Plenty of power for my computer. Great sound and no distortion.
Pros: Small, powerful, full sound
I have had my Companion 5's for four years now. I bought them in 2012 and yes like others have said are awesome with great sound and easy installation. The only grip I have is the length of cord is just too short used for the satellite speakers. Maybe adding another two feet would make them better able to set up in some tight spaces.
Pros: Great Sound
Cons: Cord length on satellite speakers too short.
Best 5.1 computer speaker system I ever heard.
Pros: Easy to installearn. Looks great. Sounds great.
I received my order quickly at mid week. Hooking them up was so simple. The lines are all color coded to match when plugging in. I thought because I owned a Windows 10 HP computer I might have to go through a lot. It was as easy as plugging in the USB cord which came with the speakers. I play a lot of Blu Ray opera DVDs and the sound is really phenomenal. I can't believe my ears. The newer Blu Rays are equipped with extremely great audio as well as picture. I owned the lesser Bose speakers before. There is a world of difference. I purchased them at Crutchfield because for decades I have received fine service from them. It's always helpful to have someone to explain something your not sure of when connecting your equipment. You can't afford to have a mistake doing it or it could be costly.
Pros: Easy hookup. Fast 2 day delivery. Great sound!!!
A marvelous sound for a computer system. That little Bose system produces a sound that is as sweet as my $2500 system. In fact I have quit feeding the computer music to the larger system. I have purchased another Companion5. You just can't go wrong with the Bose Label
Pros: Midrange is excellent and bass is easy to adjust. Hi-Fi is accurate. Installing was easy.
Cons: The only thing wrong was the price. However I think you will agree the system is worth the price.
The 3 speaker system lives up to the 5.1 system requirement. Bose once again did a good job. Crutchfield did an Outstanding job exchanging a damaged unit for a new one. I had the replacement in 2 days. May purchase a second unit, for second computer.
Pros: The control pod is much more useful than first anticipated. A quick tap mutes/unmutes the volume.
Cons: Bass unit is 15" in length.
Hesitated to spend the money on computer speakers, but am glad that I did. I listen to music on Itunes, in my den, and these speakers just blow me away. Great, even, sound that fills the room. Wasn't sure about the hockey puck at first, but find it to be a plus
Pros: Great sound, not bulky and easy to connect
Cons: Made in China
Exactly what i was looking for. I would recommend these to anyone. If you're on the fence (as much as i was) totally get them. Worth every cent.
I know Bose is a great product to begin with . For a small sound system like this one it is very powerful . It has an excellent sound . I can just recommend it . It is a little bit more pricy then other systems but well worse the money .
Cons: Can not find any .
My father and I have been competing for years, spending multiple $1,000's on home systems, like B&W's and my personal favorites the powered Infinity Overatures. That being said, every time my Dad comes over, and I have my Bose Campanion 5's playing, he says, "Holy Geeze! Wow! Boy does that sound great!". While it obviously does not compare to a $10,000 surround home system's power, clarity, and complete range, it is unbelievably not that far off in its comfortable power range.
Pros: Excellent clarity from mid to high range, and powered sub hits the lows very nicely. I have them strategically placed for sound and stealth, but when found, they are deceivingly small and elegant. Guests usually just shake their heads in disbelief. Love the durable feel of everything especially the separate volume control.
Cons: Just one. Missing something if you haven' t figured it out yet. Lower mid range. But for the price it is outstanding and I get nothing but random compliments, without even asking!
Awesome desktop set-up. Great sound in a small package. The separate volume/mute control is a very nice feature.
Pros: Sound. Aesthetics. Ease of install.
Cons: Pricey (but you get what you pay for...)
What a wonderful way to listen to my favorite and new music on Pandora. I am happy as a clam.
Pros: Easy to install Great sound Bass adjustable
Cons: What cons?
For all normal computer sound requirements, as well as, decoding 5.1 surround Blu-Ray audio, these are great speakers to have. I really like their small footprint and modern look. Note, though, if you are a serious music person - see the Cons listed.
Pros: Very small footprint. Aesthetically pleasing. Easy control.
