Overview

Our take on the Clarion CCA649 iPod Cable

Clarion's CCA649 data cable does more than just let you listen to your iPod through your VRX755VD or VRX765VD in-dash DVD/CD player. It even recreates the look and feel of Apple's control panel right on the stereo's touchscreen monitor.

Clarion's CCA649 data cable does more than just let you listen to your iPod through your VRX755VD or VRX765VD in-dash DVD/CD player. It even recreates the look and feel of Apple's control panel right on the stereo's touchscreen monitor.

You get complete command over playback features like start/stop, forward/reverse, and shuffle/repeat, as well as access to all of your playlists. Track and artist information show up on the display, and the oversized Click Wheel makes it easy to jump between songs and folders.

Your Clarion DVD player also allows for two-zone entertainment, allowing you to listen to the iPod up front, while the kids watch a DVD on the rear monitors you've added to the system.

It is a great addition to the clarion radios. I read all the rewviews about the product and the main thing everyone mentioned was the lack of charging while it is connected, THAT IS ABSOLUTELY FALSE!!! Its charges no problem.

I agree with the other 2 guys

Calvin from Detriot, MI on 2/19/2006

After reading the other 2 reveiws, I figured what the heck. Well, It is great in a way and in others very annoying. The part about unplugging it is very inconvenient. If you forget be prepared for a dead iPod. The menue system not having an "all" selection is also a little annoying due to not having all of my id tags done. The part about it not rechargeing while pluged in, is a big deal. Neither of my iPods last all that long so this would have been a big plus to have had. All in all I will use it some but will probably just plug it into an input and use the iPod as I always have.

Almost Perfect

Gordon from Dallas, TX on 5/5/2005

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This interface is almost perfect. It does ALMOST everything they said it would. I bet you're more interested in what the problem is rather than all the good things it does, so here it is. After selecting Artist, the unit takes you to the next screen where it shows you the Albums for that Artist, just like the iPod. On this screen (albums), it does NOT show you the word "All" listed first as the iPod does. Even though the screen shots on Clarion.com showed this. This presents a problem when your files do not have Album names tagged on them because the songs will not be shown using this search method. It's as if they don't exist. Also, if your artist doesn't have ANY Album names tagged, you get a blank screen with no way to play the songs that ARE there. Also, if you wanted to listen to ALL the songs in a particular Genre, like Rock or Country, you cannot.

Your Best Bet

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was pretty sceptical. The other ipod adaptors seemed like they were missing something, so I thought this one would be too. Quite the opposite. The touch-screen becomes a fully functional ipod control and the sound is fantastic! I have over 5,000 songs by over 100 artists, and Clarion's setup makes it just as easy to find a song as it would be with the ipod alone. Pretty expensive to buy the head unit, but if you're even thinking about getting a DVD system, this is the way to go. The ipod cable gets it's own dedicated port on the head unit, so no worries about adding a changer, camera, etc. From what I've seen, Clarion really has the market cornered with this type of control system. Great product!

Features

Overview: The CCA-649 iPod connecting cable allows you to fully control your Apple iPod digital music player from the Clarion VRX755VD or VRX765VD DVD/CD receivers. When in the iPod mode, a special iPod display appears, giving you control of all of the player's functionality. When connected to the cable, your iPod operates off of its own battery power; the Clarion receiver and the CCA-649 cable will not power or charge your iPod.

Note: The unit is compatible with third generation and newer iPods, third generation (version 2.2), fourth generation iPods (versions 3.01 and 3.02), iPod Mini (version 1.2), iPod nano, and iPod video. First and second generation iPods are not compatible.
