The receiver meets my expectations and preforms as advertised. It replaced a Yamaha that was lacking all the modern conveniences. Now I have HDMI hookup, I POD capabilities, and much more. With the old system I could never adjust the speakers to sound quite right. With YPAO that problem is taken care of.

Pros: Easy speaker setup, great sound, good bargain for the price.

Cons: The remote's buttons are too small. No manual you have to print it yourself.

Quickly wanted to mention Crutchfield's tentativeness to my order. I purchased this and was not home when UPS attempted to deliver it the three times so got sent back. Crutchfield was quick to answer my questions via email and gave me multiple choices. End of the day I got the product and it's wonderful! I had an older Yamaha multi channel receiver with just component hookups that has lasted a decade. I saw this unit and shopped around for similar products but stuck with Yamaha because of its dependability. This unit was very easy to set up. Can finally use HDMI for audio and was able to eliminate a ton of cables. Plenty of HDMI hook ups and appreciate the component hook ups, aux hookup on the front, and USB adapter on the front as well. I was able to customize my surround settings for my klipsch tower, center, and rear speakers as easy as the old unit. Love the different options for the effects. All in all very pleased with my investment and the sound is amazing.

Pros: Easy to set up. Crutchfield customer service. Yamaha dependability and performance.

    Very Nice Receiver

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced my 10 year old Onkyo receiver with this one. It has great sound and was easy to set up. I almost didn't buy it because it didn't come with WiFi built in. But I really like the feature set, so I got a 50ft. cat 5 cable and ran it under my floor. Works great. One of the most useful features is the iPad app for controlling it. After looking at Sony, Denon and Onkyo I decided the Yamaha app was hands down the best. The net radio works great and sounds great. I am running it with bose acoustimass 15 speakers.

Pros: Easy set up, great sound, great app

    Cons: No built in WiFi

Finally had to replace the old Marantz and after a lot of research I decided on the Yamaha and could not be happier. Tons of features lots of power you can not go wrong with this receiver.

Pros: network capable, awesome sound and lots of inputs for just about any component. still playing with the android app

    Cons: no manual (CD only)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my third Yamaha receiver, I only bought this unit because I needed and wanted HDM1 connections in order to truly appreciate Bluray DVDs. I have never had any issue or problems with Yamaha receivers. since I am familiar Yamaha receivers set up was easy. I like that on this model as with my previous units I can use banana plugs for all my speaker connections.

Pros: Easy to set up, YPAO was very helpful.

Cons: Although set was not too difficult, I did have to refer to the owners manual a couple of times which is on a CD, I am all for saving tress, environment, but I wish the manual would have been in booklet/paper.

Good Value -- took a little tweaking to get the right sound.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My old Pioneer had a channel go out and it was going to cost almost as much to fix it as buy new, so I did a few hours of research and narrowed my search to this Yamaha and a couple of others in this price range. Final decision was made in discussing my needs with a Crutchfield rep. The receiver works great and wasn't that difficult to install -- I still don't have the HDMI feed from the cable box attached to the receiver, but I will now that I have a second HDMI cable. I was able to hook up my older RCA plug DVD and VCR units, but it took me quite a bit of experimenting to get the sound to work -- not the receiver's fault, but it just took me a while. The automatic set-up of the speakers using the supplied mike had to be done twice as my spouse turned on the blender in the first try. BTW, the mix that the auto-setup came up with had almost no bass presence -- and since I like a very "warm" sound, I was a little worried until I loaded up the CD manual and found how to boost the subwoofer output. Between boosting what the receiver sent and increasing the subs own volume, I was able to acheive the sound I like. Yes, I figured it out, but spent several hours (not all at once) getting it right. Now I am noticing my 10 year old Polk mini speakers probably need upgrading. I think I'll pick up a pair of TL2's and see if they make a big difference. All in all seems to be a good unit. BTW -- the movie and music presets are difficult to discern the differences.

Pros: Good sounding unit, lots of inputs. Easy to do basic set up.