Cons: If you really intend to use your computer for serious music listening, then you should consider the AudioEngine 2+ and AudioEngine Subwoofer. I have them on a second system and they rock!
It is a great product. it is really easy with the setup. The product was delivered on time
Pros: Great sound system for computer.
I may not be a sound expert, but I have excellent hearing and a very good ear for the details of music. I don't know the correct words or phrases to describe a good sound, but I know it sounds absolutely wonderful. In fact, when I plugged the system in and listened to my first song, I almost cried (no joke). I was pretty overwhelmed with the quality of sound and although this is my first "good" (read not el-cheapo) speaker system for the computer it's hard to imagine these speakers being beaten out by other speakers by much unless they are the over $1000 models. I have a fairly good surround sound system wired in my living room and this rivals it. I have listened to everything from Dvorak to Metallica and all have secret little sounds that I've never heard with other speakers. I have a Mark Levinson sound system in my Lexus and these Bose speakers sound even better than those do.
Pros: Very good sound; great quality and weighted speaker bases so they stand solid; extremely easy to install (just plug and play). I have read critiques that the bass volume knob on the subwoofer is difficult to reach in the back, but I have turned it down to between 1/2 and 1/4 and there's plenty of bass rumble for most any song.
Cons: A little pricier than I had at first planned, but well worth it.
This sound system is by far the best sound for my computer and all the media that I have and download to play on my computer. I have a great sound system for my home theater but find myself using my computer for all of my entertainment and having both systems on was hard on my power usage ! NOW I have great sound on both and can't be any happier !!
Pros: USB hookup was easy and clean speakers look great sound is unbeatable volume mute and dock unit sits on desk easy to reach moveable without moving speakers out of position NICE
Cons: None That I can put my finger on
We purchased these for our Apple Video Editing Workstation. Simple said the sound is incredible.
Pros: Enough said
I have had the Companion 5, ordered from Crutchfield, about two weeks as I write this. I own both the Bose and the Klipsch Pro-Media 2.1 system. I find the Bose to have a very 'bright' sound, almost metallic, with strong bass from the acoustimass module. The hockey-puck control is convenient and very substantial feeling but lacks a bass control which is located only on the back of the acoustimass module. There is definitely some digital processing going on to achieve the wide dispersion sound from the satellites. It does not equate to a 5.1 sound to me but does produce an overall effect akin to a live performance. That said, there is something missing, and I would say it is in the lower midrange. In comparison, the Klipsch Pro-Media has stronger, more filling bass, which is not to say the Bose bass is lacking. The Klipsch sound is fuller but not as live or as bright, somewhat lacking at the top end. It also has both an overall volume control plus a bass volume control on one of the satellites. If you could mash these two systems together without screwing things up, you'd have the makings of a great system. My dear dead departed Cambridge Soundworks 510d 5.1 system is still the best I have ever owned.
Pros: Simulated sound dispersion, life-like experience, strong bass
Cons: Lacking in lower mid-range to my ears
Excelent sound in music and movies.
Pros: Excelent bass
Previous to purchasing these speakers for my MacBook, I was using the introductory Bose speakers. They were good, but I was ready for an upgrade since so much of the music I listen to is from iTunes. These speakers produce the best sound of any computer speakers I have ever experienced. The high notes are crystal clear and the deep bass is wonderful with the subwoofer. Just make sure you have ample room for the subwoofer because all of the connections to the speakers, the computer and the wall outlet run from the subwoofer. I highly recommend this system.
Easy set up and operation. Sound is great
I have been using these Bose speakers on my imac for over 3 years now and I must say that with DVD movies they sound great but when reproducing music they sound horrible. I can hear no difference between lossy mp3 and lossless flac files on the Bose. However when I play back those same music files on high quality stereo speakers, I hear everything that is wrong with compressed music like mp3. Furthermore, The Bose speakers Have a totally inarticulate midrange that sounds the same with whatever type of music I play on them and to make matters worse the subwoofer while good for sound effects sounds the same whether a musician is playing upright acoustic or electric bass. I went over to a friends apartment the other day and heard his cheap speakers. and was amazed at how much more musically natural they sounded than the Bose Speakers at half the price. In fact I've heard many other Bose products and I can tell you that are not only poorly designed and built many similar products from other companies sound far better at one half to one quarter the price of Bose products. If you don't believe me look up audio magazine and "Bose" on the internet.
