Movies and more
You can enjoy watching DVDs up front while you're parked, or hook up a video screen in the back so the kids can watch movies as you drive. Plug your iPod® or iPhone® into the rear USB input — you'll get touchscreen control over your tunes, and your iPod will stay charged as you drive. You can add an adapter to view video content from your iPhone or iPod, and you'll also find an audio/video input for video games or other sources.

Built-in hands-free calling, plus navigation-ready
A good captain is always concerned with the safety of the crew. With built-in Bluetooth®, you'll talk hands-free with your compatible phone. When a call comes in, you can tap the screen to answer the call, then you'll hear your caller over the speakers. And you can even stream tunes if your device supports it.

Your options don't end there. You can connect an optional SIRIUS satellite radio tuner directly to the VX401 (no adapter needed) to get the nearly endless variety of entertainment available. Hook up Clarion's HD Radio™ tuner for awesome digital AM/FM sound quality.

Good news if you crave great sound
The VX401 plays your store-bought and recordable CDs and DVDs, including discs you've loaded with MP3 and WMA files. A powerful internal amp gives your music plenty of punch, while a premium digital-to-analog converter ensures you'll hear all the musical details. Three sets of preamp outputs let you add amps and subs to the mix, and the subwoofer volume control lets you dial in just the right amount of bass. Clarion includes a handy remote for on-the-fly changes.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Clarion stereo. great stereo easy to use but maybe could use a search bar or something for the ipod. could be just a software update maybe?

Pros: easy install everything is clearly labeled and the manuel makes it all dummy proof.

Cons: alot of rca cables made putting this unit into the dash kind of a pain and the usb cable was a little long for my needs but a zip tie took care of that. and the eq is not as good as i had expected

Ok the touch screen is tough to get responce and the color of the screen is far from vivid. I know this is a cheaper dvd player but I was able to use it for about 1 month before the remote stopped working and after 1.5 yrs the screen froze up and wont show any menus. I called clarion probley 10 times to try and get it repaired and they never call anyone back. So I will never but anything Clarion EVER in my life, but your all welcome to take your chances

Pros: there are none but maybe price

I ordered this radio because I needed a radio that would allow me to keep my lifetime subscription to Sirius radio but after installing it, I hated it. The sound was poor, and when I would try to find songs on my i-pod, it took FOREVER to scroll through all the screens to find an artist then it would not let me choose an individual album so if I had 10 albums form a specific artist, I would have to scroll through hundreds of songs to find what I wanted. It was a major road hazard for sure. Fortunately, Crutchfield treated me right and allowed me to return it and get a better radio. I give Cruthfield an A and Clarion an F

    Pros: It sounds average

Cons: cumbersome controls, difficult to use.

It looks great installed! It was a birthday gift for my wife who loves that she can sync her cellphone to it and drive legally now. She can also connect her MP3 player to it and listen to whatever she wants whenever she wants.

    Pros: Great head unit.

Cons: Brake light connection for DVD player

    Good for the Money

GeneL from Merritt Island, FL on 1/7/2013

Overall satisfied. Easy to install. Installed in a 2001 Toyota Sequoia with JBL Amplified System. Sound is fantastic. Only issue was the second antenna with amplifier in the car. With out the antenna amplifier, the reception is not as good as the factory cd player/radio. Still working on a resolution. Make sure to get the factory connector makes it super easy for install, except the back up camera was a little challenging but works great. And you can't beat the price for the funtionality of the unit.

    Pros: Easy to Install

Cons: Brake light connection for DVD player

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice deck. Great sound and picture. I put it into our 05 F-150. When we bought the truck, it already had headrest screens, but the factory deck had been put back in. This deck was a fairly easy install and works great. The only problem we had was the plastic install kit broke within a couple months. The whole deck fell into the dash going down the road. I just went to Walmart and picked up a new install kit and re-installed. It seems to be a little thicker plastic than the original one I had. Now we're good to go!

Pros: Works great and easy install.

Cons: Plastic install kit is a little weak or at least mine was.

    Good Radio

Two wire are problems. DVD must be tied to emergency switch. and back up camera has to be tied to reverse switch.

