Easy access to PC music, Internet radio, and more
This receiver gives you convenient wireless access to digital music files and photos stored on your PC via your Wi-Fi® home network. It also lets you tap into the world of Internet radio via your broadband connection. A rear-panel USB port lets you plug in a USB flash drive loaded with your favorite tunes.

Surround sound from just two speakers
Exclusive Yamaha surround processing technology makes it possible for the YMC-700 to achieve realistic home theater sound from a single pair of front left and right speakers — ideal for rooms that lack space for a full surround speaker system, or when you simply don't want to clutter up your living room. You'll hear clear dialogue from the front, with distinctly separate sounds to the sides and behind you. And you can add a powered subwoofer for greater sonic impact. Of course, if you want full-blown surround sound, you can connect a complete five-speaker system for truly room-filling multi-channel music and movies.

Quick, accurate auto setup
The YMC-700 uses Yamaha's sophisticated YPAO auto-calibration system to allow easy, precise home theater setup. Plug in the included microphone and place it in your favorite seat. The receiver analyzes the size, volume, relative distance, and frequency response of every speaker in your home theater system, adjusting the settings for each one individually. In minutes, your receiver configures itself for optimum performance with your specific speakers and their placement within the room.

Convenient video switching and high-res sound
This receiver's HDMI connections let you switch easily among three digital HD sources — like a high-def satellite or cable box, game console, and a Blu-ray player — while maintaining pristine digital picture and sound quality. Analog-to-HDMI conversion means you can send your older, non-digital video sources to your TV through a single HDMI cable. And the YMC-500 can decode Dolby® TrueHD, a high-resolution surround sound format found on many newer Blu-ray Discs™, for a totally immersive surround experience.

Simply an amazing Home Theater Receiver!! :)

Robert M from Virginia on 11/15/2011

Overall this is an outstanding Home A/V receiver it has many wonderful features and included an update which added Pandora Internet Radio which is an amazing addition. The Yamaha team and engineers that developed this receiver should be very proud of producing such an excellent piece of audio/video equipment. I plan on keeping it for many years. Ability to streaming Netflix would have been a great addition, however most DVD receivers/Game Systems have that capability now. Ability to control receiver via an Apple app. is great however I wish an Android app. would be developed. Turns Ipod touch/Iphone into remote control. Yamaha's Customer service is excellent when I had network setting issues preventing the Ipod app to contact the receiver. As far as the sound quality, I give it 5 stars just on this feature alone, was hesitant since I couldn't locate any documentation on amplifier info/wattage per channel for the receiver but I would say it is very sufficient since it powers an older set of Home speakers nice and clearly, looking forward upgrading to a newer set of 5.1 speakers & sub. Currently using without sub, and its still sounds superb! I truly hope that Yamaha continues to develop this line of Home Receivers, I will definetly purchase a newer (NeoHD) receiver in the future, keeping my fingers crossed Yamaha will not drop this product line! I never had an issue with software updates via WiFi, possibly an issue that was resolved by my purchase date.

Pros: Compact size, simple design, Easy to use! Plenty of extra features including built in WiFi Pandora/Internet Radio is wonderful! Plenty of HDMI inputs. Perfect clear sound, even with older speakers.

Cons: Optional Bluetooth, not built-in! No LCD screen on Unit for users without Ipod touch/Iphones. NeoHd app isn't available for Android market!

Great System I really Like it

    Dave from Covington on 4/3/2011

If you want better than Bose simplicity with Yamaha Quality sound, and Internet Radio. Than this is for you. You can start out with 2.1 speaker setup, and go up to 5.1. The interface is good and though not perfect it really makes things easy. The "quick setup poster makes things a little more difficult than it needs to be, and your TV or Monitor needs to be HDMI, but its about the size of a Bose 321, and the Sound with infinity L& R and Yamaha Sub is better than the Bose, and Better than my Yamaha 550. I am using a Two wire DSL Modem and a Gigbyte switch and internet radio streams great. You can just put all your Music and Pictures on a USB thumb drive too and that works great! Havent explored tried serving up pictures sound and Video? over my computer yetially to it, but that capacity is suppose to be there. One note I intially bought a Infinity sub, and it would go into standby mode and turn off the sub. Crutchfield's tech support thought it was the NEO, but I exchanged it anyway for a Yamaha Sub, and it works perfect. The Yamaha compact sub has an always on, and its a better fit because of its size. It doesnt put out distorted "rap style" bass, but it has a nice tight bass sound