Pros: Sound good with Home Theater
Cons: Terrible with music. Poorly built. Overpriced.
I've had these speakers, along with many other Bose systems, for a few years now. I have to say this system sounds SOOO much better than any of the other Bose products I have! I don't have a sound card any longer, don't need it, and I used to spend a lot of money on those things. I just reinstalled Windows 7 and iTunes, plugged in my iPhone and couldn't have been more impressed with the sound quality, no drivers, nothing but Windows 7, iTunes and my iPhone. I listen to music in a whole new way with this system, the base is full and rich. I just can't find any system that can play music like this can. I'm sure if I spent 1000's of dollars I could recreate it, but why? I spent $400 on the best sound I can find for the money.
Pros: Vocals are crystal clear, lows and highs are well defined as well. Easy to install, just plug in the USB cable!!!
Cons: I do not believe these are surround sound as they claim! But I would listen to them in every location in my home if I could, the sound is that good! So there really are no cons!
Bose Companion 5 is simple to set up simple to use, the older I get the more I love simple. I am pleased because I use a minimum recording level of 256kbp for my music. The music has heft, even a robust sound stage for a near field computer speaker. What I like most is Bose has been reliable. I don't have time to get it to work. When you unbox the unit, plug it up, it works and it keeps on. To me that is worth the money. I compliment Bose with a level of consistency that belies the return expectations, not every brand does that anymore. I will stay within the Bose line in the future because I know at a certain price point I am going to get what I expect, more importantly what I am looking for. This is comforting, because many other once formidable brands have now forwarded a nice looking package, with their name on it. When you listen to it in a big box store for instance, it sounds no better than a walkie talkie or AM radio on a good day. On the contrary you know what you are going to get with the Bose Companion 5, a rewarding sound, if you didn't think so you would have never brought it home, sadly this is not always so readily true with other brands.
Pros: In my opinion this is a finesse device. Its an arm length or near field unit that gives the experience while working you can rest assured the lightness comes with musical notes dancing in the air, landing on some stanza with the delicate notes of the artists then you are a part of something special.
Cons: The Companion 5 doesnt work with flatscreen.
Great product. The sound is clear and remarkably the processing to enhance the sound stage actually works. Enjoying it a lot.
sound quality is awesome. very easy to hook up and use. could use more volume, have to research if possible
I KNOW IT'S A BIT PRICEY, BUT ARE MOST THINGS IN LIFE OF SUPERIOR QUALITY! THE MUSIC ENVELOPES OUT WITH INCREDIBLE MUSICAL RANGE! I HAD VERY GOOD LOGITEC SPEAKERS, BUT THESE BOSE COMPANION 5 SPEAKERS, ARE A 1,000 TIMES BETTER!! SO COMPLETELY NOTICEABLE, THAT I HAD TO WRITE THIS LONG REVIEW!! IF YOU LISTEN TO MUSIC A LOT ON YOUR COMPUTER, LIKE I DO, YOU SHOULD BUY THESE SPEAKERS! I'M CURIOUS TO FIND OUT! I'LL HAVE TO COME BACK TO SEE IF YOU POST A REVIEW YOURSELF! LET ME GO BACK & LISTEN TO, THINK PINK FLOYD, ON MY NEW BOSE COMPANION 5 COMPUTER SPEAKERS!!
Pros: EVERYTHING!!! A+ SPEAKERS!!
Cons: THE PRICE, BUT SO WHAT WHEN YOU'D BE IN POSSESSION OF THE BEST COMPUTER SPEAKERS IN THE MARKET!!
The Companion 5 lives up to the Bose reputation. Installation is a snap, just plug in the USB connection. Sound is awesome, as is the bass.....
Pros: Simple, fast installation; good looks; great sound.......
