Awesome 2.1 system!

Matt A. from Los Angeles, CA on 9/22/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an awesome 2.1 system. Absolutely exceeded my expectations in every way imaginable. The base module provides a deep, yet subtle bass that resonates through the room creating rich and tender lows. The two dual speaker module project crystal clear mids and highs that fill the room. To test it out, I popped in the opening of Star Wars on Blu-ray. I had intended just to listen to the sound effects and dialogue and get a sense of how it sounded and felt. From the moment I felt a slight rumble as the imperial destroyer flew over head, to the sound of the laser blasts, to R2D2's beeps, I ended up watching just to listen to the incredible sounds. It's a sound system that compliments the movie and enhances your experience. What more could you ask for? Set up was a breeze too. I had it up and running in about 10 minutes. The universal remote works like a dream too. I had one issue getting it set up which is that I have a DirecTV Genie. If you have that too, you'll need to change the settings on the satellite box to accept IR instead of RF. Once you do that, you're good to go. Fortunately Crutchfield got in touch with Bose for me and provided that useful solution. Incredible sound, beautiful system, and top notch customer support. What are you waiting for?

Pros: Rich bass, crystal clear highs and mids, easy set up, great remote, and looks gorgeous!

Cons: None

I,m Very Happy

Walt from Portland, Oreegon on 8/18/2014

I recently bought 3 different sound bars and one by one returned them all. I was about to give up. But, then, already owning a Wave radio I, decided to give the Bose gs 11 a try. I'm really glad I did. It's a keeper. The highs are excellent and the lows can be adjusted to your liking. I was worried that the gs 11 would be like ourWave Radio and be shy on bass. I shouldn't have worried. By turning the Bass way up, it can make Barbara Streisand sound like Morgan Freeman. I love it's universal remote...easy to program and, I only need it and the dvd remote to control everything And, the only reason I need the dvd controller is to open and close it's disk drawer. Needless to say I have already recommended ti to a friend.

Pros: Excellent sound. easy to set up, very small but powerful speakers, great universal remote

Cons: The subwoofer requires a cord and must be placed at least 3 feet from the tv.

We Really Like This System!

MAH from Arlington, TX on 7/20/2014

We do not understand the negative reviews! We may be too old to comprehend,, but we knew what the capabilities of this 2.1 system were before we bought it. We did our research, we counted our pennies, we waited for a good price (if ever there one on Bose products), and we had the salesman load it into our car,and we are a tad old. At home, hook-up was a breeze! Ok, it was a no-brainer...we read the instructions and followed the pictures. The Bose remote setup was also super easy. Mall done, maybe an hour. Then the magic of Bose resounded in our retirement apartment, as we played a couple of scenes from Carmen on Blu-Ray. We then dropped a regular DVD in our Sony Blu-Ray player and we enjoyed the 'new' sound we'd not heard before through our Crutchfield purchased 42" LCD Regza. We do have to monitor our volume (Carmen does sound better cranked-up on the Bose). That's okay, our neighbors are welcome to come and be entertained with us! My point is, we definitely think and feel this system does what it was designed to do, per its specifications flawlessly. It's all Bose! Oh, there are other 2.1 systems out there, some with extra features like Bluetooth, wireless speakers, and DTS to name a few. We hope those who want those extras will find them. Meanwhile, we are going to listen to Anna Caterina sing the Habernera! Ciao.

Pros: -crisp sound - all Bose! - small footprint - easy setup and use (no more TV sound!) - it's a Bose!

Cons: - typical Bose - bring money - the Gemstones need speaker stands for mor clarity of sound, stands not included.

CineMate GS Series II

jc from San Mateo, California on 7/5/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Major sound difference from my Sony Bravia TV speaker to this Bose GS series II. This system do what it said would do, did notice some surround sound when jet flying across the screen but if you want 100% surround this is not the one. I notice you would have to mute the sound from the TV set. If not, it would have an echo effect, not a big deal pretty sure other system is the same way. The sound level for the Bose does not display on the screen, would like to know how high I set my volume. Hook up was easy. System looks great, would like Bose to include the speaker stand instead of buying it separately.