Cons: Took quite a bit of experimentation to get the warm, bassy sound I enjoy. Music and movie presets are a little "gimmicky" -- I can't really tell them apart except for the amount of reverb and surround delay they added for many of them. Still experimenting to find the ones that sound the best in my room to my tastes.

I couldn't believe that the delivery was so fast. The setup was simple and fast. It sounds great, used it with a Bose system that I have and with a new Blu ray that I ordered from you and all worked perfect. Will order from again.

    Pros: Easy setup, great sound

    Cons: None so far.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I chose this unit over comparable the Denon and Onkyo units. Do not get me wrong, I am sure that I would have been quite happy with any of the three. However, I went with the Yamaha since it has the 4K pass through feature. I wanted this receiver to be as modern as possible. I have an 8-year old Yamaha RX 1400 that requires tons of connections since it does not have the HDMI switch. The RX 1400 is still works great so Yamaha did have a slight advantage going into the purchase selection but I would have purchased what I felt was the best receiver for me no matter what name badge is on it. The 1400 powers my large home theater system in the basement. This purchase was for a smaller system in a medium-sized living room. The 473 sounds fantastic. And, it was easy to set up and has worked flawlessly since I purchased it a few weeks ago. I do not find the instructions difficult to read as other posters have mentioned. You have to take your time and set a receiver up properly. None of these receivers are plug and play. They require planning and thinking during set up. They all require some slight adjustments either manually or through the use of the automatic calibration systems. Once you have them set up, you can enjoy them for years.

Pros: 3D and 4K pass through. Looks great. Light compared to my RX 1400 Remote was simple to program the tv and blu-ray player.

Cons: No paper instructions. I printed the instruction manual off so it would be available without hassle in the future.

    Nice receiver

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a nice-sounding receiver that was easy to set up. I did need to adjust the bass upwards from the default to get things to my liking, but sounds are crisp and full without being in the least bit boomy (I have a straight stereo setup, no subwoofer). There's ample power for my small room, and the HDMI switching works perfectly. Plays nice with my Logitech One remote, too. Recommended!

Pros: Good value, nice sound, easy set-up, plenty of legacy inputs.

Cons: Could use a few more HDMI inputs

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this Yamaha RX-V473 Av Receiver to be used in my bedroom. When I began with general setup procedure, and was optimizing the speaker setting automatically (YPAO), I had a problem: The Memory Guard was ON in the unit; therefore, I could not do any change. By e-mail, Matt, in Crutchfield Technical Support, explained to me how to turn if off. (Thanks, Matt). After that, I was able to perform the setting that I wanted, and then turn it off again. I review the following functions: Playing back music stores on UBS storage device; Listening to FM/AM radio;Selecting the sound mode; Playing back the network contents, such as, listening to internet radio and network update; Selecting the input source and favorite settings at once, following the changings the combination of video/audio input jacks, HDMI, digital optical, digital coaxial, analog stereo and component video explained in detail in the Owner's Manual. This functions mentioned above work very good. It was impressing!... I am using the following speakers: One Polk Audio R300 Two Polk Audio R150 One Polk Audio CS10 If you are a novice, as I am, please print the Owner's Manual, or refer to, it on the supplied CD-ROM to get help if you need. In order to get the most of this receiver do some reading...I am satisfsied with the performance of this AV receiver and my score is 5.

    Cons: Confusing user manual.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Simplicity. Sometimes the bells and whistle you forget the purpose of the product. The extras that Yamaha thinks of, ports for Ipods and easy to reach Aux inputs are the equivalent of why the Ipod/phone is successful. This product is heads above the other "top" brands for functionality. I have already created a small listening corner, waiting for my entertainment center to be built in January and the sounds are amazing. Hooked up to my polk bookshelf, Advent floors speakers, and a powered sub this thing does it all without really warming up. Does it have a ridiculous amount of HDMI outlets or speaker outlets, no, but it would be great for 95% of the people out there.

