Your single-DIN (2" tall) dash opening shouldn't stop you from taking advantage of in-dash navigation and DVD compatibility. Clarion's NZ503 navigation receiver sports a retractable 7" color touchscreen display that gives you access to detailed maps and a whole lot more. You control the action just by flicking your finger across the screen, like you'd do with your smartphone. You'll also have DVD playback, hands-free calling through your compatible phone, and a plethora of sound source options right at your fingers.
Whether you're a daily commuter or visiting family in another time zone, you'll appreciate the NZ503's built-in maps of the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, especially when displayed on the big fold-out display. You'll also have 15 million points of interest at your disposal, so you'll never be at a loss for food, gas, or other essentials. The receiver will even let you know when you're traveling over the posted speed limit, and give you audio prompts for every upcoming maneuver. Visual aids such as junction view and lane guidance help keep you on the right path.
It's always a decision when your phone rings on the highway — do you answer it or concentrate on the road? Built-in Bluetooth lets you talk hands-free on your compatible phone so you can keep your hands on the wheel. When a call comes in, you can tap the screen to answer the call and hear your caller over the speakers. And you can even stream tunes if your Bluetooth device supports it.
Clarion's NZ503 receiver gives you all the benefits of a big touchscreen receiver without taking up a ton of dash space.
The NZ503's compatible with Clarion's outboard HD Radio™ tuner, so you can pick up AM and FM broadcasts with increased fidelity from participating stations. If you're a satellite radio fan, the receiver's ready to add SiriusXM programming with your subscription and an optional tuner.
The stereo also offers three sets 4-volt preamp outputs for system-building flexibility. You also get low- and high-pass crossovers, a built-in subwoofer control, and three equalizer bands for tweaking the sound. Clarion includes a handy remote for on-the-fly changes.
Connect your iPod or iPhone® to the rear USB slot, and you'll get touchscreen control over your tunes — no adapter required for audio. You'll also get control over your phone's Pandora Internet radio app when connected. Add an optional adapter, and you can play videos from most Apple devices on the 7" screen when you're parked.
The NZ503 plays your store-bought and recordable CDs and DVDs, including those you've loaded with MP3 and WMA files. You can enjoy digital music files from a USB thumb drive, too.
Enjoy watching DVDs up front while you're parked, or hook up a video screen in the back so the kids can watch movies as you drive — thanks to Clarion's dual-zone mode, your backseat passengers can watch a video while you and your co-pilot enjoy music up front. And if you're safety conscious, the NZ503 offers a dedicated rear-view camera input for your optional camera.
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Clarion stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Clarion, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.
Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.
iPod note: If you're going to use your iPod or iPhone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.
One of the best items I sean
Average Customer Review(s):
One of the best items I sean
Pros: It is one of the best items I sean and to own
The Clarion NX-503 is loaded with features and very easy to use. The screen is sensative to the touch and allows for quick maneuverability between Apps. I added Sirius XM RADIO and it works great. Bluetooth is flawless and pairing quick and easy. Using the provided USB Cable, I can charge my phone and IPad and use ITunes etc. I did not connect the rear view camera, but may do so later. The beauty of this unit, you can expand and use features as you like. The unit has very good sound and when playing DVD movies the screen looks very good. Navigation is very good with many choices in announcement voices. Navigation has 3D colorful screens with many choices on vehicle Icons. Navigation is as good as my factor Navigation in my year old car.
Pros: Feature rich, easy to use, great value for the money. Single DIN unit with DVD, Bluetooth, Navigation and expandable to include HD Radio, Sirius XM, back up camera etc. Crutchfield Customer service is the best out of any company I ever bought something from, seriously excellent!
Cons: First unit had bad sub menu screen, but Crutchfield's fantastic Customer Service sent out a replacement right away and the second unit works great.
Fits great with the NZ503 Clarion receiver, a must have.
I gest love my new Clarion nz503. Everything works fine and I have been telling friends and family how satisfied I'm am . Thanks
Expensive junk have had to replace unit and that one has now failed will never buy this brand again. Crutchfield did all they could but when the equipment is no good end game.
Cons: failures of units, hard to program,
Excellent stereo with very good features that actually work. Not like some other brands that have the features but only one or two of them work.
Pros: Phone, navigation, back up camera are super.
Cons: Haven't found one yet.
Clarion NZ503 it's a really great DVD head unit easy to used and the navigation looks great
Pros: Easy to used navigation looks great and easy I installed in my 94 bronco it fits perfect and sounds great
Cons: The only part it's the volume buttons are not that great
Nice sound, plenty of features. The GPS works as it should with no surprises. An multiband EQ would be required for a higher end sound system, which this lacks (only 3 band with gains).
Easy to install and it works great.
I bought this unit mainly for hands free telephone and it is very very hard for people to hear me on it
Pros: looks good
Cons: does not work the phone very well
The first unit fan did not work on day one. Crutchfield expressed ship me a replacement no questions asked. Very impressive of Cruthfield customer service. As for the unit itself. Not sure why but I have no guidance sound. Possibly because its hooked up to the Clarion EQ? I am not sure. It mutes the audio but does not speak. Ofcourse I have adjusted the settings-I have 6 vehicles and regardless they all have either factory or aftermarket Navigation. The Navigation itself so far responds quickly, Audio is good, rear camera good.
