Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Great 5 disk Player. Thank goodness Yamaha still makes multi disk players.
Pros: Very good quality for the price!
The Yamaha CD-C600 couples the convenience of a multi-disc changer with the performance of a single-disc player. Pop in up to five of your favorite CDs for hours of non-stop serious listening or background music while entertaining guests. This versatile player handles regular CDs, plus your MP3 and WMA mix discs. And you can swap out four of the discs without interrupting playback of the fifth, so the music doesn't stop while you cue up the next few selections.
The CD-C600's sophisticated internal design includes isolated power supplies for the digital and analog sections, a high-quality digital-to-analog converter, and short signal paths that minimize the chances of interference or signal loss. The end result is richly detailed sound with engaging warmth and musicality. You can improve sound quality even further with Pure Direct mode, which turns off the front panel display and the digital audio output to eliminate sources of potential noise.
You can also connect select iPods to the CD-C600 via the front panel USB port. This lets you take advantage of the player's high-performance digital-to-analog converter — a big improvement over your portable's built-in DAC — for the best sound quality from your portable music library.

Great 5 disk Player. Thank goodness Yamaha still makes multi disk players.
Pros: Very good quality for the price!
New player works fine; and am especially pleased with Crutchfield's shipping service!
it was very easy to hook up sounds great and works well
Pros: It was very easy to hook up and it work very well and sounds great
everything sounds better. also my older cdr and cdrw are working better. easy to use. very happy with this purchase.
Pros: everything sounds much better than my old system
Cons: none so far
This is a very good unit
Pros: Very good unit with good specs. Sound is top quality.
Cons: writing on the front of the unit is to small to read. Also to tall for my stereo shelf I had to remove the four feet in order to it in the slot.
I bought this unit to replace a Sony ES 5-disc changer whose disc handling mechanism broke. Unfortunately Sony no longer makes such a changer. Having purchased Yamaha products in the past I decided to go for this one. The player works very well and sounds great, but Yamaha made a major ergonomic error. Unlike the old Sony, the disc drawer is located above the display and the manual buttons. As a result, when loading discs, the extended drawer forces the user to stoop down and look under the drawer to access the controls for selecting which disc to play first, etc.
Pros: Quality player with excellent sound.
Cons: Having the disc drawer above the display and manual controls makes the player more difficult to use.
For me, this fit the need. Replaced an older Yamaha I had that was 10 yrs old. Love the price and the random play feature.
Pros: Works like it should
The CD player does all that I want. Quality is excellent; sound is excellent.
Easy to plug in an use. Has good sound. Unit it a little deeper than I realized, so I will have to do some modifying to my shelf where I will put it. Overall, a very good buy.
Sound and operation seem pretty good. Big problem is that I had a wrong impression of Yamaha as a company. Yamaha sells the exact same chassis in two packages, this one and as CD-C600RK. CD-C600RK comes with the Rack Mounting kit. They will not sell the Rack Kit separately. If you bother to ask them why, they just clam up and won't respond to ANY further inquiries about the product. I wish I had learned how bad Yamaha is to work with before the return period with Crutchfield expired. Now, I have it kludged into my rack. While I know that Yamaha makes very good products, I'm soured on their reputation, and I won't buy from them anymore.
Pros: Looks and plays nice
Cons: Yamaha Customer Service is TerribleCrutchfield response on 4/3/2018 We appreciate the review. Kevin is right, Yamaha does have a Professional-series model with a rack-mount kit included. This CD player is designed for home use, so the chassis design is slightly different. Yamaha does not offer a rack-mount kit that fits this model. Our Customer Support team will contact Kevin to discuss.
After only a couple of weeks with the CD-C600, I am pleased. It replaced a very old cartridge type CD player that had failed. The features and performance suit me. Crutchfield was great to work with as always.
Have a complete Yamaha system with the exception of Bose speakers and have thoroughly enjoyed its performance over the years. Needed to replace the previous CD changer (25+ years old) which had already been rebuilt once and felt that updating to the new one was the right idea. Certainly glad I did. Controls are a bit different but the quality is still there and may even be better. Pleasure dealing with the people at Crutchfield. Doug
So far it has been great! After much research I bought this multiple CD unit and have been very pleased.Although CD are 'on the way out" we love the opportunity to listen to our entire collection the "old fashioned" way.The sound quality has been exceptional when combined with our Yamaha Amplifier/Receiver.The "Crutchfield Crew" has been great helping me through the hooking up process.
Just got this hooked up a couple of days ago. First impression is really good. Works great, simple does all I need it to do. I haven't used the USB input to play music from a flash drive yet, but intend to do that too. It's a great feature.
Very good... For the most part nice people to deal with... a small harmless glitch w/support on 'a busy day'
Pros: All pros, so far
Cons: No cons
It is a fine piece of equipment. Was just as described, the price was more then competitive and It was also delivered on time!! Great people to deal with.
So far, so good. Operating instructions and functioning straight forward and easy to master. Sound quality better than my previous Sony. Very happy with it.
Pros: Great sound, ease of use
Cons: None so far
Only used it for a few days over ther holidays, but everything works great!!
Fine addition for our system
I haven't had a chance to set this up yet because I'm putting a new system together! I lost my Sony system during a Tornado a few years ago and have just started to put a new system together and what better way to start than with a brand that has stood the test of generations of music lovers ! The next piece to this puzzle will be a YAMAHA receiver followed up by KLIPSHE speakers ! Sorry, I couldn't order it all at once Crutchfield but I will do a follow-up review once the system is up and running ! !
Pros: What a great Christmas "from me to me" present ! I opened the box and was totally WOWED by the quality of this unit ! I can't wait to hear it !!
Cons: Nothing yet !
Replaced old Marantz 5 disc changer. Sounds great. Putting back 2 discs in is a bit difficult as the CD tray doesn't rotate, but otherwise a good replacement
Was looking for a carousel CD player to replace a 10 year old Yamaha CDC-697 player. The CD-C600 was a logical choice. The mechanism is smother and quieter than the unite it replaced. It lights up blue, It has standard RCA jacks and there is a socket for an optical digital cable. It has a USB port and Pure Direct switching. It's a nice CD player. One very minor note - it does not indicate the number of tracks remaining on the display while a CD is playing, It does display the time remaining. If you are looking for a multi-disc player, this is one to consider.
Yamaha CD player... Yamaha is the best!
The Yamaha cd changer performs well and produces excellent sound quality for a changer.
Pros: Plays 5 cds and offers the pure direct sound quality.
Awesome replaced my old one of 30 years better than old it's is my second one this for home theater and my other for outdoor would tell anyone to buy!!!!!!!!
I have a large selection of cd's and I like loading the player and having hours of music. This unit also has usb port so I can also play from my i pod and i phone.
Pros: easy set up and operation. I especially like the usb port, I can play from other devices.
Player came promptly, hook up easily and has given many hrs of enjoyment thus far. It is a well designed unit for my use and I am completely satisfied with the Unit. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a cd disc player that handles more than one disc at a time.
Pros: easy hook up, sound is great and clear
Purchased this Yamaha CD-C600 5 disc CD player to replace my Sony 50 disc player that I purchased from Crutchfield in 1999 that finally played its last song! I narrowed the choice down to a few CD players and the Yamaha won. I am so glad that I purchased this unit. The sound is really clear and I can hear instruments that I couldn't hear before. I read that some people said that the " Random Play" did not perform well but it has done a great job of playing different songs from different discs, and I really like this feature. I have many Christmas CDs and now I can change them while one continues to play without interrupting it, so that I will have continuous music throughout the holiday season! I also like the 30 minute turn off feature where it turns itself off to standby if not used within that period of time! I connected my IPOD to it and it played well and is a nice feature. Great buy and of course Crutchfield is the best!!