    Great Product - Confusing Instructions

SanderB from Marietta, GA on 11/20/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this A/V receiver to replace an older Denon receiver that did not have the more modern HDMI interfaces. Had I never configured an A/V unit before, I think I would have been lost with the instructions. However, with some trial and error, I was able to hook up all the connections correctly. Configuring the unit to operate with my new Plasma from Samsung and my older Blu-Ray player was somewhat difficult given the instructions contained in the pdf file supplied. Of particular difficulty was figuring out that although I hooked up the unit via HDMI to my TV and my Uverse system, the system still needed an optical cable from the TV to the A/V receiver in order to hear sound generated from the TV's Internet content (e.g., Netflix, Hulu, etc.) Even then, I cannot understand why HDMI control settings cannot be used to switch automatically to the AV4 optical input from the TV. I am still unable to figure out SCENE settings. I am also still not clear on the configuration of all of the audio, DLNA, DSP, and media player features. So, while I give the physical unit itself 5 stars, the instruction manual lowers my total rating to only 4 stars.

Pros: Loved the YPAO microphone setup. This was a great improvement over the setup of my older Denon unit. Within 5 minutes, all my speakers were configured. Ease of speaker connections. Multiple HDMI inputs to a single HDMI output.

Cons: Confusing and often contradictory user manual instructions - especially for one not already steeped in A/V technology lingo.

    Good Receiver GREAT SERVICE

Robert from New Castle, PA on 11/18/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had a problem with the first receiver: it would not connect to my network with a wired connection. I talked to Crutchfield and Yamaha techs and they had they had no ideas that hadn't occurred to me and nor things I hadn't done. I wasn't that concerned because I didn't think I would use the Internet radio and could do firmware updates with a USB drive. Finally, I called Crutchfield and they sent me a new one. It took two days to receive it at no charge. SUPER SERVICE. I am highly impressed with the YPAO speaker setup. I used a sound level meter and a test CD with my old receiver with good results. I used the YPAO setup and checked the results with my old procedure and found the new results were extremely close to my previous setup. I'm not a great believer in using equalizers, but I found the equalizer results helped a great deal in the bass area between 100 and 200 Hz. (I measured between 20 and 200 Hz since I was only checking the transition between the subwoofer and other speakers.) I really couldn't improve on the receiver in any important way. The menus are very straight forward although some people have criticized the utilitarian look of the on-screen windows as being "old tech". I find them simple and functional.

Pros: YPAO is super and idiot proof. The receiver has very good features and adjustability . The net radio is really rather good and I am using it much more than I anticipated.

Cons: First receiver didn't work, but Crutchfield to the rescue.

I purchased the Yamaha RX-V473 to replace a dearly loved but outdated McIntosh, and I couldn't be more pleased with it. The receiver has turned our living room into a home theater with surround sound at its best. Music is especially enjoyable because of the expansive range of highs and lows, regardless of genre.

Pros: The price is more than reasonable for this high-quality piece of equipment (Yamaha RX-V473 receiver).

    Cons: None so far.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased the Yamaha because my Onkyo croaked. It was a quick purchase, based a lot on reviews. Things I don't like: I have a VCR still, and while I don't use it much, the Yamaha is a pain with it. You can't just hook up the HDMI cable from the reciever to the tv. have to have a separate cable, because its not digital. So don't get rid of all your RCA cables kids. It was a pain to figure out how to configure it, so I finally called Crutchfield. The tech was helpful, but it took us a while to figure out how to config the receiver. So that part is NOT user friendly. If you don't have a VCR...well, its not a problem. I do like the usb for the ipod. However the interface is a bit clunky. Yamaha needs to really do some better software work. I have not networked the receiver yet. Its not wireless (why not Yamaha???) I guess I'm just not that impressed with it overall. Does the job, but for the price, I think I should have been more impressed by it, and I'm just not.

Pros: Speaker hook up easy. TV hookup was a snap with the HDMI cables. Sounds good.

Cons: VCR Hook up is a pain. No printed manual. No wireless networking. It just doesn't seem as intuitive as I would like to see in a unit from Yamaha.

I replaced my 20+ year old Kenwood Amplifer with the Yamaha RX-V473. My surround sound system has never sounded this good. The crispness and clarity when playing a blu-ray disc is remarkable.

Pros: Good price. My surround sound system has gone from mediocre to fantastic.

Cons: You have to purchase an extra component in order to play record player.