    Pros: Full of features

Cons: Had to diassemble dash, glove box remove outside stop light for Sirus. never got backup camera wired.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this to replace the stock unit n my "new" 07 trailblazer. Installation was fairly easy, and it looked great. That's about all the good I can say about it. From the beginning, like tohers have stated, the volume would often blast m out after haging upa Bluetooth phone call. It also would sometimes lock up my phone, not allowing me to cacel a call, from the radio or the phone. This past weekend, it has locked up completely. Nothing works, except the navigation. I assume this is because the nav unit is a seperate unit from the head unit. Andthe navigation is a bit of a joke. It is difficult to program (relatively speaking, anyway) and I frankl find my less expensive TomTom does a better job. I haven't even finished paying for this new upgrade, and I am already having to look at a repair/replacement. I wish I didn't have the Clarion nav unit, because I would look for antoher brand. But I have too much invested now to switch.

    Pros: Looks good, fits well.

    Cons: Very, very unreliable.

    Junk, don't buy!

coreyleepc from Chico, CA on 7/25/2012

I bought this radio for the ease of use, the fact that it had bluetooth, and it was compatable with Sirius. I did not buy from Crutchfield, but bought the adapters and satelite receiver from them. All of the components I purchased from Crutchfield worked flawlessly, and they were great to work with! I highly recommend Crutchfield to anyone. The Clarion had several issues. First of all, there was a short in the left front speaker that would not go away after checking all wiring and replacing the harness (thanks Crutchfield! Secondly, as a previous review stated, after hanging up the blue tooth, the volume would blast me out at the max of 40. I have two amplifiers hooked up with upgraded speakers, and trust me...40 is LOUD! Lastly, the steering wheel volume control is not working with the Clarion. I replaced the adapter to see if that would fix the problem, but no change. Crutchfield was great throughout the headaches I have had with this unit, even though I did not purchase the unit from them. I will be buying my new unit through them once I get reimbursed from the folks I got the Clarion through.

Pros: Ease of use, good looking

Cons: Ok sound, only base and treble for controls, bluetooth problems, and a short in the radio.

This headin it is a good buy if your on a budget and u don't mind a few kinks. Install was easy and sound quality is good but it picks up signals from my phone at random and pauses my music and if ur the type of person like me and u have a lot of music there is no quick way to song search ... Songs are listed in alphabetical order and u have to tap the down arrow everytime u want to see another 8 songs imagine how long it takes you to get to the n's out of over 5000 songs. Overall I just wasn't happy with this purchase so I'm upgrading to the pioneer 4400

Overall I was pretty happy about this unit until it would not work if the inside of my vehicle would get hot. I live in South Dakota, not Arizona so any unit should be able to handle the heat.

Pros: Easy to use Sound quality is ok

Cons: Stops working on warm days

Unreliable. Not a good value for the $$$

graybeam from Portland, OR on 6/15/2012

I will never buy another Clarion deck after owning this unit. Sure the deck is a grand improvement on a stock deck, but for the price I'd rather own a high-end non-dvd deck (DVD being novelty in a sedan). This is the bargain barrel DVD touchscreen deck and it is not worth your time or money. The interface sucks and it is unreliable. Sound quality is bad after you get through the initial "wow". Lack of customer service is appalling. There is no replacement, only repair. Hardly worth not having a stereo for a month when the problem is intermittent and they may just send it back having done nothing to it.

Pros: Sounds better than a stock deck. Built-in Bluetooth mic works well for phone calls. You can watch movies on it when it lets you. Inexpensive for a DVD touch deck. Video quality is decent. Remote control is novelty.

Cons: - POOR AUDIO QUALITY (no mids hardly at all) - MANY ANNOYANCES (from the inputs to the screen functionality) - UNRELIABLE (failing before even a year of standard use) - POORLY CONSTRUCTED (between clicking motors and failing adhesives) - NO CUSTOMER SERVICE (cannot speak to a human, cannot speak to an employee of Clarion)

    Nice product for the money

Instantly made my sound system better and the video quality is nice for the money. The bluetooth feature is great and helps me with my driving and talking issue. Overall I am very happy with this unit. It doesnt have all the flashy screen effects I have had with my alpine or excelon units in the past and honestly I am happier without them

Pros: Cheap and has lots of features

This is a nice deck for a beginner. It is very easy to use and set up. Has good sound quality. Very easy to upgrade if you want to. Built in Bluetooth works very well with the phone and OK with music I am very happy so far.

