Great value for the money and small footprint

Ben from Westerville, OH on 2/15/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a very solid speaker system. I went from a pair of Paradigm mini monitors and a Paradigm 12" 100 watt powered sub. With that setup and 6.5" drivers on the mini monitors, the sub only had to handle very low frequencies and more easily disappeared in the room. With the Bose, the satellites are basically tweeters, so the sub has to handle a lot of frequencies, including midrange. For that reason, where you are sitting in the room in relationship to the sub matters a lot. If you sit too close, the illusion of all the sound coming from the satellites is lost. If you're sitting away from the sub and between the satellites, as Bose recommends, it's truly amazing what these speakers can do. I have a 120 x 2 Harmon Kardon receiver, and the Bose can handle the power without issue. The room required a smaller footprint for the speakers, and I definitely found the right match. At this price point, they're a great value for the money.

Pros: - Big sound for small to med room - Great value for the money

Cons: - Midrange frequencies handled by sub reveals location in the room

Bose does it again!

I'VE HAD COMPACT 3 AND 5 SPEAKER SYSTEMS FOR 27 YEARS, AND THE BOSE ACOUSTIMASS 5 SERIES V SPEAKER SYSTEM MUST BE THE BEST VALUE ON THE MARKET. A TEST FOR ME IS WHAT I CALL THE SUITE SIDE OF ABBEY ROAD FROM THE REMASTERED CD. NOT ONLY CAN THE SPEAKERS MANAGE ROCK AND ROLL VOLUME WITHOUT DISTORTION, BUT THE EXPERIENCE WAS LIKE HEARING THE BEATLES FOR THE FIRST TIME.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I read several reviews and did my homework and was anxious to get these speakers. My SA-5 runs a pair of 251's on the patio and the Acoustimass system in the sunroom with ease. Others complained about the bass being low or non existent but that's not the case for me... I am pleasantly surprised, the sub could be mistaken as powered in my setup!!! Of course the mids and highs sound amazing and fill the room full of sounds not always heard on cheaper systems. Once again Bose has knocked one out of the park! If you are going to wall mount your speakers, I would recommend the WB-50's Very clean and the quick release feature is awesome!

Pros: Big sound from a small package! Very impressive system for the money!

Cons: None!

These speakers are what I was looking for. Low profile, great sound and easy to configure. Bass is a little lacking but is a minor issue based on my prospective usage.

Pros: Low Profile Easy to configure

Cons: Lacking deep bass

Great system!

Stanley W, from Brightwood, VA on 1/16/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am using these in a man cave situation so the room is only 15' X 20', I am not sure what environment others are using their system in, but these are perfect for the space I have them in. Both highs and lows are sharp and clear, and overall a crisp clean sound. Now, I am the first to admit, I am not a audiophile, but for a layman this is as Goldielocks would say is just right!

Pros: sound quality, ability to get mounting equipment for the bookshelf speakers,

Cons: cost is a tad bit high

Good, clean sound. Better than I expected.

Doug from Florida on 1/12/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these to go with a new stereo receiver for listening to music. Only music and nothing else. Not movies or TV, etc. To me, they are great... especially in the small footprint they have. I wanted small bookshelf speakers and I considered many...was even concerned about some of the "negative" comments I read elsewhere about Bose products (in general) being over priced and over "hyped". But in the end, to my ear, I really like the way these sound, so how they rate on paper doesn't really matter. Very clean mids and highs. The placement of the separate bass module definitely makes a significant difference in how they sound and it's taken me about a month to finally find out what works best in the room for me. I have mine in a corner facing into the wall about 2-3 inches away. The room is about 15' x 25'. I got the white speakers to go in a white bookcase, so their design is an added bonus to how good they sound. I listen mainly to Jazz so I can't say how they would sound with other styles of music where the bass really has to be cranked up. That's the only reason for 4 stars and not 5. For a heavier bass sound, perhaps adding a separate powered subwoofer would fill in anything missing. One other minor thing... the UPS guy would not just leave these at my door like he leaves other packages. UPS required a signature for this, maybe because they're shipped in the vendor's original white box which says "Bose" all over it, not a plain brown carton.

