Not impressed with iPod adapter

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this head unit for my wife because it was one of the head units that offered a direct adapter for the iPod. Since she loves to listen to her iPod (especially when driving), I thought she'd appreciate the fact that she could listen to the iPod directly through the car's speakers instead of through the headphones.<BR><BR>Well, I imagined that she'd be able to view the titles on the face of the head unit and that she'd be able to select her playlist and then play through the playlist, but the unit does not offer these features. It simply plays through all of the songs in the iPod's library in a random fashion and the up/down buttons spin through the songs using this random order. If you try to go back to a song, you'll find it impossible to do so (and sometimes a bit fustrating) because it even selects random songs when you click the down arrow.<BR>

Great Inexpensive CD/MP3 Player w/ one major flaw

Gabe from Seattle, WA on 3/9/2006

I bought this unit since it was inexpensive, simple, and matched my BMW's interior. Installation was simple and took about an hour. The XBass function is great for having some bass at lower volumes. The menu system is easy to use and really only had to look up one or two things in the instruction booklet. One thing that I don't like is how the mp3 tags only scroll at the beginning and there is now way to see it again while the song is playing. One major flaw is that the unit inserts spaces between songs no matter what (even on store bought, factory pressed CD's). I've never run across a CD player that has this problem. I listen to many continuous DJ mixes and every time the track switches there is a second of annoying silence. I've now noticed that I have many CD's that are continuously mixed including Pink Floyd - The Wall. Actually, I think I'm going to upgrade to an Alpine unit and take the loss on this one.<BR><BR>Pros:<BR>-Inexpensive<BR>-Plays all kinds of MP3's<BR>-Easy to install and setup<BR><BR>Cons: <BR>-Buttons feel cheap<BR>-Inserts an annoying gap on all CD's

Blaupunkt Bermuda MP35

Michael from Seattle, WA on 11/17/2005

I like the receiver itself. Sound is excellent. The only complaint I have is with the Ipod adapter for it. It allows you to control your Ipod from your receiver w/ awesome sound. The only bad thing about the adapter is that if you buy this particular model (Bermuda), you can't read the MP3 ID3 tags or can't read past 999 songs. Skipping to the next song is very slow. You have to buy the more expensive models to display the tags on your LCD screen.

Complete Blaupunkt system for my used '95 Firebird for $200!!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the Bermuda head unit so I could play MP3 CD's. I added 4 $29.99 Blaupunkt speakers to replace the stock speakers. The sound is remarkable for this price, my 17 year old daughter loves it too. I will add a small sub later to add a little bump, but my music sound 300% better than stock already.<BR><BR>The range on the remote is not the greatest, but is plenty good for my uses. It keeps me from having to look down at the stereo on the freeway while changing songs, stations or volume.

A terrific value!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm thoroughly satisfied with this headunit. The feature I most desired was the ability to play MP3 CDs and it does that perfectly. The sound is great through the factory speakers. The controls are easily readable at night, which has been a major peeve on many other car stereos I've owned. <BR><BR>Two minor knocks:<BR><BR>I'd like the MP3 song name scroll continuously, but as is just displays at the beginning of the track.<BR><BR>The CD eject button is too close to the faceplate detach button and if you're trying to keep your eyes on the road while ejecting a CD, it's too easy to hit the wrong button.<BR><BR>Overall in feature/performance to price analysis, this unit is a terrific value...and it's Blaupunkt to boot!<BR>

Not to shabby

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is definitely a good radio for the price. The sound is great, and I set it up with the aux-in attachment to play my Shuffle through it, which works great.<BR><BR>The issues that I have so far are: 1) the remote only works if pointed directly at the face (won't work from an angle). 2) the display is a little bit hard to read during the day (no trouble at night). 3) the clock doesn't stay in the display if you are using the aux-in.<BR><BR>Crutchfield installation support was great. This was the first time I had ever done this and had some questions, but no trouble installing it with a little assurance over the phone. Now I wish I had done my wife's radio and saved a few hundred.<BR><BR>Definitely recommend this radio and Crutchfield to anyone.

Good Sounds at a Good Price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this radio for a couple weeks now and I'm happy with it. It plays well and clear using my factory speakers. I wanted something that would play MP3 and that also had an aux input to plug in my XM radio to and it does both well. <BR><BR>I like the fact that the adapter for the aux input was only 10 bucks unlike other brands that I saw going for 30-40 for their input adapters.<BR><BR>The only things I've found to nit pick over are:<BR>1. You need to get ridiculously close to the radio for the remote to work.<BR><BR>2. When it displays the title on MP3 songs (doesn't seem to do it with regular CDs) it only scrolls the name at the beginning of the song then it switches back to the boring T01 or T02 etc (Track 1). I'm not sure if this is the "standard", but it takes away from the cool factor.<BR><BR>3. The clock doesnt always display (unless the unit is off). You have to push a button to see the time briefly.<BR><BR>These are probably minor annoyances depending on how important these are to you. All in all I'm happy with it.