HOLLY! Its is just that great! SHOCKED and I am very picky! It sounds amazing and you will feel the base!
Like many, I spend about 8 to 9 hours per day in-front of my computer working. To make that time more tolerable, I listen to music. After going through several sets of much cheaper speakers over the years, I decided that since I spend so much time listening to music on the computer it was time to buy a good set of speakers. These are expensive speakers but worth every dime. They bring a fullness to the music that I did not think possible from a computer. Because of the USB connection, you are not limited by the quality of the sound card in the computer (BTW, computer was provided by the lowest bidder). The volume controller is great. The volume, input and output ports are all very handy being together. Again, these speakers are incredible.
Pros: Quality of sound, volume controller, ability to control base
Cons: Price! However these are worth the price paid.
After using these for four years, I bought a set of B&W MM-1s from Crutchfield. The difference is like night and day. The MM-1s are so much clearer and don't have the muddy sound that the Bose do. B$Ws are higher than the Bose but I fell worth every penny of the difference. If you want really clear sound, save a little more money and get a set of B&Ws. If you want the fake surround sound, get the Bose. I enjoyed them for years not knowing there was anyone else who could make great sounding speakers. Overall they are not bad, but having both and switching back and forth, the MM-1s are a much better value at this price. Crutchfield had them to me two days after ordering, GREAT SERVICE!!! If Crutchfield has what I am wanting, that is where I will buy from now on.
Pros: These are pretty good speakers that do what Bose says they will. They produce a full and almost beleiveable surround sound. I've had them for four years now without any major problems. Seems to be a well made product.
Cons: For the price, you should get more. Another dislike is the same as one thing I like about them, they do what Bose says they will, nothing more. The sound should be cleaner than what it is.
Very happy with this product....as always with Bose products. You get what you pay for.
was given the campanion 5 system for my b day by the family great sound used it for music in a half court b ball sized hall at a church christmas party was asked to turn it down no one could hear each other talk. sounded muddy at first but i didnt have the volume control seated properly never thought of it as a 'surround sound' device nor is it billed as such so buy it and enjoy don't get caught up in stupidity like fiber optics [really fiber optics?!?great for data transfer but minimal benifit in audio i would think excpt in special cases] in technology sometimes more isn't better its just more. unfortunatly many people have more knowledge than they can properly process just because they can use it properly in a sentence doesnt mean they understand companion 5 makes what i listen to sound great from brams to zz top and beyond if i want surround sound [which i don't] i'll buy a system that has it. do people live to complain?? [like me] i'd buy another if i had the need. this is a great system with great sound that improves when you use the installation cd it really is great
I really love em. The remote volume control seemed useless but I use it all the time. The sound quality fills my office. Overfills it actually. I have no issue with the sound quality. Here are my few issues: Longer speaker, sub cables would have been super as having the option to distance them from your ears would be nice. They actually seem to sound better in the next room. -I so wish that the Bass control was on the remote as well. I often change the control as to accommodate others nearby. This would be a helpful feature. Not sure if anyone else feels the same. my .02 Great product. I would buy again.
Great sounding speakers whether for watching movies, playing games or listening to your favorite music. When I listen to CD's I've listened to many times over the years I hear things that I have never heard before, and completely clear whether the sound is low or loud. Completely worth the money you pay for them.
I bought this unit back in April 2007. Today, four years later, it is still the best set of computer speakers I've owned, no question about it.
I have owned several Bose audio products including their professional line in the past 10-15 years. I was so impressed with this one after all these years, I couldn't believe it. This thing is awesome!
I bought this set of speakers almost 3 years ago (They have not changed since to my knowledge.) so I have had quite a bit of time with them. I must say that, not considering the price, they sound decent; much better than a generic PC speaker system. That said, when you take price into the mix, they are not worth the money. The sub tends to have a muddy sound to it and the "full range" speakers in the 2 stands sound washed out most of the time. Also, these things bypass your sound card or DAC so you don't get to use any high quality audio outputs with these speakers. I recently bought a pair of AudioEngine A2's here and the sound is noticably better. The highs are clearer, voices aren't distant anymore, and the bass is well controlled and no longer muddy. Last but not least, the AudioEngine A2s are HALF THE PRICE! I would NOT recommend these at this price point. Bose got these things wrong... lower the price!