    Glad I chose this one

ManhattanMan from Manhattan, KS on 8/1/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was debating between this and the previous year's model v471, which was also highly rated and much cheaper but didn't have any of the network connectivity features. I'm glad I went with this model! I'm not an audio expert so can't really comment on the quality of sound, although I think it sound great with the Klipsch Quintets and Polk Audio subwoofer. The best feature, by far, is Airplay paired with the remote control app for the iPhone. Even with the unit off, I can simply start Pandora on my phone, hit the airplay icon and within a few seconds the receiver is turned on and music is streaming from my phone. With the remote app, I can set a sleep timer, change the volume or "scene", among other settings. If you have an iPhone, I'd highly recommend this over the previous year's model.

    Yamaha receiver

Amee from Vancouver, WA on 6/2/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am by no means an audiophile, and this was my first system that didn't come all together in a box. I did play with a few before I bought this one though. The setup took me about 2 days because there are just so many settings to play with, but the initial setup was pretty easy and painless. The manual is reasonably well written and easy to follow and the remote, while not super intuitive, is well explained in the manual. The display on the front makes it easy to switch between sources, scenes, DSP modes, etc. without having to use the onscreen display. The on screen display is easy to figure out as well. For a newbie this receiver works well and does the job. I'm still playing with the settings and it has been quite fun. The sound is as you would expect from a Yamaha product and I am quite happy with it. If you decide on this receiver make sure to get the app for the iPhone/iPad or for Android on your phone/tablet. It makes the receiver that much easier to work with.

Pros: Relatively simple to figure out for a novice who's willing to do some reading. Nice remote app. Airplay works pretty well. Menus on the onscreen display are easy to navigate. Doesn't get too hot even after running for many hours. Best of all, while it is easy to figure out it is not dumbed down. Everything is adjustable, and the memory guard saves settings for you which makes it much harder for your kids to reprogram it.

Cons: YPAO needs work. I used it to do the initial settings then played with them to make it work. I can't tell if it was the receiver or the speakers but the treble was painfully high/loud at first.

Network access is a huge plus!

Steve from Lawrence, MA on 5/26/2012

This is a great amp/receiver but the best thing about it is the network/airplay features. If you have an iPhone/iPad/iTouch, you will be smiling when it all "just works"!

Pros: Just works! Sounds great through my speakers

Cons: No Airplay enable/disable or parental controls on the Amp. The MAC address filter doesn't prevent airplay. The iPhone app should allow 100% control over the amp like the hand-held remote does.

    Sweet 5.1 Home Theater Receiver

Jeff from San Diego, CA on 5/20/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had the Yamaha RX-V473 for about a week now and I am really happy with my decision. It was easy to set up with my other components (including HDMI CEC). The Airplay works great as does the iPad AV control app. I can grab my iPad and control the receiver from anywhere in my house. I have enjoyed streaming Pandora from the iPad. The unit has worked flawlessly and sounds great with my Polk TL1 speakers. I setup HDMI CEC so I could control everything with my single TiVo IR remote control. With HDMI CEC, turning on the TV, turns on the receiver. Modifying the TV volume, changes the receiver volume. If I turn off my TV while watching TV, the receiver turns off. In addition, the receiver is smart enough not to turn of the receiver when the TV is shut off and I am not watching TV (like when using Airplay). The receiver plus the iPad control app is an awesome combination. The iPad a really sweet remote control. I hope in the future all functionality can be controlled by the iPad app as the interface is far superior to any on screen interface with the remote.

Pros: iPad AV Control App Airplay Component Inputs

    Cons: Front HDMI input

    Audio Features

5.1ch AV Receiver: The Yamaha RX-V473 AV Receiver is equipped with a 5-channel amplifier rated at 80 watts (into 8-ohms, at 20-20khz, with 0.09% THD, driving 2 channels) which provides high dynamic power with low-impedance drive capability. The RX-V473 also includes a single LFE (mono-subwoofer) output for connecting a powered sub.

Wide-range Frequency Response: The receiver's wide-range frequency response, 10Hz to 100kHz, allows you to enjoy the full fidelity of DVD-Audio and Super-Audio CD players.