Pros: easy setup, up gradable, great value!!

Cons: Bluetooth AD2P can be a bit quirky some times (HTC Rezound)

Great Potential, but a few major bugs

    2005 Honda Pilot
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

On paper, this unit was exactly what I was looking for - satellite radio, bluetooth phone/audio streaming capabilities, and a nice-looking touchscreen. For the most part, this unit functioned as described, but I encountered one major issue that caused me to return this unit. When ending a phone call using bluetooth and resuming playing the radio, this unit will ocasionally forget to switch volume back to the radio source volume level and will blast the radio at the bluetooth volume level (I listen to the radio at a 13-15 volume, bluetooth is around 35). The volume will lock up, forcing me to power down and reboot the radio to restore the volume to normal. I returned one of these units for a replacement - Crutchfield was great in the return process and very helpful. After having the same issue above with the second radio, I called Clarion customer support. They were aware of the issue, but didn't intend to fix it in any way. Their answer to the problem was that the wiring harness was bad - I should rewire the radio to connect directly to the battery and bypass the wiring harness. Crutchfield tech support agreed with me that this was a pretty tough to believe answer. I'll be returning this radio, and purchasing a similar product from a competitor. I wish this unit worked out, but the annoyance wasn't worth it. Crutchfield has been great to work with throughout the process, and I'll definitely be buying my replacement through them.

Pros: Great set of features for a reasonable price. Bluetooth audio was clear when using an external mic.

Cons: Major issue with volume when switching from bluetooth audio source after call. See description above. Internal bluetooth mic was unusable, required the external mic for others to hear/understand me during calls.

    Great unit

I got this unit for my 2008 Jeep Commander. It is a definite upgrade from the stock head unit. The sound and picture are fantastic. I was a little nervous from some of the reviews I've read but I wasn't expecting $1000 quality in this unit. It does everything I need it to do with no problems.

Pros: Clear picture, easy to use interface, and great sound quality.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I own a 08 wrangler and this has been the best thing I have put in. I don't see how anyone has had a problem with this unit. Everything works perfect. I already owned the xm add on and after installing it It works every time I turn the car on and it even works when it's not on Sirius when first turned on. Over all this radio is well worth the money and in my opinion better than some more expensive units. The Bluetooth is freaking awesome even when you sync the contacts from your phone It displays the incoming callers ID. So as I said earlier this unit is freaking awesome in all aspects.

    Pros: The whole radio

    Cons: Nothing

    Regret Purchase

Mike from Janesville, WI on 4/11/2012

I purchased this product because of a multitude of problems with the Clarion CZ501 that lasted less than 6 months. I like that Clarion plugs directly into Sirius receivers thus the initial purchase of Clarion. When the 501 failed I purchased the VX401 as most reviews were good. My experience is that the sound is not great and it has very limited adjust-ability. After just under 2 months of being installed the monitor looks like the brightness has been turned up the the max even though it is set to two. Now I have to place yet another call to Crutchfield customer service, which has been great by the way, to get this resolved. I've installed more that 10 recievers and component systems throughout my life and never had issues like this. I have to believe that Clarion is producing an inferior product. Time to buck up and spend the money on the Sirius adapters for the other radios.

Pros: Easy to install...Connects directly to Sirius receivers

Cons: Monitor failing after 2 months of use..sound adjust-ability settings are limited

This unit gets all 5's from me, It was a GREAT additon to our mini van. The unit works as advertised we added the Sirius module and I love it the ease of having everthing all in one is great. I no longer have to be upset at the wife for wires strung all over the van. We also got the Ipod/Iphone cable to intergrate her Iphone 4s and I could not be happier! I love being able to access her music right from the screen on the unit (and again it cut down on wires as it links the phone and charges it too). We use the bluetooth feature on the unit and it works great the built in microphone on the unit works great and the sound quailty is nice when on the phone, once again importing her phone book to the unit allows ease of use as yo controle every thing from the vx401's tuch screen. We dont have remote moniters to the back installed yet but are planning on it, we are also adding the backup camera. It was easy to install once you get over the overwhelming bunch of wires in you lap. but it is all marked and went in very easy. It looks great in our van and I am planing on another for my next truck! Buy it you wont be disapointed!

Pros: Great price with all the features I wanted and more! Sounds Great.