Pros: Sound clarity, able to play 5 discs, can change discs while one continues to play, 30 minute cutoff feature, and USB connection
Cons: None so far
have only used item for short period, seems to be well made and functions properly.
Nice multi-disc unit . The sound is awesome!
Pros: Multi-disc , easy hook up.
Bought this player to replace mine when a CD got stuck in it. That player had a stackable tray. The player is easy to operate and didn't take long to hook up.
Pros: Easy to use and hook up
Cons: None that I know of
Purchased player to replace a Yamaha 5 disc player that still sounded great but the door wouldn't open and close and couldn't find anyone to service it :( Player sounds great and was easy to set up. The only learning curve is the remote which has a lot of little buttons middle aged eyes may find hard to see! Very pleased with the service from Crutchfield too.
Pros: Sounds great and easy set up.
Cons: Lots of little buttons on the remote.
Excellent sound quality and great controls. Easy set up.
Pros: great sound at a great price
Unsurpassed SERVICE! Arrived much sooner than expected. Enjoy convenience of multiple CD's & other options. Have not tried out other music sources yet, still trying to get comfortable with the remote - a bit challenging with all the options. HIGHLY recommend - Yamaha always exceeds expectations!
Replaced a 20+ Sony 5 disc. Sounds great and I like the ipod/memory stick play feature.
Overall good CD player for the money. Yamaha makes great products.
Pros: 5 CD's, can change while playing another.
Cons: Bit noisy when changing tracks, but not too bad overall
Great being able to use our CDs again!! The sound is WONDERFUL!!
It works just fine. That's all I asked for.
Sure there are better CD Players out there, but sometimes we just want old school throw a bunch of CD's in the player and hit play. Had a Sony CDP-CE500 but we were never that happy with it, it was loud when starting, opening, changing discs and quality was just fair. We also have an OPPO BDP-105D hooked up with analog cables if we are looking for better in his res files, SACD's, DVD Audio CD's, etc. We use Big Sur cables on this direct to a Yamaha Aventage RX-A760 and it sounds fantastic. We have over 1500 cd's still so we also wanted convenience of a multi-disc player. By the way, I even tried the optical out, to the Oppo to use it's dac, then analog to the receiver, a little cleaner for sure, louder, but not worth the hassle as again for extended periods we just want quality listening which this more than does. Pure Direct Mode while using pure direct mode on the Receiver also makes a noticeable difference also. Highly recommendation if a multi-disc player is what you are looking for.
Pros: Quiet Operation, Pure Direct Mode, Multi-disc
Cons: None for the price
I bought this to replace a 15 year old Phillips that finally died. I am extremely pleased with this product.
Much louder during loading and tray movement than my old JVC. It also takes longer to load before play starts, so there is more dead space between discs. It is a little flakey in sometimes playing a single disc and then stopping even when on 5disc mode. Sound quality appears good, but I've an older amp so I don't notice that much difference from my JVC. The JVC finally died and this did appear to be the best replacement option. I do like the sleep mode, so it turns off automatically when not in use. You definitely need the remote, though, many functions are only accessible from the remote. I have not tried the random play, but given how long it takes to switch and load new discs I don't imagine it will be that worthwhile.
Pros: Easy operation, clean look, 5 disc capacity
Cons: Long load times and noisy tray movement
I am very happy with the cd c600. It is the best sounding cd player for the money. Very clear sound and easy to operate. It is an excellent product.
Pros: All pros
Cons: No cons
Receiver is clear, and loud, with plenty of device connections.
Excellent product great sound easy to use.
Pros: Great product good sounding best on the market.
Awesome CD Changer!! Super easy to setup. The CD Changer fit perfect;y in my Book Case Stereo Cabinet. I did have to take some time to understand the remote. The CD-600 has many features. The Yamaha CD-600 is a replacement for another major brand's CD Changer that stopped working after a few years. Yamaha makes excellent Stereo Components. My Receiver is a Yamaha and I have never had an issue with it.
Pros: Easy to Setup Works Beautifully Many Features
Cons: Remote a bit difficult to navigate
Excellent purchase. Quality of sound. Fully satisfied with my purchase.
quick quite disc changes...looks and sounds great...no problems with skips or readings...nice full function remote...hard to find a good quality multi disc changer
Cons: display dimmer doesn't dim enough...should have a display off option
Great addition to a/v system. Easy quick set up out the box. Excellent sound production. Love the multidisc capability. No problems noted with the turntable not turning or loading discs.
it seemed to the best carousel cd player for the money. it plays ALL my cds old, new, and burnt. you can change all the cds without rotating carousel.
Yamaha CD-C600 generally has been okay. Sound quality is reasonably good. When I first set it up and used it, I could not tell if I had a defective unit. It always opened to the same position and I could not cause the turntable to move. I could not load all positions on the turntable. Nothing in the manual about this. I eventually found that by playing one disc I could use disc exchange to fill the other positions. the unit has also stopped playing a selection and moved to another in random play mode. I checked with Crutchfield. The rep was helpful but had no additional information about the behavior. I called Yamaha customer serviced, waited one and a half hours to speak to a rep who said the loading/turntable behavior is just how the unit works. A note should be in the users manual about loading. Yamaha should provide a note to distributors so that they can answer the function question.
Pros: Reasonable performance if you want a CD changer
Cons: User manual/instructions not clear/complete. Yamaha customer service not easy to reach. Display is small
Just what we wanted, a multi-DVD player that has quality performance.
Pros: Plays 5 DVD's, great for providing music during parties with out having to stop to change the disc.
Cons: Random mode available only from the remote.
Easy installation, using optical cable. easy to load, sounds good. The remote legibility/font is unsatisfactory due small and thin font choice. Am enjoying cd's once again!
Had an old Sony CD player (30 yrs old) which still sounded good but the disc part broke. Really like the sound this unit produces. Button could be larger but then it looks good in living room - pretty sleek.
good sound, using digital optical to peachtree INOVA. big clear white numbers in CD tray spots, a plus. Remote really sucks, tiny little labels, on control buttons.
So far I have been very happy with my new Disc player, Easy to install and operate. I haven't had a single issue with this equipment and it looks great also, My Cd collect of over 30 years of age sound great. Thinking about a turn table to complete the set.
Pros: Easy to use
I'll start by saying I am an audiophile, and when I want to listen to music for quality of sound, it's through my Sony 999 ES and usually SACD's. That being said, on the weekends, i like to have my own private radio station, and a five disk changer is perfect for me. CD's sound SO much better than MP3's. This player sounds fantastic, easy set up (two cables), quiet transport, and the random feature so far is great. The remote control is probably the worst remote I've ever seen. Hard to read, all the buttons are the same size, etc. It doesn't bother me because I use the Logitech Harmony. It works great with this player.
Pros: Easy set up. Sounds great. Great randon playback. Quiet transport.
Cons: Remote control.
As I expected from Yamaha, excellent product.
Great piece of equipment. Hard to find multi CD player. This one works well. Love being able to load 5 CDs and not have to do anything but listen to music for the next several hours. Crutchfield did a great job delivering the unit and following up to make sure all was ok.