192kHz/24-bit Burr Brown DACs: The Yamaha RX-V473 uses high quality, audio-grade Burr-Brown 192kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converters for all channels to maximize sound quality.

Low-Jitter PLL Circuitry: The Yamaha AV receiver utilizes low-jitter PLL circuitry to help optimize sound imaging. The result is a more dynamic sound with greater detail and less distortion.

YPAO Technology: This unit employs the YPAO (Yamaha Parametric Acoustic Optimizer), which automatically adjusts the output of the speakers based on placement, performance, and the room's acoustic characteristics. Yamaha's YPAO system uses a small microphone and sophisticated equalization to automatically set the best sound for any room, no matter where the speakers are. First it checks the speaker connections and phase of each speaker. Then it sends out tones which are captured by the microphone to analyze the room acoustics and sets a variety of parameters; such as the speaker size, the distance of the speakers, and even the volume level; until it achieves the best sound conditions for your room. Using the supplied Optimizer Microphone, YPAO performs the following checks and makes appropriate adjustments to give you the best possible sound from your system:

    • Speaker Wiring: Checks which speakers are connected and the polarity of each.
    • Speaker Size: Checks the frequency response of each speaker and sets the appropriate crossover frequency for each channel.
    • Speaker Distance: Checks the distance of each speaker from the listening position and adjusts the delay of each channel.
    • EQ: Each channel has a parametric equalizer; choose one of three target settings before running the setup.
      • Natural: adjusts all speaker to a natural sound; useful when the flat setting sounds too bright
      • Flat: use when all the speakers in the system have similar sound characteristics
      • Front: EQs the center and rear speakers to sound like the front; useful when your front speakers are better than the others in the system
    • Volume Level: Checks and adjusts the volume level of each speaker.
Note: You can also choose to manually adjust the AV receiver's speaker settings.

Multi-Channel Decoding Formats: The Yamaha RX-V473 supports the following multi-channel (Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic) decoding formats.

Note: Dolby Digital and DTS listening modes can only be selected if your audio source is connected to the AV receiver via a digital audio connection (HDMI, optical, or coaxial). Even though the AV receiver will decode 7.1ch surround sound (via HDMI), it will only output 5.1ch surround, because it lacks Surround Back channel speaker outputs.

Surround Parameters: The Yamaha A/V receiver offers the following Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS NEO:6 audio adjustments.

    • Dolby Pro Logic II Settings: You can adjust the following parameters in Pro Logic II Music modes:
      • Panorama: sends stereo signals to the surround speakers as well as the front speakers for a wraparound effect
      • Dimension: adjusts the soundfield either towards the front or towards the rear of the room
      • Center Width: moves the center channel output completely towards the center speaker or towards the front left and right speakers
    • Center Image (DTS NEO: 6 Music): This parameter adjusts the front left and right channel output relative to the center channel to make the center channel more or less dominant as necessary.

CINEMA DSP Soundfields: Conventional multichannel audio reproduction systems base their sound on Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, using matrix and steering technologies to create surround sound effects. Yamaha CINEMA DSP is much more advanced, actually creating richly realized independent soundfields that envelop you in an unmatched surround sound experience. With dialogue, music and effects ideally located in these separate soundfields, you will hear sound with accurate placement, smooth movement, exceptional clarity and richness, and realistic presence. It will seem as if the walls of your room have disappeared and you are in the middle of your own immense theater. The AV receiver offers 17 CINEMA DSP programs for movies, music, and games.

    • Movie Soundfields: Standard, Spectacle, Sci-Fi, Adventure, Drama, Mono Movie
    • Entertainment Soundfields: Sports, Action Game, Role Playing Game, Music Video, Recital/Opera
    • Music Soundfields: Hall Munich, Hall in Vienna, Chamber, Cellar club, The Roxy Theater, The Bottom Line, 7ch Stereo

Note: You can change the receiver's CINEMA DSP effect level (level of the soundfield effect to be added). You can adjust the level of the soundfield effect from -6 dB to +3 dB.