Bose Cinemate

JuanB from 33415 on 6/21/2014

I do have one since 2007. Easy to install, user friendly and the sound quality is incredible. I did attached to a Mitsubishi 60' - 1080p - DLP Real-3D - Samsung 2D-3D bluray and, .... I love it. Before I did have other brands like Sony Audio but I read a few goods reviews and tried this one for 15 days [a local big box store's return terms] . Bose Cinemate is one of the best audio systems for small home theaters or just for your living room. It brings daily entertainment to a new level. If You want to LOL my dog is always confused with the incredible sound-round,.. he never gets 'who is on the door', or if the sound comes from the kitchen. There are another weird illusions,... like the drop of water during itv player logo for all TV presentations that seems that the water is actually dripping in the room. I don't want to compare because all systems have something different to offer,.. but this one is Great and Extraordinary Sound with less effort.

Pros: Easy to install. Great sound. Durability.

Cons: I will like to have it forever, but I know that probably Bose Cinemate will last longer than me. I hope my kids will enjoy it.

Bose flops again

Manohlive from Milwaukee, WI on 4/19/2014

This system looks nice and is very easy to set up, however; one cannot get DTS-only PCM. At this price that is completely unacceptable. I'd take mine back but the store went out of business with my now knowing.

Pros: Small, Easy to set up, Attractive in appearance

Cons: This is huge: Bose itself admits that one can only get PCM through the system-no DTS. I am stuck with it. I would have returned it immediately. Had I known that it was only PCM; I would never have considered. I will not look at another Bose product. It's pretty but so is a shirt I bought last week. I knew the shirt was linen. I did not know this system was junk. I'd give it NO stars. The price for what you get is ridiculous.

Crutchfield response on 4/23/2014 Thanks for your review. We corrected our presentation.

BOSE delivers as always

it's worth reviewing from Guam on 4/6/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've always been a fan of BOSE. The crisp clean sound that any BOSE product delivers is hard to beat. Although a little pricy, I debated long and hard between the Klipsch SB-1 and the BOSE Cinemate GS II. I ended up going with the BOSE because even my wife (after proving to her that BOSE was the best with my soundlink mini) was convinced there was nothing better than BOSE. I was actually surprised at how fast it shipped considering I'm always over in the South Pacific ocean in the middle of nowhere. The setup was easy and straight forward. I was able to configure the remote to all my devices (except my XBOX ONE). I have about 15 ft. x 25 ft. of living room space, and this is probably the best setup for this much space. There is sort of a surround effect the sound bouncing off the walls. I have them sitting on the TV stand for now, but I'm thinking of getting the stands. Overall I'm very happy with my new system. Great upgrade to factory speakers and suitable for a small to midsize living room (if you live in an apartment).

Pros: simple setup. High quality build and excellent sound as always from BOSE.

Cons: It would be nice if BOSE came up with a wireless speaker system. (Wireless sub and speakers)

Bose Cinemate GS II

DeanA from Preston, MN on 2/14/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a sound system that sounded good, was affordable, was easy to operate, & looked good. First, I looked at 5.1 surround sound systems. The ones I liked were more than I wanted to spend. The receivers were confusing to operate, & with all the components had more clutter than I wanted. Next, I looked at powered systems which included sound bars with subwoofers. I didn't like the appearance of the sound bar. I finally looked at the Bose Cinemate GS II. After comparing them to other systems, they seemed to be what I was looking for. While the Bose don't have a WOW factor, they do what they say they'll do. Turn them on and they work. The sound is far better than the TV speakers. They don't have 5.1 surround sound, but they do have effects that mimic surround sound. To get sound that is noticeably better, I'd have to spend at least twice as much. Then, I'd be looking at sound bars or more speakers and maybe a receiver, not to mention, more clutter. These speakers are also barely noticeable next to my big flat screen. They look like they should be there. I've had them for about a month and couldn't be happier. Movies and sports sound great. The Bose delivers great sound for the price, are incredibly easy to operate, and look great.