Pros: Single DIN nav Rear camera Nav displays
Cons: Quality concern; first one didn't work correctly Second one voice guidance so far not correctable no guidance voice
There was no ease of operation with this unit. The responsiveness of the touch screen was uneven. There are constant warnings about avoiding distractions while driving but operating the receiver requires too much attention. The speed limit warning interrupts audio and is exceedingly annoying. The voice is like having an electronic mother-in-law constantly nagging you. A beep and a blinking icon would suffice. The manual is terrible and goes through a million other options other than what you see (like finding how to mute the electronic nagging). Far too high maintenance! For the price, one would think it would at least be on a par with OEM nav system radios. It does not come close. I can't get this out of my vehicle soon enough. I'll never buy another Clarion product.
Pros: Nav system with Serius XM and AM/FM/DVD all in one.
Cons: Too difficult to operate. Terrible owner's manual/installation instructions. Poor audio quality. Screen won't auto-close when ignition is switched off. Way overpriced.
Totally unsatisfied, unit was wonky from day one. GPS worthless. Poor reception on tuner. Receiver would mute for no reason what so ever. You never knew what it was going to do.
Pros: Thanks to Crutchfield for excellent customer support and service, I was able to swap for an excellent Kenwood replacement.
Cons: Too many to list.
The first unit failed within 10 months. Crutchfield replaced it under warranty, true to my experience that Crutchfield always provides exceptional service. The second unit failed 3 years later, the screen went blank and after hitting the reset button the unit was useless. Crutchfield referred me to Clarion US. Clarion US referred me to a third party and hung up when I asked to speak with a manager. The third party repairer estimated $200 minimum to repair the unit and guesses that a bad screen would need to be sent back to Clarion. Don't buy products from Clarion, the quality is very poor and after spending hundreds of dollars the life of this radio is entirely unacceptable.
Pros: The screen looked nice, this radio has great features, the remote was fun (but somewhat useless)
Cons: The clock turned off when the unit was turned off. The GPS interruptions to music and itunes was very poorly integrated. The screen was not sensitive enough, it was difficult; and sometimes impossible; to navigate around when playing itunes music. Product quality was awful (the unit failed after 36 months).
Great system!Really enjoy all the features!
Pros: Very clear,very detailed..
Worked wonderful until the warranty ran out. After 14 months my screen went "white". I had sound. The radio and the Bluetooth phone worked. I just had no screen so I had no controls. I tried the reset. Lost everything. Clarion customer service stinks. Crutchfield was wonderful but the problem was out of their hands. All in all it would have cost me about $400 to find out what was wrong, plus parts and return shipping. I bought a new Jensen that does everything the NZ503 did for what Clarion wanted to tell me what was wrong with my 14 month old stereo.
Pros: When it worked. Screen was nice and clear. Great sound. Thought i had the best stereo with NAV and back up camera in th e world. Would have highly recommend it to everyone.
Cons: Screen didn't automatically retract when motor was dhut off. Screen sensitivity was unpredictable at times. Not much bad to say zbout it when it works under warranty. After that, well lets say their customer service needs some HELP.
Large responsive touch screen. Good navigation display
Pros: Large responsive screen. Good 3D navigation app. Multiple inputs including backup camera, Sirius radio and thumb drive. Auto open when car starts.
Cons: Does not auto close when turning car off. When using Sirius radio it will lock up if you cycle trough the stations fast. These are minor annoyances and I would purchase another one if I had another vehicle that did not have a touch screen radio.
The clarion nz 503 is a great device and i mean great! it is very user friendly and has all the features you could ever want and at a price that is more affordable than Other in dash navigation reciever.
Pros: The blue tooth compatibility is really nice and a great feature for blue tooth audio streaming. The gps is just as good and the sound quality is unbelievable
Seams like a better then ave unit , good sound ,more bells and whisles then I know what to do with and Gps seam to be far better then stand alone gps. I really enjoy it turns of music when gps is talking ,making it much easyer to use and can crank up the music and still get to where I'm going .
Pros: Good unit , good sound ,able to enjoy my music in any format I wish . Easy to wire and easy to use , made for real people not just teck freaks .
Cons: It is a bit pricy and for the money I would think Hd radio could be included ,instead of anouther $100. ad on .
Although I have not put in the rest of the speakers and amp, the unit itself is superb, and far superior to the alpine unit I had previously and the gps consolidates that concept. Meaning I no longer need another device for that job.
Pros: Everything necessary for car video and audio are here.
Cons: I wish I could detach the face for anti theft security purposes.
So far I am very pleased with the quality and performance of this product. I am also very happy about the process of purchasing it through Crutchfield. My customer service representative was very helpful and made the whole purchase process effortless. I would definitely recommend friends and family to this site. I would also recommend this product.
Great sound plenty Rolf out put ease of use
Pros: Sound, ease of use, expandable
Cons: Not many options for equilizer
This product was worth the money! We drove from Alaska to Nevada and it was such a great help and savior! Would buy again in a heartbeat!
