Not worth it. Wanted to love it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this remote to replace my MW1 remote, which is connected to my CMD6 headunit. I wanted to love the MW4, as I have been looking for a remote with knob style volume control for quite a while. This remote is complete garbage. When you turn the knob, it takes about 3 seconds for the headunit and remote to react. Lets say you turn the remote down 3 volume clicks. Count 1-2-3, then the volume goes down to which you need to count an additional 1-2-3. If you turn the knob down 3 clicks and then back up 2 clicks, the lag time takes the volume down 3 clicks and then back up 2 clicks. This operation takes no shorter than 5 seconds. This remote is very glitchy and lags. I was thinking of purchasing a new M606 headunit to see if this resolves the problem, but I am hesitant.

Pros: Knob style volume control

Cons: Lagging response and glitchy

Nice Remote

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Note that this rating is based on the MW4 operating an older Clarion CMD6. Using this remote with Clarion's current marine head units may unlock its full potential. Functionally, the MW4 is no easier or more difficult to use than the MW1 & 2. The color screen has a blue background. The title data or menu data displayed on the screen is very small and only uses a third of the available screen space. The lack luster visuals of the screen and the fact that the functionality is exactly the same as Clarion's less expensive remotes are the reason for the 3 rating. Again, I am grateful that the MW4 operates with such a wide range of Clarion's units and using an up to date head unit may be the ticket for its full potential.

Pros: Good basic functionality to control your head unit remotely. Easy to install Good looks

Cons: No better functionality than Clarion's less expensive remotes Lack luster display (using with an older Clarion CMD 6)

Not ready for prime time

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It was hard to find information on this product before purchase so I took a chance and just ordered it. The product is very disappointing and appears to need work on the firmware. The interface looks nothing like the screenshots shown on the box or Clarion marketing materials. You basically get the same display and functionality as with their MW1 remote (which this was going to replace). Also the interface is Very sluggish. Turing the volume knob has a delay and the screen is slow to update. Meta data titles still scroll in a small portion of the screen instead of taking advantage of the full width. I figured this remote would make scrolling through SiriusXM channels and iPOD interface songs much easier. Nope. Works the same as their other remotes. No listings, just one song at a time. Needless to say I will be returning this.

Pros: No pros over their MW1 remote.

Cons: - Sluggish interface - No instructions included - Interface looks nothing like screenshots shown on marketing materials

2.8" Optically Bonded LCD: The MW4 wired marine remote control features a 2.8" color optically-bonded LCD screen and white LED button illumination. The LCD screen will show source selection, song/artist information, and menu settings.

IR Repeater: The MW4 features a built-in IR repeater, so it can work with your Clarion marine head unit's wireless remote control.

Wiring: The attached 11" cable on the MW4 connects to the back of your Clarion marine head unit. Because the attached cable is only 11" long, in most cases an extension cable will be needed (020MWRXCRT, sold separately). Up to three extension cables totaling 75' can be daisy-chained together.

Note: The MW4 can be used in conjunction with Clarion's MF1 marine RF remote control (020MF1, sold separately). This type of setup requires a proprietary Y-adapter (020MWRYC, sold separately).

Surface Mount Bracket: The remote comes with an aluminum surface mount C-clamp. The remote mounts to the front of your mounting surface, while the mounting bracket mounts behind the mounting surface. The bracket attaches to the back of the remote via the included hardware and sandwiches the mounting surface in between the remote and bracket. You will need to drill two 0.1875" screw holes to attach the bracket to the remote, and you'll will need drill out a 0.8125" (in diameter) opening for the wired remote's cable to pass-through.