    Has network issues

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit from Amazon at the Crutchfield store. The first unit was installed, set up. I tried to update the firmware via the network and it would just hang the unit. So I used the USB drive and was able to update it. I could not get the internet radio to work, I called support at Yamaha and they said the unit was bad, send it back. 2 weeks later I received my new unit (that piece worked as it should, no stars off for the return) But the new unit had the same problem. I said a-ha must be a network issue, Yamaha said no if my computer could get out their unit should too, and that only port 80 was used. After debugging the issue I found that my internet router and my DHCP server were using DNS servers out on the internet (my company DNS servers) This was the issue/problem. When I set my router to use my company DNS servers and pointed the NeoHD to my router as DSN this fixed the problem. I called Yamaha to tell them I found a work around and they didn't seem interested or even willing to take notes or have somebody technical contact me. For that piece alone I took away 1 star from Yamaha. The other star is was taken away because the video is degraded when it passes though this unit. If I plug my Tivo to the NeoHD then to my TV the picture quality is lower than if I just plug the HDMI cable directly to the TV. I'm only keeping the unit because I like the size and the sound, but I wire my HDMI directly from my TiVo to TV and not though the box. /A

    Great Interface

Eddie from Atlanta, GA on 2/8/2010

Very nice network receiver with intuitive on screen universal remote. I've put 6 into client projects in the last few months and have been very pleased with it's clever delivery of thousands of dollars worth of features, for far smaller budgets. The best way I have found to install this receiver, is leaving the YMC-700 out on a cabinet top, with all of the source components hidden below. With a HDMI and IR emitter to the TV, you have complete control of everything. Although, some clients still prefer their cable or satellite remote, when it comes to DVR navigation.

    Input and Output Notes

neoHD: The YMC-700 is a new surround sound receiver design, using a simple remote control to navigate an intuitive on-screen GUI (Graphic User Interface). The YMC-700 controls other components using its virtual (on-screen) remote and the included IR flashers connected to the remote control outputs on the rear panel. When connected to your home network you can play music stored on your computer and with a broadband internet connection listen to internet radio and access the Rhapsody music service (subscription to Rhapsody required, 30 day free trial included).

Video Conversion: Because the only video output on the YMC-700 is HDMI, the composite and component video inputs are converted to HDMI for transfer to the TV. Your TV must have an HDMI input to be compatible with this unit. Note: This unit does not have S-Video inputs or outputs.

Remote Control: The receiver comes with a basic, but versatile wireless remote control. The receiver has codes built-in to control multiple brands of TVs, Blu-ray and DVD players, DVRs, cable and satellite receivers, CD players, etc. If not built-in, remote codes can also be learned from another remote. The remote has relatively few buttons, but can engage a virtual remote on-screen to expand its control over the receiver and the other components. Commands are chosen using the cursor and enter buttons on the remote and transferred to other components via the included IR flashers.

GUI: The YMC-700 features a new GUI (Graphic User Interface) with easy to use on-screen display icons. The GUI is activity based; you first select Watch, Listen, or Play (what sources are associated with each is programmable); then choose a source. The Automatic Operation Flow function then turns on the selected source and changes the receiver to that input.

YPAO Technology: This unit employs the YPAO (Yamaha Parametric Acoustic Optimizer), which automatically adjusts the output of the speakers based on placement, performance, and the room's acoustic characteristics. Using the supplied Optimizer Microphone, YPAO performs the following checks and makes appropriate adjustments to give you the best possible sound from your system.

Network: The YMC-700 has both wired and wireless options to easily connect to your home network. Using Windows Media Player 11, you can retrieve music and photos from your PCs and play them through the YMC-700. A TwonkyMedia server software license key is included to support MAC and MPEG-4 AAC files. If your network includes broadband internet, the built-in vTuner Internet Radio database service provides access to over 2,000 radio stations and a 30-day free trial subscription to the Rhapsody music service is included, with millions of songs available to play on demand.

DLNA Certified: This unit carries a DLNA certification, ensuring that it has been tested and proven compatible with various CE, PC, and mobile devices designed according to the DLNA Interoperability Guidelines. Products certified by DLNA will bear a logo that will give consumers peace of mind that the device they are purchasing has undergone rigorous testing and conforms to the Interoperability Guidelines.

iPod Universal Dock: With the optional YDS-11 iPod Universal Dock (item number 022YDS11), you can connect your iPod digital music player to the YMC-700 and control audio and video playback using the remote control. Most fourth generation and later iPods (Click Wheel) are compatible. Video from your iPod and album art can be displayed on the connected TV monitor.