CINEMA DSP Modes: The Yamaha RX-V473 A/V receiver offers three proprietary Yamaha CINEMA modes so you can enjoy your movies and music even more in your home; regardless if you are using Presence Speakers, only have a two-channel speaker system, or listening through headphones.

    • CINEMA DSP 3D: The actually measured soundfield data in recorded soundtracks contain the information of the height of the sound images. CINEMA DSP 3D mode achieves the reproduction of the accurate height of theses sound images so that it can create the accurate and intensive stereoscopic soundfield in your listening room. CINEMA DSP 3D does this by using the receiver's Presence (height) Speakers.
    • Virtual CINEMA DSP: Virtual CINEMA DSP is an algorithm that allows you to enjoy DSP soundfield surround effects while using a minimal two-speaker system. Virtual CINEMA DSP lets you enjoy the effects of CINEMA DSP surround sound without using surround speakers (handy for use in custom installations where some rooms don't have surround speakers). It can be used with the front/center/presence speakers or even with just the two front left and right speakers. This unit will switch to virtual CINEMA DSP mode automatically when surround speakers are unavailable.
    • SILENT CINEMA: SILENT CINEMA makes it possible to hear large-scale surround sound through ordinary headphones. This is a variation of CINEMA DSP technology that Yamaha developed to let you listen in private to movies and other multi-channel sources for hours without listening fatigue.

Compressed Music Enhancer: Yamaha employs sophisticated digital signal processing with exclusive algorithms to enable playback that improves the performance of compressed music formats, including MP3, WMA, and AAC. With the Compressed Music Enhancer, highs and especially lows are richer and smoother, bringing music back to life to be as close to the original as possible.

Adaptive DRC: Adaptive DRC (Dynamic Range Control) adjusts the dynamic range in relation to the volume, useful at low volume.

Dynamic Range: The amount of dynamic range compression applied to bitstream signals is adjustable; Min/Auto is suitable for low volume listening, Standard is typical for home use, and Max doesn't compress the dynamic range at all.

Bass Management: The Yamaha RX-V473 A/V receiver provides the following Bass Management settings.

    • Bass & Treble: You can adjust the balance of the high-frequency range (Treble) and low-frequency range (Bass) of sounds output from the receiver' front left and right speakers to obtain a desired tone. You can independently adjust the bass (50Hz) and treble (20kHz) from -6dB to +6dB in 0.5 dB increments. The tone control of the speakers or headphones can be set separately.
    • Extra Bass: You can select whether to play front channel low-frequencies through either of the front speaker or the subwoofer, or through both the subwoofer and front speakers.
    • Subwoofer Trim: The Subwoofer Trim control enhances the low frequencies by avoiding overlap with the front speaker output. This will result in a cleaner, more focused sound stage while providing a seamless frequency response. When subwoofer frequency overlap occurs in conventional systems, the overall sound is "pushed" toward the subwoofer. Subwoofer Trim takes care of this by separating the low subwoofer frequencies cleanly, thus stabilizing the front stage while providing a well-balanced enhanced bass sound.

Volume Setup: The Yamaha RX-V473 allows you to customize the receiver's volume levels.

    • Max Volume Adjustment: Use this feature to set the receiver's maximum volume level. This feature is useful to avoid turning the volume too loud by mistake. You can set the Max Volume from -30 dB to +15 dB in 5 dB steps, or to +16.5 dB (full volume range is -80 dB to +16.5 dB).
    • Initial Volume Setting: Use this feature to set the volume level when the power is turned on. You can choose between Off (same as the volume when the unit was turned off), Mute, and -80 dB to + 16.5 dB in increments of 0.5 dB.
    • Volume Trim: Use this feature to adjust the volume level of each input. This is useful to balance the level of each input to avoid sudden changes in volume when switching between input sources. The range is from -6 dB to +6 dB in 0.5 dB increments.

Audio Inputs/Outputs: The Yamaha RX-V473 offers a variety of analog and digital audio inputs/outputs.