Pros: Clean sound, small footprint, white color.

Cons: Doesn't have the deep "window rattling" bass that some people might want.

Bose for the bedroom!

Sot from Pompano Beach, FL on 7/31/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound in a small form factor unit. The subwoofer is tall and narrow and can be placed in many different ways. The only warning I give to customers is: make sure that the receiver/amplifier you use to drive these speakers has tone controls or some kind of EQ to make them sound great.

Pros: Small form factor Loud yet clear sound

Cons: No tone controls on the speakers themselves

Deep, articulate, and encompassing

DJK from Washington, DC on 7/24/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Reproduce sound is deep, articulate, and encompassing. Musical sound is deeply felt in the lows while mid range pronounces singing voice more clearly and encompassing. Highly recommended.

Pros: Multi-approach design, either use for musical enjoyment or stereo TV clear and encompassing sound.

Cons: A bit pricey.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a speaker system to replace older larger speakers and also wanted it in white. I got exactly what I wanted and this set sounds incredible. The small speakers are not noticeable and we hid the base. Perfection. We are very pleased with this choice! And I highly recommend.

Pros: Sound, Size, Color Choice

A gift for mom's 80th!

Jan L from Florida on 11/3/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My mom has been longing for better sound for her beloved classical music. The family got together and surprised her wih a system from Crutchfield: the Bose speakers, a receiver/amplifier, and a 5-CD changer. We placed the speakers so that the whole home is filled with sound. The Bose speakers produce incredibly beautiful tones inherent in classical music. I've never seen an 80-year old lady with that kind of vertical jump! Thanks to the advisors at Crutchfield for your help!

Pros: Affordable, true sound replication

Cons: Would liked to have received longer speaker wires with the Boss package

Confined Space

Prospect John from Kentucky on 5/4/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers for an open living/kitchen environment. The Bose bass unit is somewhat hidden in a built-in cabinet with glass doors. The speakers are on top of the cabinet with doors cushioned to prevent rattling when the bass is fired up. I like good sounding equipment, but I'm not an audiophile and didn't need anything exotic for my 10+ year Yamaha receiver. This system sounds really good and I'm very happy with my purchase. Easy set up using the Yamaha speaker outputs and wiring provided.

Pros: Easy set up. Really good sound. Compatible with my old receiver. Speaker size.

Cons: Price.

Features

2.1Ch System: The Bose Acoustimass 5 (V) system features two direct/reflecting dual-cube speaker arrays and a passive Acoustimass module. This combination produces a powerful, stereo experience. Speakers cables are also included.

2 Direct/Reflecting Dual-Cube Speakers: Direct/Reflecting speaker technology helps the two compact dual-cube speaker arrays to deliver more open, spacious sound throughout the listening area. You hear enhanced sound and exceptionally lifelike stereo with a larger soundstage. Each of the two dual-cube speaker arrays features dual 2.5" wide-range "Twiddler" drivers.

Acoustimass Module: The Acoustimass module uses a proprietary enclosure and patented technologies to produce deep, rich bass with clarity and balance that compliment the two dual-cube speakers perfectly. The Acoustimass module has a front-firing bass port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response.

Wiring: The included speaker cables are run from the left and right speaker output of your receiver to the Acoustimass module which has two spring clip speaker inputs. Wires are then run from the two spring clip speaker outputs on the Acoustimass module to the left and right dual-cube speaker's proprietary inputs. Since the crossover networks needed to protect the cubes are in the Acoustimass module and not in the individual dualcubes, the units must be connected this way.

Mounting Options & Placement: The Bose AM5 (V) system offers flexible placement for the speakers and Acoustimass module.

  • Speaker Mounting: These speakers can be simply table-top mounted, or you can mount the speakers on wall-brackets, floor-stands, or table-stands (all sold separately).
  • Acoustimass Module Placement: For best sound quality, the Acoustimass module should be placed on along the same wall and equal distance to the two dual-cube speakers.