Pros: Sound, Size, & Simplicity

Cons: No Volume Indicator

Cons: None.

Great sound but quality is not as great

KevinW44 from Tacoma, WA on 12/3/2013

These are great sounding when the subwoofer works. Not very much use over 2 years and the subwoofer started making crackling noise and wouldn't output sound anymore just annoying noise. The small speakers are great and light weight. If the subwoofer didn't go out so quick under light use and had a longer lifespan would give it more stars.

Pros: Small speakers are lightweight, price is reasonable.

Cons: Subwoofer longevity questionable, didn't last very long even with light usage. Sound turned into a crackling mess from subwoofer unit. Probably a bad speaker inside.

Good sound but expensive

JP from Raleigh, NC on 11/29/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

4 stars doesn't mean that it is bad. I think, that the Bose GS Series II is a really good home theater system but with all the cables to connect (makes me think of the 90's) and the high price, it's hard to give them a 5. I do recommend this system for a bedroom, since the mid-range speakers are fantastic for low and high volume. This is a great feature when it's late and you don't want to bother your kids or guests. The bass is more than enough for a bedroom. Best sound comes when you are watching movies on a blue-ray player. If you are planning to install this in a big living room, please get something else (plenty of options). Right now, it is installed in my master bedroom with a 50 inch Panasonic ST60 Plasma.

Pros: Mid-range sound.

Cons: Cables everywhere, high price.

Great Sound!

A Powerful and Proficient 2.1 System

CoreyF from Vero Beach, FL on 10/13/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

While this will not deliver you a true 5.1 surround sound experience, depending on your room and setup this system will very actively participate in your home cinematic experience. Our system is positioned in our family room which is a good size of 15' x 20' and the it fills the room and house with ease. The TruSpace technology is pretty cool giving some surround sound effects when necessary. It does make the most out of the space it's in so it's performance does depend on the space. Downside: no visible volume control nor equalizer control. Beyond that this is quite a proficient system in a convenient package. You will enjoy it if you want big, crisp, clear and mostly accurate surround sound in a cost effective 2.1 system. Btw, if you believe that this system will not deliver the sound you want out of a more expensive system, I recommend purchasing a good receiver and good optical cable. Honestly, you notice very little difference between this system and something that costs 2-3x as much. Think of it this way: an hd picture on different sets and different sources technically produce different picture quality results, but it largely depends on what you can determine with your own eyes. Use a similar, if not the same, scrutiny with your ears.

Pros: Crisp Clean Clear Big Sound Ease of Setup and Control Affordable TruSpace (depending on the space)

Cons: No Equalizer No visable volume control Cannot understand DTS audio signal

We are very happy with the Bose GS II speaker system. The little speakers are small and inconspicuous but deliver great sound. It was a good decision to get the updated system for a few dollars more. After all, if you are going to invest in a great TV, what is a few more dollars to get the maximum pleasure out of your system?

Unmistakably Bose

Charles H from TN on 8/29/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I use this set-up in my bedroom. Nothing fancy about it. Just a TV, Blu-ray player, and this speaker system. It took a few hours and the use of several different movies (genres), and a lot of toying with the sound set-up in the TV menu, but I got the sound that I wanted with the accuracy and clarity I've come to expect from Bose products. For a small room entertainment system and/or for a basic TV/sound system, the Cinemate GS system can't be beat. You may have to spend some time adjusting the sound levels and styles on your TV's menu, but it'll be worth it. The system instructions suggest setting your TV volume at 80%. All that did was distort the sound. I set my TV volume at 30%. Raised the bass level just above 50% and lowered the treble level to about 40%, and set the sound style to surround. Makes bedroom movie watching very enjoyable.

Pros: Small speakers. Only 3 pieces to connect. Great sound. The remote works Bose system and my TV and Blu-ray player.

Cons: In the instructions, everything other than the Bose system components is referred to as "device". Makes actual set-up a little awkward. The woofer is HUGE.

Great sound

Great as Usual

EA from St Louis on 8/13/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I liked the system a lot...the speakers are much smaller now but they still produce the same great sound if not better. The interface is also smaller...