Pros: Holds 5 CDs. Operates as advertised.
Cons: None so far.
Easy set up and basic use--yes, loading the back CD takes a moment longer (is partially covered) but that is ok. I have not used features that others complained about (ex. shuffle function). But the sound is good.
This is a great CD player. I've owned other manufactures CD players and found their performance unacceptable. This Yamaha seems to live up to the Yamaha name i.e., quality. The operation in changing discs appears to be flawless and the sound quality is exceptional. I've listened to CD players costing up to $7000 and I can't seem to detect any reason why anyone should spend that kind of money over the quality of sound of this player.
Pros: Easy to use, easy to operate Clean sound, accurate reproduction Reasonable price for this quality of product
Cons: Can't think of any Cons
Robust carouse mechanism & great DAC w/5 discs and 5/hours of random tunes-Wow. Unit linked to Cambridge 851 amp and great CD quality audio.
Pros: Hours of Random play & great CD quality
Cons: We need more audiophile quality 5 disc players
An excellent quality product which was very affordable and was a breeze to set up. Sound is awesome. Way better than the old CD player that I have been using for years. Decided to upgrade since I have been listening to CDs again. I am also a vinyl collector, but have a large CD collection as well. As of late, I bought some SHM CD versions of some of the Beatles classics, which sound fantastic.
Pros: High Sound Quality
Cons: None so far
Yes, this product may cost considerably more than the competition but sometimes you get what you pay for. I have used the CD player for nine months now and it is flawless! I don't need drama on my music nights. I just want something that plays my CDs without skipping or freezing.
I had an earlier version of this player that after many years eventually died but I liked that one enough to buy this one. It acts weird. Sometimes I load cds in it, close the drawer and it starts playing, sometimes it doesn't. Twice when it didn't I hit play on the remote and it turned itself off. I wanted it to randomly select songs off 3 cds and it did for about 30 minutes then stopped playing anything. If I want it to countdown the remaining time, it will but if you have it on random, it won't for any songs after that one. It goes back to counting up. Twice when I wanted it to countdown, the display went blank but still played the cds. Haven't seen anyone else with the same complaints so maybe mine was somehow damaged in transit. There are better performing single disc players for the same money but I wanted the convenience of a disc changer. I may have to rethink it.
Pros: Sounds good
Cons: Bizarre behavior. Think I'm sending it back.
I bought this unit as a backup / replacement for my aging Sony CDP-CA80ES. The sound quality is almost as good but the Yamaha sounds thinner and not as full or dynamic. My biggest gripe is with the controls. The main reason for a 5 disc player is the ability to play all the discs in a random order. This feature is not available on the front panel. So after loading the discs you have to find the remote and then select this feature. To make matters worse every time you power down the unit or eject a disk the random function is cleared.....go find the remote. And as others have noted the random function will sometimes play many songs on the same disc before jumping to another. The display gives no indication as to how many discs are loaded, it always shows 5. The display is too small. The remote is IR instead of RF. I can not detect any difference in sound quality in PURE DIRECT mode....maybe I need better equipment. It turns the display off in this mode.
Pros: Sound quality is almost as good as my older unit.
Cons: Random playback feature not accessible on front panel, must use remote, random playback is lost at power down or when ejecting a disk....go find remote, display does not indicate how many discs are loaded...always shows 5, display is tiny, remote is IR instead of RF, PURE DIRECT mode.... not difference heard on my system and display is turned off.
I love this thing !!!!
Pros: High-quality sound for very good price
The Yamaha works and sounds great.
Pros: Great sound, Easy to use. You can chose the order of disc to play. Easy to install and worked immediately. I bought the Yamaha to replace a Sony CD changer that died after one week of use. Even though it was under warranty, Sony was unable to repair the unit and is refunding my money.
Cons: My only problem is that the nomenclature on the front panel has type too small and is very difficult to read when one is wearing trifocal glasses! The remote is also confusing with too many controls is a small space. Hard for old fingers to operate. Older people are probably the main users of CDs these days and Yamaha should consider older customers when they design CD players and changers.
No issues putting the unit to work. What I expected from Yamaha like the rest of my Yamaha equipment.
My Fisher 5 disk CD changer died. It was at least 30 years old. I read reviews of several 5 disk CD changers and the Yamaha seemed to be the best. I've had it for about 2 weeks now and I am very happy with it.
Pros: It works as advertised.
Bought this to replace a Denon model that I had had for 20 years....this new one has excellent sound, is easy to use and is worth every cent I paid for it...highly recommend it and would definitely buy it again!
I was replacing my still working 1989 JVC 6 Disc Changer and started to look for a decent multi CD Changer. After doing some comparison's between Sony and Onkyo the Yamaha seemed the one to purchase. Crutchfield was very helpful with answering my questions because I wasn't sure if it would play my 3 inch CD's... which it does because it has small recess in tray...The other thing it plays CDR's and has USB for my 120 IPOD. Right out the Box I started playing my collection of CD's and couldn't stop because of the clarity of sound and was surprised how clear the back up singers vocals were. After 10 hours of play my wife and I couldn't be Happier with this unit and would recommend this Yamaha C600 to anyone looking for a real nice Multi Disk Player!
Pros: Great Sound Quality For The $$, Plays 3 Inch CD's. CDR's and USB Port For IPOD's
Cons: Buttons Are Small And Hard To Read.
I purchased this to replace an Adcom changer that the drawer failed on. Right out of the box this is a more robust unit. The drawer mechanism is much better. The listening test is where this shines. High hats are bright and crisp and bass is tight where most cheap CD players struggle. I am chiefly a CD listener, but I love the iPod interface for convenience during a party. All around, considering getting another of these units for future since changers are becoming harder to find.
Pros: construction, sound
Cons: have not found any yet
Good player. Good sound reproduction and shielding. Much better than mp3 formats. It is a little slow on the swap out and disc change and could probably have larger and more visible action buttons.
Pros: Good sound.
Cons: Face buttons are small and slow to react.
Excellent sound and quality. The only reason I rated it at four stars is because the print on remote control is small hard to read for my eyes.
GOOD SOUND. EASY OPERATION IMPROVED OVER PREVIOUS MODEL CD-500
Pros: GOOD SOUND EASY OPERATION
Cons: CARE NEEDED WHEN PLACING TWO CDS IN BACK OF DISC TRAY. .
Actually my 2nd Yamaha CD player from Crutchfield getting this one as a back up if they ever stop making CD players since I have a very large collection. I have had Yamaha products since the late 70's and there is no better brand for sound and durability . Simply the best
Pros: Great durability
This changer looks nice, and plays my iPod with sound approaching cd quality. I compared side by side. So much better than using analog inputs and iPod DACS. I would trade the sleek look for a jog knob for song selection, and a display of how many songs are on disc though. Remote works iPod is nice. Smooth, dynamic sound. Pleased as always with Crutchfield service.
Pros: Made for iPod, swap discs while playing, full drawer slide out let's you change all cd's without spinning.
Cons: Controls small, no jog knob
High quality sound at a good price. Works well the my Yamaha RX-V677 AV Receiver. I recommend it.
Pros: Good sound, easy set up
Cons: None so far
Instructions are complete and easy to follow. Unit is solidly made and has all of the features I wanted. The 105db S/N ratio is impressive. Sound is great, and I can load up hours of music. What more could one want?