PROS: Very nice and clear sound good strong bass. neighbors will complain if you are staying above them, i brought these speakers without knowing that it did not need a sound card to work, I have to RMA the expensive sound card i brought. $359 for a set of good speakers without the need of buying sound card is a kind of saving too.it can be plugged to a laptop and sounds great because it does not need a sound card. Cons: the bass adjustment knob is behind the acoustics unit which is kind of hard to reach if a person needs to make constant adjustments to bass
Speaker sound is awsome. I am glad that I bought this unit. Cables would have been longer to get the real stereo. Manufacture should consider having fiberoptic audio cable connection also. I bought so many items from Crutchfield with confidence. Their services is very good.
Great sound quality, equal or better than my old 500w 5.1 Logitech system. Highly recommended.
Purchased these speakers from Crutchfield for Christmas. They are the real deal. I am absolutely totally impressed with the sound they produce from my iTunes music library. Couldn't be happier. Crutchfield's service is also outstanding. Thank you Bill. Cliff
I've a Windows PC running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Instalation was very very simple, just plug the USB cable while Windows is running and you're set. I'm by no means an audiophile, but the system sounds great to me. Music finally sounds like it's meant to, and I don't need to crank the volume up to max to enjoy it. 2 complaints: When I first listened to music, I had to lower the volume quite a bit as it was late at night. The sound, to my ears, was muddy. The next day I listened at a normal volume (not max volume) and it sounds incredible. I wish the volume for movies could be set louder, though, like in a theater. I watched a movie using the Windows Media Player with volume set to max and the speakers set to max, and while it was enjoyable, it could be louder. But as it stands, I still LOVE my new speakers. They're perfect enough to give them a five stars rating.
I was very impressed with the Bose Companion 5, it makes my games and music come alive especially the music from my ipod sounds like the artist is in the room with you.
Well...... let me tell you. I have always felt that Bose had great products. This time they have really did it. I heard these speakers in a demo...... WOW. I had no idea this kind of sound quality came out of such small, light weight speakers. The real magic is how they have far better sound quality and range than the systems with 5 speakers. I just watched a HD movie..... and if I had not know that these are intended for your computer.... I would have argued they were home monitor speakers for your big screen t.v. !! 5.1 has never sounded this perfect ! Really, I don't usually brag, but there is no comparison. Yes, they are not CHEAP !! But the old saying of you get what you pay for holds true to form here. If you are worried about the price, then you will miss the quality without ever getting to here true premium sound. If you listen to music, or watch movies, you will be blown away !! NO, I don't work in Bose marketing, but if you want to truly be amazed, listen, and you will automatically make up you mind that quality is #1 !! Hands down winner..... Bose = best. You be the judge...... hearing is believing !!!!
I'm not much for one taking the time to review a product, but I've decided to voice my opinion. At first, I was skeptical to purchase this product, but after researching and reading other reviews - I took the plunge. After recently converting to a iMac (and other Apple products), I previously enjoyed the performance of an analog 5.1 surround sound set-up with my PC. After purchasing the iMac last month, I found I was unable to use my existing audio setup. This prompted me to research available audio devices for the iMac. Again and again, I came across references to the Bose Companion 5 online. I even went as far to drive an hour from home to a Bose retailer to meet the Companion 5 in person! The only thing that was holding me back was the price and other reviewers that mentioned "not a 'true' surround sound". Once I purchased this system from Crutchfield and set it up, I quickly realized that I DID NOT make a mistake... It's compact, the fit and trim are perfect, setup is a breeze...and now, I sit back...and enjoy. Here are the pros and cons in my opnion: Pros: Sleek, compact design. Crisp, clean sound. Full, RICH Bass (no 'thudding'). Cons: price, and not a 'true' surround sound. HOWEVER, Bose has done a great job in fooling me! Think about it...research it...think about it again, and then buy it. You won't be disappointed... I hope this is helpful!
