About the Bose® SoundLink® Air digital music system

Ralph Graves
Bose SoundLink Air digital music system

Simple, convenient, wireless AirPlay connectivity.

The convenience of AirPlay® meets the legendary sound of Bose®

If you have an Apple iPhone®, iPad®, iPod touch®, or just use iTunes® on your computer, then you've probably heard of Apple AirPlay. This feature of iTunes lets you wirelessly stream music to a compatible speaker system — and control the system's volume remotely through iTunes. The Bose® SoundLink® Air lets you take full advantage of AirPlay's convenience and delivers your music with clear-room-filling sound.

The AirPlay advantage

The Bose® SoundLink® Air connects to your home wireless network to stream content from your Apple device. AirPlay uses Wi-Fi®, but it's more than just another wireless connection. You can stream audio from your iTunes library on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch directly to the Bose® SoundLink® Air. If you're wirelessly streaming music from the iTunes library on your laptop or desktop computer, you can use your Apple portable as a remote to make song and playlist selections, as well as adjust the volume of the speaker system.

You can simultaneously stream audio to multiple AirPlay-compatible speakers from your computer. So you can "broadcast" to Bose® SoundLink® Air systems in different rooms at the same time. The easy way to get multi-room audio!

Bose® technology makes the difference

The Bose® SoundLink® Air doesn't take up much space, but it can produce full, clean sound thanks to its innovative design. The system uses Bose® waveguide technology and neodymium drivers to efficiently produce warm, room-filling sound that belies its compact size. About the same dimensions as a hardcover book, this system is small enough to place just about anywhere in your home.

Not just for AirPlay

Of course, not every portable device in the world is an Apple product. And not every Apple device works with AirPlay. (After all, some of us still have our iPod classisc®). That's why the Bose® SoundLink® Air also has an auxiliary input, so you can play your smartphone, tablet, or other audio device through the system.

Features

Bose Waveguide Speaker Technology: The Bose SoundLink Air Digital Music System delivers rich, detailed sound. Advanced waveguide speaker technology, only from Bose, enables full-bodied sound, especially in lower registers, for more natural-sounding bass and percussion instruments.

AirPlay Technology: Apple's AirPlay technology allows music, downloaded to iTunes, to be streamed wirelessly from your Mac or PC to the Bose SoundLink Air. You can even bypass the computer entirely, and stream high-quality audio directly from your Apple iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad (all without the need to dock the device). The SoundLink Air and your AirPlay audio source must be connected to the same wireless network via a WiFi (802.11g/n) router or hub. A standard wireless home network has an approximately range of 65'.

  • iTunes Streaming: The Bose SoundLink Air is able to play audio from your computer's iTunes account either wirelessly (WiFi) using AirPlay streaming technology. When connected to the same network as a computer running iTunes, the SoundLink Air can appear as an output option in the pop-up menu at the bottom of the iTunes window. You can then browse your iTunes collection on your computer and stream music to the SoundLink Air. To use the AirPlay feature you need a Mac or Windows-based PC running iTunes (10.2.2 or later) connected to the same wireless (WiFi) network.
  • Apple Device Streaming: AirPlay also lets you wirelessly stream music and music apps stored on your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad to the SoundLink Air. So there's no need to dock your Apple device. AirPlay works with the iPod touch (3rd/4th gen), iPhone (3GS/4/4S/5/5C/5S), and iPad (1/2/3/4/mini) with iOS 4.3.3 or later; connected to the same wireless network.

Remote Control: The supplied wireless RF remote control operates power and volume, and can also play/pause and skip tracks within a playlist from almost anywhere in the room. The included remote operates off of a single CR2032 Lithium-cell 3-volt battery (installed). You can also download Apple's free Remote app from the App Store and control your iTunes library wirelessly from your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad (connected to the same WiFi network). You get to pick your next song with Play, Pause, Skip, Shuffle, and Repeat functions; along with volume control. The Apple Remote app is compatible with iPod touch (3rd/4th gen), iPhone (3GS/4/4S/5/5C/5S), and iPad (1/2/3/4/mini); with iOS 4.3.3 or later installed.

Note: The SoundLink's wireless remote does not control any device plugged into the system's Auxiliary input.

Simple Setup: To set up the system, simply connect it to a computer on your wireless network with the included USB cable and enter the URL http://www.bose.com/wifisetup. The site will walk you through the steps to set up and configure your speaker system. Once you're up and running, the SoundLink Air system communicates with your AirPlay devices wirelessly over your home network, and you can move it anywhere you want to listen to your music.

Multi-Room Distribution: If you have more than one SoundLink Air, you can use them in an multi-room system. You can play the same music soundtrack from your computer's iTunes account on every Bose SoundLink Air in your home or select which SoundLink Air you want to listen to from your computer. You can only stream to one SoundLink Air from an iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad.

Aux Input: The SoundLink Air Digital Music System has a rear-panel 3.5mm auxiliary input for connecting a external portable audio source other than your Apple AirPlay device.

Auto Power Off: After 20 minutes of no activity, the system automatically turns off.

AC Power: The Bose SoundLink Air operates off of standard household current using the included AC power adapter.

  • Input: 100-240V~50/60Hz, 1.3A
  • Output: 20V - 2A
Note: An optional rechargeable battery (018SDBATB, sold separately) turns the system into a portable speaker that you can carry easily from room to room with its built-in handle.

A
I am using iOS 7.04 and have no problem with it. Maybe you have to reinstall it again on the computer. I already had iOS 7.04 when I bought the speaker.
