Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Great sound I love it.
Pros: small footprint sounds great lots of bass
Yamaha YAS-207 - DTS Virtual:X (available with upcoming firmware update) offers spacious, heightened surround sound.
Crutchfield: What is DTS Virtual: X
From Yamaha: YAS-207, soundbar w.wireless subwoofer
Cutting-edge DTS Virtual:X processing (available with firmware update) simulates speakers all around you — even overhead.
Talk about an upgrade to your TV's tiny built-in speakers. The Yamaha YAS-207 is the first sound bar that's ready for DTS Virtual:X — a new technology that simulates three-dimensional surround sound for your movies, shows, and sports. In other words? This bar and sub combo will make it sound like you have speakers around you, and even above you.
This processing just recently became available (via a firmware update from Yamaha), but we got an in-house preview from DTS. I tested out Virtual:X on an episode of Game of Thrones and was blown away by the massive, detailed sound field. And while it works best with shows and movies mixed for DTS:X® or Dolby Atmos®, the cool thing is that it will enhance any other content, too.
Even with the DTS Virtual:X processing turned off, the YAS-207 adds excitement to your TV watching. And it doesn't take up a lot of space. The bar can be wall-mounted or placed below your TV on a stand or table. Six built-in drivers dish out wide-open sound, while the Clear Voice feature ensures dialogue is easy to understand.
Many sound bars simulate Dolby Atmos or DTS:X by bouncing sound off your walls and ceiling. That's not what's happening here. The drivers inside the YAS-207 sound bar are slightly angled, but they're placed more or less where you'd expect to find them in two-channel bar. There are no upward-firing drivers. Instead, DTS Virtual:X almost completely relies on digital sound processing.
DTS uses what they call "spatial audio techniques" to — my word here — "trick" you into thinking you're hearing sound all around you. Incredibly sophisticated audio delays and adjustments create a larger, wider soundstage. That includes overhead atmospheric effects like leaves rustling on a tall tree or birds chirping above.
Read my article "What is DTS Virtual:X?" for more details
Low-profile design for a clean TV setup (Sub must be connected to an AC outlet).
The YAS-207's subwoofer communicates wirelessly with the bar to give you more placement options. It's also pretty slim, so you might be able to stick it right next to your TV setup. (You'll need to connect it to an AC outlet.) This powerful sub brings the low-end thunder to round out the home theater experience.
Even though the Yamaha YAS-207 includes such advanced sound processing, it's still straightforward to set up. You can connect the bar directly to your TV with the included digital optical cable. Or you can use the YAS-207's HDMI input and output — both are compatible with 4K TVs and video sources with high dynamic range (HDR).
You can control the sound bar with the included remote or Yamaha's free smartphone app for Apple® or Android™. There are five listening modes — Music, TV Program, Movie, Sports, and Game — to help tailor the sound to what you're watching. And built-in Bluetooth® lets you play music wirelessly from your phone through the sound bar's powerful drivers.
Great sound I love it.

Average Customer Review(s):
Great sound I love it.
Pros: small footprint sounds great lots of bass
Nice clear sound. Installation easy. Just what I hoped it would be
Pros: Good sound. Good price. Quality excellent
Cons: Could not find screws to mount on wall in box
Great sound. Easy to install. The phone apps is a great feature.
Pros: Lots of features to fine tune the sound. The smart phone app is a great bonus.
Cons: The wall mounting is easy but the HDMI cables want to push the speaker off the simple bolt hooks. For a more finished look, I suggest a sound bar wall bracket.
The sound s very natural and room filling , I have it set up in my bedroom that is 20x14 . Couldn't be happier it replaced a Bose solo 5 that was nice for voice but had no punch to it .Easy right out of the box and Yamaha delivered on the DTX 10 . Best bang for the bucks for sure
Pros: Sound is room filling in my bedroom
Cons: None yet
I've been dragged kicking and screaming into the world of sound bars and the Yamaha YAS-207 seems to be the answer to my problems. I wouldn't call myself an audiophile, but I do appreciate good sound. At the same time I'm a minimalist and don't like a lot of clutter. I'm old school and have an older (but high quality) Panasonic HD Plasma TV which has been set up as 5.1 through an older (but high quality) Yamaha receiver, Martin Logan towers in the front, Klipsch bookshelf in the back, Klipsch center speaker and Martin Logan powered subwoofer. In addition to the receiver I have a cd player, blu-ray player and cable box. This surround system worked well when I had a separate family/TV room and formal living room, but I've moved to a new house with a "great room". I wanted to clean it up and get an entertainment center to house all of it. I gave up pretty quickly on being able to get something to enclose the towers. Even after that I couldn't find a good piece of furniture to enclose the TV, components, center speaker and sub unless I had something custom built to the tune of $10,000. The tail seemed to be wagging the dog so I started looking into a soundbar and wireless powered subwoofer. The YAS-207 was priced right, hooked up easily and the sound (although not nearly as good as the old system) is perfectly fine for TV. It solved my clutter problems and fits into a standard entertainment center.
Pros: Streamlined, easy to set up, price, wireless sub, works well with bluetooth
Cons: Good sound, but not as good as high end speakers through a receiver
I only have experience with 2 sound bars, this one and a reconditioned Samsung J250. Typical audiophile I wanted to improve my system, read reviews, and decided that this Yamaha would do what I wanted (clarity, attractive, sub woofer for a little more fullness). This unit is no where near what the J250 produced, I have yet to hear in fullness from the sub, unless I put my ear right down on the speaker and the it's just a boom. I guess Clarity needs a definition and this Yamaha doesn't come near to the Samsung. You are always going to take a chance when acquiring something you don't get to listen to before purchase, my fault for not trying to listen to it prior to purchase. It is attractive consequently a 2 instead of a 1.
The YAS-207 is an excellent sound bar with a full sound, including a great bass complement. The Crutchfield staff were extremely helpful in helping me navigate through the many soundbar products that are offered. Based on my needs and usage the Yamaha was the perfect fit. It was easy to connect to the TV and has great bluetooth capabilities. The price was great and I cannot be more happier based on my limited budget. I strongly recommend this soundbar the quality of sound is awesome!
I replaced a JBL Cinema Base that failed to recognize its remote, evidently a common problem.Aftet some extensive research. I was very careful in the next selection since I wanted to take advantage of multiple formats with my Sony 3D 4K TV, 4K Sony DVD player and Apple TV. I settled on the Yamaha YAS-207 for style, features and reviews. Easy set up, firmware upgrade was quick and well documented. Adding the upgrade to take advantage of the DTS Virtual:X makes a significant difference to the sound experience. I had to experiment with positioning the wireless sub so that the sound was balanced. I found a nice spot where it's balanced out and still out of the way. The Clear Voice feature improves dialogue for the news and talk shows. Overall it's a great buy and Crutchfield's reviews, service and sales processe are unmatched,
Pros: Sound, style, features.
Cons: None do far
Unit was easy to install using the HDMI pass-through feature. The sound quality is great. Having a separate volume control for the woofer is nice for music. The clear voice feature is great for hearing impared listeners like me. My only negative is the display. The indicator lights can only be seen when you stand next to the unit.
Pros: Ease of installation, controls, sound quality
WOW! What a sound bar. It was so easy to set up and sounds great. Would highly recommend
Pros: Good sound bar for the price
Cons: Firmware needs to be uploaded
for the price the sound is great and the set up was easy
Easy set up. Ok, sound.
Excellent performance to price value
Connecting to TV via bluetooth caused serious lag so the voices didn't match mouth moments. Connecting via optical was better but then the sound was not that good. The sub is connected over bluetooth so theres lag there no mater what. That probably happens to all wireless connected systems. Sent this one back and will get a wired system soon. **The reviews for over 50% stated the sound was great, seriously need to compare it to a real system or get their hearing checked. 5 stars for Crutchfield. They understood my issues and made the return easy, defiantly shopping here more.
Pros: Looks nice No wires to sub Easy setup
Cons: Poor sound quality Lag on sub all the time Lag in front speaker when connected over BT to TV
Amazing sound and really easy installation -- even wall-mounted. Love that it has ARC capabilities -- I'm able to use my television's remote to control the volume level of this soundbar. Wireless subwoofer is perfectly-sized and sounds great. And having the ability to control the bass level via the included remote is really nice.
Absolutely great sound for the price. Wireless sub lets you find exactly the right placement for your room.
This sound bar was all you said it would be in your sound bar rating article. I am very pleased with the Yamaha YAS 207 sound bar. The sound is fantastic! The setup was easy with straight forward installation instructions. The Bluetooth worked extremely well with my I-phone. Sound bars make tv watching more like theatre viewing especially with 65 inch screens or larger! Yamaha sound reproduction lived up to its expectations. Very pleased with product and service from Crutchfield's. Delivery arrived on schedule in god condition.