Love this item. It does everything I was looking. Looks and sounds good.
Works well, like the display, easy to use
Bought NZ503 for wife's Liberty because it's the best (and really only) large screen Nav unit that fits single DIN location. I've installed units from both Kenwood&Alpine which are basis for comparison my NZ503 feedback (first Clarion unit I've owned). Initial feedback is (1) Provide menu option for automatically retracting TFT screen when the car turns off: Clarion explained reason for not providing this function is because there is chance screen could hit obstruction (i.e. shifter) in some car models while retracting thus damaging the unit. OK, maybe in some cars, but why would you limit function to ALL customers. this is why you would have a menu option. Very annoying that it requires you mannualy retract the screen before shutting off car each time. (2) USB Audio function is teribly implemented. Screen layout cumersome w/only file names displayed (vs. ID3 info crammed into small box) Who cares what name of MP3 file is??? (3) Bluetooth audio only comes out of one front speaker but not both. Clarion gave excuse about optimizing sound for wide variety of cars but I don't buy it. My Alpine/Kenwood both have BT audio present in all speakers and works fine. (4) Accessibility of human tech support for consumers: 800 number is useless because it basically says I can use the website or get list of repair centers/retailers. This is insulting to someone who just spent $$$ on your unit and gives impression Clarion can't be bothered to give me a human answer tech Q's.
Pros: Really the only show in town if you want large touchsreen NAV receiver in single DIN location
Cons: Some poorly executed functions/features limit enjoyment/utility and good luck getting live customer support!
This unit (with free backup cam) is an overall disappointment. Out of the box, everything was there and the instructions were thorough. Once installed, it performed all advertised functions. The sound seemed fine, no problem tuning distant stations, nice display. Now for the reasons I'm not thrilled with this unit: 1. Touch screen not solid - wobbles when pressed 2. Long boot time. Takes about 10 seconds to become "live" after starting the car. 3. Not effective for a backup cam when running with the screen in - it needs to pop out every time you put it in reverse. 4. Random slow touch screen response, especially when using an iPod. So far the record is 8 touches of the iPod icon before actually getting this unit to switch to the appropriate screen (and yes, I used the pad of my finger not my nail) 5. Very non-intuitive navigation interface. This isn't a Garmin I know, but the interface design is NOT intuitive at all - just look at the separate book Clarion includes to explain the interface. If it takes that much explanation, it's not a good interface 6. The GPS voice is extremely low and can't be raised (at least I can't figure it out - see my previous comment on an intuitive interface) 7. I have a Corvette - stiff suspension. The screen wobbles more than I'd like. 8. The included Clarion CC510 (by Crutchfield) camera is AWFUL. You get what you pay for. Distorted, limited, grainy, dim view. Piece of junk.
Pros: Fits a single DIN slot. Ingenious way of squeezing a lot into a little room. Bright screen. Decent sound. Looks nice.
Cons: If you can't fit a double din box, this is really the only route and it is not a bad compromise. However, given the above issues, I'd say it's a couple of hundred bucks overpriced. Poor GPS interface. Slow touch screen response. World's worse backup cam.
Everything I wanted.
I wanted a factory replacement radio that had the same features as the factory radio, but I did not want to modify my dash to make it fit. This radio fit the bill. Sound quality is outstanding. Boot time is fast. It has more features than you could want.
Pros: Q sound equalizer, LPF and HPF make it very flexible in getting the sound that you want. Easy installation.
Cons: While the IPAD like features are very cool. It is like driving and using an IPAD at the same time. Not advisable!!! Also show some love to the Android fans, not everyone likes iPhone/iPhone tech.
Nice and clean appearance, both closed and open. All functions work nicely.
Pros: Clear gps
Cons: Takes some time to get uses to the buttons
Dual zones, 3D navigation, Bluetooth phone, built-in EQ and crossover features, Pandora, SiriusXM, HD Radio, USB audio and video, you can't ask for much more. The touchscreen is responsive and quick. It does take a little getting used to. The lack of knobs is an initial worry, but with a little practice on the touchscreen, you don't miss them. The sound is crisp and clear and the unit has enough options to get the sound just the way you want it. The navigation is top-notch with nice add-ins such as over speed limit alerts and red-light and speed camera warnings. The 3D look gives the unit a modern feel that rivals and exceeds many factory provided units. Dual zone is great! I can finally listen to whatever I want and the backseat passengers (kids) can watch Sirius backseat TV or a DVD movie. This is a strong recommend for anyone who has a single DIN and don't want to do any customizations to get double DIN features.
Pros: Dual zones, Flexible A/V setups, modern navigation, excellent sound, Bluetooth phone
Cons: Need iPod/iPAD and adapter to get best use of Pandora radio, Bluetooth sound does not operate smoothly, Model is not supported yet on the navigation update website.

Motorized Retractable 7.0" Touchscreen: The Clarion NZ503 has a motorized, retractable 7.0" TFT widescreen display with touchscreen controls. The display provides a high-resolution video monitor for watching your DVD videos. The screen has a resolution of 800 x 480 (RGB) and 1,152,000 total pixels. The unit's touchscreen features interactive controls & video graphics making menu navigation easy.
