vehicle if you don't have the space for a larger sized stereo. Take a look. The display folds out with Kenwood's Z-Action™ mechanism and there's eight different angle settings and four distance settings so you can always set it for the best viewing.
You'll enjoy how your music sounds. This has a 24-bit digital-to-analog converter, plus you can adjust the output with the System Q Ex Sound Controls. That gives you seven preset tone curves, a 3-band parametric EQ, plus high- and low-pass crossovers so you can filter the music to match your speakers.
Now let's take a look at how easy it is to make some of those adjustments with the touchscreen. When you want to make audio adjustments, just hit the Audio button. Now we can go to Audio Control which lets us set the balance right where we want it, put the sweet spot here, here, or even there. It's much easier than playing around with the balance and fader controls of most receivers.
When you want to work with the EQ, press Equalizer, and you can quickly go right through your presets, or you can play with the bass, middle, and treble of the 3-band EQ. And finally in Audio, we've got zone controls too. Touch that and we can go from a single zone to dual zone, so you can play something different in the back, like hook up an optional video monitor and listen to the tuner or another source up front.
The Setup menu lets you get in and adjust all the nitty-gritty things you'll want to adjust on your receiver and when we go to Source, you'll have the controls for what you're listening to now. In this case, we've got the tuner going. And finally, if you want to go to different options, just hit select, and there are all our potential options for the receiver. Now to make the KVT-514 truly your own, you can even personalize the background by loading in your own photos via the USB input.