Pros: Solid construction and sound
Like very much -- my old NAD broke and this is a very good replacement. Not a lot to chose from these days.
Pros: sound quality very good; ubs port to enable using my ipod; able to exchange disc while current disc is playing
Cons: difficult to remove and place back discs
This unit replaces an older Yamaha CDC-555 five disc changer.
Pros: Clean design, display can be dimmed or Pure Direct mode shuts down the digital audio output and turns off the display, buttons easy to memorize & operate by touch in the dark.
Cons: Noisier tray operation versus previous CD changers but this not perturbing. Otherwise, the CD transport spins quietly.
Very pleased with this CD player. Easy to use. Discs change very quickly and quietly on "random" mode.
Pros: Easy to use, holds multiple discs and can change disc while playing another.
Cons: None found yet
Easy to operate and sound quality is great!!
I purchased an earlier version of this Yamaha 5-CD changer (the CDC-585) in 2006, from Crutchfield of course, and it still sounds and performs great after 8 years and thousands of hours of use. While I was already leaning toward Yamaha when it came time to add a second CD changer, the specifications of the CD-C600 sealed the deal. The Yamaha CD-C600's S/N ratio is rated at a respectable 105 db, while the Onkyo 6-CD changer is rated at 98 db and the Sony 5-CD changer S/N ratio is "not given." Although I wish Yamaha would have incorporated the Burr-Brown DAC that is available in Yamaha's CD-S300 and CD-N500 models, the "high performance DAC" incorporated in the CD-C600 performs admirably. Detail is strong and accurate without creating fatigue. Even though I am surprised that more manufacturers are not competing in the CD changer market, I am very pleased that Yamaha continues to put this solid and well-built performer in the marketplace.
Pros: Detailed sound, high S/N ratio for the price, ease of use, build quality
After a few days with the new machine, i think it sounds great and is easy to use. It replaced a 12 yr old onyko. I wanted a mid-priced (low-priced) CD player. And of the few in the market, this seemed like the best bet. The highs are stronger than my previous machine and the lows seem fairly consistent. The USB port is an added bonus, but I mostly use my CDs but it helps expand the music I can play while working at home without having to get up to change discs.
So glad I picked this one, a little pricier than I was hoping for; but definitely worth it for a quality product. I replaced a 32-year old Denon and now see that I should have done that well before now!
Cons: Footprint is larger than I really wanted, but then I wanted a 5-CD carousel, so that was a compromise. Not a serious Con though.
I could not be more pleased than I am with my new Yamaha CD-C600 multi-disc CD player. It is extremely well designed and built and I am astonished how much better the sound from it is than from the other CD players I've owned. The various functions perform perfectly and the logic is very easy to grasp. The unit is a breeze to load and unload and I especially enjoy the Play Exchange function which allows you to load or unload the other four slots while listening to a CD. The USB port and Standby mode are both very convenient as well. But the important thing to me is the quality of the sound the player delivers. It is fantastic. In fact, I swear that when I plug my iPhone into the USB port, it delivers noticeably better sound than I get when I use my other devices. I recommend this unit without reservation to anyone who's looking for a high quality multi-disc CD player.
Pros: Ease of use Superior sound quality Play Exchange function USB port Standby mode
I bought this after consulting by phone with a Crutchfield adviser. I'd always owned Sony changers, but when one of mine malfunctioned after many years, I wanted to know whether there was a sound and build quality difference between Sony and the higher priced Yamaha. The adviser said I'd hear and see a difference and he was right. The reproductions are clearer and the changer reads discs with flaws without skipping. The Yamaha feels more solidly built than my Sonys. The Yamaha also allows me to change all five discs at once -- no more disc skip control. It also plays USB sticks with excellent fidelity. Too bad Yamaha hasn't updated this changer to play iPhones or iPads or Bluetooth devices, but that's made clear on Crutchfield's website. This is great machine.
Pros: Sound quality Easy access to all five discs Easy readable display Well made Reads music files from USB drives
Cons: Doesn't connect to latest iPhone s or iPads No Bluetooth
After more than 12 years, it was time to replace my Sony CD changer. I was surprised at how few choices there are now, but that helped make the decision easy. The remote for my Yamaha receiver isn't multi-brand but has controls for CD functions, so that was a big plus in favor of the CD-C600. I was looking for something better than the Sony changer that's currently available and unsure about the Onkyo changer, so Yamaha was the obvious choice. I've only used it for CD playback and haven't needed the USB port. The player has met all of my expectations so far, even playing discs with light scratches that my old player couldn't handle. I appreciate the fact that when the tray is open all five discs are accessible. Other carousels I've owned needed to be rotated in order to load all 5 CDs and I find this to be a convenience. Maybe it's the reason that the footprint of the player is so large. Another convenience: when discs are loaded, the player automatically goes into play mode. I use the front panel power switch, which shuts off all power. There's also a power switch on the remote that leaves the unit in standby mode. There's no digital coax output, but I don't see that as a drawback for most users. I would highly recommend that anyone looking for a disc changer consider this one.
Pros: Disc Exchange
Great sound. Easy to use. Numbers are clear. Can load and change disks without interrupting playback. Can plug in your iPad or smart phone and play songs from that. CD digital is still far better sound than compressed music. Compressed music loses something.
Pros: Great sound Can change non playing discs while another is still playing.
After 15 years, I ordered the new Yamaha CD-C600. Not because my old CD-C505 went bad, but only because it's so old, I worry something will happen to it eventually even though it works fine. This new CD-C600 Changer has some higher end electronics that my 505 doesn't. But...seems there's always a BUT. The CD-C505 communicated well with my Pioneer CD Recorder, PDR -555RW. I could PROGRAM the 505, and the Pioneer Recorder would follow WHATEVER my 505 would do. If I hit PLAY on the 505 the Pioneer would start recording automatically. If a Disc would SKIP(change) to another Disc, the Pioneer would PAUSE automatically too. But, the best part was when the last Disc was finished, the Pioneer would go into PAUSE and save space on the Disc I was recording on. If I happen to forget NOW, to keep track of the CD-C600 the Pioneer will still keep recording without pausing, eating up what's left of the time on my CD-R Disc. I don't understand why this is. But I guess I'll have to get use to the 600, not communicating with the Pioneer CD Recorder, like my old Yamaha 505 does. WEIRD.
Pros: Very well built, and a GREAT upgrade from my old CD-C505. Metal Faceplate, love the Cosmetics. Very, Very QUIET at changing discs. And PROUD that Yamaha is STILL building 5 Disc Changers. KUDOS and wish to them.
Cons: Does not SYNC with my Pioneer CD Recorder, like my old Yamaha 505 does. I have to say it....I know people own all these IPODS and USBs, not saying anything is wrong with that. But, I wonder what other quality CD performance features Yamaha could have put into this Changer if these were left off. I'll never use them.
While I wouldn't heartily endorse an item like this without using it for at least a couple years, I will say that mine has fulfilled all its advertised promises in the few weeks I've owned it. If it plays as well in 2016 as it does now, I'll change my three-star rating to a five.
Pros: Yamaha delivers the features it advertises.
Cons: Whatever happened to CD players that moved through the discs in order, playing one randomly selected cut from each? I knew this wasn't one of those players when I purchased. Still, it would be nice if Yamaha -- or anyone else -- offered that option.