Bluetooth: An optional YBA-10 Bluetooth adapter (item number 022YBA10) can be connected to the dock port on the YMC-700 to allow you to stream audio wirelessly from your compatible Bluetooth device.

Note: Either the iPod dock or Bluetooth dock can be connected to the receiver, not both.

USB: The receiver is equipped with a USB port on the rear panel for use with a USB flash memory drive. Supported file types include WAV (PCM format only), MP3, WMA, MPEG-4 AAC, and FLAC.

Compressed Music Enhancer: Compressed formats such as MP3, WMA, and AAC generally remove high and low frequency harmonic information, resulting in a loss of fidelity. The Compressed Music Enhancer regenerates the missing harmonics in compression artifacts and compensates for the loss of low- and high-frequencies to provide improved performance.

Surround Modes: The YMC-700 offers the following Surround modes:

    • Decoding Formats:
      • Dolby TrueHD
      • Dolby Digital Plus
      • Dolby Digital
      • DTS Digital Surround
      • DTS 96/24
    • Air Surround Xtreme: This virtual surround technology simulates playback of a multi-channel signal using two speakers and a subwoofer.
    • DSP Modes:
      • Movie: when not using Dolby TrueHD or Dolby Digital Plus
      • Entertainment: used with TV and video games
      • Live Music: used with live music content
      • Music Enhancer: enhances playback of compressed music files
      • All Channel stereo: outputs a stereo signal from all connected speakers

Speaker Setup: This feature allows you to manually adjust the following speaker settings:

    • Bass Out: select the speakers that will output the LFE (low-frequency effect) channel and the other low-frequency signals
    • Speaker Sizes: select from the following speaker sizes for each speaker in your system:
      • Front: Large or Small
      • Center: Large, Small, or None
      • Surround: Large, Small, or None
    • Crossover: select the crossover frequency for all the speakers set to Small; choose between 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 160, and 200Hz
    • Subwoofer Phase: switch the phase of your subwoofer between Normal and Reverse
    • Speaker Level: adjust the output level of each channel independently

Dynamic Range: The amount of dynamic range compression applied to bitstream signals is adjustable; Min/Auto is suitable for low volume listening, Standard is typical for home use, and Max doesn't compress the dynamic range at all.

Adaptive DRC (Dynamic Range Control): During low-volume listening, such as late as night, dynamic range suffers and some sounds are missed. The effect of Adaptive DRC varies with volume, at lower volume the dynamic range is narrowed.

Lip Sync: The YMC-700's HDMI version 1.3a supports automatic lip sync, to synchronize the system audio and video. If your TV isn't compatible with auto lip sync, the audio delay can be set manually from 0 to 240 ms in 1 ms increments.

HDMI Through: When the YMC-700 is in standby mode (power off), the HDMI Through feature allows an HDMI source signal to pass through the receiver to the TV.

Power Specifications Note: No power output specifications are available on the neoHD receivers.

    Input and Output Notes

HDMI Inputs/Output: There are three 1.3a HDMI inputs and one output on the rear panel. These HDMI jacks can be used for 2-channel and multi-channel linear PCM (up to 8-channel) and Bitstream (Dolby Digital, DTS, etc) digital audio formats as well as digital video signals up to 1080p resolution (including 1080/24p). They also support Deep Color (30 bit and 36 bit), x.v.Color, and auto Lip-Sync compensation.

A/V Inputs: The YMC-700 has one composite video and two component video inputs, along with one coaxial digital, one optical digital, and one analog stereo RCA audio input. During the initial input setup, each of the video inputs can be paired with any free audio inputs (once a combination is selected, neither that audio nor that video connection is available in the menu for the next device setting).

Network: The RJ-45 jack on the rear panel is used as a wired connection to your home network. There is also an antenna on the rear panel to wirelessly connect to your network, compatible with 802.11 b and g routers.

Speaker Terminals: The receiver has spring clip speaker terminals for the front, center, and surround channels. The spring clips can accept pin connectors and bare wire up to 14 gauge.

Remote Jacks: The receiver has one remote input and three remote output mini-jack terminals for use with the included IR flashers, external IR receivers, and other compatible Yamaha components.