Pros: Sound reproduction Ease of use Price
I would highly recommend this sound bar to anyone who has cost and/or space constraints but is still looking for respectable home audio (perfect for my 500 sq ft. apartment). Set up is easy, and the controls/connectivity are very user-friendly. The sound is much bigger than you'd expect from the product and has the clarity you expect from Yamaha. The bass reflex option extends the low end nicely, and the surround sound technology does as good a job as possible for a sound bar.
Pros: Easy setup Great sound Compact Wireless sub
really great surround sound, perfect for my bedroom. easy to mount on the wall and the owners guide is well done. the dts virtual x 3d surround has a bit of a hiss in the background. i like regular surround mode with clear voice and the subwoofer for the best sound. lots of extra features and solid build make this unit a great value. also, crutchfield had it on my doorstep in two days!
Definitely the best bang for the buck for a sub soundbar at this price. I originally had my heart set on the Bose Soundtouch 300, but couldn't justify forking out that kind of money. Especially without a sub. I'm glad I made the fiscally responsible decision and went with the Yamaha. The Yamaha sounds fantastic, the bass is strong, and setup was very simple. I have it connected to a 65" Sony and Apple TV 4k, and whether I'm watching a movie, sports, or just listening to music, the sound is crisp and full and fills the entire first floor. Extremely pleased with this purchase. Oh, and the shipping from Crutchfield was super fast. Couldn't be happier.
Pros: Excellent sound. Strong bass. Much smaller than a true surround system. Setup was a breeze.
Cons: The virtual surround does a nice job for what it is, but it won't work miracles.
works and sounds as advertised. Great Clearvoice. very good bass reflex. Phone app very handy. I did recommend the yas-207 and then the price went up. oops
I bought this after doing some quick research for my Bose Solo that decided to stop working. I was looking at a local store and a review mentioned that version couldn't be updated to the DTS Virtual:X, so I looked for the original version and found it on sale from Crutchfield, Since they have great service and support I ordered it from them. The TV I connected it to had no HDMI ARC or optical output, only a digital coax output, so I had to buy a converter to connect the optical from the soundbar to the coax on the TV. It connected fairly easy and came right up after initial connection and powering on. Sub-woofer was already paired out of the box. I had to tinker with the Bluetooth option to get it switch then pair. I am still figuring out the easiest way to switch to Bluetooth as it doesn't seem to do it immediately. I tested the auto on with the TV and it didn't work, I need to review the info on that as it might only be with the HDMI ARC connection, which I don't have on the TV I am using it on at the moment. (Please note, this review was written shortly after I connected it and did some quick tests. I was delayed on connecting it due to the digital optical/digital coax converter I had to get for my setup. So I was trying to get the review in they were requesting sooner rather than later). Overall I am pleased with it with little experience with it. I'm sure I will like it more once I get used to all the variations and settings. I would definitely tell friends to get this unit.
Pros: Easy to connect and use. Process to pair to wireless sub-woofer is simple if it isn't paired out of the box Sound options are versatile enough without being overwhelming.
Cons: Bluetooth took a little tinkering to get to switch to it then pair with my phone.
Like the sound but could not get the unit to work with my samsung remotes volume control due to the fact that the TV does not support ARC on its HDMI inputs. Not happy about having to use ANOTHER remote to control volume.Called support but could not advise me on any other solution. I assumed dit would be able to be configured to use my TV's remote so Iam not happy about that. Too much hassle to return it.
Pros: Sounds good with flexible settings
Cons: Cant use with my Samsung TV's remote to control volume.
awesome sound for a reasonable price. easy to install, wireless sub is great
Between a sale going on and some discount Crutchfield points I had, I was able to get this for much less. It replaces a YAS-106 and there's no comparison. Though I have yet to experience directional audio from the surround, the audio does fill the room as if it were coming from everywhere. The one downside, which I've seen mentioned elsewhere, is the dropoff of the subwoofer at lower volumes (which leaves the bar sounding worse than the native TV audio, which I wouldn't have thought possible), but I find rebooting the unit seems to take care of that.
Pros: Phenomenal sound for the price Easy setup
Cons: Subwoofer can drop off at lower volumes
I was looking for a good-sounding, compact solution to pair with a 65" tv. This Yamaha fit the bill perfectly with its good design, ease of use, and excellent sound dynamics. Subwoofer was paired out of the box and remote control was intuitive. The ability to adjust and enhance dialogue is a major plus. I was especially excited to try out the simulated surround as this is one of the first sound bars to feature DTS Virtual:X. The experience was quite good, but the height simulation was a bit lacking. The HDMI input and ARC connectivity is nice as it allows the unit to be turned on and controlled from the remotes of other components. Overall this is a great value and will work well in most small and even medium sized rooms. Highly recommended.
Haven't had it long enough to judge music, but TV audio is certainly more lively, if that's what you like. The Clear Voice setting works better for me. Unfortunately I can only get it to work in optical cable. HDMI ARC won't sync and I tried two TVs. Can't get BT to synch with TV or phone either.
Cons:Crutchfield response on 5/1/2018 Steve, we're sorry you're having issues with your soundbar. If the problem continues, please just reach out to our Tech Support team. They can help you solve the problem or set up a return within 60 days of purchase. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
Bought this Yamaha YAS-207 to replace my 6+ year old Yamaha Soundbar. Was swayed by price, and DTS Virtual:X ability. Could not afford the Dolby Atmos, or high end sound projectors that exist today. This does a good job with bass, and dialogue. Coming from a prior sound projector bar, this until lacks spaciousness, even when using DTS Virual X. Setup was quick and easy, and my unit already had the DTS Firmware upgrade. For the average home listener, I think they will be more than pleased with the value, and performance of the Yamaha YAS-207.
The set up was very easy and quick. The sound quality was very good for the Yamaha YAS-207 for the price. It met the sound requirements for us.
Pros: Good sound. Easy to set up.
Cons: Haven't noticed any to date. We've had the system for 2 to 3 weeks.
Great sound system. Sounds best in surround sound mode. You have to run the sub below half or it will over power your highs. I'm very satisfied.
This system was outstanding from the start. It was easy to install and the clear voice setting works great. The clear voice setting was one of the main reasons we purchased this unit. Most of the movies made today the actors mumble or speak so softly the sound setting for normal listening make it impossible to understand what they are saying many times. The "clear voice Setting" gives that extra boost at the normal voice audio frequencies.
Pros: Easy to install, good frequency range, simple remote easy to use
Cons: No LED display of settings only light of each setting on or off is not distinguishable at distance
We bought this for watching movies in the bedroom. Perfect size and output for this application.
Very pleased with sound bar. Wish I had been able to get satallite remote to control volume
Pros: Great quality as always from Yamaha
Donnt think first review went through, mine dropped sound every 60 sec.replacement bar still drops sound every hour, but have to keep as I'm hard of hearing. Waste of money but for price you get what you pay for
Good speaker for the money
Very nice performance for the price... great in a small space.
Pros: Good look, easy control....
Cons: Cannot Power on and of with television.... need second remote. App a bit clunky and awkward.
My first sound bar system... without a comparison, I am quite pleased with this unit... Definitely need HDMI cable. optical does not allow primary tv remote to control... That said, There was some initial challenge in that you need to plug the hdmi into the "out" on the Yamaha unit, which is illogical, but nonetheless complet3d the,set up.. Listening to classical music this Easter morn.. quite nice sound
Just what I was looking for. Thanks
Purchased as an upgrade to my Sony HT CH-260 soundbar purchased in 2013. The YAS-207 has the clearer dialogue I was looking for even without the 'clear voice' option enabled. Set-up is best when connecting primary source (in my case hi-def cable) to the soundbar via HDMI and then connecting the soundbar to the 4k Sony TV with HDMI through the TV's ARC connection. By using the ARC connection I can control TV on/off and soundbar on/off and volume with either my TV remote or my cable box remote without reprogramming the remote to accomodate the soundbar. You need to go to the Yamaha website for the YAS-207 firmware update that provides the DTS:X surround feature. The file is not large but it has to be downloaded to your computer from the Yamaha website. Once downloaded you should find it in your downloaded files directory as a compressed file. From there you should have an option to decompress and transfer the file. Connect a USB memory device to your computer and transfer it there. Be sure the USB memory device has no other files on it. Disconnect the USB memory device and follow the website instruction for connecting it to your soundbar to download the uncompressed firmware update file. Yes, a lot of effort but well worth it in my opinion. The sound is amazing for such a reasonably priced soundbar. Very pleased.
Pros: Sound quality Value
Cons: DTS:X firmware update is challenging
Great sound in a small package. A little tricky pairing it with my TV remote but finally figured it out. Bought from scratch & dent but noticed no flaws at all. Delivered in 2 days instead of promised 3. Well done. Super sound in 3D surround setting which really fills the room.