Great Price for a Great Stereo

Josh from Raleigh, NC on 8/5/2005

Great stereo with tons of features for little money. Memory eliminates disk skips. MP3 payback is great.. it even reads CDRWs!!! Remote control could use a little more range.. It only seems to work within about 5 feet of the stereo faceplate.. Removable faceplate is a plus.. Easy to use menus.... I like that you can listen to the stereo without having the ignition on, but it is smart enough to turn itself off if left unattended... Crutchfield Install Kit/Instructions are excellent! Great stereo/cd/mp3 player for those on a budget!

Changer Controls

EQ: The Blaupunkt Bermuda MP35 features a preset EQ sound effect for specific types of music. In addition to bass and treble adjustments, you can select the Rock, Pop, or Classic preset EQ setting. Note: You can set separate bass and treble levels for each source, but the EQ effect is applied to all audio sources.

X-Bass: The X-Bass feature can be used to boost the bass at low volume levels. You can set the X-Bass boost to one of three levels. The X-Bass feature, when activated,  is applied to all sources.

Power-On Volume: You can choose the volume setting at which the receiver plays when it is turned on. In the menu, you can choose "Last Volume" and the unit will be set to the same volume level as when it was last turned off. The maximum "Last Volume" setting is 38. If you turned off the unit with the volume setting higher than 38, the unit will default to a turn-on volume of 38. You can also choose a default volume setting between minimum and maximum (0-66) Note: If the power-on volume is set to a high level, you can possibly damage your hearing or your audio equipment.

Ignition Off Turn-On: The unit can be turned on manually even if the ignition is turned off. The receiver will stay on in this mode for approximately one hour and will automatically shut itself off to avoid running down the battery.

Travel Store: You can automatically store the strongest 6 AM and 6 FM station using the Travel Store function. These presets are stored in bands FMT and AMT.

Adjustable Scan Tuning: The scan feature briefly plays all the receivable stations. You can set the scanning time between 5 and 30 seconds. Note: When the radio scan time is changed, it also resets the CD intro scan time for the in-dash player and the connected CD changer.

Shock Proof Memory: The CD player has a memory buffer of 10 seconds for CDs and 100 seconds for MP3 discs to virtually eliminate skipping and drop outs, even on the roughest roads.

MP3 Playback: The Bermuda MP35 can play MP3 files recorded onto CD-Rs and CD-RWs. The format of the CD-R or CD-RW must be ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2 or Joliet. Each disc can have a maximum of 252 directories and 999 files, with up to 255 files in one directory. During MP3 playback, you have 5 display options:

  • Track/File Number and Play Time
  • Track/File Number and Clock
  • Directory Number and Track/File Number
  • Directory Number and Clock
  • Directory Number and Play Time

MP3 ID3 Tags: The unit will display MP3 ID3 tags. You can select to display the directory name, file name, artist name, song name, or album name when available.

Telephone Mute: If the receiver is connected to a mobile telephone with an external mute circuit, the receiver's volume is muted whenever the mobile telephone is "picked up." The power wiring harness contains a telephone mute wire that must be connected to the phone's mute circuit in order for this feature to function.

Auxiliary Input Capable: You can connect an auxiliary input source, such as a portable MiniDisc/DVD/MP3 player instead of a CD changer. The external audio source will require an adapter cable (023AUXIN1R).

RC-12H Remote Control: The Bermuda MP35 comes with the RC-12H credit card-sized remote control. In addition, this unit is compatible with the following optional remotes: RC 08 and RC 10. The RC-12H remote has the following functions: Source Select, Mute, Volume Up/Dn, Select Up/Dn/Left/Right. The unit cannot be turned on or off with the remote.

Clock Display Note: In the menu, you can select the unit for "Clock On" or "Clock Off" operation. When set to "Clock On", the clock will continue to display and the buttons remain illuminated after the unit is turned off as long as the ignition is in the "On" or "Accessory" position. When set to "Clock Off", the display and button illumination is turned off when the unit is turned off. The clock will display the time for approximately 8 seconds when the "Display" button is pushed, even if the unit and the ignition are in "Off" position.

Clock Mode: You can set the clock display to 12-hour or 24-hour mode.

Changer Controls

Compatibility: This head unit can directly control the following Blaupunkt changers: CDC A 03, CDC A 08, and IDC A 09.

Display Options: During CD changer operation, you have 5 display options:

  • Track Number and Play Time
  • Track Number and Clock
  • CD Number and Track Number
  • CD Number and Clock
  • CD Number and Play Time