Sound conversion is very good and am satisfied there. However, this cd player if very big perhaps because the 5 cds are arranged on a non-rotating tray rather than stacked. Customers should be sure they have space. Also, if you want to use the "Pure Direct" sound boost feature which is nice the front panel display goes dark which is annoying. All in all not sure the value is there.
Pros: Good sound production.
Cons: Size, feature trade-offs.
Great piece of audio equipment. Would recommend this to someone !!
Pros: Easy to use, I play five cd's continuance with no problems
As always from Crutchfield, totally superb advice of a product that is soooo good. The sound is pretty gosh darn nice. Thanks to Shane!!! Am rockin' while paying bills. Cheers to all who love good sound and Crutchfield!
When it comes to CD changers there's not much to choose from any more. After searching what models are available, I selected the Yamaha CD-C600. I feel I made a good choice, the unit is well built and looks good, it has a clean intelligent design. I bought it to replace my 15 year old Technic cd changer that is still playing well but I wanted some of the changes and improvements that comes with time. I got upgraded sound and the ability to play my IPOD through its USB port. It took about 20 hours of expected burn in to get the sound where I like it. I think Yamaha makes a quality product, so much so I went and bought their AV RX 1020 Adventage line receiver.
Pros: Quality, looks and performance.
Cons: Cannot play AAC format through its USB port, bummer I have all of my IPOD library in the AAC format. Alternative can play all music through the IPOD but not through a thumb drive. This is the reason I'm giving the unit 4 stars instead of five. If this not a problem for some of you, it's a 5.
This product surpassed my expectations in ease of use and sound quality also the fact that I connect my IPod to it. The sound quality surpasses my old sony carousel which was replaced by this new unit very happy with my purchase
Pros: Able to play a cd while I change the rest of the CDs without interruption and able to play my IPodon my unit
Cons: Haven't run to any as of yet
Very nice CD player. Sound and function are both very good. Having 5 CD's loaded at all times is really nice. I can go from watching TV to playing some music and back to TV and never leave my chair.
Pros: Good sound and function. Holds 5 CD's.
I purchased the Yamaha to replace a 13 year old changer that died at the start of the holidays in December. My family and I agree that it sounds great with my stereo set up (24 year old stereo receiver and speakers). The player handled heavy use over the holidays and is doing great. We do miss the spiral function that was on our old changer, but random play is working well for us.
Pros: Easy to set up, everything was in the box. Wonderful sound. One can do everything from the remote or front panel of the unit.
Cons: Size--it is a very large unit so check to be sure it will fit where you want to use the player.
I thought I would get "up to date" with modern technology - gave away my old but trusty Yamaha amp and Yamaha 5-disk CD player, and bought (from Crutchfield) a Yamaha RX-V473 receiver with the intention of converting all my CD's to MP3 files. However, after trying a few, this would have been a lot more work than I expected and the resulting sound quality was not great. So, back to Crutchfield for a CD player. I chose the Yamaha CD-C600 based on on-line recommendations (I'm somewhat biased in favor of Yamaha, but I've always had good luck with their equipment). The two components produce very good sound, including the proverbial "I hear things on old favorite CD's that I had never noticed before." I'm happy with this CD player. With respect to Crutchfield, they are competitively priced, don't charge for mailing (in VA), pack the equipment very well, and have it on my doorstep on the second day after ordering. What more could I ask for? Nothing - but had I wanted to, I could have returned the CD player within 60 days for a refund or exchange, and requested technical advice ( judging from their customer service this is likely to be very good indeed). Thanks y'all!
Pros: A good, inexpensive CD player. Has a USB port for those darn MP3's.
Cons: At first I considered it a bit noisy when changing CD's (like my old CD player - probably the same mechanism - I'm sure that Yamaha could fix that!) but hardly notice it now. Some reviews complain about the remote control (visibility of labeling), but it seems OK to me, and works well.
I love being able to play not only all my CD's but also all the music on my iPod.
Pros: Easy to set up, super for using my iPod.
Wanted a simple but good quality CD player. After reading various review on this site and others I decided on the Yamaha CD-C600 to go with my Yamaha A-S500 receiver. Perfect! Couldn't be happier with my purchase. I added the Polk Audio RTi A5 speakers and a subwoofer...heavenly sound!
First, let me say that Crutchfield is the very best- buy all of your gear from them. Service is excellent. As to this cd player-- It is getting harder to find multiple disc players. I like having a multiple disc player so that I can put in a number of different cds and put it on random play for parties or general listening, and have better quality than an iPod. (I have an Oppo when I want to play a single cd and sit and hear all of the detail.) This is a well-built player, but the random play does not really play random. It tends to play 5 or 6 or more tracks in a row from each cd before going to the next cd. I've had other multi-disc players that might play a couple songs off the same cd before going to the next, but not this one. If you are buying this to load with cds and mix it up, forget it. If you are looking to separately play your cds, but don't want to reload, then it is fine. Also a negative, there is no random play button on the face of the deck, you have to use the remote.
Pros: The usb port for connecting an iPod or similar works very well and the DA converter definitely improves the sound quality over what you would hear coming out of the iPod earphone jack.
Cons: Random play does not randomly shift between cds. I would not buy this machine again. If it will not randomly play cds, you can get a better quality single disc player for the same price.
Works great out the box, I hear good quality and find no problems.
Pros: Worth the price?
BOTTOM LINE FIRST (HUH?!): Unit delivers high fidelity CD playback with excellent functionality and features. This is a perfect fit for my stereo system and music tastes! Crutchfield pricing, ordering process, packaging (double-boxed), and shipping superlative! BROAD PERSPECTIVE: As a male geezer with a strong preference for vinyl and one toe in the technologically "advanced" electronics whirlpool of the 21st century, I was catapulted into purchasing the Yamaha C600 by virtue of the death of my Technics 5-CD carousel player. Manufactured in 1989, the top loading turntable-like player performed reliably for 24 years. CDs are principally fallback music media for me, so I seldom agonized over fidelity deficiencies or coloration issues. For me, attentive music listening has always been the domain of vinyl. Having stated that, I am extremely satisfied with music produced by the Yamaha C600. In conjunction with the robust RX-V995 in stereo mode (with the "Effect" feature off), I feel I am getting the maximum CD musicality my system can deliver. PERIPHERAL CONSIDERATIONS: Speakers (2) are MartinLogan Motion 12, with BIC F-12 powered subwoofer. Headphones are Sennheiser HD 448. Test CD music selections: Abbey Road by The Beatles; Imaginaerum by Nightwish; Fear of a Blank Planet by Porcupine Tree; Not Your Kind of People by Garbage; Don't Believe the Truth by Oasis; Soft Parade by The Doors; More soundtrack by Pink Floyd.
Pros: SOUND QUALITY: Excellent. Crystal clear and faithful stereo output to floor standing speakers and headphones. No speaker channel or unit background noise during playback. UNIT BUILD AND CONTROLS: Excellent. Clean appearing and solid chassis with intuitive controls. Easy CD loading in both single and 5 disc modes. Play status display dashboard well designed and characters crisp and easy to read. Unit is designed to allow both hands-on push button and remote control programming.
Cons: REMOTE CONTROL (CDC9): Yamaha Human Factors Department needs to investigate remote control labeling improvements. It's great to have all commands in a compact unit, but small black print on a brushed silver finish is difficult to read. I-POD/USB PORT: Yamaha is POSITIVELY commended for forthright representation of USB system design being driven by I-POD.