Great unit. Wish the interface was a little bit easier to use and customizable. Installed this unit in my 2001 Chevy Suburban. I used a 2003 silverado pick up radio bucket to house the double din kit. This unit and the NP400 was easy to install in my SUV. My stereo speakers seems to sound better since I installed this unit and gps navigation. I have my Pandora and Iheart streaming to the head unit.. Didn't want to pay extra for the Sirius or XM subscription. My phonebook doesn't seem to stay in the unit's memory once its synced. Clarion tech support was very responsive.. Don't get the NP400 with this unit, instead buy the NP401.. NP401 has map updates available, the NP400 doesnt have it. I verified this through who provides map updates. I installed a back up camera and it works pretty good.

Pros: Great Unit !! Love the USB input. Love the Pandora and IHeart streaming capability. I use an Iphone 4S to stream the music. Love the flash drive capability to play all my MP3 music. Love the back up camera feature. I can play my dvd movies to the top monitor.

Cons: Phone book not being stored in the stereo memory.. USB input should have a surface mount type. support.. NO MAP UPDATES for NP400.

I'll start by saying this unit is great for the price! Easy to instal. It was put into a 2010 nissan frontier king cab. Thanks to the great crutchfield freebies, installation was very simple. Adding on sirius radio was easy also. Only needing a 50$ add-on rather than the 100+$most other units require. I also added backup camera. Make sure you power your camera with the acc wire on the headunit.

Pros: Simple to use.bluetooth sounds great/simple audio transfer

Cons: So many wires...but i guess that is a good thing(lots of options)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The reason I bought this unit was for the bluetooth music streaming and hands free calling and for the back up camera. If your lisening to music from your phone via bluetooth you have to be on the bluetooth music screen if you push the back button the unit will revert to the radio. I don't have a back up camera hooked up yet so I can't comment on that. If I had the chance to do it all over again I would buy a different unit. I hope that when I get the camera hooked up when I back up it will continue to play the music from my phone. From my experience it doesn't pick up FM radio stations anyway. Before I bought this unit I read a lot of reviews but the problems that other people had with certian functions was nothing I was worried about nobody said anything about the bluetooth. Hands Free Calling. When I call people they complain that it makes a screeching sound and it's very loud so I have to turn off bluetooth from my phone. Maybe I need to get an external Mic. But it should work without one cause thats what they advertise. I hope this Review Helps, This is my first review ever with any thing I've bought. I've never had an indash unit before but I hope other units are more function friendly.

Pros: Price, Harness you need to install.

Cons: Bluetooth Hands Free Calling, Bluetooth Personality

    Nice, but not perfect

ToddS from Destin, FL on 1/21/2012

I bought this unit for my 2007 GMC Sierra Classic Crew Cab. Despite what the Crutchfield site says, the unit fit WITHOUT any modifications to my dash (cutting dash support). That was a very pleasant surprise. Wired up the unit and it sounds great. However, this unit DOES NOT work properly with my iPhone 4S. Using the recommended cable (CCA-748) does not allow me to view videos from my phone on the indash screen. After a fruitless conversation with a Crutchfield rep, I researched the Clarion site and found that Clarion offers a different cable for 2012 (CCA-750) that offers full functionality with the VX401. The ability to view iPhone videos on the Clarion indash was the main reason I bought this unit, so I'll be ordering this cable as soon as Crutchfield carries it. As far as playing DVDs, the unit provides so-so performance. Fullscreen videos are stretched to fill the screen, and the settings (4x3, 16x9) offered by the unit make no difference in playback. Not a dealbreaker since the majority of my videos are widescreen, but still an annoyance. I used the three pair of preamp outs to connect to my two full range amps, as well as my sub amp. They work exactly as expected with no surprises. Overall, a nice unit, but if I had it to do again, I would probably try a different brand/model.

Crutchfield response on 2/7/2012 We contacted Clarion, and they confirmed that the CCA-748 and CCA-750 have the exact same functionality, so the cable you bought should be 100% compatible with the iPhone 4S. Before you buy another cable, please call us again and give our tech support another try. Tell the specialist who answers your call what kinds of videos you are trying to watch. If the screen says Audio Only when you try to play a video, then there's an issue with the safety wire that ties into your parking brake. The VX401 will not play video when the parking brake is disengaged. Another possibility is that you mixed up the VX401's video input and output jacks when making the connections. Since they're both yellow, that's an easy mistake to make.