Recommended Power: The Bose AM5 (V) speaker system is compatible with AV receivers and amplifiers rated from 10 to 100 watts per channel, rated from 4 to 8 ohms.

Auto System Protection: When played at high volume, the Bose Acoustimass 5 (V)'s automatic protection circuit activates to prevent damage to the system from electrical stress or overload. When this happens, you may notice a slight decrease in volume. This indicates that the power input may have exceeded safe levels.

The cube speakers have to be wired to the Acoustimass module. I used the WB-50 wall brackets and hid the wires behind the wall. The WB-50's are pretty slick, you can push in the clip and release the speakers. The sound quality is amazing from this set! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! My whole house is SoundTouch. [ Jason  Feb 19, 2018 ]
No you can't - you won't be able to make direct connection from your wireless link adapter to the Acoustimass speaker system; you can however, make indirect connection via your home receiver. I suppose if you know what you're doing it's possible to make direct connection uisng adapter of some sort but I'd rather follow Bose' strict guidelines and stick with it as these machines are engineer with high degree of sophistication and precision. Happy connectivity. [ Dial  Feb 18, 2018 ]
I cannot answer your question, sorry , mine are all wired. [ VIvian F.  Feb 18, 2018 ]

connected directly to receiver Onkio 900 [ EDWIN  Nov 03, 2016 ]
No. You'll need an amp and ideally, an AV amp. [ JOEL M.  Nov 02, 2016 ]
No. It must be connected to a regular speaker output. The system is not self powered... [ Alvaro  Nov 01, 2016 ]
Based on the format of this particular Bose system, it requires a 90 watt or stronger amp to function decently. Typical TVs are not usually designed to push that kind of format or power. It's best to consider buying an amp to connect to your television, since most televisions today are usually designed to function with an HDMI, ethernet, RCA cable, or even an optical cord as there are some speaker systems that can connect to portable devices such as an Apple TV, etc that uses the smart tv technologies. But in short; buy an amp. I hope this helps. Fred [ Fred  Nov 01, 2016 ]
The quick answer is no. However, you can connect your TV's output to a stereo receiver's channel input (Yamaha receiver) and hear the TV's audio through that sound system. [ Dial  Nov 01, 2016 ]
The Bose Acoustimass 5 series V speaker system is compatible with AV receivers and amplifiers rated from 10 to 100 watts per channel, rated from 4 to 8 ohms; the information listed for the HK ARV 30 receiver you have indicates that it produces 60 watts per channel into 8 ohms, so that would fit nicely within the specs that Bose recommends for these speakers. I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=159 [ Larry  May 17, 2016 ]  Staff
It has no power cord works with negative and positive lead to receiver. [ EDWIN  May 14, 2016 ]
No separate power cord required. Two sets of speaker cables are supplied - one set goes from the bass module to the satellite speakers and the other set goes from the bass module to the amplifier/receiver. This is how power is supplied to the system. The length of the supplied cables were more than sufficient for my system. [ John  May 14, 2016 ]
NO [ JOHN  May 14, 2016 ]
The subwoofer is powered. The chord is about 5 ft long or so. [ Carol  May 13, 2016 ]
Yes, it is and the AC cord is about 5-feet long with a 90-degree connector at the plug end. [ JOEL M.  May 13, 2016 ]
Thanks for your question. This includes 2 Direct/Reflecting dual-cube speakers and the Acoustimass module. On the product page under the details tab, you will find this information under "What's in the box". Hope that helps. [ Kenny  May 10, 2016 ]  Staff
Bose is generally very vague when it comes to the specifications of the home audio products they manufacture--I also noticed where they list 10-200 watts on page 7 of the manual, then change to 10-100 watts on page 9. I tried contacting Bose's support directly for more info, but they didn't have anyone available on the weekend. I have also sent a note to our product researcher's to see if they can shed some light on this and correct the info on our website; but in the meantime I would recommend adhering to the more conservative 10-100 watts listing when connecting an amplifier/receiver to the Bose Acoustimass 5 Series V speaker system.
