The ultra-nimble Yamaha MusicCast WX-010 wireless speaker can fit in practically any room. (You'll just need an AC outlet nearby.)
Here's a neat wireless speaker that can stand on its own but really plays well with others. The Yamaha MusicCast WX-010 speaker takes up little space on your nightstand, desk, or kitchen counter, and it delivers a surprising amount of sound. And if you own a Yamaha receiver or sound bar with MusicCast, you'll really want to take notice. This mighty mite works together with other MusicCast speakers and components for a whole-house music system. Using your phone or tablet, you can send different songs to different rooms, or thump the same playlist throughout the house.
I've tried most of the multi-room music services or platforms, and I have come to a conclusion. As much as I dig good sound, it's often the quality of the mobile app that makes or breaks your experience. Yamaha nailed it with their free MusicCast app, available for Apple® and Android™. The intuitive layout and user-friendly graphics make all the controls easy to find at a glance. Select rooms, pick songs, adjust volume — it's all right there on your phone or tablet's screen. You can even customize the menu using your own images, giving the app a personalized, next-gen feel.
MusicCast also gives you lots of music sources to choose from. Access your personal digital music library, internet radio, and popular streaming services. There's support for Pandora® and SiriusXM. If you're a Spotify® Premium subscriber, Spotify Connect lets you access all your favorite albums and playlists. MusicCast even supports high-resolution audio formats.
Control music in every room with the intuitive MusicCast app.
Discover a new band on SoundCloud? Find a sick DJ set on Mixcloud? A classic music video on YouTube™? Use Bluetooth to stream sound from your phone through the MusicCast system — no restrictions! You can also send audio from the WX-010 speaker to other Bluetooth-enabled hardware. That means you can play MusicCast sound through portable speakers and wireless headphones.
Yamaha home theater receivers - Play MusicCast through your stereo and send sound from connected sources like TV, CD, or vinyl to other MusicCast components.
Yamaha sound bars - Space-saving home theater solutions that offer immersive TV sound and MusicCast wireless music.
Wireless speakers and components - Add MusicCast to other rooms or existing speakers using these assorted speakers and amps.

This little guy did exactly what I needed. I needed outdoor speaker for when we dined on our deck. Just plugged it in and linked it to my receiver and what ever was playing played on that speaker as well. I also just use the wifi for net radio. Worked great right out of the box.
Pros: easy to use, easy set up, sounds great, very portable
Cons: none for my use
Speaker works great, better yet they helped me set it up and were great!
A fair speaker that linked easily to the MusicCast receiver. I would give it 5 stars if I could adjust the bass, midrange, and treble to balance in the room where I have the speaker.
Pros: compact with easy set-up
Cons: lacks ability to adjust sound to the room
Room filling sound from a small speaker
Awesome speaker! I got 2 for my bedroom and they work great. Easy to pair and link them. They have great sound when the volume is low for sleeping and loud when u need them to be. I have recently starting useing Crutchfield, last 6 months online. It's like going back to your favorite stereo store and I don't mean a the other retailers. They know their stuff ask all the right questions and give you awesome recommendations. Everything they suggest has exceeded my expectations. Why did I wait so long??
I got two and am using the stereo feature. Easy to set-up, great documentation on the web site. No need for the experts at Cruchfield, way too easy. They sound great for a den sized room for such a small footprint. I can use them with the Musicast app or connect via Bluetooth. Very cost effective when I purchased these on sale.
Pros: Easy to set-up. Sounds great for a den or bedroom . Use individually for added zones or two in stereo. Low cost, (when on sale). Small footprint.
Bought two of these to go with our YSP-5600 soundbar and two Yamaha MusicCast WX-030. Easy to setup and pretty decent sound from such a small package. Great deal when on sale.
Pros: Good sound, compact design and easy setup.
Cons: Documentation could be better.