    Has issues but has potential

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I would suggest that you take a look at this unit in a store before deciding whether to purchase or not. This head deck may be perfect for some and horrible for others. Its only worth a 2 or 3 star rating in my book. If Clarion decides to improve this unit... I could see it as a 4 or 5 star. Built in Nav, change screen colors and layout, and for goodness sake, change the GUI.

Pros: Ability to add Navigation, Iphone controls, built in bluetooth. Over all, this head deck is very expandable. Pretty easy to install in my 2006 Altima.

Cons: The interface is very ugly and confusing. Just not what I was expecting at all. The add on Navigation is just pathetic.

    VX401 and iPhone

    Thudpucker from GA on 12/23/2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Instead of echoing comments of others, most of which I agree with, I will address iPhone and Steering Wheel interfaces. The iPhone interfaces works well with this unit via Bluetooth. The phone operations over Bluetooth are clear and I have not received any negative comments about the built in mic on the VX401, I do have the mic gain set to 6. The iPhone IPOD functions ok over Bluetooth but to get the full audio range and controls of the VX401 you need to connect a USB/Dock-connector/charger cable to the USB plug on the radio. Since the iPhone defaults to send audio over Bluetooth you need to remember to switch from VX401 (Bluetooth audio) to Dock Connector audio via the button that appears at the bottom of the IPOD/Music screen on the iPhone when the iPhone is dual connected via USB cable (Music/Video) and Bluetooth (Phone operations). I used the PAC SWI-JACK to integrate the steering wheel control on a Toyota Sienna. The only negative is it requires a resistor to be connected (supplied in the kit)for my application. It does the job but the AXXESS ASWC may be easier to wire up. Used a handful of wire Tap-in, butt style and removable Quick Splice connectors with male disconnect to attach everything, so I would not have to cut any wires and be able to easily back-out the installation at a later date. Overall a good value and took less than 4 hours to get everything wired and working.

    A Nice Upgrade

Mikki from Nashville, TN on 12/5/2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this unit in my Nissan Pathfinder. Based on my past experience with them, I really wanted a Kenwood. However, after sharing my lists of "must haves" the Crutchfield folks (all three of them) recommended the Clarion. The installation was very EASY!!! As usual, the free stuff Crutchfield sends with their units makes install a breeze!! I also purchased the trim removal tool, and some crimp connectors. Yes, they came in handy!! This unit sounds great!! I had a factory Bose, which I really enjoyed (believe me had it not died, it would still be in my truck). The Clarion is a great replacement/upgrade, and works well with my other Bose components. The fit is perfect!! One of my "must haves" was that the unit look OEM in my dash, and that it does. I'm coming from a fairly basic OEM radio, and this is my FIRST touch screen. That being said, the menu functions are OK with me. The screen in crisp and clear, and the video playback is great. THE USB CONNECTION IS IN THE BACK!!! WOOO HOOO!! I CAN HIDE MY IPOD AND USB DRIVE!!....another on of my "must haves" Based on the specs and owner's manual, I knew there would be cons with the unit before I purchased it. So in all fairness, I don't guess I should include them in my review. However, just in case Clarion wants to know what their customers are saying I listed a few. That being said, I got what I expected at a great price, so 5-stars it is.

Pros: I like the: price, ease installation, fit, features, REAR USB CONNECTOR, free remote control, free Bluetooth, expandability, steering wheel control compatibility, large fonts (make it easy to read the display), prompt button response, iPod interface.

Cons: I knew what I was getting when I bought the unit, but come on Clarion, really?? Only one (blue/white) color scheme, no album art, no background image options, no RDS, only jazz and classical presets (what, no rock or hip-hop?)