Pros: Super sound. Very flexible settings. Bluetooth pairing a plus. Rich bass from wireless unit. Handles DTS X with ease.
Cons: Tricky pairing with my TV remote. Not a serious drawback.
Fantastic sound system for the dollars.
Pros: Cost, astetics, good sound without being overpowering
Cons: It's a little thicker than I thought. Blocks the remote signal to the TV. Not something that would cause me to exchange it. Not quite as clear as my previous sound system but I did not want to spend a huge amount.
Sounds great, everything I expected. Fast delivery.
I love the sound from the Yamaha YAS-207. I connected it to a Samsung 8 series and it is the perfect combination. It is crisp with a great bass. It was very easy to install. At the moment, I am using optical cable but I will try the HDMI connection as well. The remote allows you to control the sub woofer, the surround, etc. I also tested the bluetooth by connecting the YAS-207 to my iPhone, it works great. The bar itself looks stylish as it is not bulky at all.
This sound bar made a enormous difference in terms of the quality and clarity of sound from our Panasonic Viero TV. It was very easy to install and looks beautiful, very low profile. It greatly improved the sound of dialogue on programs and the sub woofer was an added bonus to our listening pleasure - gotta love that base
Pros: ease of installation and clarity of sound
I have owned several systems over the years, and my favorite one incorporated a Yamaha RX-Z7 receiver. I have previously looked at sound bars for bedroom use, but they were honestly terrible. It's important to note that this will not make you think about replacing a dedicated system. Having noted that, I can assure you that if your enthusiasm for sound bars has been tempered by experience, give this a shot; it's darn admirable for the money and simplicity. As always, Crutchfield pulls through.
Pros: Simplicity, integration into areas that don't normally integratd well. Sounds much better than sound bars I have previously demo'd.
Cons: No display on the TV.
Great sound! Hooked it up in 5 minuets - very easy. Upgraded from an inexpensive old sounbar and I am very pleased. Still trying to figure out how to use my Apple TV.
Pros: Great sound and it is low enough so I can still use my TV remote. The base is excellent.
Cons: No slot to plug into my Apple TV.
This is replacing another Yamaha soundbar and seperate subwoofer. I think this is good kit for the price for a mid-sized room, but I had my reservations when I 1st purchased it. I didn't like the sound quality during the 1st week and thought of sending it back. Fast forward to present and I sometimes think my B&W 803 speakers, that are used purely for audio, are accidently on. In other words, I think this set needs some time to break-in and open up in order to reach its potential. Placement is also key. The subwoofer should be upfront and not behind you. Mine is approximately 4 ft away from the bar and against a wall. Also my soundbar is slightly elevated and 2/3's sits on a very firm foam padding, that is very hard to see, but made a significant difference to my ears, as soon as I added it.
Pros: Price Sound
Cons: It blocks my remote control, but that'll go away once I hang the TV and soundbar
After speaking with Crutchfield tech support we replaced the "static popping" Klipsch soundbar with this one. Yamaha sounds and works great. No audio problems. My LG Ultra 4k tv supports syncing with other devices. Using a Premium HDMI cable between the satellite box and the soundbar, and another between the TV and soundbar (using the HDMI ARC) port, the Directv remote turns ON and OFF all devices as well as controlling volume. Slick. Everything working great. Audio is very good and the Clear Voice setting is much appreciated. Thanks Crutchfield.
Great sound and really easy to set up!
Clear full sound with voices sharp and bass is very powerful. Surprisingly great sound for the price. Sounds like a much more expensive system.
I honestly do not know why this thing is getting such high ratings. The day I received it I asked to return it. (which Crutchfield sent a return label) To my ears, the sound is horrible. Soo much treble without any mid range. Its just bad. I did the firmware upgrade for the surround to work. Im not hearing any surround. Just tons of treble and bass. Nothing in between. I really tried to like it. I hate returning things. Movies on Netflix sound ok. But on cable, its bad. Then I fired up my Xbox One. That was the straw. For gaming. Its horrible! Almost useless.
It's safe to say that at this price point, this sound bar beats out the competition in the price range. This is top of the line for this segment. Of course yamaha bar does a great job with the mids and highs, but paired with its powerful sub the unit truly rocks the house. Where it truly excels is cinematic audio - When it's used with DTS:X content it's quite good. Not as good as a more expensive DTS:X or Atmos bar, but for the money, again... This can't be bested.
Bought this on sale and was pleasantly surprised at the sound quality
Great product sounds phenomenal
First and foremost, I love this sound bar. So why the low rating? I am on my third unit. Crutchfield was kind enough to replace my initial purchase. Then the same issue happened again. The subwoofer will randomly pop. And not quietly, it's like the cork off of a champagne bottle. Then Yamaha was kind enough to warranty exchange with me. That all went smoothly and the new sound bar showed up relatively quick. Which was super cool of them. But, here's that but. I have the same dang issue. Is it my house? My house is new (2008). I've tried three different placements l, even one next to the soundbar. If anyone has any idea what I am doing wrong please let me know. I'm frustrated because I really like this soundbar. If anyone knows, even the people at Crutchfield. Please contact me.
Pros: Room filling sound! It really is as advertised.
Cons: I'm on my third unit with the same issue with the subwoofer. Is it me?Crutchfield response on 2/20/2018 Once we saw this review, our Tech Support team reached out to Adam to help him further. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
Love the sound abd bass on this product , space saver as well.
Pros: Space saver .
Sound is great-perfect for bedroom-good value for the price -free shipping -buying from Crutchfield was easy.THANKS! GG
Pros: Great Sound-Good price-
The subWolfer is great I'll like that I can adjust it with the remote well worth the money
Pros: The sound it fits in front of my TV without blocking my remote
Excellent Value. 100% better than tv speakers
Pros: So much better than Sony TV speakers. Easy to install
Great sound. Firmware update was easy.
I have a small house, but I needed a surround sound system for my movies and Netflix shows. This soundbar absolutely rocks! I haven't had time to dive into all the features yet, but it makes my small room feel like a movie theater! The subwoofer thumps, and the mids/highs are crystal clear...typical Yamaha. Crutchfield customer service is really the reason I only buy here...they simply do it right 100% of the time. Highly recommend this unit, and highly highly recommend Crutchfield!
Good sound and price. Fast delivery
Pros: Well packed, works well, good sound and price.
Good amount of bass and well built without rattles. The highs could be a bit more clear however. Easy to use and setup, seems like a good purchase.
Never had a sound bar before, so don't really have a comparison point, but this Yamaha is unreal. Watched a movie for the first time using it last night and was blown away by the sound clarity both dialogue and music. The subwoofer really pumps, and the sound bar far exceeded my expectations. I have this paired to a 43" TV in a bedroom, and I dare say I like the sound quality better than the high end setup in my main home theater room. Maybe I have some tweaking to do on my main system.
Pros: Quality construction, Yamaha reputation, crisp and clear dialogue and bass.
Cons: None so far, love this. Wish Music Cast was included at this price point.
Crystal clear sound you get More that what you payd fir
Pros: Very clear siund
Cons: No cons
The receiver produces good quality sound and I like the Clear Voice feature. The subwoofer is a little too 'boomy' for my small room, so I have it turned down almost as far as it will go and I still get plenty of bass. I have not yet succeeded in connecting this sound bar to my Samsung TV via HDMI and getting both sound and picture, but Crutchfield's tech support did try to help with that. It works okay with the digital optical cable.
Pros: Good sound Clear Voice feature
Cons: HDMI (ARC) may require some fiddling
Great value IMHO. Easy setup. Sounds amazing. Had to try twice to get the firmware update to load, but no big deal. The phone app is the best interface for my purposes, but it doesn't seem to auto-connect to the soundbar, so I will need to do some further investigation on that. This is the first component I've used that is equipped with HDMI ARC and it works great with my LG tv.
Pros: Great Value. HDMI ARC. Convenient phone app.
Cons: None, so far.
Seems to be exactly what everyone else says for the price I give it a great buy for what you get. Sounds great on all levels
Excellent choice for my use. No regrets. It was easy to install and the Bluetooth sub woofer makes it even better reducing the wire clutter. The sound is amazing for my use (average user). It pumps enough bass for my taste. Other reviewers say that they cannot get the volume control level on their TV but I think it is just a matter of setup. I was able to program the unit as an auxiliary device on my Charter cable remote and I see the volume control on my TV, which by the way is 6 years old. The surround and clear voice options are also great.
Pros: Great sound bar all around. No complaints
Cons: None at the time of this review
We like the better sound it gives us instead of the tin can sound coming from our Vizio tv. The set up was very easy and it's great to listen to music from our Ipad with the Bluetooth connection. We like it so far.