Is there a rating higher than 5 stars? Seriously, this is a wonderfully fun set of speakers. We already owned the Yamaha RS-A2060 receiver, which had been zoned (via hardwire) to 2 additional zones. I ordered two of these WX-010 speakers in order to add another wireless zone to our bedroom. As an integrated system, they 1) sound great!! Really amazing sound from two small speakers. 2) They link to our receiver via our WiFi network, working seamlesly as another zone from our receiver. 3) As a "Smart" speaker, they also play independently, Bluetoothing from my Ipad, or playing music via Spotify, Pandora etc accessed from the speaker software and the Musicast app. 4) The whole system is easy to control with the Yamaha Musicast app from our personal devices. With a quick learning curve, the app is really fun and easy to use. Apparently Yamaha is going to be updating the firmware to integrate with Amazon Alexa, which will make the speakers even easier to operate. My only complaint is I feel more documentation is needed from Yamaha for anything beyond basic setup. It took a little research to figure out how the link function works (to integrate with our receiver), how to pair the speakers for stereo effect, and to learn the subtleties of their Musicast App. Not hard to figure out with a little help from the internet, but it would have been nice to have the information at my fingertips at setup. I am VERY happy with these speakers!
Pros: Functionality. Yamaha seems to have thought of everything. Works especially well integrated with our Yamaha Receiver. Using a WiFi connection is so much nicer than dealing with Bluetooth connections.
Cons: A lack of accompanying documentation for anything beyond very basic setup.
Took 4 tries to establish the connection. Now works great, sounds good. I have the bigger Yamaha MusicCast inside the house. Using the cheaper smaller one in the garage & patio.
Pros: Price, size, appearance
Cons: Set up
Linked two together in stereo mode to create a wireless system for our great room. Very simple to set up. Excellent sound.
I purchased four of these speakers to interface with a Yamaha RN303. The speakers sound great (I am not an audiophile) and fill my rooms as desired. They fit just about anywhere. The instructions are minimal and I had a hassle setting them up. It took a long time and required multiple tries for each speaker. I did get them all working with the app and amp and once I did they were great. I would buy them again without hesitation but would have really liked the setup to be more straight forward. Just give yourself extra time to setup.
Pros: sound and size
Horrible!! I want something to hook up to a receiver and play music, not to play ring around the rosey with some app!! Collosal pain in the butt setting up and wasn't told it has to be operated thru the app only! Totally worthless unless you are some geeky millennial!
Set up is too complicated. Tried four times; nothing happened
Cons:Crutchfield response on 12/26/2017 Larry, we're sorry you're having issues setting up your speaker. Whenever you encounter a problem with anything you purchase from Crutchfield, please contact our Tech Support team. They can help you solve the problem or set up a return within 60 days of purchase. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
This is a great little speaker. It is small, has great sound, and is easy to get connected. I initially tried it by streaming digital music from my computer to my receiver to the speakers. I was using the musiccast app (free) for control and it did a reasonable job. I own the Roon software ($$$) and I was able to select tracks, albums, etc on computer in basically the same way I use for my main system. Eventually I figured out that I could link the computer (and FLAC files) directly to the musiccast speakers without going through the receiver using Roon. This unexpected compatibility is really nice and I could not be more pleased with my purchase of a couple of sale priced WX-010s.
Pros: Small size Great sound for size Really flexible/compatible with other network apps
I purchased two of these. Set up the first one no problem>As I set up the second it failed and knocked the first one out as well. After a tech call to Crutchfield both are running great and sound good! Without Crutchfield this would have been a return and i would have thrown it the towel on having wireless sound throughout my home. Thank you Crutchfield!!!
Pros: Good sound, compact design!
Cons: Yamaha tech support is a joke, Always buy from Crutchfield,ALWAYS!!!
Easy way to put music in your workshop, patio or porch
I have two of these speakers in our house. One is in our son's room so we can stream audiobooks as he falls asleep. Yes, we also read him books....we're not that bad of parents. However, it has been nice for him to fall asleep to an audiobook. Our other speaker is in the kitchen. These speakers paired with iTunes, Apple Airplay, and also a Yamaha receiver does a very nice job of filling the house with music on the kid's dreaded cleaning day. When we first got the speakers they were dropping connection, but the latest firmware update seems to have resolved that issue. I would recommend them because their sound is incredible considering they are playing over WIFI and they are not overly expensive. I would rate these as a great bang for the buck to get some sweet background noise playing through the house.
Pros: - easy setup - sound good - easily get music throughout the house without running wire - you can set them up to play stereo with Yamaha app - the Yamaha app is like wine: better with age without any hangover consequences
Cons: - you still have to buy them - every now and again I have to reset the speaker. It really is hard to take my phone out, open Yamaha music cast, turn the speaker off and then on. I think it took like a minute out of my life last week. (That is why 4 stars and not 5.)