Pros: Set up is very easy. Great Sound as usual.

Cons: The only con is people that have receivers can't use it as the interface for the Cinemate act as the receiver - unless your receiver has a stereo out /optical out.

Happy I bought this

Love my Bose Cinemate GS speakers...everything I expected. Crutchfield did a great job in helping me decide and in getting my speakers to me quickly. Setup was easy...took a total of 10-15 minutes. Watching sports, movies, etc is so much more fun now and the Bose remote works well with all my devices.

Pros: Easy set-up, great sound and perfect for an apartment in NYC

Cons: None

Sounds Great

Kor from Wrenshall, MN on 6/26/2013

Easy set-up, sounds great. The only thing I don't like is the remote, it won't control a lot of features of my Samsung components. Another thing that isn't so nice because you can't tune it at all other then the bass knob on the sub.

Strong, clear sound - lots of separation

David S. from Philadelphia on 4/22/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had my eye on this set for a while. I hesitated because of the high price. The 200.00 price drop was a no-brainer and I am so glad my hesitation ended. The system was very easy to set up (I used the optical cable between my Sony 42 in plasma tv and the Bose GS II). I turned it on and was watching a movie on my comcast DVR -- then I started rerouting cables and cleaning up. I turned my head away from the screen; suddenly someone in the movie fired a gun. I DUCKED. I swear - the sound was so real (well, at least in comparison to those in my tv, which are about the worse speakers in the world) that I though someone had fired a shot in front of my house. My wife likes the clarity of the voices and the separation of voices from background sounds. A very good speaker system for the money.

Pros: Clarity of sound; ease of installation; price

Cons: The instruction manual needs to have diagrams for typical installations (and not just verbal descriptions). Most people won't need to even open the manual, but if they do, they'll find the word "device" used in every other sentence and it creates a bit of confusion. I suggest going back to the old-fashioned diagrams of possible hook-ups.

Great set-up

Baseball Dad from Millersville, Md on 2/25/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I weighed many options for external speakers for my Panasonic plasma TV, and finally took the plunge and bought the BOSE GS system with the 10% off sale. It does what it's designed to do.........a geat job at enhancing everything coming out of the tv. Surround-sound it is not, but it does open up a world of sounds I didn't hear before. The small footprint is a plus and a nice compromise in our busy family room. I would recommend for anyone looking to keep it simple and get better sound out of your TV. You can't go wrong with a Crutchfield puchase and fast shipping.

Pros: small footprint, ease of set-up and use, universal remote

Cons: high price

Bose Cinemate Series 2

B Smith from Philadelphia on 2/22/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great Bose sound, with more than enough bass actually set the bass at mid setting, plenty of volume and the sound does seem wide with sound traveling from left to right speakers which is a great affect, Some sounds do seem to be much farther right and left of the system which is also a great affect. Can't go wrong with these!! Bought the stands to raise the speakers to ear level.

Pros: Great Bose sound, very good affects

Cons: None at all

Aging technology

MarkM from Minneapolis, MN on 12/25/2012

I purchased this system to go with my new HDTV to improve the sound. That it did but I believe this platform for Bose is aging. The subwoofer is too big to be easily concealed with todays more minimalistic furnishings and entertainment centers. Even more frustrating is that the system is not compatible with the SAT/Cable remotes as the Comcast remotes can not be programmed to adjust the volume of the system so the use of two remotes is necessary. One more pet peave is that the base is not adjustable with the remote so you have to manually adjust it on the subwoofer defeating the purpose of the remote. The sound is better and nice for movies but not sold on this for routine TV watching.

Pros: Improved sound over the TV speakers.

Cons: Subwoofer to large, system not compatible with Cable remotes, audio/EQ is not adjustable

There's no substitute!!!!

Anonymous from Laguna Niguel, CA on 11/11/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Incredibly small with an incredible'll never match a 5.1 system, as far as surround sound (no rear speakers)...however it does reflects the sound off the walls to give that illusion. The sub is very powerful...thanks to the intensity control knob on the back (mine is at 35% (factory setting is 50%). If you live in a condo like me, you can decrease the boominess to keep your neighbors won't be sorry!