Pros: Bluetooth connection
Cons: No volume displayed on tv is the only complaint we have with it.
First off I would like to thank David my advisor. I had 3 sound bars in mind, he informed me about them all. I chose this one and said here we go. This thing sounds better than a budget bar, with the right settings it rivals my 2.1 system with a Sony home theater receiver and 150 watt sub and two bookshelf spkrs @ 100 watts x 2. Not sure about the virtual x yet, but i did download & upload the update to the unit. Trying different settings to get the best out of the unit is what I did. The app helps also.
Pros: Very good surround sound, bass is good for a 6 1/4 woofer with 100 watts.
Cons: Sub Crossover not adjustable: Crossover frequency causes voices to be carried through the sub at times. Keeping the sub near the bar helps with not hearing this.
Cannot upload direct x as package did not come with cable to do so. Also the advertisement makes it sound like direct x is so simple when in fact its a pain, u need the cable, memory card, then find download, then hookup cable, then download into unit, u get the the picture.
The Yamaha YAS-207 is perfect for my 14'x20' room and fits my needs perfectly. The equipment is well made and aesthetically pleasing. The sub-woofers compact design is well thought out and fits in a small area. My only problem hooking it up to my 4 year-old Samsung TV, was that my TV didn't allow for the use of the supplied optical cable, so I had to purchase 2 HDMI cables. Also, the base of the TV projected out 3' away from the screen causing the sound bar to sit way too far onto the TV stand, which was remedied by cutting two pieces of black neoprene pipe insulation and attaching them to the bottom of the sound bar with double-stick tape. This added to the height of the sound bar allowing it to bridge the TV base and tuck in tightly to the screen. An added benefit to elevating the bar is, now it has greater air circulation beneath it. The surround sound is superior compared to the television speakers, and is great for listening to Pandora radio over the TV. Overall, I am very pleased with the build quality and sound of this equipment, but the bass could be a little bit deeper for my taste.
Pros: Great sound for the money. Quality construction. Aesthetically pleasing.
Cons: Sub Woofer is a little weak.
Excellent surround sound. Clarity, pure in details. Very good for listening music too. It do not make any distortion. Could fill your family or living room (200 sq. foot) with real movie outstanding sound. You can feel in theater.
Great sound for the cost, medium and high volume great low volume not as good. I would still by it. It sounds that good. ,
Purchased this for my new LG OLED TV set-up and previously had an older Yamaha 203 from a few years back that I was looking to update. Since I had a great experience with the older Yamaha 203, I purchased this 207. Everything appeared to work great until the subwoofer issue came to light. During normal action scenes, explosions, music, action scenes; the sound system worked great. With the virtual surround firmware update, the sound appeared to come from all angles which I was very pleased with. However, the subwoofer cross-over has issues. When a male actor/person talks, the subwoofer comes on and off, and makes a funny "bass/gurgle" sound as the sub is commanded on and back off from the cross-over. I called Crutchfield tech support with the issue and was offered great advice and troubleshooting help. There are no "settings" to change over than bass volume and bass extension, and clear voice when people are talking. Changing these made no difference. I tried changing input/output modes, switched from HDMI ARC to Optical, and back, etc with no resolution. Crutchfield expedited me another unit. However, it does the exact same noise, to the point that its just annoying to have the subwoofer on when not needing it. So I thought to myself, why even have the sound system if I can't have the whole thing lol? So I am returning the second unit and changing to a Sony HT-CT800, and I will update this review with the differences since they are in the same price range
Pros: Sound bar sounds great. Sound comes from all angles with DTS Firmware update Easy to use and install
Cons: Subwoofer cross-over is too broad and comes on with voices and sounds horrible. No adjustment whatsoever with cross-overs.
Great Sound! Downloaded latest firmware and everything works as promoted. I'm using the HDMI ARC connection and can control the sound with cable controller or sound bar controller. I'm very pleased with the sound and controls. I highly recommend this product. Great price for this sound bar!
Pros: HDMI for DVD Player - Clear Voice - Bass Extension Key HDMI ARC for TV control - Surround Sound Control - Dimmer Control Great Subwoofer - Bluetooth Device - Subwoofer volume control
I recently purchased the Yamaha YAS-207 soundbar to compliment my new TV (LG 65 SJ8000 4K Super UHD Smart LED TV) and after evaluating a number of products, I felt the YAS-207 was the correct choice for my set up, chiefly due to its HDMI/HDR pass-through to feed the audio output from the OPPO UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player I bought to feed a quality signal to the TV with. Set up was awesomely simple right out of the box, couldn't have taken more than 3 or 4 minutes topps! Everything worked as advertised & anticipated right out of the box, virtually no pairing issues, and utilizing the optical cable to connect the TV to the soundbar, I'm VERY satisfied with the quality of audio this soundbar provides. I don't live in a huge place, and the location where I've got my TV set up is about a 25 foot by 20 foot room, so even cranking the volume up to moderate levels, with the sub woofer turned up only +2, I'm receiving excellent sound which really compliments the picture on my TV. Updating the firmware was a breeze, even using a wi-fi connection initially - the device has a USB service port, you just download the update to a memory stick, turn off the unit, insert the stick, press the sequence of buttons to initiate the update when turning on the device, & about a minute later, it's ready to go! I will also point out I purchased the product from Crutchfield due to the purchases I've made in the past, I have always enjoyed their level of service & support
Pros: Amazing Sound Quality, ergonomically appealing, Ease of setup, price, features.
Cons: Would have liked to see an auto-shut off feature for the device in general, other than only with the HDMI input. It's NOT a big deal, as this is in NO WAY a power hog, but it seems the auto power off functionality only works when you have the HDMI ARC channel connected, Perhaps this may be changed with a future software update?
Yamaha hits a home run with this upgrade from tv's sound. If you dont have the room or finances for a full blown sound system this is the way to go. Easy peasy set-up and looks good too. The sound processing makes it seem like I have extra speakers in the room.
Pros: wonderful sound processing, easy set up, looks good
Very pleased with the sound of this product. Very basic look but pleased with the balanced sound and clarity. Crutchfield was great to deal with. I am an international customer and called within 12 hrs to follow up with the order. Received promptly and in perfect condition.
Killer product, a SERIOUS upgrade to your TV without a gaggle of speakers. Literally a no-brainer, plug and play setup right out of the box. Love the Bluetooth pairing with my iPhone and MacBook Air, my iTunes playlist sounds absolutely fabulous through this soundbar & wireless subwoofer. Thrilled with the superior bang for your buck! Thanks, Crutchfield for a terrific product!
Pros: Easy setup.
First plugged in with optical cable and was great, I had to use its remote to control it. Then I plugged in the HDMI via ARC on my Sony XBR65X850E and game changer. The soundbar's power and volume is controlled with the tv remote. Sound quality was great before the update, then I updated with the USB which was fairly simple just follow the instructions exactly, after the update it sounds awesome! I love sound quality in home audio, car audio etc. and the soundbar's sound quality for the money cannot be beat. Yes there is better but for price you will be amazed. I have a large living room with high ceilings and this fills up the room quite nicely. The 3d surround is great, I am amazed how well it sounds for coming out of such a small bar. I place the subwoofer behind my couch in the corner of the room and it gives it more of a surround sound. It gets loud enough and the bass is pretty powerful for a 6 1/4". Bluetooth works great! I am very satisfied with this soundbar.
Great price, great product, the base is what I was looking for without spending a lot more money
Great sound, easy hook up, Bluetooth works and sounds great!! ARC is kind of finicky
Pros: Super easy sub hook up, Bluetooth works great. Great sounding !!!!!
Cons: Have issues with ARC, I have to leave my optical cable hooked up in order for the sound to be transmitted through my HDMI cable
Great Soundbar for the price. I ordered two Polk Magnifi Mini's first and both unites had glitches with ARC not working correctly even after the updates. I was also not a big fan of their overall sound (sounded very small like a Bluetooth speaker) The Yamaha YAS-207 is a big step up in overall sound quality and got even better after the firmware update. The soundstage is wide and opened with 3D surround active (blue light on Soundbar will be on). This is the best sounding bar in the price range and could beat some that are double the price. Highly recommend.
I dont have yet! UPS lost it! But I can tell u Crutchfield is awesome to deal with. They sent out another no questions asked! Will always buy from Crutchfiel.
An attractive sound bar set with loads of features, and very nice sound. I particularly like the video pass through feature. The HDMI input is connected to our Apple TV and the HDMI output (ARC) is connected to our Sony flatscreen. We also have the sound bar connected (via analog input) to our Denon amp's Zone 3. We control the sound bar and Apple TV with the Sony TV's remote, so everything is seamless. My one gripe is that the subwoofer is not that noticeable, given it's 100 W RMS rating (even with the subwoofer's volume turned all the way up).
