Our take on the Bose® SoundLink® Air digital music system

Bose SoundLink Air digital music system

Simple, convenient, wireless AirPlay connectivity.

The convenience of AirPlay® meets the legendary sound of Bose®

If you have an Apple iPhone®, iPad®, iPod touch®, or just use iTunes® on your computer, then you've probably heard of Apple AirPlay. This feature of iTunes lets you wirelessly stream music to a compatible speaker system — and control the system's volume remotely through iTunes. The Bose® SoundLink® Air lets you take full advantage of AirPlay's convenience and delivers your music with clear-room-filling sound.

The AirPlay advantage

The Bose® SoundLink® Air connects to your home wireless network to stream content from your Apple device. AirPlay uses Wi-Fi®, but it's more than just another wireless connection. You can stream audio from your iTunes library on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch directly to the Bose® SoundLink® Air. If you're wirelessly streaming music from the iTunes library on your laptop or desktop computer, you can use your Apple portable as a remote to make song and playlist selections, as well as adjust the volume of the speaker system.

You can simultaneously stream audio to multiple AirPlay-compatible speakers from your computer. So you can "broadcast" to Bose® SoundLink® Air systems in different rooms at the same time. The easy way to get multi-room audio!

Bose SoudLink Air digital music system

Use your favorite Apple device as your remote when streaming via AirPlay.

Bose® technology makes the difference

The Bose® SoundLink® Air doesn't take up much space, but it can produce full, clean sound thanks to its innovative design. The system uses Bose® waveguide technology and neodymium drivers to efficiently produce warm, room-filling sound that belies its compact size. About the same dimensions as a hardcover book, this system is small enough to place just about anywhere in your home.

Not just for AirPlay

Of course, not every portable device in the world is an Apple product. And not every Apple device works with AirPlay. (After all, some of us still have our iPod classisc®). That's why the Bose® SoundLink® Air also has an auxiliary input, so you can play your smartphone, tablet, or other audio device through the system.

Product Highlights:

  • wireless powered speaker system
  • Apple AirPlay lets you stream music wirelessly from your iPod touch, iPhone, iPad, or computer
  • Bose® waveguide speaker technology for clear, room-filling sound
  • use your Apple portable as a remote for the system while you stream audio

  • AC power adapter
  • 12"W x 6-3/4"H x 3-3/16"D

Very easy to set up but you must do it from a computer, not an iPad or phone. Sound is excellent and I would even consider getting another one for use on another floor of my house. Like all Bose products, somewhat overpriced.

Pros: Easy setup, excellent sound

Cons: Price

Bad product

Anonymous from Union, New Jersey on 9/16/2013

I received the Bose Soundlink Air as a birthday gift as this was something a really wanted. What a disappointment!! First of it worked well for an entire 4 monthS, then out of nowhere when playing my music from my phone or ipad the sound would chip in and out for a long period of time. I figured this was happening maybe because the device was far away from the Bose speaker. So I would place my iphone on top of the speakers to ensure it's in good range. That didn't work!! I called Bose ITEC and the response was "this is a common problem and there is no way to fix this" smh. Needless to say Im stuck with a speaker that works whenever it feels like. I wished I would've returned it when I first received it , I would've returned it and gotten the regular Bose where I could've just put my iphone on the deck without any issues.

Cons: Music chips in and out for a long period of time.

Pricey, but worth every penny

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My wife is firmly in the Apple camp, and I'm just as firmly in Microsoft / Android camp. This product allows us both to be "happy as clams." Easy to install; robust sound. And we both can play music and vary volume, etc. from our phones/laptops/iPads.

Pros: Great sound; easy install; works in Apple/iPhone and Microsoft/Android environments.

Cons: it would be great if it were $50 to $100 less.

Great sound!

The Bose SoundLink AirPlay sounds perfect and I don't hear any distortions at all. Very easy setup but make sure your wifi router software is up to date.

Pros: Perfect sound and easy setup.

Cons: May require updating router software to use airplay without dropping signal.

Pretty neat little speaker...

Georgina Guns from Colorado on 10/7/2012

This little speaker is pretty neat although it took a couple software updates to get it compatible to my "ancient" iMac and Macbook...we were running 10.5.8 on both and according to the set up instructions, you need at least 10.6. After a couple software upgrades (which is another story since Apple doesn't sell snow leopard in stores anymore) we are hooked up and can listen to music anywhere in the house! I marked it down one star because I'm not quite sure about the remote. It turns the speaker on and off as well as works the volume but haven't figured out how to play, pause or advance songs...maybe it doesn't do that? Oh, one more thing, make sure the volume on your device is WAAAAY down before you push play, about blew my ear drums out the first time we played a song. Also, it looks like after I got it set up on the macbook (which is now running on 10.7), it can also play on the ancient iMac (which is only running on 10.5.8) so maybe I didn't need to upgrade after all? Overall, nice speaker, nice sound and pretty happy with my birthday present.

Pros: Good sound, easy to use, light, portable

Cons: So far, remote only turns on and off and controls the volume but looks like it is set up to do much more than that.

I am using iOS 7.04 and have no problem with it. Maybe you have to reinstall it again on the computer. I already had iOS 7.04 when I bought the speaker. [ LINDA A  Feb 23, 2014 ]