Display Angles: You can adjust the display's angle (0-5) for best visibility. After the viewing angle has been set, the unit will return the display to that angle each time, even if the unit is turned off.
Touchscreen GUI with Flick Operation: The GUI (Graphical User Interface) shows large icons that are highly visible and easily recognizable at a glance. Feature icons are animated for an enhanced appearance. The NZ503's touchscreen GUI (Graphical User Interface) supports flick operation, so you can quickly scroll to another menu page.
Start Up Time: The NZ503 has a start up time of approximately 14.5 seconds from Off to an audio/video source screen; and another 17.2 seconds to the map screen for a total start up time of approximately 31.7 seconds from Off to the navigation map screen.
Monitor Adjustments: The Clarion NZ503 offers the following touchscreen monitor adjustments.
Hard-Key Buttons + 2nd Display: In addition to its main LCD touchscreen, when the NZ503 is in the "closed" position, the informative 12-digit white LCD offers maximum visibility in a space-saving package. Since the vast majority of functions are controllable from the touchscreen, there are only 11 physical buttons on the unit for the most basic & commonly-used functions.
Parking Brake Detection: To prevent the displaying of video while the vehicle is in motion, the bright green wire in the supplied 18-pin harness must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. While the vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the other displays and menus.
Anti-Theft Code: You may program the unit with a 4 digit security code. Once the unit has been programmed with a security code, the code must be entered to use the unit after it has been disconnected from power.
Navigation Mapping Software: The integrated map database (by TeleAtlas) used by the Clarion NZ503 was created using high-resolution aerial and land based data collection. Navigation data is stored on the unit's preloaded 4GB microSD-card for quick access and response. The NZ503 provides map coverage of the United States (all 50 states), Canada, and Puerto Rico. The Clarion NZ503's integrated iGo Primo navigation software provides turn-by-turn visual and voice assistance to direct you to your selected destination. The built-in software quickly calculates step-by-step directions to any destination available on the included navigation map.
Note: Car navigation maps are frequently updated. While this database was judged to be as accurate as possible at the time of its release, a map database can never be 100% accurate. Road information that is maintained in the map databases, such as turn restrictions or road names may change over time.
Map Updates: It is easy to keep the navigation system up to date. Simply download new map data from Clarion's portal site (clarion.naviextras.com), store the updated map data on a microSD card and insert it into the Clarion NZ503 via the side-panel microSD card slot. You have 30 days from purchase to download the latest available map free of charge.
GPS (Global Position System): Clarion's built-in navigation helps you find your way to your destination with an integrated GPS receiver & external GPS antenna. The Clarion NZ503 features a built-in SiRFprima GPS receiver and includes an external magnetic GPS antenna. The NZ503 uses Global Position System (GPS) satellites, and a digital roadway map database to calculate and display vehicle positioning and travel direction. The NZ503 considers vehicle speed an heading changes, together with longitude and latitude information, to accurately determine vehicle heading and position on a digital map. Signal from GPS satellites are used to determine the vehicle location. Three (good) or four (best) satellites must be receive to accurately determine location.
On-Screen Map: The unit's on-screen map shows your vehicle's current position (a red arrow by default), the recommended route (an magenta line), the surrounding map area, and your destination as a checkered flag. The on-screen map shows streets, roads, and highways in a way that is similar to how a paper road map show them. A road's width and colors corresponds to their importance, so you can easily tell a freeway from a small street. When navigating a route, the top section of the map screen shows information about your next route maneuver and the next street or the next city/town. When approaching a turn, the map screen will zoom in and raise the view angle to let you easily recognize your maneuver at the next junction. If the next turn is at a distance, it will zoom out and lower the view angle to be flat so you can see the road in front of you. The map also displays data; such as the posted speed limit, your current speed, current time, distance to your destination, time left before you reach your destination, and your arrival time.
Lane Information & Signposts: The Clarion NZ503's navigation map offers helpful lane information & signpost guidance.
Audible Alerts: The Clarion NZ503 offers various audible alerts and functions to help you get to your destination safely.
Where Am I?: This screen contains information about the current position (or approximately the last known position if GPS reception is not available) and a button to search for POIs nearby.
Find Menu: The Find Menu gives you many different ways to choose your destination or insert a waypoint in your current route. An on-screen keyboard appears to allow you to enter your destination from one of the following categories:
|Find on Map||Search for a destination by scrolling the map display.|
|Home||Store and easily recall your home address.|
|Find Address||Enter full/partial address, or Search for a city (central location), or Search for the intersection of two roads.|
|Find Places||Search for over 15,000,000 points-of-interest (POIs) by name, phone #, or category; search near your current location, in a specific city, along your current route, or near your destination.|
|Favorites||Store your favorite locations for easy recall.|
|History||Destinations that you have set previously|
|Coordinates||Enter geographic coordinates (latitude & longitude).|
|Phone Number||Select a destination by entering phone #.|
|Photo||Select locations from geotagged JPEG photos from an inserted USB or SD/SDHC memory device.|
|Waypoints||You can add intermediate destinations along your main route.|
Route Calculation: The Clarion NZ503 calculates your route based on your Vehicle Type, Route Method, and Avoidances.