Great for the price! Easy to install! Fills the 20x20 living room with vaulted ceilings. Great subwoofer!
Pros: Easy to get up and running. Update wasn't difficult at all to install. Definitely improved sound with update.
Cons: Couldn't find a way to adjust bass or treble on sound bar.
Excellent soundbar for the price. The setup was quick and easy, and the additional settings in the downloadable app help to extend its capabilities.
Perfect for my sunroom size 13x13 perfect square. Had plenty of punch in the sub and clear sound for the soundbar. Definitely a must buy if you have a small to medium size space. Worth the money for sure at that price point.
Cons: App is horrible. Controller not the best quality.
Purchased this due to it's lower price as compared to some of the sound bars out there. The reviews of this unit state that it is one of the best lower priced units on the market.....and they were right! I planned on spending a little now and would upgrade to a higher quality bar later. It sounds so good that that will probably never happen. The sound is that good. Very highly recommended!
We all expect mediocre sound quality from a razor-thin TV, even an excellent one (LG OLED65C7P). The recommended solution--add a sound bar. OK, done. The sub-woofer adds all the low end I could ask for. At medium-high and very high volume, the YAS-207 sounds great, much better than the TV's internal speaker. The TV remote also works on sound bar--nice. Rocking out is fun again. At low to moderate volume levels, its sound quality is WORSE than the television's. That's the level I use 95% of the time. What now? Call Tech Support. Five stars to Crutchfield for their patient efforts in taking me through all of the (many) adjustments that COULD have solved the problem. There are more audio options than you can imagine--it's all quite complex, and we tried everything. After days of experimenting, I have concluded that it is necessary to turn the sound bar OFF whenever I listen at low to moderate volume. Crutchfield did inform me that I could return the sound bar, but, knowing how much work I had done to get it installed, and knowing that I had foolishly discarded the (rather uniquely-shaped) packaging, I decided to eat it. To rock out, I must go into the TV settings, select the audio output option that uses the sound bar and the TV internal speakers simultaneously, then control volume(s) using BOTH remotes. You've been warned.
Cons: terrible voice clarity, weird-sounding (cross-over network?) behavior at low volume levels
Seems like the sound is coming from every where! That's pretty amazing for a Sound Bar!
Great sounding system right out of the box. My only dilemma was that I couldn't seem to get the DTS virtual X to function. I think I finally figured out the solution to solve it thanks to an online review., It seems that many of these that were manufactured early in the production process don't have the required firmware update to allow for that option. I haven't updated yet but that seems to be the most reasonable explanation.
Pros: Great sound Reasonable price Easy setup
Cons: Early model, needs updates to aquire DTS VirtualX
Overall, a nice soundbar for the price. I did a lot of research and in my opinion, it's hard to find a better value. It sounds good and definitely enhances my experience watching tv. The only drawbacks have so far experienced is when switching from cable to Netflix on my Samsung smart tv, I also need to change the channel on the soundbar from hdmi to tv using the soundbar remote control, which is a small inconvenience.
Very easy to set up. The sound is excellent. I placed the sound bar on top of the TV. The clear voice is what we needed and works just as advertised.
I would give it five stars for a small soundbar if it had a display. It only has green lights on the front to show sound levels and all the other information. Other than that it is a very nice soundbar for the money.
Pros: Great sound for the price.
Cons: No digital display.
Sound is exceptional, especially after upgrade to 3D Surround Sound. Enjoying sound coming in from all over the room. Easy installation. Well worth it.
Pros: Amazing Sound. 3D sound
Cons: None at this time.
Very happy with this purchase. Great sound with TV, and love being able to stream tunes from my iPad. Sound quality is very good. Comcast remote works with TV/sound bar very well. I would recommend this sound bar to a friend!
The YAS-207 is a great value! Has all the "bells and whistles" to meet your listening desires, and they really work well, easily adjustable with remote including subwoofer, with display light indicators. Love it!
Good clear sound. Operating the sound bar with the TV's remote control was disappointing. Had initial difficulty pairing the TV's Audio Return Channel with the sound bar. After some phone help from Crutchfield was able to control the sound bar volume and unit "off" function with the TV remote but still can only turn the sound bar on with the supplied remote. My previous sound bar turned on and off with the TV remote and was only connected by a optical digital cable. This sound bar uses a optical digital cable and an HDMI cable and still won't power "on" with the TV remote. As long as you don't mind an extra remote this is a nice sound bar.
Pros: Very good sound
Cons: Remote control function
The sound is awsome. Easy to install.. Good product for a good price.
Good all around sound!! Sounds crispy!! And the woofer has good bang to it!!
Pros: Good all around sound!! Sounds crispy!! And the woofer has good bang to it!!
Cons: Having to upgrade the system on your own!! Trying to find a USB and going through the hassle
Amazing full sound after the firmware upgrade. Regular surround is great too.
Great product. Awesome sound. Thanks to Buzz at Crutchfield for his help.
I did a lot of research, and you definitely get the most bang for your buck with this soundbar. The 207 gets very loud in action movies and it really does mimic surround sound very well with just the sound bar and subwoofer. The clear voice option works awesome for sporting events and movies where the dialogue is hard to hear. I HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone who doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg to have a good sound system.
Pros: Clear sound Very loud Great bass
Cons: App doesn't work all the time
No problems, it works great.
This product is such a great value. I was looking to just replace the sound from my Samsung tv as well as play music from my Sirius subscription via the Bluetooth connection. Buddy from Crutchfield knew exactly what I wanted and came through 100%
Pros: Use of use
The Yamaha YAS-207 sound bar offers many features and great sound. The Clear Voice works very well to enhance movie dialogue and sports commentary. The Bass Extension allows me to add some bass at low volumes. I bought this to replace an earlier model Yamaha sound bar because I wanted to add a subwoofer and Bluetooth capability. I am happy I did!
Pros: Low Profile fits my entertainment center well Great Bass Clear Voice
This soundbar is great! The sound is so much better than expected. The unit looks good and you can "feel" the bass when you want it. The 'Clear Voice' mode is as advertised . . . Clear!
easy to setup. Have 80" Sharp with xfinity set top box. The set top box connected to the YAS-207, and then the YAS-207 via HDMI to the Sharp (via HDMI arc). Use it for clear voice for movies, and so far, seems to work very well. Only issue is that the subwoofer seems to fade in and out occasional. I changed positions and brought it closer to the sound bar, but it still happens off and on. A little frustrating, but overall, well worth the money.
Pros: easy setup, low profile, good sound
Cons: subwoofer seems to fade in and out occassionally
Great product for the Baby Boomers as it is quick and easy to use with great sound
Pros: Good sound and easy to use
Bought it without listening to it at a store. They didn't have it but the local retailer guy tried to sell me a Polk bar for 399 but it didn't sound that good. Tinny. Read the reviews on the Yamaha and have been happy with Yamaha products in the past. It sounds freaking awesome! Very happy with the sound bar. Bass is thumpin sounds great with regular tv,sports and movies. Bought it from scratch and dent, box was jacked up but sound bar was in perfect condition. Very happy with purchase.
Good overall soundbar. Easy to setup. Firmware was easy to install. Bluetooth works well. Good bass. Virtual DTS X is kinda a gimmick. Audio is just louder with the setting on. Clear voice barely improves voice clarity. Recommend if you are looking to upgrade TV sound quality.
Outstanding quality product inside and out and sound to keep you Happy , put it to the test
Pros: All good
Overall, I am happy with the product. Setting up was rather simple. The only issue I had was downloading the firmware for the DTS-X. The instructions in the manual were a little different than what was on the website. I got it straightened out after the second attempt and all was well. For the price, this system is solid. After reading several reviews and the in-house demo from Crutchfield.com, I have to admit I was looking for a bit more. The sound and base coming from the bar and sub are good, but I don't get the surround sound as much as described in the Crutchfield review. Sure, I can hear bits of it, but it is not as detailed as I had thought. I sampled several different DTS-X demos on YouTube, but never really heard much of a difference between the DTS-X content and regular Dolby content. Either way, the system is good and I am happy with the purchase, but just make sure you are not expecting a full surround sound experience - even in a relatively small basement setup like I have.
Pros: Price, bass, sound, and setup
Cons: Can't really differentiate between true DTS-X content vs plain Dolby.
Let me begin by saying that you must download the new firmware update to experience the full potential of this sound bar. I decided to test it out before I downloaded the new update and the difference is remarkable. I returned the Samsung HW-K850 for this. The bass isn't as strong but it is tighter and sounds better in my opinion. I watched Deadpool before and after the update and as long as you are setting in front of the sound bar you can feel like sounds are coming from all sides. I can't wait for this sound bar to be perfected because I feel like it will be almost as good as the Samsung HW-K950 but for a 5th of the price.