I ordered this along with a new RS-500 Receiver. Everything delivered in one large box very promptly. I am replacing an existing JVC system and I wanted a simple system which I got. Everything was receieved in good shape and in good working order and I was up and running in no time. I much prefer the carosell multi disk system to the cartredge system on my old JVC. I'm sure I will enjoy this system I hope for a very long time.
Pros: Life is good with no complaints
Cons: I am having some difficulty adjusting to the new remote controls. I'm sure this will take care of itlself shortly.
Great CD player. You can enjoy your favorite songs for hours without leaving the couch.
Pros: I love the USB plug.
Cons: No digital output.
Excellent player. Replaced my Marantz player that died after 4 years. The Yamaha has great sound, very clean and rich. The random feature works far better than the Marantz ever did. Am running through a Yamaha RS700 receiver and a pair of Cambridge Soundworks tower speakers and couldn't be more pleased with the sound.
Cons: none so far
So far so good, much better than the our last cd changer. Very easy to read controls, we like the ipod hookup on the front
Pros: easy to use
Cons: large foot print
I use this in combination with my Yamaha RX-797 receiver and could not be more pleased. The combined Yamaha "house sound" is warm, clear, musical and responsive, as I had hoped. And I like it that both components have the "Clear Direct" feature to produce the best possible sound. Furthermore, the CD-C600 has all the other features I wanted and need, such as multiple disc capacity, repeat, program, random, etc. In short, this is a lot of CD changer for the money--my base for comparison is a $500 Denon single disc DVD player and a $1,000 Marantz SACD player, both of which I still use for specialized roles in my stereo system.
Pros: Excellent sound quality for the money and rich in features.
Cons: The remote could be a little larger and better shaped to the hand for the most common operations of play, skip, stop, pause, etc. This is not a big deal overall and is my only real criticism.
Bought the Yamaha to replace an old Sony changer. The Sony still played discs fine, but would no longer change discs without using the remote or depressing the button on the changer. My wife likes to play CDs while working in the house, and she missed having the changer automatically move to the next disc. The Yamaha fit nicely into the space vacated by the Sony, and was actually a bit smaller. We have only had the Yamaha a couple of weeks, but so far we have been very impressed with the sound quality. It seems to provide much crisper sound than the Sony ever did. This is our fourth carousel player (two Sonys, one Harmon-Karden, and now the Yamaha) in about fifteen years. They seem to average about five years service before they give problems, and all the problems seem to originate in the carousel mechanism. Yamaha has always had a good reputation for quality and longevity, so I'm hoping this unit will last longer than the others.
Pros: Very good sound quality and very easy to operate.
Cons: None so far.
This product does what I want it to do without any problems at all. That is to play a continous steam of music of my choice without having to change the cd after only one has played. Presently, this represents over 5 hours of music. Other than the music itself, the only sound made is when a disc is automatically changed. This is not a distraction for me. This cd player has a lot of options in selecting the music to be played. I do not avail myself of these options as I have no need to. This is any excellant product.
Pros: It does what it is supposed to do: play music for a period of five cds.
Cons: None for me.
I am very happy with the performance of this multi disc player. It was very easy to set up and start using.
Pros: Ease of set up and use.
Cons: Could have been built with more output choices like HDMI.
The CD-C600 is a good CD player. It' pretty much does what you would expect from a 5 disk player. Plays 5 disks or shuffles the music. It also has a good frequency response. But what I like most is the USB port on the front. I have downloaded all of my music onto a Flash Drive. I plug the Flash Drive into the USB port and put it on shuffle. It plays music all evening. Great way to entertain. Start the music and forget about it.
Pros: Sounds good and looks good. It has all of the features you need in a CD player. And again the Crutchfield team helped me to make the right choice.
Seems to be a good solid cd player. Easy to set up and easy to operate.
Pros: So far everything is great. Operation and sound are what I expected in a cd changer.
Cons: A little noisy when changing cds.
Replaced an old 6 disc changer that was skipping. Still have too many CDs not to use the mix feature of a multi-disc system. As always, Crutchfield was helpful with its reviews to allow me to select a replacement. The systmen was easy to set up and the sound is great. No problems.
Pros: Easy setup and sound quality.
Many years ago, I sold hi-fi products for a living. That was when cassettes and records were the medium. I still have a reconditioned pair of AR 10 Pie speakers and a newer Onkyo, 100 watt/channel, receiver. I did not think that upgrading from an old Teac CD player, and then an old Fisher CD player would make an audible difference...I was definitely wrong! The Yamaha C-600 is great! The sound it produces brings out subtle nuances (i.e., harps in Mozart, reverb in pop tunes) that I never heard before. My only regret is that I waited so long.
Pros: Wonderful sound, Easy to program...all I could expect and more.
Cons: I don't have a problem loading any CD's , as some other reviewers have expressed.
Replaced a dead Denon and am delighted. Great ease of operation and features.
Pros: Everything's dandy.
So far so good! Easy set up, beautiful sound, I've had the unit for about 2 weeks...hope it keeps performing like it is now, if so, I'll be very pleased!
Very nice, Works just as advertised.
Pros: Matches my other equipment and easy set up for use of a single remote control.
Cons: Cam't think of any.
Just what I wanted - good sound, simple functionality.
Easy installation and excelent performance.
So far, I will give this unit a high rating. Over the years I have had multiple CD players. There are 3 in my house now. This Yamaha is replacing a Denon changer that stopped working. The features are an improvement over the Denon. I would wait a few years before commenting as I want to see how it lasts. I liked the Denon but that brand just does not seem to last. The Denon stopped performng certain functions and for the "name and reputation" I would not have expected such to happen. I am hop[ing this Yamaha proves a bit longer lasting.
Pros: great sound, great price, otherwise too soon to compare
Cons: so far none
I'll be brief. Had unit about a month. So far no problems. It works well, gives superior play and record sound quality, easy set-up and use. Customer service also superior.
Pros: Sound quality, easy set-up and use.
The Yamaha CD C0600 is absolutely an quality product. I've purchased CD disc changers in the past, but I've notice that the Yamaha CD-C600 that I just recently acquired is much solid in every aspect of CD disc changer. I'm tremendously impressed with this product. Check it out for yourself!!!!
Pros: I rate this product at the highest level.
I am extrmely satisfied with my new cd changer form Yamaha. The clarity of the sound is the wonderful. I have no difficulties changing cds. It is easy to operate. I was able to connect with my other equipment with ease--without reading the instructions. I am a very happy purchaserd.
Pros: sound quality and ease of use
The Yamaha CD-C600 Changer has been installed in my home system for about 4 weeks now. I am asbsolutely loving the audio performance of this changer. It delivers the most "optimal" combination of detail with warmth and that emotional engagement of listening pleasure. Some other changers boast amaziing specs. However, those changer/players do not deliver emotional impact! The Yamaha CD-C600 DOES. The mechanics operate rather smoothly as well. One would think it is a CD changer that costs 2 or 3 times the price.
Pros: Great emotional musical delivery and smooth mechanical operation!!
Cons: No real cons to mention.
Excellent sound, good enough ease of use. Wish it had easier to read control designations on the main unit. Too tiny. Almost invisible. Also, a fault of all such gear, power plug requires an couple of extra inches of space in the back to fit an already deep unit into anything less than about 20 inches. Should have a right angle connector for power in the back. Would save an inch or more.