For the company that designed the first digital mixer and pretty much invented DSP, this is a sad product. Keep in mind this is almost identical in volume to Sonos Play 1. The sound, in contrast, is mediocre and maybe becomes comparable on very good recordings. (have both in the same room) Yamaha needs to work on the dynamic DSP to keep the bass audible at any volume just like Play 1 does. This holiday sale seems to be the right value not just for Yamaha but also should be for the Bose Soutouch 10, Heos 1 and the likes. All of these companies counted on name recognition rather than the product quality. Sonos is the only one who built the custom drivers for their units along with dual d-class amplification. It only becomes apparent when you try them all.
Pros: Airplay, Bluetooth, musiccast ecosystem
Cons: Sound, heat, app issues on any device almost every day for the last 2 years. FABRIC!? Alarm. Streaming Services. Airplay out of sync with video.
Solid little speaker. Works well with the rest of my MusicCast system. Plenty of bass (too much out of the box). Need to adjust the equalizer in the MusicCast app to get the best sound.
Pros: Plenty of bass. Works well with other MusicCast devices.
Cons: No AirPlay2 so have to get creative if streaming Apple Music to multiple MusicCast devices.
There should be two categories for reviewing this product. One for speaker quality; the other for its integration with MusicCast. The speaker lives up to its part. The speaker will be used as a stand alone item in my kitchen. For a single speaker, the sound is rich and powerful. It easily fills the room. The bass can be overpowering . The major downfall of the speaker is MusicCast. Yamaha's Musicast software and connectivity issue lead to a mediocre rating. Connection took multiple attempts. Sometimes the linkage of the speaker to a Yamaha RX V-481 receiver works. Other times it does not. While Yamaha says that Musicast offers Airplay connectivity, Yamaha does not tell you that Apple does not permit streaming from one device to another. So if I use Airplay to connect to the receiver, Apple blocks sending a signal to the wireless speaker. Streaming music from Amazon Music remains an issue. To do so, I needed to open the Amazon Music app, send a Bluetooth signal to the Yamaha receiver and then use the Musicast app to send signals to my wired speakers and a wireless signal to the WX-010. It typically takes 2-3 and sometimes 4 attempts to get everything working. Hopefully the upcoming Alexa-Musicast integration will permit seamless operation of the system. Separately, mounting options are limited. There is a single 1/4-20 screw mount. To mount on a wall a special mount with a screw adapter is needed. Other options for mounting would enhance the speaker.
Pros: Rich sound, multiple choices for connecting
Cons: Musicast Connectivity Issues Lousy, quirky App
I loved my first one so much I bought a second one. I will more than likely buy a third and thinking about adding the Yamaha sound bar and subwoofer later down the road too. These speakers sound great and you can't beat the price.
Pros: Great sound, compact, easy to use. Comparable to Bose.
Cons: MusicCast app takes some getting use too.
Great sound and the easiest installation. With Musiccsat you can easily integrate with other Yamaha models to build a home based music layout.
Pros: Great for an office, bathroom or kitchen sound
Cons: Power cable is too long and hard to hide. Would be nice to have a 1 or 2 feet cable.
Works well with a (relatively) new Yamaha N-402 receiver and MusicCast system. Set-up was OK... the challenge is the less-than-user-friendly MusicCast app. Do things exactly as outlined in instructions and you will prevail for the set-up. I'm still fiddling with the daily operation. The speaker itself... sounds quite fine in a medium-sized office space. Just as expected. The small size fits well next to a table top printer. Yes, the control buttons on top are not the easiest to see. No trouble with wi-fi connection... but then it sits about 30 feet away from the router. I can hear a quite small lag (probably less than a second, but audible) when listening to the same station playing on main speakers that are one room away. Simple solution... close the office door. A welcome addition to the app... the ability to move all Internet radio selections made for one room to another without having to search and enter each one again. Surely Yamaha folk can add this while keeping ability to add different stations if wanted.
Pros: Size, sound, design.
Cons: Operation on MusicCast app... not the fault of the speaker. Wee small control buttons.
Easy set up, great sound. I plan on buying 2 more!
Pros: Small footprint, big sound
so much great sound from such a small size. you have to be realistic with the expectations from this size (i have the 030 and a soundbar). but love the range and the response of the small 010 speaker
Easy to set up. But musiccast tends to drop out once in a while. I'm still tweaking the system.