Pros: Very small, elegant, loud, boomy and simple installation.

Cons: None for my application!

Pricey, but good within limits

Fred from Upstate NY on 1/26/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Far superior to TV speakers. Sound for TV programs and movies is excellent. Didn't realize what I had been missing. Sound for music (satellite radio stations on DirecTV) is mediocre. If you are loooking for better sound on movies and shows, highly recommended. Bose is high quality, but it carries a high price. System is easy to hook up and unobtrusive. Crutchfield gave me the best deal with no tax and free two-day shipping. They also followed up with a hand written card letting me know I can call if I have questions. Nice persnoal touch.

Pros: Easy to hook up. Great sound for movies and TV shows. Takes up minimal space.

Cons: Sound is mediocre for music stations. I can't adjust equalizer settings for external speakers on my TV. If you can, you will probably get better sound.

Excellent Sound, minimal wires & space

Subi from Billings, MT on 10/4/2011

from listening to music to watching action packed movies, this product delivers spectacular sound. Easy to setup, unpacked and setup in just minutes. I purchased the stands that accompany the speakers which does it justice. Hands down, best product for limited space or simply just because you don't want the crowded space of having a true 6/7.1 surround setup.

Excellent Simplicity

DixieJody from Chattanooga, TN on 3/29/2011

Got this system to go along with our new Sony 46'' HDTV. I wanted to replace our older 5-speaker Sony surround system with something that would look neater with less wires while also sounding better. This Bose setup is outstanding and we are very pleased. I have the TV hooked up via the Optical cable and then I have an RCA Y-cable plugged into it also that I play my iPod through. The sound is excellent. There is no speaker distortion when watching movies at higher volumes or jamming my favorite tunes. I highly recommend this system to anyone wanting a simple but high-quality setup.

Jon H from Virginia Beach on 2/7/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 50" Panasonic wall mounted in a 15x17 Bedroom. Just got Netflix, so wanted to experience 'better sound' The system is beautifully designed, easy to set up, and has a nice multifunction remote. The sound is fine. Why the downgrade? The small speakers are no better than the Panasonic's. I found myself getting up to adjust the Bass repeatedly because movies go from too loud to too soft. I like explosions on the screen, not in the room. And the remote won't code for a Cox/Motorola cable box. After a month, I got frustrated, boxed it up, and gave it to my daughter.

Boose quality sound , as one would expect!

WJoe from Marblehead, Ohio on 1/23/2011

A great sounding, very simple to set up and use system. If you are looking for a system to tweak, this is not the one for you. This system is very easy to set up, connect and use. My wife insisted she did not want speaker cords all over the room, and large conspicuous speakers. Plus, running them through the ceiling was next to impossible, anyhow. We purchased it to accompany our Samsung 50" plasma, and the speakers sit on the table stand along with the tv and the sensing module. They are almost invisible on the black stand. The Acoustimas (subwoofer) unit sits on the floor as a typical subwoofer would. The sound is typical Bose: balanced, pre-set to neutral and very clear. No settings, no tweaking. As far as surround they are amazing. Sound seems to come from where it is supposed to, such as a knock on a door way to the side of you, or behind you. I have enjoyed the programmable remote, as it is easier to use than the remote Time Warner provides. We have had this system for four (4) years without a glitch.

we purchased the speakers to go with a Samsung LCD TV and we like them very much. Setup was super simple and they sound much better than the TV speakers. We were able to program the remote for the TV, DirectTV, and Sony Blue Ray player.

Exceptional sound system

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fantastic sound for the living and family room combo [ mine is big ..20x28 and raised ceilings]. Very clean voices and rumbling bass. This "is the system" for the serious TV watchers with a big screen LCD TV in the family room. Movies come to life with the thrill of a theater. Regular TV has never sounded better. Installation was so simple .. just look at the pictures in the "quick set-up guide" .. LOL LOL Those Tee'Nee'Tii'Nee speakers will blow you away and the "ackcoo'stah'mass bass" will shake your shoes off. Our home viewing will never be the same as before it is Top End.