Vehicle Profile: You can create a vehicle profile for your car, truck, or SUV. Enter the following parameters for your vehicle - Fuel Consumption (avg. fuel consumption of your vehicle in city and rural areas), Engine Type (engine and fuel type), Fuel Price (avg. fuel price for travel cost calculation), Max Speed (max speed you travel), Weight, and Dimensions (length x width x height).
Trip Logs: Trip logs contain useful information about your trip. Trip logs can be saved manually when you reach your destination or automatically along your route. Trip log data includes - Start/End Time, Avg./Max. Speed, Total/Driving/Stopped Time, Total Distance, and Min./Max. Altitude.
Automatic Route Recalculation: The unit will automatically recalculate your route if you stray from the navigation unit's previously calculated route.
Route Simulation: You can preview all the route information and simulate travel along a projected route.
Calculator: The calculator allows you to perform simple arithmetic.
Bluetooth Technology (powered by Parrot): The Clarion NZ503 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth ver. 2.0+EDR (powered by Parrot), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit.
Bluetooth Profiles: In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Clarion NZ503. Visit Clarion Bluetooth Support for complete list of compatible phones and players.
Pairing: Before using your Bluetooth enabled device, it must be paired to the NZ503. You can register up to three Bluetooth enabled cell-phones with the Clarion in-dash head unit (only one paired phone can be used at a time).
Hands-Free Communication: The NZ503 supports Bluetooth hands-free communication from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The NZ503 can be set to automatically answer your incoming calls and mute any music audio to your vehicle's speakers so you can instantly carry on a phone conversation hands-free. An integrated front-panel microphone carries on your side of the conversation while your car's speakers are used to hear the other person. You can make a call by entering the phone number, selecting a contact from your Phonebook list, or using the Call History Log of received/dialed/missed calls.
Integrated Microphone (optional External Mic): The Clarion NZ503 features an integrated front-panel microphone to carry on your side of a conversation during a Bluetooth phone call. You can adjust the microphone gain (+/-5) for each paired mobile phone device. The Clarion RCB-204 (sold separately) is an external microphone which can be connected to Clarion NZ503. The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of the head unit. The microphone features an attached 13.25' cord terminated by a right-angle male 3.5mm connector which plugs into the microphone input on the rear-chassis of your compatible Clarion head unit. The microphone also features an integrated sun-visor clip for mounting the external microphone in your vehicle. The integrated bracket allows the microphone to swivel left-to-right and rotate up-or-down.
Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Metadata Display): The Clarion NZ503 also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The NZ503 will be able to control basic playback functions of your Bluetooth device's stored music; such as Play/Pause, Skip Next/Previous, Fast Forward/Rewind and Random/Repeat. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title. The NZ503 also supports audio streaming of music apps downloaded on your smartphone with metadata display and limited control. Advanced music control of your music apps will still need be done via your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.
AM/FM Tuner: The Clarion NZ503 is equipped with a built-in AM/FM tuner. The NZ503 offers Seek, Manual, and Preset tuning. The NZ503's built-in AM/FM tuner features 3 FM bands and 1 AM band. You can store up to 6 presets in each bands, allowing you to store 24 FM and 12 AM preset stations. You can manually store your favorite presets or have the NZ503 automatically store the strongest stations for you. The Preset Scan function receives the stations stored in the units' preset memory in order. The unit scans each station for 10 seconds sequentially. This function is useful when searching for the desired station in memory. You can also store one radio station in Instant Station Recall (ISR) memory and recall it from any mode (except Power Off). Once the ISR station has been recalled, you cannot tune to another station without first disengaging the ISR function (you can, however, switch to another source). When Local seeking is turned "On", only those radio stations with strong radio signal can be received.
Pandora App: The Pandora App (free) lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Clarion NZ503 using your connected Apple iPhone, via the USB/Dock cable supplied with your iPhone. The Clarion NZ503 provides control over the Pandora music service and displays Artist, Album, and Song information; as well as Album Art. You can select Pandora stations from your station list and sort them by date or alphabetically (A-Z). Or, you can create a new station from the current playing artist or song. You can also skip song tracks within a station. You can even give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down. To access Pandora you must have an Apple iPhone (iOS3 or later) with the latest version of the Pandora application from Apple's iTunes App Store. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account.
Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada and only available in the United States.

Electronic Skip Protection: The Clarion NZ503provides electronic skip protection for your CD-Audio discs (10-seconds), as well as your discs containing MP3 (45-seconds) and WMA (90-seconds) audio files.
Playback Operations: The Clarion NZ503 offers the following playback & search functions for disc and USB.
Switching Angles: On DVD disc in which video images have been recorded in two or more angle, you can switch among the angles during playback.
Parental Lock: You can set and change the level of parental lock. This function allows cutting scenes that are unfavorable for children or replacing them automatically with other scenes prepared in advance. There are 5 levels of parental lock that are protected by a custom user 4-digit password.
Off Eject w/ Auto Reload: You can eject a disc with the unit off. You cannot insert a disc with the unit off. If a disc is left in the ejected position for 15 seconds, the disc is automatically reloaded.