Pros: Gets very loud and surround sound is amazing after update.
Cons: You must sit in front of the bar to experience 3D surround.
It was nice to read the product review on Crutchfield's website several times as I researched the sound bar. Once I decided on the Yamaha YAS-207, it was delivered in the time frame indicated, was easy to unpack and installation was easier than I expected. The sound quality and controls were exactly as the review reported so that was a plus. I was looking for a good sound bar to pair with my new 65" TV and that was achieved with the Yamaha YAS-207.
Simple to use and rich sound how cool is that?
Pros: easy install and setup. The wireless sub woofer is real nice as I have pets and wires can get in the way.
Cons: don't have one yet
not at all what I expected, it will not except firmware update after trying many times, I need to talk to someone about this
Cons:Crutchfield response on 8/28/2017 This customer contacted our Tech Support for help. Whenever you encounter a problem with anything you purchase from Crutchfield, please contact our tech support team right away. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
We have yet to download the firmware update, but have found the YAS-207 to satisfy our wishes for a balance of good sound reinforcement for tv sources as well as music reproduction. We have asked it to be a replacement for a large component-grade surround syrstem, and it has pleased us surprisingly. The bass output is certainly not going to satisfy those hoping for window rattling, but we find it effective in our smallish living room. Most appealing for us is the soundbar is easy to listen to and has never been fatiguing. It is also remarkably simple to operate and essentially "plug and play." A nice item.
Pros: Balanced, high quality sound Easy to install and use Great for music and tv sources
Cons: Bass is a bit "wooden" as expected
I was looking for something to replace my worn out 17+ year old surround sound system. I started looking at soundbars because they take up less space and you don't have wires running all over the place. I was a little hesitant on ordering one thinking it wouldn't sound as good as my present setup. I can tell you that this soundbar exceeded my expectations and I love the sound this unit puts out. While watching tv or playing Xbox I use the regular surround mode and while watching a bluray the dts virtual x sounds amazing. I tossed my old 5.1 system the next day.
Pros: Compact, easy setup.
Very solid soundbar in a small footprint. The wireless bass is nice and works well too. Some minor issues with it staying on HDMI input through Xbox (sometimes sets to tv) and you get no audio. Will attempt to set forced again but didn't stick the first time.
Pros: Small footprint Wireless sub Decent sound Clearvoice is a useful
This sound bar is much better than my previous one. The base is stronger and the higher range is cleaner and crisp. The small remote has settings for stereo and surround and a button for voice clarity. Hookup was simple but you may have to change the tv sound settings using the tv menu screen. Shipping from Crutchfield was free and arrived in two as promised.
Affordable option to improve sound quality on my TV. Very pleased with my purchase.
Pros: Sound, easy setup
Cons: Challenges with Samsung SmartTV apps and using one remote for multiple devices.
This is the second soundbar we have purchased for our family room TV. In another room we have a bar from B&W that is super, but the Yamaha sound is every bit as fantastic for a third of the price. Simple to set up and doesn't block the IR receiver of our flat screen. Once you've downloaded and installed the firmware upgrade, the surround sound is unbelievable. Highly recommended!
Clear voice works well. Surround sound not so much
Pros: Clear voice
Cons: Surround sound
I installed this soundbar on the 40" Sony TV that my wife likes to watch. I have three devices connected, Xfinity Cable box, Sony Blue-Ray, and a WD Streaming Media player. I used the optical output from the TV to the soundbar as well as the HDMI In and Out to connect the Blue-Ray Player. The unit sounds great, we get great bass now and with Clear Voice we can actually hear the dialog when watching a movie. I haven't been able to try the DTS Virtual-X (Virtual 3D Surround) yet.
I connected the speaker to my TV's optical output, turned it on and placed the wireless sub in a corner wall for bigger bass response. Since this speaker relies on speakers bouncing off walls it is important that you have good room acoustic. I downloaded the latest firmware from Yamaha's website to get Virtual X and saved it on a USB fat32 formatted Flash drive. Followed the instructions on yamaha's website. In less than 20 sec all was done. I sat directly in the front of the speaker to get the full effect. Turned on the 3D effect. Light turns blue. I tested Mad Max Fury 4K WOW! What a sound! They are not kidding the surround speakers are invisible. It gives the illusion that you are watching a big home theatre. The louder you turned the volume up, the more effective the speakers sound. I keep turning my head and looking back. This speaker is loud! Plenty of bass. Very balanced and overall sweet sounding speaker. It's crazy what is coming out of this one speaker bar. Trust me I'm a DJ. Sometimes I think it's too much, but the bass has a separate volume control. For the money I don't think any bars in the market can beat this. If you're looking for a sound bar for your room or for a small to medium living room space, this is well worth the purchase.
Pros: Loud, Good bass and treble, price, sleek and slim, good built, look and feel.
Cons: For the price, none
This is my first sound bar. I had done lots of research on this price range. Remember the price of this sound bar. Keep that in mind as you shop, if you keep your expectation in that price range. This product is awesome, it delivery great bass / sound around the room. If you are using this as a home theater setup, this will not be something you want to use..
Super easy to install! Firmware update took about 10 total minutes. DTS works great!
This is one great wireless sound system for the money. The Crutchfield rep was very knowledgeable as he also suggested some Klipsch systems but this one won out due to price and positive reviews. Highs are impressive while the bass is tight, not too deep. I also had a tv wall mounted at the same time and the installer said this "Yamaha sounded as good as some Sonos systems that he has installed". This really shines when you play 4k content though. Unfortunately, my new tv died soon afterwards so play time was limited and could not fully test the DTS.
Pros: Impressive highs, easy to mount and set up, low profile
Don't expect DTS Virtual:X, Don't expect surround sound. Had a high expectation of DTS Virtual:X firmware update. However, I don't see a big improvement but worse. It made the sound so harsh (sounds like you are in a huge empty room)to let you feel the so-called "Space". But it turns out made original high pitch sound unacceptable, bass sounds so weird, even that, I still can't feel the three-dimensional surround sound. Overall, the soundbar is really good in its own class, definitely worth your every penny. Just make sure your turn that DTS Virtual:X OFF. Or could wait for the next update.
Pros: Top soundbar in its class
Cons: DTS Virtual:X is a joke
Great sound out a slim, sleek design. Looks great below my TV, don't notice it at all while watching. Sub sounds great too, as much bass as you want using the controls. Bass is tight. Wireless is the way to go.
easy setup with great sound
Pros: great sound easy set-up
Installed high (top of TV) on the wall (no problem with remote control at this height). Sound is good with lots of changeable features that you can only find on the more higher priced sound bars.
Pros: HDMI and other features for a great price. Good sound for both voice and music. Can blast the bass or not.
Cons: None (not for this price).
Overall great experience so far. Compact, good looks, easy to set up. Sound is quite good for the price. I'm happy!
Great sound. Easy to hook up.
This product did not disapoint. Would recommend.
Pros: Great sound for the money. Sub has good range. Feels like a solid product.
Cons: Interface could use improvement. Have no idea what it means from a distance.
Not great sound. No midrange, thin sounding with some booms from the sub. Doesn't play well with 2016 Samsung tv and smart remote. However, it's cheap and sounds better than the tv alone. Worth the price but don't expect surround sound. .
I was in the market to buy a sound bar for the first time. I initially had my eyes on YAS-203 then luckily found out 207 just got released. Although I never had a soundbar before, the sound quality and ability to fill the living room was satisfactory. I have PS4 pro and PC connected to Samsung KS8000 TV via HDMI and use HDMI ARC to feed it to the sound bar and it seems to work well. Soundbar power turns on and off when TV switches on and off. Volume of the soundbar can be controlled with TV remote. No problems when switching between two sources. Wireless sub woofer is another convenience factor. The green light display of the soundbar is simple, intuitive, and not distracting when you put it in dim mode. When I watch sports broadcast and sometimes commentator's voice gets muffled due to crowd noise, activating Clear Voice pop the dialogue more audible. I like the slick design that fits under a TV with no problem. Overall, I feel that I got a soundbar perfect for me without breaking the bank.
Pros: sound that is easy to ears latest specification, connectivity options easy to sync up with the TV slick design with intuitive green light display doesn't cost a lot
Cons: may not be powerful enough to fill bigger space or satisfy people that are very sensitive to audio quality
The sound bar is awesome and easy to set up, the quality of the audio is amazing, good job Yamaha.
I bought this as a replacement for my 2008 Samsung soundbar. The Yamaha YAS-207 does not disappoint! Incredible sound from a soundbar without the hassle and expense of setting up a true 5.1 or 7.1 sound system. I am very pleased with this purchase.