    OK, but has issues

DEK from Dover, PA on 6/26/2011

I bought this unit based on past experience with Clarion, but it hasn't lived up to expectations. I got the Sirius and steering wheel controls. Sirius works fine, the steering wheel controls only work sporadically, not unusual, based on my research. Installation was a challenge, probably because of the additional accessories. My biggest disappointment are the menus, which are not intuitive. When changing within the presets on Sirius, you can't seem to do it through the top menu, but have to call up the preset list, which is dumb, although you can do it through the steering wheel controls. And the unit gets flakey at times. I get in the car after having left it on a Sirius channel, and the radio is either on the FM or AM bands. And not that I use it often, but the AM band is absolutely terrible, the worst I've ever encountered. I can barely pick up local stations. FM seems OK. All in all, I would try a Pioneer or a Kenwood, given a do-over. 8/31/11 follow-up review: After a lot of detective work, I found that my 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander has an amplified antenna, which was not provided for with the aftermarket wiring harness. After diagnosing the issue, and connecting the power to the antenna, it works fine. Don't know how many others might be impacted by this, but it's a good issue to pass on, because this made the difference of deciding to keep this unit.

    Great Bang for Your Buck

Samantha P. from Tallahassee, FL on 4/14/2011

In my search for a new radio I looked at all kinds of brands and I would ultimately run into the same problem with all of them; they either did not have enough preouts to run my speakers and amp properly or they were really expensive. Well after finding this radio I found that it had everything I needed and then some. I was disappointed that it doesn't have a knob for the volume but thought I could live with it so I went ahead and ordered it. Well I have had this unit in my car for a couple of days now. First of all the installation was very easy. This radio has everything you could ever want. The radio has great response and the picture quality on the DVD is awesome. Also, the sound quality is great. I didn't realize how bad my Blaupunkt radio sounded until I put this one in and heard how clear it was. Overall I don't think you can get a better radio for the money, especially if you are like me and need 6 preouts. Now for some of the not so great things about this radio. I am not a big fan of the way it is set up, it is kind of hard to use while driving. This makes it necessary to use the remote, which I don't like. I also wish that you could change the background, it is quite boring and not really esthetically pleasing at all. Overall I would definitely recommend this radio to anyone looking for a touchscreen unit that will do just about everything, especially if you need the extra preouts like I did.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Simply put this deck will fit all of your needs. The touch screen is responsive, .snappy and pleasing to the eye. The dvd picture quality is exceptional. I was .shocked how easy the Bluetooth pairing and music streaming linked. The .install was one of the easier units that I have done because everything was .made simple by Clarion with their wire labels and smart rear design. I enjoy .this 'do all' unit for the price. On the down side, the operating system is not .really intuitive and somewhat slow. The Sirius application really is bare bones .basic and is very limited for Sat Radio fans. I would like to see some album art .or icon graphics from the IPOD or Sat/Rad options as well. The ability to stream .Pandora and Rhapsody from my phone more than made up for the Sirius and .lack of icon issues. For the money and huge expandability options, this unit is a .solid 4 star rating on its way to a five. Give it a try.

    Fits great

Jason from Detroit, MI on 3/19/2011

I picked this up for my 96 Eagle Talon and, it went right in. It went in using stock brackets just like it would on any other stock double din car. As much of a downgrade this was from my last head unit, I needed a double din for this car. So far, out side of the lack of sound control compared to my Excelon its a good source unit. Its easy to use, sounds good, the screen is sharp, shows file info from a USB thumb drive quickly. All in all, I'm satisfied with my purchase, it updated the look of the interior, gave me the sound I wanted and the expandability I needed.

    Display Features

2-DIN Chassis: The Clarion VX401 has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double DIN" or size DD), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using your vehicle's factory radio brackets and the supplied hardware. There is also an optional custom double-DIN sleeve (0202DBKT, sold separately) available for this unit that will allow you to mount the VX401 in a custom 4" opening.

Note: As always, please consult the Crutchfield Car Selector to verify fit with your vehicle.

6.2" Touch Panel TFT Display: The Clarion VX401 has an integrated 6.2" TFT wide screen display with touch panel controls. The display provides a high-resolution video monitor for watching your DVD videos. The screen has a total pixel count of 1,152,000 pixels. The display features brightness and shape (4:3 or 16:9) adjustment. The unit's touch panel features interactive controls making menu navigation easy.

Touch Panel Controlled GUI: The GUI (Graphical User Interface) shows large icons that are highly visible and easily recognizable at a glance. And thanks to the touch panel screen, accessing each function is as intuitive as touching its icon. This very straightforward system lets the driver keep his attention on the road, and enables front seat passengers to use any desired function without the need to "learn" anything. What's more, since the vast majority of functions are controllable from the touch panel, there are only 4 physical buttons on the unit for the most basic and commonly-used functions.