    • Digital Inputs: The Yamaha AV receiver is equipped with two optical digital inputs (AV-1/AV-4) and two coaxial digital inputs (AV-2/AV-3).
    • Speaker Terminals: The receiver has binding post terminals for all the speaker outputs. The binding posts can accept bare wire, pin connectors, and single banana plugs. The terminals are spaced too far apart for dual banana plugs and a collar surrounding them prevents the use of spade connectors. You can select 8 ohms or 6 ohms in the menu depending on your speaker application. The amplifier supports 4- to 8-ohm Front speakers, and 6- to 8-ohm Center and Surround speakers.
    • Headphone Jack: The Yamaha RX-V473 is equipped with a front-panel 1/4" headphone jack for connecting a set of headphone, so you can listen to your music privately. Connecting a set of headphones automatically mutes the receiver's speaker outputs.  Sound effects applied during playback can also be heard through the headphones.

    Video Features

HDMI (v.1.4): 1080p HDMI (v.1.4) with 3D and Audio Return Channel (4 In/1 Out) deliver crystal-clear, all-digital audio and video via a single cable. HDMI dramatically simplifies cabling and helps provide you with the highest-quality home theater experience. HDMI can provide an interface between most audio/video sources, such as a set-top box, Blu-ray player, DVD player, or A/V receiver and a video monitor, such as a High Definition Television (HDTV), over a single cable. The AV receiver's HDMI jacks can be used for 2-channel and multi-channel linear PCM (up to 8-channel) and Bitstream (Dolby Digital, DTS, etc) digital audio formats. The HDMI 1.4 jacks also support 1080p and 4K video signals; as well as Deep Color (30/36 bit), x.v.Color, 24 Hz refresh rates, and auto Lip-Sync compensation.

4K Pass Through: 4K Pass Through allows the Yamaha RX-V473 to receive super high-definition resolution video and pass the video signal to a 4K compatible TV or display monitor. This ensures compatibility with the latest super high resolution video formats.

3D Ready: The Yamaha RX-V473 AV receiver supports 3D HDMI pass-through from connected 3D-compatible Blu-ray, games and broadcast devices to 3D-compatible HDTVs (all 3D components must be connected via HDMI). 3D provides a more engaging audio and video consumer experience. Note that special eyewear may be required for viewing 3D content

ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature allows audio to be sent from your compatible HDTV to your receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your HDTV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television.

HDMI Standby Through Mode: When the RX-V473 is in standby mode (power off), the Standby Through feature allows HDMI source signals to pass through the receiver to the TV. The HDMI input can be changed using the remote control. So, there's not need to turn on the A/V receiver in order to switch HDMI sources.

x.v.Color: The AV receiver supports x.v.Color, offering a wider color range than the current broadcast standard. For the x.v.Color feature to be useful, the entire video production chain must be compatible (camera-editing-format-player-display).

Deep Color: The Yamaha receiver also supports Deep Color which allows the color depth of video signals passing through HDMI to be raised. The number of colors that could be expressed by 1 pixel was 24 bits (16,777,216 colors) with a standard HDMI jack. However, the number of colors which can be expressed by 1 pixel is 36 bits with a Deep Color enabled HDMI jack. Since the gradation of the depth of a color can be expressed more finely with more bits, continuous color changes can be more smoothly expressed.  For the Deep Color feature to be useful, the entire video production chain must be compatible (camera-editing-format-player-display).

Lip-sync: This function adjusts the delay between audio and video output. You can do this manually or have the receiver set the Lip-sync function automatically.

    • Auto: When connected to a TV via HDMI, automatically adjusts audio output timing (0-250ms) if the TV supports an automatic lip-sync function.
    • Manually: You can manually delay the sound output up to 250ms to synchronize it with the video image.

HDTV-compatible Component Video: The RX-V473 offers two component video inputs and a component video monitor output. These inputs and output have a frequency response of 5 Hz to 60 MHz and will pass High Definition video sources up to 1080p.

Front Panel AV Input: The front panel's Video Aux input consists of a composite video input, and a 3.5mm stereo minijack input.

Background Video: The Background Video feature allows you to watch a video source while listening to a different audio source. With the RX-V473, you can select any video input, and listen to AM/FM radio or network source at the same time.

    Network & Tuner Functions