Perfect for moving from one location to another as needed. Simple tasteful appearance - fits in well in various settings. Easy to set up and operate with MusicCast app. I am impressed with it's ability to connect with my other systems.
Pros: Small footprint Easy to set up and use Good sound
Cons: Power cord is a bit heavy.
Having just gotten Yamaha's N-R602 receiver, I was keen to explore a MusicCast solution for our patio dining area. The WX-010 is our first extension speaker. It works great and sounds just fine for background cover. The small footprint is a dream. While we recognize it is early days for MusicCast, Yamaha or someone should get a weather resistant wireless speaker to market, and even a rechargeable battery version (ala Bose) to make it truly portable and flexible. Outdoor electrical outlets are rare at our "Palace"... As others have pointed out, the MusicCast app is borderline appallingly complex and often illogical. But it does work like a charm once you patiently set it all up. We are pleased with this speaker and the new totally connected receiver...
Pros: Sound reproduction is good, fits in a small spot out of the way, MusicCast interface
Cons: Tough set-up, Not weather friendly, needs power outlet-portability suffers
As long as you a fully aware of what you're buying, the WX-010 is great. It has a very small footprint (which I needed) and was very easy to hook up to my existing Yamaha MusicCast (wireless) network using the Yamaha mobile app . . . . just follow the instructions, don't try to wing it. The WX-010 sound quality is good for a small, bookshelf-sized speaker. It works very nicely for ambient or background music in my living room - providing just enough volume and clarity to be heard/enjoyed but not so intrusive that it overpowers the room conversations. (I actually have another set of Definitive Tech speakers when I want to seriously listen to music and overpower the room). The WX-010 lacks the bass thump and clarity of its sister bookshelf speaker, the WX-030, so if you've got the room for a slightly larger speaker, I would recommend the WX-030 over the WX-010. The 030 is a few dollars more but worth it for the improved sound quality. To be clear, I got exactly what I wanted with my WX-010 so that's why the 5 star rating.
Me gustó mucho , buen precio , buena calidad de sonido y fácil conectividad. I liked it a lot; good price, good quality sound and easy installation.
Pros: Fácil conectividad Easy connectivity
Cons: Falta base para la pared Base missing for wallCrutchfield response on 4/26/2017 Translation provided by Crutchfield's International Sales & Support team.
Bigger sound than I expected from a small box. Vary satisfying and versatile. This is my second MusicCast piece after the WXC-50. They play well together and apart.
The speaker itself has a nice rich sound, but, the MusicCast app that drives them is very very difficult to maneuver through.
For such little speakers, wonderful, rich, sound--not tinny at all! Setting up was a breeze and enabling ONE speaker is easy as well However, the MusicCast app will test your frustration level to the absolute max!!!! Getting the receiver to connect to Wi-Fi takes about 5 times, even when standing inches away, getting them the speakers to link together is a joke and navigating the app itself is another foray into frustration Hell. Nevertheless, once the blood pressure subsides, the system works really well
Pros: Great sound, little, portable, inconspicuous
Cons: App needs some really SERIOUS work App hard to navigate System takes multiple times to connect to Wi-Fi
This speaker sounds great. I have it on my bedroom night table. I listen every morning and sometimes at night. connecting to my Yamaha receiver was a breeze. It's the perfect size as well. My only complaint would be that it needs a rechargeable battery.
Pros: Great sound Easy setup
Cons: Needs battery power
Paired them and they sounded great
**SO** much more than I expected. I thought this was just going to be a remote speaker - like Sonos - that connected to my receiver. Not only can I connect to my Yamaha receiver, I can stream Pandora, radio, and more. Setup was a little challenging. I downloaded the app to my Android cell phone but for some reason the unit just wouldn't connect to the network where the WiFi hub was literally 3 feet away. I tried the app on my iPad and everything worked fine. Not all of the settings are intuitive. Thank goodness for Google and YouTube.
Pros: Easy to use app Lots of features Compact and attractive Great sound
Cons: Android app would not connect unit to WiFi network Buttons are not tactile
SEEMS GREAT CANNOT CONNECT WIRELESSELY YET A LITTLE DIFFICULT BUT WILL FIGURE IT OUT
Pros: NICE PRODUCT
Got one of these to expand on our MusicCast system. This was very easy to add on and the overall sound is so much better than many of the other systems on the market. I spent some time in my local retailer and was very disappointed with the options so the Yamaha system was interesting to me. I have been very happy with the result.
