Solid little speakers for a near-factory replacement.
1992 Volvo 240 Series
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
These speakers sound far better than the early 1990s factory models in my Volvo. The quirk of them is that you should really endeavor to use the factory speaker mounts if you can, if they're not broken, on a Volvo 240. The included new covers won't easily fit the door contours without spacers and further adapters, and the original plastic mounts will allow use of the factory speaker covers as well as providing some reinforcement to the older door panel. If you drill out the rivets holding the plastic factory mounts to your front door panels (this takes longest of any part), you can screw these new speakers right into the same rivet holes using the included reinforcement clips. The Volvo door mounts need to have the plastic trimmed a little around the screw holes to fit the metal of the speaker frame, but it's easy with a utility knife or dremel. Make sure you trim equally to center the speaker and screw holes--it's only a few millimeters worth of plastic in the way. Took me about an hour to remove both front door panels, remove my original speakers, and install these new ones. Easy peasy, just be careful with the brittle plastics and MDF of the door panel. Works great! Just a very minor set of adjustments to make them fit. Sound spectacular by comparison, and they're actually smaller than the 5.25" factory speakers while still fitting in the predrilled factory holes.
Pros: Sound great. Near-factory fit. Only very minor adjustment. Look nice.
Cons: Requires minor adjustment to fit in factory mounts