Parking Brake Detection: To prevent displaying video while the vehicle is in motion, the bright green wire in the supplied harness must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. While the vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the other displays and menus.

Anti-Theft Code: You may program the unit with a 4 digit security code. Once the unit has been programmed with a security code, the code must be entered to use the unit after it has been disconnected from power.

    Audio Section

24-bit D/A Converter: The unit's 24-bit D/A converter re-quantizes the 16-bit audio signals from CDs and DVDs as 24-bit data while maintaining the low distortion and linearity of a 1-bit D/A converter. This allows an expanded dynamic range and clearer reproduction of subtle nuances, for a richer sound when viewing DVDs or listening to CDs.

MOSFET Amplifier: The Clarion VX401 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the VX401 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the VX401 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 18 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 40 watts x 4 channels (160 watts total)

Audio Settings: The Clarion VX401 offers the following audio adjustments.

    • Preset EQ: Flat, Jazz, Pop, or Classical
    • Bass and Treble: Independent and variable bass (60, 80, 100, or 200Hz) and treble (10, 12.5, 15, or 17.5kHz) control (+/- 7 dB); you can also adjust the Bass Q-Factor to 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, or 2.0.
    • Loudness: Compensates for low and high tones during low volume.

6-Channel Preamp Output: With 3 sets of RCA outputs, you are free to add external power amplifiers to create a more powerful, sophisticated audio system. The multimedia head unit is equipped with stereo front, rear and subwoofer preamp outputs for connecting the unit to an external amplifier.

Subwoofer Controls: Independent volume control is enabled for the subwoofer preamp output so you can adjust the level of bass output to your liking at any time, regardless of the output level of the other channels. The subwoofer preamp output's level can be adjusted independently from -9 to +9 dB. The VX401 also features a low pass filter for the subwoofer preamp output. You can select between 80Hz, 120Hz or 160Hz.

Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Radio Functions

AM/FM Tuner: The Clarion VX401 is equipped with a built-in AM/FM tuner. The VX401 offers Seek, Scan, Manual, and Preset tuning.

Preset Tuning: The VX401's built-in AM/FM tuner features 3 FM bands and 1 AM band. You can store up to 12 presets in each bands, allowing you to store 36 FM and 12 AM preset stations. You can manually store your favorite presets or have the VX401 automatically store the strongest stations for you.

Preset Scan: The Preset Scan receives the stations stored in the units' preset memory in order. The unit scans each station for 10 seconds sequentially. This function is useful when searching for the desired station in memory.

Local Seeking: When Local seeking is turned "On", only those radio stations with strong radio signal can be received.

HD Radio Ready: Connecting the optional Clarion THD400 HD Radio tuner (020THD400, sold separately) lets you enjoy listening to digitally broadcast radio programs with superior sound quality and text information (such as artist name and song titles or traffic news; viewable on the head unit's display). HD Radio technology, where available, offers higher quality sound than conventional analog broadcasts and receives text data. HD Radio provides FM broadcasts that are equal to CD sound quality and AM broadcasts that are as good as analog FM stereo broadcasts. HD Radio also provides a variety of data, including station name, song title, artist name, album name, etc. No subscription fees required.

Note: Right now there are about 2,000 radio stations broadcasting using digital HD Radio technology in the U.S. To find HD Radio stations in your area, visit the HD Radio website (

iTunes Tagging: The add-on HD Radio tuner (sold separately) includes iTunes Tagging capability. iTunes Tagging allows you to "tag" songs heard over HD Radio. iTunes Tagging saves the song's title and metadata to your connected iPod/iPhone (you may store up to 64 tags in the memory). When the iPod/iPhone is synced to iTunes, a playlist is generated with links to the iTunes Store where the song can be purchased and downloaded.

Note: This function can be operated with the following iPod/iPhone models - iPod nano (3rd/4th/5th/6th gen), iPod classic (80/120/160GB), iPod touch (1st/2nd/3rd/4th gen), and iPhone (2G/3G/3GS/4).

Sirius Direct: You can connect the Clarion VX401 to the SiriusConnect SC-C1 Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver (607SCC1, sold separately) without any need for a interface box and enjoy over 130 channels of music, news, talk shows, sports and traffic information with digital quality sound throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Note: A subscription to Sirius Satellite Radio is required for service.