I was pleasantly surprised by the big sound and the quality of such a small package. Easy to install and sounds great. No complaints here.
i recently got this system and i figured wth ill pull my 400W stereo out of my room because its bulky and i dont need anything that loud.... best thing i ever could have done this system is way clearer then my stereo and just as loud other that the chest pumping base it had but none the less this bose system cant be touched by anything i have ever owned.... it is well worth the money and takes up very very little space
If you are looking for true surround sound, this system is not it. That being said, it is truly an excellent system for just two speakers and a power/sub woofer unit. The sound quality is typical Bose. I would definitely purchase this system again.
Since my daughter first introduced me to the world of Mp3 a number of years ago, I find myself listening to my music collection that I maintain on my computer much more frequently than my more grandiose home stereo. I thought my computer speakers adequate until I listened to the Bose Companion 5's at a retail store. I was amazed at the difference in sound reproduction. Now that I have them at home in my office I am more satisfied than ever of my selection. They sound wonderful. As my Dad used to say: "You'll never be sorry for buying the best"
Ladies and gentlemen, this speaker system is unbelievable. The sound goes beyond believable, crystal clear and rich. It is true, you must have a great sound card as well to maximize its potential. But all in all, this is the best PC speaker system I have owned. I purchased it 6 months ago, feeling a little guilty about the price; however, that guilt is non-existent today because I am extremely satisfied with product. No hassles, just high-end Bose quality. I highly recommend it to all in pursuit of superb sound for their computer.
To start, Hats off to incredible fast shipping, thanks crutchfield. I was a little skeptical at first because of the price and a 5.1 system with only 2 speakers and a sub, but I researched a little and took a chance. It was Very, Very, Very well worth it. First, now that it is set up, having to find room for only 2 speakers and a sub is great. Looks much neater. Second, installation is really easy. All you do is plug it in and hook up the USB. (Just remember to tap the top of the controller to make the led go green so the sound works, it took me a little while to figure that out. Duh to me.) Third, the sound is perfectly crystal clear with the sub under the desk and the two speakers up on the top ledge behind the computer monitor. Sounds like a Home theater system. And lastly, the price may look high, but in order to get anywhere near that sound, you going to need a good sound card, (close $150) and a really good speaker system ($150 to $250). So add the two and you’re already near or over $400.00 anyway. Highly recommended.
Before I purchased the system I read numerous reviews, some that rated the system very badly. Evidently, they must have received a system other than the one I receved. The Companion 5 system is absolutely fabulous!! Yes, It is pricy but its worth every penny. I highly recommend the system to anyone that wants great sound that has the money to spend. Way to go Bose, you have made another great product.
I would like to say that these Bose Companion 5's are amazing. I used to have Altec Lansing before, but these are the only ones that beat Altec Lansing. Amazing built quality, and the bass is truly amazing from a small sub.<BR>I would recommend this product to anyone who is willing to spend the money.<BR><BR>
The sound of these speakers is great, But I keep having problems with them. When my computer goes to sleep or restarts it can't find the speakers so I have to constantly re-Install them. What a hassle !
I'm amazed at the clarity of the c5s. They have a rich, clear sound I did not exspect from a pc speaker. I've have listened to every system out thier, and Bose won hands down.
I have been an avid audiophile years. I own Krell quipment for those in the know. I must say, these Bose speakers are very good. If they were not so expensive, I would give them 5 stars. They definitely have high end aspirations. I had Altec Lansings ATP3 before and these are a definite inmprovement. If you are looking for boomy bass, these are not for you. These speakers are about accuracy. Good placement are necessary for the best sound.<BR><BR>
Got this a week ago, and its great. I knew it would be awesome but it exceeded my expectations. Can get very loud, yet never distort. Even at full power. And the bass is very good as well, i have it at low because i dont want my apt neighbors complaining. This system is stylish and worth every penny.
I OWN THIS FINE PRODUCT FROM BOSE, AND I RECCOMEND THEM VERY HIGHLY, AS THEY WILL MAKE YOUR COMPUTER EXPERIENCE VERY ENJOYABLE.........THEY ARE PRICEY, HOWEVER I TRULY BELIEVE THAT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.......<BR>IF YOU ENJOY YOUR MUSIC OR VIDEOS OR WATCHING A MOVIE ON YOUR COMPUTER, YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED.........