Mounting Angle: For proper disc playback, you must install the unit within 30-degrees of horizontal.
iPod/iPhone Connectivity: The Clarion NZ503 navigation-multimedia head unit supports both audio/video playback from a compatible iPod or iPhone.
Note: If you have a newer iPod, iPhone, or iPod with Lightning connector; use the Lighting-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect to the head unit. These Apple devices only support audio playback (no video output).
iPod Control: You can choose to control the iPod/iPhone from the head unit's touchscreen or from your iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen.
Note: Access to your iPhone's downloaded applications will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet.
Information Display: The Clarion NZ503 will display your iPod/iPhone's stored music and music app information (such as Track number, Elapsed playing time, Song title, Artist name, and Album Art) when in Head Unit mode. The NZ503 will also display song/artist information and Album Art from the Pandora App. It will not display metadata info when in Simple Control mode.
iPod Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. This unit does not charge the iPad. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.
iPod/iPhone Compatibility Chart: The Clarion NZ503 is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and supports the following iPod/iPhone model features (as of 9/21/2014):
|iPod/iPhone||Generation||Tested Version||Media Type||Control Type||Display Type||Bluetooth||Charge|
|Audio||Video||Head Unit||Simple Control||Pandora App||Song/Artist Text||Track Info||Album Art||Phone||Audio|
- *Requires the use of the Lighting-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect to the head unit. These Apple devices only support audio playback (no video output).
- Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.
24-bit D/A Converter: The unit's 24-bit D/A converter re-quantizes the 16-bit audio signals from CDs and DVDs as 24-bit data while maintaining the low distortion and high linearity of a 1-bit D/A converter. This allows an expanded dynamic range and clearer reproduction of subtle nuances, for a richer sound when viewing DVDs or listening to CDs.
MOSFET Amplifier: The Clarion NZ503 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.
CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the NZ503 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the NZ503 are as follows:
6ch/4V RCA Output: The Clarion NZ503 features 6ch/4V RCA line level outputs (Front/Rear/Sub). The non-fading subwoofer preamp output features an independent level control (0-14) and phase adjustment (normal/reverse). You can turn the NZ503's built-in amplifier off to improve the quality of the sound from the head unit's preamp outputs.
Built-in Crossovers: The Clarion NZ503 is equipped with built-in low-pass and high-pass crossovers.
BeatEQ: BeatEQ lets you tune the sound to your liking, depending on the category of music, for a more fulfilling listening experience. The Clarion CD receiver provides 4 preset EQ curves (Bass Boost, Impact, Excite, Off) and 1 custom EQ curve. Bass Boost emphasizes the bass portion of your music; Impact emphasizes the bass & treble portions of your music; Excite emphasizes bass, midrange & treble portions of your music; while Flat sets the bass, midrange, & treble to 0. The Custom EQ lets you freely customize the frequency, Q-factor, and level of the bass, midrange, & treble.
|BeatEQ (Custom Mode)||Frequency||Q-Factor||Level|
|Bass||50Hz, 100Hz, 200Hz||0.7, 1, 1.4, 2.0||-7 to + 7 dB|
|Midrange||500Hz, 1kHz, 2kHz|
|Treble||5kHz, 10kHz, 15kHz|
Note: BeatEQ settings are applied to all sources.
Magna Bass EX (Extend): The Magna Bass Extend feature does not adjust the low frequencies like the normal sound adjustment function, but emphasizes the deep bass frequencies to provide you with a dynamic sound. This circuit boosts bass at an ultra-low frequency of about 50Hz, creating a rich, deep, defined bass rather than the muddy, booming bass of a standard loudness control. What is more, boost levels are dependent on the system volume, resulting in balanced system response and dynamic bass reproduction.
Dual AV Inputs: The Clarion NZ503 is equipped with AV input terminals on the front and rear of the unit to enable enjoyment of content from an external connected source. The rear composite video/stereo RCA inputs are ideal for permanent installations, while the front AV mini-jack (3.5mm) input will come in handy for quick connection of a portable audio/visual source.
Audio/Video Output (with Dual Zone): The NZ503 features a rear-panel composite video/stereo RCA audio output that allows you to connect an external display and headphone system in the rear of your vehicle. You can playback audio/video content from a Disc, iPod/iPhone, or AV 1/2 Input on a rear-seat monitor system; while viewing a different audio/video source on the navigation-multimedia head unit.
Camera Input: The Camera Input consists of a Composite video RCA jack for connecting an optional rear-view back-up camera. This RCA input enables you to connect a rear-view camera to display the area behind your vehicle. The increased view encourages and facilitates safer driving. When an optional rearview camera is connected to this unit, the rear view image is displayed on the screen when your vehicle is placed in reverse gear (purple/white wire of harness must be connected to reverse light wire of vehicle). Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.7 seconds. Audio from your music source will continue playing, while the back-up camera is displayed.
Wireless Remote Control: In addition to the unit's touchscreen and hard-key controls, the NZ503 comes supplied with an IR remote control for wireless operation of the navigation-multimedia receiver and your connected devices (no Bluetooth Phone functionality). The remote control operates off of a single CR2025 Lithium-cell 3V battery (included).
Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

My son has one. [ Janet Sep 01, 2017 ]
Have 5 vehicles with after market audio installs. I was trying to diversify the sound system brand from vehicle to vehicle. One of my requirements is the brand must offer "everything" to have a complete audio system from head unit, EQ, amps, speakers etc., Clarion was one of the few audio companies I haven't used before and this is in a older 70's vehicle with a single din. I wanted a single DIN Nav. So, truly by default it left Clarion and this unit. So far so good. [ Isaac Jul 04, 2017 ]

Awesome car stereo had old pioneer that died god rest its sole figure time for a upgrade and wow is all I can say I have been hardcore pioneer for many many years because they have allot of audio adjustments but my friend recommend clarion so I gave it a shot very impressed just wish there was more controls for android [ JOSHUA W Jan 12, 2017 ]
Liked it for my bmw and low price [ chuck Jun 07, 2016 ]
It fits my vehicle and I like the features of the retractible screen and it being touch screen, as well as it having nav and satellite radio compatible. [ Robert May 29, 2016 ]
I haven't attempted this but what I can share is as a video screen as with any other video screen input it can replicate Garmin as a payback possibly. It is a touch screen too. Caution: No technical verification though; just speaking from various set ups I have seen. This may add value to your research. The navigation function on this unit is more than adequate in its Nav functions and Nav interfaces. Wish I knew more about your audio objectives but IMOP if your seeking this to make a engineer change to Garmin as the map carrier there a far more practical options. I have had no less than 5 aftermarket Navs, and I like this one alot. Just concerned with it's durability. [ Isaac Oct 12, 2017 ]
Thanks for your question. This model provides map coverage of the United States (all 50 states), Canada, and Puerto Rico. There is an option to add additional maps. Check out the link below, for this receiver it shows the Middle East maps are an additional $179.95 at present time. Hope this helps. https://clarion.naviextras.com/shop/portal/newCatalog?area=19&selectedTab=3 [ Kenny Sep 01, 2017 ] Staff
Love the product but had the same question. It is especially frustrating when it is not up to date with current speed limits. Would love to know the answer [ LINDA Aug 28, 2017 ]
Thanks for your question. There is no wired mic with the receiver it actually has an integrated front-panel microphone. Hope this helps. [ Kenny Feb 18, 2017 ] Staff
I think you just need to add the xm receiver I don't think you need another antenna. [ JIM E Feb 06, 2017 ]

Yes. Please view accessory list for more attachments to use the USB. There is the standard connection in front as well for listening devices. [ Isaac Jan 30, 2017 ]
Not that I know of. I just leave it up. It's safer that way anyway because if the vehicle is in Park the screen runs into the gear shift lever when (the screen) is opening or closing. That's for a 2002 Dodge Ram Van. [ Robert Jul 19, 2016 ]
Hi , So far I need to push close if I want it to close . Hope this helps . I like it closed so people can't see the Wonderfull Unit . It looks somewhat plain when its closed and is better for security [ GUY Jul 19, 2016 ]

I don't own this anymore.. (sold car w/ unit in Oct) but if memory doesn't fail me.. there is a bass + /- as well as a "mega" bass option and personal eq options.. [ NEIL Apr 24, 2015 ]
I t is about flush but screen has a angle tilt function [ CHRIS Apr 13, 2015 ]
The unit protrudes out at least 3/4 of an inch so there's room, plus it doesn't extend straight up but at a slight angle forward which gives you even more room. After that if you want it straight up you just push it up. [ TERRY Apr 11, 2015 ]
You can adjust the angle, so you can have the screen 90 degrees to the faceplate. If you are recessed an inch you would have to tilt it forward so I don't know how you will see the screen unless it is mounted above you. [ ROBERT Apr 10, 2015 ]
Have not install yet . Car in bodyshop ! Sorry. [ JAMES Apr 10, 2015 ]
Installed one of these in a complete frame up restification for a good friend. Worked fine at first, then would not always power up the powered sub. After my friend took it home, it pretty much wouldn't do anything. Crutchfield has been no help, and I would avoid them, as well as this unit. [ Gerald Dec 09, 2014 ]
The navigation is fine, but since I started using Waze, I don't use any other nav systems. I bought the clarion a year ago because it is a complete system. I have not been able to get the video to work. The audio and the phone integration are great. In my book Waze made every other gps nav system obsolete. [ MARK E Dec 07, 2014 ]
it has worked well for me. [ CHRIS Dec 07, 2014 ]
Not sure but it is Samsung galaxy 5 compatible soit is pprobably IPhone 6 [ JAMES Nov 18, 2014 ]