Perfect Product For My Needs

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently purchased a 54" Panasonic G50 Series Plazma for the bedroom. I have a large bedroom with cathedral celings and I have the set on top of a 5' dresser. The sound surprisingly was not bad but not what I expected from a sweet new TV set like that one. I initially purchased a Boston Acoustics Sound Bar fron Crutchfield. The sound was better but did not excite me. Then I had problems with the remote control sensitivity and so I returned it to Crutchfield... no questions asked. I then checked out the Bose GS Cinemate. The cost turned me off especially when the base Cinenate was $200 cheaper. After going to a Bose location and listening to both side by side I could definitely tell the difference. Crutchfield advised I could return the Bose GS if not satisfied with it in my room. Well I can only say I'm very pleased. A simple system to set up and those mini speakers really do put out big clear sound in the large bedroom with cathedral ceilings. The talk shows are crisp and clear, the football games are terrific (crowd noise and field sound) and the music channels which I subscribe to are worth the price itself. Again the only reason I gave it a 4 versus a 5 was the Bose price. The price made me a bit crazy for the bedroom but I love it and recommend it. Doug

Overview: The Bose CineMate GS Series II digital home theater speaker system provides high-quality home theater sound so you get more from your HDTV experience. The Bose CineMate GS Series II digital home theater speaker system makes it easy to enjoy the power of a home theater experience using your TV and video components, like a DVD or Blu-ray player and Satellite receiver. Just two front speakers and a hideaway Acoustimass module bring movies and music to life via proprietary TrueSpace technology. The CineMate GS Series II offers quick and easy connections because there are no rear or center speakers, eliminating much of the wiring of traditional 5-speaker systems. A universal infrared remote control operates the Bose system and most devices attached to your television.

Proprietary TrueSpace Digital Processing Circuitry: The Bose CineMate GS Series II digital home theater speaker system utilizes proprietary TrueSpace digital processing circuitry to deliver a spacious, multichannel sound experience with strong center imaging from just two visible speakers and a hideaway Acoustimass module.

Videostage 5 Decoding and Post-Processing Circuitry: Proprietary Videostage 5 decoding and post-processing circuitry, combined with digital 5.1 decoding, delivers a high quality, multichannel surround sound experience from practically any source: DVDs, videocassettes, stereo CDs, even older mono TV shows and movies.

Digital 5.1 Decoding: The Bose CineMate GS Series II features an optical digital input and provides digital 5.1 decoding for improved realism from 5.1-encoded DVDs, DBS, or HDTV.

Digital Dynamic Range Compression: Digital Dynamic Range speaker compression circuitry enables you to hear soft sounds (particularly dialogue) even at low volumes, and still appreciate the impact of loud special effects.

Interface Module: The Interface Module is a compact enclosure that houses two LED indicators and connectors for audio input (stereo RCA and optical), and receives IR commands for the speaker system. The Interface Module connects directly to your TV while providing status information (on/off) for your speaker system.

Note: You can use either the module's stereo RCA analog audio input or optical digital audio input, but not both.

Gemstone Speaker Array Design: The articulated Gemstone Speaker Array design combines with TrueSpace surround digital processing circuitry to deliver extraordinary sound. Each speaker has two precisely angled drivers inside the ported enclosure. The two speakers are designed to work in concert with Bose's proprietary signal processing to deliver a multi-channel presentation from just two visible speakers. The result is a home theater experience with a broad, spacious soundstage and strong center imaging.

Speaker Mounting: Each speaker array has an M5 female threaded insert on the back, allowing the speaker to be mounted using an optional Bose wall/ceiling bracket, universal floor stand, or universal table stand. Using the supplied rubber feet, the speaker arrays can be placed on any flat surface.

Acoustimass Module: The Acoustimass module works in concert with the small speakers to deliver the full range of sound. The patented Bose design produces low frequencies for all channels with no audible distortion. When the module is tucked behind a curtain or chair, all of the sound seems to come directly from the two arrays.