Satellite Speakers: Each satellite uses dual 2" long-throw, wide-range drivers, mounted in an angled array, for lifelike, spacious sound. The satellites, which are permanently attached to their 6" stands, are magnetically shielded to prevent interference with a CRT-type monitor.
TrueSpace: The proprietary TrueSpace surround digital processing circuitry creates an enveloping sound environment from just two visible speakers. The system is designed for sitting at the computer. TrueSpace makes your music, games, movies, and other 5.1-channel decoded material sound like it's coming from a 5-speaker system.
Acoustimass Module: The Acoustimass Module delivers clean, deep low frequencies. The module can be hidden almost anywhere in the listening area and allows for small, elegant speakers without sacrificing performance. You can adjust the amount of bass output with the rotary Bass Compensation dial on the back of the bass module.
Control Pod: The multi-function pod houses volume control, a headphone jack, and a connection for a second audio source such as an MP3 player. Its touch-sensitive top lets you quickly mute the speakers, while the LED Mode Indicator shows you the status of the system: Active (green), Muted (amber), or Standby (red). The high-friction rubberized base prevents the control pod from moving around on your desk. Dimensions:
Active Equalization: The active equalization electronically tunes the frequency response, enabling outstanding audio performance for improved speech intelligibility.
Compression Circuitry: The system's compression circuitry lets you enjoy clear, undistorted sound, even at high volumes.
USB/Analog Inputs: The Companion 5 connects to your computer via a single USB connection. No special software, soundcard, adapters, or additional wiring is needed. An analog 3.5mm mini-jack input is available on the control pod for connecting a second audio source.
Computer Setup: Using a USB port, the Companion 5 bypasses the computer's soundcard. Bose recommends setting your computer's audio output to 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers (PC) or Multichannel (Mac).
Computer System Recommendation: For best performance, your computer should meet the following minimum requirements:

Product quality and sound [ CHRISTOPHER LEE Jan 03, 2016 ]
This is a Christmas gift and hasn't been opened yet so I am not sure if you can hook it up, but If your TV has an audio out port you should be able to hook them up with no problem. You may have to buy some kind of adapter cable but you may be able to get by with what you already have. If the bose set only has 1 imput slot you will to change from one source to another. or of you just want it for your TV you won't have to change it out.. If you don't find out I can e-mail you when it gets out of the box and I can see what hook up's it has in the back [ Billy Dec 05, 2016 ]
I have not done it, but if your tv has an 1/8" jack I don't see why you couldn't. It does not have a remote. [ Dennis Dec 05, 2016 ]
There's a 3.5 mm aux input on the controller. If your TV has an audio output, you should be able to connect your TV. The sound of this speaker system is awesome. [ JAY Dec 05, 2016 ]
NO [ DONALD K Jul 23, 2016 ]
The answer is NO. These speakers use USB as the connection vehicle. [ JohnQ Dec 29, 2015 ]
It looks like the connection from the computer to the speakers is a standard USB connection. You can find USB cables on our website here: http://www.crutchfield.com/shopsearch/usb_cable.html [ Jeff Dec 07, 2015 ] Staff
I have a iMac and it was able to detect the speakers via the USB connection without any problems. Very easy and no setup was even needed on the Mac. [ SHAIVIUS Dec 03, 2015 ]
The Bose speakers for my PC are superb! I love the sound! [ Harvey Dec 03, 2015 ]
The USB input can be used to bypass your computer's sound card for better performance. There is a 3.5 Mini-jack input, but it does not come with one of the cables. We do sell them though, and you can find one here: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142I335/Scosche-I335-Mini-Stereo-Cable.html [ Jeff Dec 04, 2015 ] Staff
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: This unit offers an analog 3.5mm input and if the customer has an external iPod DAC then they can certainly use the analog input on this product for connection. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy Apr 11, 2014 ] Staff