Pros: Sound quality. Nice big disk numbers on the carousel inside the unit. I have not tried the USB input, but if it works, will be a big plus.
Cons: Poor ergonomics on the main unit controls. Power cord makes the unit a few inches longer for fitting into a space.
I have owned a Sony, Teac, and JVC, all 3 combined would not out perform this baby. It reads and plays every type disc I throw in her. She offers more programming than I will ever use. Do not be concerned about the difficulty of loading #5 disc, it ain't rocket science. Most importantly is the sound...clear crisp full, pair it with a proper receiver with sound fields and you get a unit that ROCKS!
After listening to a JVC DVD changer for 3 years this player has a different sound. Bass seams a touch more forward. And midrange a bit more pronounced. Acoustic guitar comes through clear and more up front in the sound stage. Overall the sound is very pleasing no complaints. I have only been listening to this unit for a three weeks.
Pros: More articulated sound than my last player. Bass more robust but not overly so. Simple clean controls on the front face and remote. Matches my 25 year old Yamaha T-7 tuner perfectly.
Cons: None so far.
When my eight year old Sony 5 disc CD player died on July 4th, I decided to return to another Yamaha CD player which pairs with my Yamaha RX-777 receiver. I couldn't be happier. The sound and the operation are great as is the price given all of its wonderful features. As a music lover, I cannot recommend Yamaha products more highly.
Not quite an audiophile CD player, but one of the best in multi-disc changers. I still listen to a lot of CDs, and in the process of upgrading my stereo system with a new high current receiver and new quality speakers, I noticed the distortion on my Onkyo DX-C390 to be unacceptable (and it always didn't recognize the CDs until repeated on/off tries). The sound specs on other CD changers were the same as the Onkyo, except for the Yamaha CD-C600 and the Marantz CC4003. The Marantz had slightly better specs but some reviews said the Marantz didn't always read CD-R/RWs, so I chose the Yamaha. The sound is what I expected. No distortion and well balanced. It reads all discs well- CDs, CDR/RWs, and MP3s. The front USB port reads songs perfectly off my thumb drives. Compared to other changers I've owned in the past, Yamaha could improve the controls quite a bit- you can't rotate the platter tray to change discs if it is open, and it's easier to change discs using the Play/Xchange button while one disc is still playing. And it is difficult to reach the back two disc slots when the platter tray is open. For the sound quality and multi-disc playback convenience, the design limitations are worth putting up with.
Solid performer with excellent controls and sound. Carousel design offers a nice compromise between size and access. One has to be a bit careful putting discs 4 & 5 in place, but it's not particularly difficult even after a couple of drinks (joke). Sounds far better than the older CD player it replaced. I especially like the USB port as it allows immediate access to all of my music (I have my entire collection on a iPod). Kind of obviates the need for a CD player, but my receiver doesn't have a USB port. I highly recommend this unit.
After reading several reviews decided to order. Unit came in today and the CD loader will not open...just hear a grinding sound. On the phone now with Crutchfield in queue to talk to customer support...just spoke with customer support and a new unit is on its way. Hope this was an anomaly from yamaha....fyi: very impressed with customer support.
I bought this CD player to replace a Sony RCD-W500C player-recorder whose 5-CD magazine began keeping my CDs. I wanted a simple, carrousel-style CD player. I had a Yamaha many years ago and liked it but traded it in for the Sony recorder. My new Yamaha handles the CDs well and sounds good. This was my first purchase from Crutchfield, and I am satisfied with both the product and Crutchfield's handling of my order.
Solid and smoothly operating system with a lot of versatility. The only black mark so far is that you cannot select random play mode without using the remote control. Furthermore, if you have a Yamaha receiver with a remote that controls compatible devices, which this is, it still won't fulfill this function. The receiver remote will only operate both devices for limited functions, e.g. on, off, volume. Annoying.
So far, I have had the product less than 30 days, it is all I had hope for.
I wanted to get a really good (non-professional level) CD player, and having a Yamaha stereo receiver, decided to purchase this one. I am very satisfied with the quality of sound, and that is the most important to me. It is a very convenient and nicely designed CD player, and I highly recommend it!
I owned the Yamaha CD-697 before this one, and I thought the operation of that one was smoother and more intuitive. But the sound quality of this one is excellent, and I like the convenience of being able to play mp3 discs, thumb drives, and my ipod directly. Even lossy 128kbps files sound good on this.
Great sound production. The USB port for MP3 input is a great convenience. Controls are not intuitive and a bit confusing, but an audio buff should not have a problem. While "pricey" compared with other options, it has strong value.
Excellent CD changer. Superior sound to my previous changer. No problems playing a variety of formats - regular CDs, CDR, CDRW, WMA, and MP3. A good solid player. The USB port is a handy addition for those of us who have audio focused systems where the amplifier does not have USB.
Have owned this less than month and am very pleased with performance. Sound quality is excellent, not many multi-disc players will come with Burr-Brown DACs. Carousel works well, some reviewers on other sites complain they scratch their disc if loading to the back two spaces, with care this is not an issue. The carousel does not rotate to load discs it does open very wide to allow loading. When using x-change disc - the playing disc spot is kept to the rear to avoid confusion. Overall, very pleased with this especially compared to the competition Sony - not interested, Denon player looks to be made by Sony so not interested. Would be interested to update review a year into ownership.
Got this after two Marantz CC4001's failed to function. (Thank God for Crutchfield's return policy and customer service.) The Marantz 4001 had a Cirrus Logic DAC (same as is in the 4003) that produced amazing clarity, but was also a bit shrill in the treble. The Yamaha Burr-Brown DAC is very different. Warm, very spacious, and with pretty good detail. It reminds me of the Denon DCM 460, which was much more expensive. So it's excellent value. Cons: You can't select a disc to play with the remote. You can go one forward or one back, but to go from, say, #2 to #5, you have to either get up and walk over and hit a button on the front of the player, or go through a slow two-step "disk-skip" with the remote. Also, the platter doesn't rotate when open, and two of the trays for cds are half under the frame, making loading them without scratching the cd a delicate operation. Finally, you can't select a track to play until the unit starts playing track #1. These things are quite annoying to me, but maybe not to you. All are completely avoidable design flaws. It's as if the Yamaha design team didn't know anything about changers and how they're typically used, and didn't look at any others, but tried to invent one from scratch.
I received this unit yesterday and was excited to add it to my system as a way to play several CDs without having to return to the living room to change them after each one. My other unit is a single disc. On the second day, the player stopped playing in the middle of a disc. I checked the disc and it is in new condition with no scratches. The disc plays perfectly in my car and in my single disc unit, but continues to stop playing on the new Yamaha. To be fair, my previous changer had the same issue and was unrepairable despite 3 visits to the factory. I will say that the changer mechanism is quiet and sound quality was very good. But a changer that stops in the middle of play is useless to me. I have the impression that home CD changers are a gamble in the first place no matter what the brand name. I will stick with single disc players until someone figures out how to build a reliable changer. Or maybe I will find a way to adapt my car unit to play on house current.