This sound bar is awesome. It set up quickly and sounded great from the start. Huge upgrade over my previous unit, without breaking the bank. So glad I learned about Crutchfield when I did! They were the only ones selling this unit.
Pros: The YAS 207 has the crisp clear voice you're looking for, while also delivering some punch. I love the slim sleek look of it all. The sub is a nice upgrade from my tiny Vizio set up I had (which was good for what it was). This unit just fills my room now.
Cons: I'm not sure if it's my set up, but the video takes a moment to pop up when running everything HDMI. There has been some cut in and out from the sub, I'm not sure if it had to do with channels I was watching. Sometimes the sub is behind their voice sometimes not. Haven't figured out why. Make no mistake this unit still cranks some sound out. Especially with Netflix 4K stuff.Crutchfield response on 7/25/2017 Adam, we're sorry you're having some issues with your soundbar. If the problem continues and you need some help, please just reach out to our tech support team. They can either help get the soundbar working properly, or possibly return it for an exchange or refund.
I will caveat this review with the fact that we are using this in a very large great room 22' x 14' with high vaulted ceilings. Is this soundbar good for the price? Yes. Is DTS Virtual X the revolutionary technology leap forward is says it is? No. After receiving the YAS-207 I installed the new firmware in 30 seconds and gave DTS Virtual X a spin with Star Trek Beyond & The Dark Knight. Overall, I'm slightly underwhelmed. I replaced a Vizio SB3821 with the new Yamaha 207 and find it to be only a marginal improvement. The DTS X virtual surround effect definitely creates a larger sound stage and makes the sound fill the room more, but I don't find that it is creating the effect that something is overhead or behind you. Far left and right simulation does appear to be quite effective though. While the sound does appear to be more around you with Vitual X on, it also appears to be weaker and more hollow at the same time. Overall if the Vizio was a B- I'll give the Yamaha a B
Pros: iPhone App, Slim size, Subwoofer
Cons: DTS X not fully surrounding you
It was even more difficult to find the right sound bar than to find the right television. Most of the marketplace was dominated by high priced models with legacy decoders. The Yamaha YAS-207 arrived at the market just at the right time for me. It met all of my criteria except one: some form of automatic room correction but I could not honestly expect this feature at this price. I cannot tell you what the ultimate sound bar might sound like but this one has met all of my audio expectations. This product will send all of the other manufacturers back to reevaluate and change their offerings because they have just become outclassed and at a price point that will make them scream.
Pros: Sound Price
Cons: Limited availability right now
I experienced in the past that many of the large flat TV's have average to subpar sound. I was on the market for a new one so I decided to research sound systems and was lucky this was launching at the same time. I was excited for the new technology it offered and looked forward to a great brand like Yamaha. Setup couldn't be easier with just a couple things to plug in. You can tell it's a quality product just setting it up. The sound is great! Very full sounding, powerful subwoofer. I liked being able to hide the subwoofer and move it from the TV with no wired connections. Looking forward to the DTS Virtual X update to take the system to the next level!
Pros: Price, build quality, full rich sound, wireless subwoofer
Cons: As of July 2017, Virtual X is coming in a firmware update.
Super quality sound, almost like surround sound, bass not heavy enough.
Pros: Superb surround like sound.
Cons: Bass not heavy enough.

2ch Active Soundbar Speaker: The Yamaha YAS-207's active soundbar speaker features a 2ch driver configuration with one 1" dome tweeter and two 1.75" mid-woofers for each of the left & right channels. The YAS-207's soundbar utilizes a 50 watt x 2 channel amp to power the enclosed drivers.
Wireless Powered Subwoofer: The Yamaha YAS-207 includes a wireless powered subwoofer that features a side-firing 6.25" woofer and 100 watt amplifier for dynamic bass response. A front-firing port aids in deeper, bigger bass response. Since the powered sub is wireless, you don't have to connect a cable between the soundbar and the sub (you still will need to plug the sub's AC power cord into a wall). The powered sub's wireless range is 33'.
Clear Voice: Clear Voice raises the level of dialog and narrations while maintaining overall sound quality. Movies and TV shows, sports commentary and news broadcasts are more clearly audible.
Bass Extension: Yamaha's exclusive Bass Extension technology boosts the bass from the wireless powered sub to produce a bigger, fuller sound. You an also adjust the wireless powered subwoofer's volume level independently from the system's overall volume.
Compressed Music Enhancer: The Compressed Music Enhancer restores frequency response lost during digital compression, so your music sounds the way it should. Optimized for Bluetooth audio transmission, you'll enjoy vivid, lively sound quality during wireless playback. When a compressed source is played, the Compressed Music Enhancer engages automatically.
Dolby Digital & DTS Compatible: The Yamaha YAS-207 soundbar decodes 2ch PCM, multi-channel PCM, Dolby Digital, & DTS audio signals. You can listen to these audio formats in Virtual Surround mode or 2ch Stereo mode. The 2ch Stereo mode is ideal for music, while the Virtual Surround mode provides a much more immersive soundfield for movies. From Yamaha's Home Theater Control App on your Apple iOS or Android device you select between different surround modes - TV Program, Stereo, Movie, Music, Sports, & Game.

DTS Virtual:X Ready + 3D Surround Mode (via firmware update - available now): DTS Virtual:X compatibility & a 3D Surround playback mode will be available through a firmware update (due August 2017). Once the firmware update is complete, surround sound can be heard not only from horizontal directions, but also from varying heights when DTS Virtual:X is used. DTS Virtual:X can be used with any content (from 2ch to 5.1ch soundtracks), while delivering virtual height & virtual surround processing based on psychoacoustics (not reflective surfaces).
Note: The firmware update can be accessed from Yamaha's website (click here) and downloaded onto a USB thumbdrive which will need to be inserted into YAS-207's USB port for update.
HDMI 2.0a: The Yamaha YAS-207 is outfitted with one HDMI 2.0a input and one HDMI ARC 2.0a output that support the latest HDMI 2.0a standards; such as 4K/60Hz, HDCP 2.2, 4:4:4 color subsampling, & HDR (High Dynamic Range) for full support of today's 4K content from Ultra HD Blu-ray & online video services (like Amazon & Netflix).
ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature of the YAS-207's HDMI output allows audio to be sent from your compatible TV to the soundbar through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your TV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television.
Note: Because with many televisions, the ARC-enabled HDMI input will only pass 2ch PCM from devices connected to the TV via HDMI or analog, we recommend that you connect your Blu-ray player or Satellite/Cable box to the Yamaha soundbar directly; and then connect the YAS-207's ARC-enabled HDMI output to your TV's ARC-enabled HDMI input. This setup will give you with the best overall sound performance.
Analog & Digital Audio Inputs: The YAS-207 is outfitted with both analog & digital audio inputs to connect to your TV. There is one optical (toslink) digital input that supports 2Ch PCM, 5.1ch Dolby Digital, and 5.1ch DTS audio signals (up to 24-bit/32-48kHz). There is also one stereo minijack (3.5mm) audio input for televisions without an optical digital out.
Note: The digital optical output terminals of many flat-panel TVs only send an audio signal in 5.1ch when receiving Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound from the TV's built-in tuner, network connection, or connected USB device; and will output only 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via HDMI, or RCA (like your Blue-ray/DVD player or satellite/cable box).
Bluetooth Music Streaming: The Yamaha YAS-207 soundbar speaker system supports Bluetooth (v.4.1+EDR) A2DP wireless audio streaming (up to 33'). This allows you to stream stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled device; such as your Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/table, Windows Phone/PC, or Mac computer/laptop to the YAS-207 soundbar speaker. You will continue to navigate your music and view song/artist information from your Bluetooth-enabled device.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Yamaha YAS-207.
Remote Control: The YAS-207 comes with a sleek, easy-to-use IR remote control for wireless operation of the soundbar speaker. Also, if your TV supports HDMI CEC and you use HDMI connectivity, it is possible to adjust the volume of the sound bar using your TV's remote to simplify day-to-day operation.
Note: This soundbar does not allow you to program your TV remote to operate the speaker, but does offer HDMI control through your compatible TV's remote.
Home Theater Controller App (for iOS & Android): The YAS-207 is compatible with Yamaha's Home Theater Control App (HT Controller) for Apple iOS 8.0+ & Android OS 4.0+ devices. This remote app makes it easy to control the soundbar from your compatible Apple iOS or Android device via a Bluetooth connection. Its intuitive and easy-to-see operating screen uses icons that let you easily perform a variety of operations; including Input, Volume, Audio settings, and Surround modes. Surround modes include TV Program, Stereo, Movie, Music, Sports, & Game.