Bass Control Knob: The bass control knob located on the rear of the Acoustimass module allows you to change the bass level of the Bose system.

Universal Remote: The supplied universal infrared remote delivers seamless system operation and controls most video components attached to your TV. The remote requires two "AA" batteries (included).

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with Bluetooth. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Greg  Sep 01, 2014 ]  Staff
It can be done. I would call the cable company and they will help you sync your remote. I haven't done this as i find it just as convenient to use the Bose remote. [ PAUL  Mar 31, 2014 ]
I use the remote that came with the BOSE system separately from the TV/ Cable remote. I could not seem to get it to work under the one remote but it is quite easy to use separately and works well with the TV and any device you have hooked up to the TV. [ GARY  Mar 31, 2014 ]
I 've always used the Bose remote,so I really didn't know the answer.I just tried my TV remote, and some functions worked, but not the volume. [ WILLIAM  Mar 31, 2014 ]
The Bose CineMate GS Series II digital theater speaker system is highly over rated. For same the money, I'm sure you can get a better system. The sound is only OK, not great and the subwoofer is a large tower - why? And, you do not have the ability to make any changes to the sound. If I had to make the purchase again I would purchase a good receiver and appropriate speakers. [ Myron  Mar 31, 2014 ]
The answer is maybe. See if your remote can be programmed for a Bose component. I have a Directv remote and I was able to program it for the CineMate and it works fine. The mute and volume controls work perfectly. It's a little awkward for the on-off because you have to put the Directv remote into a different mode. [ JOHN J  Mar 31, 2014 ]
I use both remotes, directv and Bose... [ PAULUS C  Mar 31, 2014 ]
Typically the optical audio signal that is sent from the TV to the Bose is at a fixed level, meaning the volume can only be controlled by your Bose remote. [ ROB  Mar 31, 2014 ]
The subwoofer should be placed at least 3 ft. away from your TV to avoid video interference. There is no minimum distance listed for the subwoofer and the gemstone speakers. (The left and right gemstone speakers should be placed at least 3 ft. away from one another.) I don't have an exact measurement on the speaker cable, but I would guess it's about 20 ft. long. I bought the speakers with matching Bose speaker stands and have run the provided speaker cable up and down each of the stands and in behind the TV set with plenty of cable to spare. [ Bart  Dec 26, 2013 ]
The system is a Christmas gift for my dad and hasn't been opened. I can best answer your question after Christmas. I'm sorry I couldn't be helpful at the moment. [ PATRICK  Dec 23, 2013 ]
The cables that are supplied are approx. 8ft long, I was able to place the sub about 4ft away but ran the cables through the wall which cut back on the available length. Under normal circumstance you should have at least 6ft. [ Albert  Dec 23, 2013 ]
Yes it can. Sounds great. The only disappointment was that it shuts off after 30 minutes when not used and must be turned back on. Overall though it is a great sounding system and would recommend it to anyone. [ JERRY  Dec 19, 2013 ]
The speakers (system) sound fine if watching a movie. Regular broadcast TV - not so much. For the same $$ buy a good receiver and speakers for the additional flexibility and better sound. [ Myron  Dec 18, 2013 ]
This Bose unit was designed for people who aren't using an AV home theater receiver with their TV, It hooks up directly to your TV, using your TV's optical digital audio output and and included Toslink digital optical cable. The CineMate GS series II then amplifies the audio and sends it to the bass module and the left and right satellite speakers. You would hook up a cable box/DVR and/or Blu-Ray player directly to your TV. So although you wouldn't normally be using an AV receiver with this unit, if desired you could to send radio station signals or stereo audio from any devices hooked up to your AV receiver to this Bose unit via it's two RCA stereo audio inputs. [ ROB  Dec 18, 2013 ]
its self powered, its ok not really the greatest system, i went to the klipsch sb3 sound bar with sub and I love it [ GREG W  Dec 18, 2013 ]
Don't think so? It hooks to the audio out on your TV. [ DANNY  Dec 18, 2013 ]