Pros: Sound quality Ease of setup
Cons: More expensive than competitors Bass a little muddy
I love this speaker. I have it in the kitchen, garage, or any where I plan to be working for the day. The sound is great for such a small speaker. The 2x baffles give it a lot of base, which I found a little muddy. The app has an equalizer, so a tweak down on the base and up on the treble was more to my liking. Stream from phone audio library, favorite radio station via net radio, etc.
Pros: Great sound Nice app Small foot print Nice speaker design
I own a Yamaha RX-A550 receiver and wanted to be able to listen to my music in my kitchen as well as the den. The initial installation seemed easy enough (make sure to use the MUSICCAST app and not the YAMAHA AV-CONTROLLER app... oops). For whatever reason my Moto G3 phone was hanging up on the "Acquiring Device IP Address..." step and would never connect. After a few days of this I called Crutchfield tech support. He suggested I use a different device. Maybe my phone had security issues with connecting to local unsecure wifi sources (the speaker). I tried my wife's Samsung tablet running an older version of Android (4.*.* instead of 6.0) and everything worked perfectly. Once the speaker was hooked up to my home wifi I was able to see it with my original phone and get my den and kitchen running all at the same time. Sweet! It was a thrill listening to Pandora on my home stereo and walk in to the kitchen to hear a perfectly synced song playing throughout. Unfortunately, when I tried playing some vinyl the synced signal was no more. There was a noticeable lag between the main receiver and the WX-010. Not sure if this is due to the record player being an analog input or what but it's a huge bummer. I tried adjusting the "sync" settings to no avail. I also changed the streaming settings from "normal" to "speed" but this setting is intended for wired connections so the signal became glitchy. Hopefully an update fixes this... I'll update this review if things change.
Pros: - Easy to set up (with the right device) - App is very intuitive - Perfectly synced audio throughout house using digital source (Pandora, etc.) - Looks great - Good sound quality - Crutchfield Tech Support was Awesome.
Cons: - My phone couldn't connect to device for original setup (Moto G3). Used a Samsung tablet, set up the speaker, then was able to see and control with Moto G3 - Noticeable audio lag when playing record player through audio input of Yamaha Adventage RX-A550 and streaming to speaker in another room

I was planning on buying one of the larger Yamaha wireless speakers, but the sale price, free shipping, and positive reviews on this unit changed my mind. Also, I can get 2 of these for the price of one of the WX-030s made this a no brainer. [ Allan Dec 15, 2017 ]

Using the Yamaha MusicCast system, so I need Yamaha wireless speakers. The WX-010 offers a smaller footprint than the larger WX-030 from Yamaha, but the speakers are almost identical. Hoping to pair two in stereo for my master BR. Looking forward to expanding the music in my home! [ Sean Dec 14, 2016 ]
My spouse wanted Yamaha for his Christmas gift. So, it took some time to locate this brand. So I am very glad I found some Yamaha Wireless Bluetooth speakers for him. Thank you for your wide selection in great top of the line speakers. [ Tanja Dec 10, 2016 ]

I have a Yamaha TSR-5810 that I recently purchased and feel that the older wired speakers that I have don't sound clear. IT seems to make sense to buy the yamaha speakers to work with the new receiver. If there is another recommendation let me know. [ Nathan Dec 28, 2017 ]

I don't think it will. Our research department does not list any of our "figure 8" power cables as working with this speaker. I wish I had different news for you there. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101 [ Paul Nov 19, 2016 ] Staff
Yes, the MusicCast app will let you select which other musiccast devices to play simultaneously or separate. Look for the 'Link' feature. [ Douglas May 25, 2017 ]
Hi Jeff, Yes, you can stream music to other devices connected to the amp. I have the RX-A750 from Yamaha. I can play Pandora on the remote speaker (from Yamaha) and link the receiver or other devices - making theWX-10 the master. Hope this helps! PJ [ PJ May 25, 2017 ]
According to their website, they should, and do it beautifully. However, be aware that there is a very STEEP, and very frustrating learning curve to get them set up. The MusicCast App is a "bear" and the directions are near worthless! However, the Crutchfield Tech support, which we were NOT told about, is superb! We have 3 of these and the sound is awesome--very "seamless". The speakers might be little, but not at all tinny. Get past that learning curve and I think you will be quite pleased. Hope this helps!