Mounting Options: Due to its slim profile, the soundbar fits in front of most flat-panel TVs without blocking the screen. If you prefer to wall-mount the speaker, the YAS-207 offers built-in keyhole slots (spaced 18" apart). Position the wireless powered subwoofer to the left or right of the center of the soundbar (wireless signal transmits up to 33'), and angle it slightly toward the center of the room to prevent sound from reflecting off walls.
Power Requirements: The active soundbar & wireless powered sub each come with a detachable 6' AC power cord which will need to be plugged into an AC outlet, surge protector, or power conditioner.
Auto Standby: The soundbar will automatically turn off when there is no operation for 8 hours, or not audio input and no operation for 20 minutes.

I was looking for a sound bar which was small but good quality, I only have about 35 inches to play with. After reading some of the reviews, I decided on this one. Yamaha makes good stuff so the reviews convinced me. Another nice thing is that it has 4k ability which is great. [ thomas Jul 17, 2018 ]

Have an early YAS-101 in my bedroom [from Crutchfield?], which had great reviews, and it's a breeze. Wanted to replace some big floor speakers in my living room, and this step-up to the 200 series was well recommended on your site. I'm going to rid myself of big speakers before I tackle the bigger challenge of upgrading the TV from 32 to 40 and to 4K. I'm a musician, and I'm ready to divest myself of old speakers! It will help complement myTV sorround system, with less wires which i dont have to run. [ Nikita A. May 18, 2018 ]
Reviews suggested good sound at a value price. I am a bit tentative about many reviews I have read on other sites suggesting that the low frequency crossover settings are not configured optimally, where voice frequencies will teter on the range of where the subwoofer is engaged leading to hollow, inconsistent dialogue depending on voice frequency, especially at lower volumes. I intend to download and install the latest firmware and see how it sounds. Hopefully it will not apply to my use case. [ E May 09, 2018 ]
Did a lot of research on the YAS 207 and came away with the opinion that it was the best product for me. Also I am familiar with Yamaha's reputation for quality products. [ David May 01, 2018 ]

I was looking for the higher end features of an affordable sound bar to complement my current Denon home AV receiver to help with dialogue but also for the ability to operate and/or change functions with my Android cell phone. This price is just right and I'm certain will add to my existing setup. Not sure what the optical cable will add but if I encounter difficulties I'll be certain to seek advisor advice. This sound bar has all the features we were looking for and great sound. [ Vicki Jul 03, 2017 ]
DTS-X is a serious upgrade when it becomes available for the soundbar in August 17. The slim profile works well in most setups. I currently own a Samsung soundbar that I bought from a local big box store Dolby atmos ONLY works when the content is encoded for it. This device is huge and expensive circa 1k new, it wont do what this does, ridiculous. All content should be made to sound like you are immersed at that price range like this 3-bills beauty. [ Derek Jul 01, 2017 ]
No, but you can upgrade it with the new firmware. Just download the last software from Yamaha web and follow the instructions. [ Wilfredo May 04, 2018 ]
no it will not work with anything like that [ jesse Mar 30, 2018 ]
To my knowledge, the Yamaha YAS-207 does not connect to the SONOS eco system. I have the YAS-207 connected to my TV and a separate SONOS Play 5 for music. [ Chern Mar 30, 2018 ]
Mine goes off with tv but I turn on each time. Have not put forth any effort to see if I could get to come on as well. [ Michael Jan 03, 2018 ]
No it does not. It has to be powered off separately. If you're looking at this for 3d sound because of dts x it is not a great performer. Reason: upward firing speakers like Dolby atmos systems are non existent. This was done in a 12x12 room with standard 8 ft. Ceilings. The encompassing 3d sound makes it seem louder and once in a great while with right content it can trick the ears but this is an extremely rare occurrence. [ Derek Jan 02, 2018 ]
Yes it does with the arc hdmi port. [ Andrew Jan 02, 2018 ]

I have never experienced this problem. [ Elizabeth Dec 01, 2017 ]
I have the opposite issue sometimes. I use an XBOX One S and it did the same thing with my Samsung sound bar. I think the handshake with the Xbox isn't the best. [ William Nov 30, 2017 ]
I am not aware of any method for connecting additional speaker to this soundbar. The bass module is a Bluetooth appliaance, of course, but other speaker connections are hardwired and internal. [ LowerColumbia Nov 30, 2017 ]
This sound bar doesn't have this ability on its own. If your source (assume HD TV) supports Bluetooth, you're on your way. I'm using this bar in a fairly large family room and the sound is fabulous - especially in its surround mode. [ Thomas Sheldon Nov 29, 2017 ]
When it's off, there are no lights. Even when it's on, there are no lights on. The lights only come on when you are changing settings. Then they turn off after a few seconds. [ Tom Dec 03, 2017 ]

The sound bar mounts with 2 non-included commercially available screws into drywall. The instruction manual provides a general recommendation for dimension ranges of screws that would work. A printed-out drill template is also included in the packaging so you can simply tape it up against the wall, and drill the two holes. [ Christopher Sep 06, 2017 ]
The Yamaha 207 has built in keyhole slots on the back so you can mount it on the wall with two screws Enter [ MELVIN Sep 05, 2017 ]
I've got super high ceilings, and it still fills the room really well. [ Adam Aug 28, 2017 ]
I installed this in two rooms which have high ceilings. For the price, I'm bery impressed. One of my locations is an outside cover porch with about 15' high ceiling. It's a large porch and the sound brings full deep rich experience. The set up was a breeze with wireless woofer. I also have ysp-5600 which brings more virtual speakers; however, the 207 is a better value and delivers. Try it! I had to send back one unused unit and Critchfield is a pleasure to works with... [ David Aug 28, 2017 ]
Had mine in a large room did not work well [ Gary Aug 28, 2017 ]
Yes, and it performs well. We have ours in a room with a 24 foot ceiling, and we are very happy with the sound quality. [ Tom Aug 28, 2017 ]
I have vaulted ceilings, system sounds great. Maybe not super loud, but I have small children and a dog, don't need an ear-bleeder system. Sound quality is excellent, though. Especially with the added voice clarification. [ Tyler Aug 28, 2017 ]
This will not work. The upgrade must be done via a USB drive. See Yamaha's website for specific upgrade instructions. [ AJ S. Aug 27, 2017 ]
I doubt it. You can download the firmware from a friends computer onto a USB drive. The firmware makes a huge difference in sound quality so it's definitely worth the trouble. [ Christopher Aug 24, 2017 ]
I have the same dilemma here, and have not found a way around it. Our phones and tablets seem to struggle with decompressing the file and the trick of downloading onto a USB chip. (Or the struggle is my own lack of savvy with the process!) I think I'm going to end up at a computer shop asking someone to do the deed on a Mac or PC so I can take the Zip drive home and plug it in. I am interested in hearing what all the hubbub is about. It is NOT possible to do a firmware update like that. My advice would be to go to someone's house, download on a NEW USB, (this is a must) and then perform the update. Let me know if you have more questions. [ Jonathan Aug 24, 2017 ]
I have no idea got to do the same to mine [ Fran Aug 24, 2017 ]
The only thing I can think of is to make sure the HDMI control on the tv hardware menu is set to digital out and the tv's internal speakers of disabled. [ Kerry Aug 10, 2017 ]
I had to change the input settings on my tv to the hdmi port that the sound bar was connected to. Then use the hdmi button on the sound bar remote to complete the process. You may have to use the menu screen on your tv and select sound then select a speaker other than your tv. It took me a whil [ IVAN Aug 10, 2017 ]
Have you try the HDMI input on the sound bar? Also, I have to change the Audio output under my TV setting in order to get the sound come out to the sounds bar on all devices. [ Gary Aug 09, 2017 ]
Mark, I had the same issue with connecting through the digital optical port. I had to go into settings for the TV itself under sound out. Its an LG TV and the options are to go through the TV speaker, HDMI, optical or wireless. [ Robert Aug 09, 2017 ]
Make sure you press the HDMI button on the remote. [ Gregory Aug 09, 2017 ]

Hi, is possible, but this is my first time with a Yamaha product. [ Wilfredo Jul 27, 2017 ]
Yes. If your TV supports HDMI CEC and connect the Yamaha to your TV with an HDMI cable, it is possible to adjust the volume of the sound bar using your TV's remote. You will find this information, and more, by clicking the "Details" tab on the speaker's main webpage and scrolling down below the "Features & Specs" table. I hope that helps. I did not see the head phone jack on it. Possibly because it is Bluetooth enabled? But no, from what I can tell, it doesn't. [ Adam Jul 25, 2017 ]

Not wired headphones but this system does offer Bluetooth [ Gary Jul 25, 2017 ]
I don't expect that we will add extended warranties on products that don't currently have them. [ Jeff Jul 10, 2017 ] Staff