I have a Android, and it works fine. I have never tried an I Phone with this stereo. [ JOHN Nov 18, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Thank you very much for your email and for your interest in shopping with Crutchfield. Regarding your inquiry, with the correct dash kit, wiring harness, etc. the Clarion NZ503 can certainly be installed in a 2004 Grand Cherokee with Infinity sound. However I do have some bad news on a couple of fronts. The first is that, unfortunately, we do not offer international shipping. We are only able to ship within the US and to US territories. But if you have a friend, relative or forwarder here in the US, we might be able to get an order to you that way. The second issue is that the GPS map data installed in the version of the NZ503 we sell is for the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Also the DVD player in the unit is designed for use with Region 1 (North American) issued DVD movies. Those issues won't matter if you're planning a move to North America, but may not be very helpful to you in Australia. Let us know if you have a permanent US shipping address and we will gladly send you detailed instructions how to order and the possible payment options available to you. If the product is intended for use outside the US, please note: warranties for the products which we sell are not valid outside the US, and the shipping cost for returns and exchanges from outside the US would be the sole responsibility of the consumer. For more information, please visit: http://www.crutchfield.com/app/international/ If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. There is a micro SD in the side of the flip screen that can be removed. The clarion website is where you update it. [ AUGUST S Aug 18, 2014 ]
If not, it looks like, from what I've been reading, a store bought microSD can be used. You'll have to create an account with naviextras .com, it is free. Once signed in, click on the Maps and more, on the left side and click for free updates. You will have to download a free program. The Naviextra Toolbox is the one that is needed. Plug your microSD card into computer and the toolbox program should find it. Download the updates on the microSD card and take it to the NZ503 and on the left side corner is a slot for the card. I have not tested any of this out myself, but that's how it's done according to my research. [ Chris Aug 18, 2014 ]
Did Clarion pack a microSD card with your NZ503? [ Chris Aug 18, 2014 ]
Update from Canadian site seems to fix all issues. Like previous poster said....the U.S. Clarion website listed update is NOT the latest firmware and will not fix all issues. [ JULIAN Jun 23, 2014 ]
Hi, Yes, I also have encountered the same issue with an iphone 5 when connecting with BT audio. Music plays just through phone only, but info still shows on main head unit screen and controls for volume track etc. all still work from the Clarion unit ?? It did not happen at first, but after a few weeks. have discovered that if you go to the settings screen on the NZ503 and turn Bluetooth to "OFF" then back to on again....music then plays back through the speakers and not the phone ! I guess there is a BT glitch with this unit ?..did you contact Clarion ? [ JULIAN Jun 03, 2014 ]
Mine was also installed on the diver side corner on dash (2009 Dodge Ram). [ Chris Aug 18, 2014 ]
We had it installed by a professional installer last year in my wife's Mercedes SLK the gps antenna was routed under dash and placed in front corner of the dashboard below the window. So I cannot comment on ease of installation but all and all the radio works fine. Sometimes you do lose the gps signal in bad areas and I believe that is because it is an inside installation but we also have the Sirius radio antenna mounted in the dash corner and that works fine. Less problems than mounting wires on the outside. Good Luck [ JAMES W May 04, 2014 ]

I installed the unit into a Dodge Viper, but looking at photos of the Del Sol, I don't think the Honda enclosure door would close over the NZ503. The touchscreen will restrict access to the HVAC controls. [ KENNETH C Apr 08, 2014 ]

Well..... I was having an issue with the Iphone5 Bluetooth STREAMING MUSIC TO my factory unit - it worked for a while but just quit doing it one day (I tried everything dealing with the phone settings). I bought this unit wanting a NAV system for my single DIN BMW and hoped it would solve the problem. NOPE, I have deduced from some googlin, being tech savy and just spending a lot of time trying to make it work.. APPLE did something that fails to allow either my Iphone5 OR my 5s (both with the newest OS) to bluetooth stream music to my unit. The head unit is FINE it is an APPLE issue. I use Spotify A LOT and it will NOT work unless plugged in. The telephone features and functions for the 5 all work well with B.T. and without fail, I simply use the standard apple usb cord plugged into the "ipod" jack from the rear that I have routed /extended to a hidden spot in my console using "PAC USB Extension Cable", I also purchased the Axxess ASWC-1 steering wheel control which works well. I plug in phone throw in console and all functions of my phone work perfectly and I use the steergin wheel controls and or the touch screen to do EVERYTHING I want to do - watch videos, play music answer calls etc etc. This is a GREAT unit and I am VERY happy with it, GPS works great etc etc.. A few pointers if you buy it - save yourself A LOT if time this install took my about 15 hours.. of fighting wires.. THERE are A LOT of them to fit in a really small hole - it aint happening!.. my biggest problem was the steering wheel control box and the inline fuse for the head unit took up toooo much space for everything to fit. I cut both, added about 4 feet of wire and ran the wire behind the glove box and hid the two "boxes" behind my glove box and ran the end of the leads back to the main unit. problem solved. Looks clean and works great and I get a lot of compliments on it. let me know if you need to know anything else. [ NEIL Feb 20, 2014 ]
My phone and music work with it. I have IPhone 5. Model MD654LL/A White 32GB. I guess that's 5 S? Got that from my settings in IPhone under general. Hope this helps, Mike [ MICHAEL Feb 19, 2014 ]

Sorry but video viewing is one of the only features which I have not used or tested. But from a functional integrity point of view, this unit is fantastic. Only drawback so far would be power. Purchase an amp to drive this unit. Power within the unit is just adequate. [ LESLIE W Dec 06, 2013 ]