love Yamaha quality and since I have a Yamaha receiver it only makes sense to add a Yamaha CD player. I bought a R-S700 receiver a few months ago and am tired of he signal quality that I get when playing CDs thru my Sony DVD player. What's the use of having a quality amp pushing Klipsch Forte speakers when you have garbage for input. Hopefully I have now rectified the situation. I love how easy Crutchfields make the process. Have a Sony CDP-CE500 not that happy with it, works fine, but wanted something a little nicer in a 5/6 disc changer for long listening periods of complete cd's. Also have an Oppo BDP-103 and BDP105D, they sound great, and an Onkyo C-7030 all quite good, Onkyo is quite good but only single disc, have a newer Yamaha Aventage receiver and very happy with it, but wanted to replace the changer again with something a little more high quality for long listening periods. Afraid I can't answer this one. I don't use any online sources, only CD's. The changer itself has been excellent -- sound quality matches my Marantz CC4001 changer, and it's holding up well after 5 years of daily use. [ RYAN K Apr 18, 2018 ]

Once the player has been stopped or turned off it reverts back to the beginning of the disc and starts again with track 1. It won't resume with the last track played. [ MICHAEL Apr 06, 2018 ]
NO, it will start cd over. If it's 'paused' for a short time frame it will resume playback. [ DANIEL J Apr 06, 2018 ]
No it does not it restarts [ Stephen Apr 05, 2018 ]
Not in my experience though that would have been desirable. It simply (re)begins again at the first track. Great player though, have been very pleased with the reproduction sound. [ Alan Apr 05, 2018 ]
I need to correct my earlier response. The device does include a shuffle (random) feature. In fact it shuffles among multiple disks. My comment about the remote control being difficult to read and counter intuitive still applies. [ GARY L. Apr 06, 2018 ]
As far as I can tell it doesn't. More disappointing to me is although it has a 5 disk carousel, I don't see how you can go to a specific disk like from 4 to 2. All you can do is "skip": forward one at a time. And the remote is obscure with odd, small keys. Too bad because otherwise it is a good product at a fair price. [ GARY L. Apr 06, 2018 ]
Yes it does! [ SUSAN K Apr 02, 2018 ]

everything selection is done external to the cd player. The player itself produces excellent quality audio from the iPod or iPad because of its superior D/A convertor. [ Joseph Feb 04, 2018 ]

You need the rest of the sound system ... receiver/ amplifier and speakers ... and your ears. [ Joseph Dec 29, 2017 ]
Does not come with speakers and you do need a receiver/amp to connect to. Good CD player and nice being able to plus iPod or iPad into to stream music. Remote is worst design I've seen but works fine [ Wythe Dec 28, 2017 ]
This is a AV separate component. You need to hook it up to a receiver and be running two speakers minimum from the receiver. It's a nice player for the money but you need the whole setup to use it. [ Christopher Dec 28, 2017 ]
The unit is just a CD player. It doesn't include a receiver. You might want to call Crutchfield for recommendations for a complete system, possibly all-in-one, that is in your price range. [ Ron Dec 28, 2017 ]

Mine is just a shade over 16. [ Tom Jul 03, 2017 ]
The actual measurement is 15 5/8". You'll need some extra space for the connections. [ WILLIAM Mar 14, 2016 ]
The depth of this CD player is 15-9/16, but you need to allow at least an additional 1-1/2 inches behind for cable connections if you are trying to fit it inside a cabinet. [ Nadine Mar 06, 2016 ]
Yes I own one but rarely use it. Measurement front to back is a detail that must be provided by seller. Adding another inch or 2 for leads and power cord needs to be considered too. [ JIMMY W Mar 04, 2016 ]
The unit itself is about 15 5/8" deep. You have to take into consideration the plug in behind it. That takes up the rest of the space. If you can drill a hole in the back of the cabinet, that would allow it to fit. I like this unit very much. I'm an artist and paint to tribal, world and Celtic music and the sound (along with the Yamaha receiver) kills my studio. Yay. [ JUDY Mar 04, 2016 ]
The overall depth including power and patch cord over 17 inches. The equip. cabinet without cords is less than 16 inches. [ JOSEPH Mar 01, 2016 ]
From front to back the unit is 15 1/2 inches. With your wire jacks add 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch which gives you room.Steve [ steven Mar 01, 2016 ]
The depth (front to back) is 16.5 inches. The width (left to right) is 17 inches. I measured twice! Great player, too - enjoy! [ Terry Mar 01, 2016 ]
It would be a tight fit, l measured mine you will need at least 171/2" to have room for power cables etc. Sorry because we are very pleased with ours. [ Bob Feb 29, 2016 ]
Hi Bullet, Mine measures 16" deep, but you have to allow for the RCA or other connecting cable plugs, which are easily another inch plus. It's a great CD player. Jeffry [ Jeffry Feb 29, 2016 ]
The actual cabinet depth is 15 5/8" deep, but you'll need to add something for the electrical and patch cords. It looks like the factory was rounding up, and they didn't take into account the unit connected. Your figure of over 17" is more practical. [ Gary Feb 29, 2016 ]
It is a little over 17" and is larger than my other equipment in my bookcase. [ FONTIANE P Feb 29, 2016 ]
Yes, connect USB device, press CD/USB to select the iPod/ USB mode. Start playback [ JOHN Jun 01, 2015 ]
Never tried it! My music is stored on my phone and my work computer, so the question has never arisen. I'll try tonite and get back. There is definitely a USB port on the front that's labeled "iPhone/USB", so the implication is that it will. on another topic, however, I use the "random" setting regularly for playing CD's., and AM NOT FOND of it. The logic and speed of change isn't as good as my old Denon. Otherwise, it's OK. [ ROBERT May 28, 2015 ]
No. This is a "changer" not a "player" --so it needs a separate receiver or amplifier to play music from a USB stick (or CD). [ LEON R May 28, 2015 ]
so it says but I have not tried it. [ CHRIS May 28, 2015 ]
I have never tried. [ michael May 28, 2015 ]
yes it sure will. I use it with my Iphone 4 s and it plays just fine. [ JEFFERY L Jan 24, 2015 ]
I think it is supposed to be able to do that but I have not figured out how. I am in the process of converting music files from my old pc to iMac. [ ELLEN H Jan 23, 2015 ]

The best way to support this is to have your card into a seperate transmitter or use an MP3 player, plug into the amp using the RCA plug "Y" adapter with a PIn Ear Bud connection then using one of the Line IN ports (with the RCA portion of the "Y" adapter plugged into one of the Line IN connections) the Pin connection plugged into the MP3 or Transmitter, select that Line IN connection you're using on the amp then select random on your player, then listen away! this amp will not randomly select through USB port as you want it to it's simply a convenience connection. you may have to step up into a more pricey amp to get the ability your looking for however the connection i explained is exactly how i connect to the amp with my Ipod and it works perfectly. i hope you decide to go with this amp, the sound quality and clearity is amazing and for the price you really can't get anything better. Hope this helps. Good Luck! [ MARK Apr 30, 2014 ]
I don't know if you can use the USB to play the songs. I don't think there's an mp3 decoder in the unit. you may have to transfer the files to an mp3 player to do that. [ Jon Apr 29, 2014 ]
Sorry - have not used that feature. However, the Random setting for CDs does not have the best randomizing logic I've encountered. I preferred that of my now-defunct Denon. You may not be as picky, since you imply all you want is a workable random setting. It is better than no random. Again - only used CD random. Good luck. [ ROBERT Apr 27, 2014 ]
I don't know what a mp3 transmitter is. I don't own this item anymore. I sent this back in favor of the Sony cd 5 disc player...since this Yamaha model won't let each disc spin in a circle while the drawer is open like normal players do. Sorry that I can't be anymore of help. [ CHAD Apr 24, 2014 ]
