Heads up!Welcome to this article from the Crutchfield archives. Have fun reading it, but be aware that the information may be outdated and links may be broken.
Chris: Hi. I'm Chris
Tara: And I'm Tara and we're here in the Crutchfield video studio to talk to you about the Energy Take Classic and RC-Micro home theater speaker systems. Now each of these systems comes with four satellite speakers, one center channel, and a subwoofer for really full, complete surround sound.
Chris: When we first set these systems up here at Crutchfield, what we noticed right off the bat is how good they look. Obviously very compact so they could fit even within smaller rooms, and I like the shiny black finish. I think it's elegant looking. It kind of reminds me of a grand piano.
Tara: And it matches well with a lot of newer TVs, so if you have an LCD or a plasma then these speakers will fit right in.
Chris: They look really nice next to the flat-panel screens.
Tara: Yeah, definitely.
Chris: But the most important thing we noticed was how great they sound. I was blown away by how big the sound was in our training room, for how small the speakers are. I was really impressed because it's not something I would normally expect from such compact speakers. Another thing I liked was that the sound was really widely dispersed throughout the room. I got up and walked around and from place to place the sound was really consistent.
Tara: Yeah and that's really important especially if you have a family or a group of friends watching a movie. You want the movie to sound awesome all around the room, not just in one spot.
Chris: Everybody fighting over that sweet spot. That would not be good for movie night.
Tara: Probably not.
Tara: And we've heard in a lot of industry reviews that people really like these speakers too. They're saying that they have a really big sound and that they're a great performance for the money, which is really important.
Chris: So let's talk about what makes this sound so good in these speaker systems. Well one thing Energy does is they're very careful about their driver alignment. You'll see that the woofers are placed very closely to the tweeters on the same face plate. And what that does is it just helps blend the sound more evenly throughout your room. You get the same smooth sound across all frequencies.
Tara: Yeah and they've taken that a step further with their subwoofer. The frequencies of the subwoofer and the satellite speakers overlap so you'll hear the full range of sound from your movies and music. You're really going to hear all the details that way.
Chris: And that overlap is really important and you won't find that in every system, so this is a big plus for these systems.
Tara: Definitely. They've also designed the subwoofer to minimize distortion so you'll get room-filling clear and precise bass, instead of booming or a thumping noise.
Chris: Well let's talk about differences between the two systems. Obviously the RC-Micro satellites are about half the size as the Take Classic ones. So that's a step up that a lot of people can enjoy if they just want to kind of have an unobtrusive system, really sleek, ultra compact. What I was really surprised by, happily surprised, is that the sound was great, even better than I expected. And this is a system that I would get for my kind of smaller living room and would work really well.
Tara: Yeah, and the Micro system comes with a smaller sub. It has more power so you're going to get the really great room-filling bass but it's just in a small box.
Chris: Exactly. So we think that these Energy home theater systems are great for people who do want that good surround sound, the full experience, but they're not willing to fill their room up with big bulky speakers.
Tara: Yeah. You can wall-mount the satellite speakers so they'll be even more out of the way in your house.
Chris: And save more space. To get full details on the Take Classic and the RC-Micro Energy home theater systems go to crutchfield.com/EnergySpeakers.
