Sound controls and system expansion

The San Francisco includes a built-in amp with plenty of power, and you can tweak the sound with a 3-band parametric equalizer that lets you select specific frequencies to boost or cut. You'll appreciate the two sets of preamp outputs if you plan to connect external amps or a powered sub.

Note: We made a special purchase on this Blaupunkt receiver, and it's a great deal. Keep in mind that you'll have to activate the AM tuner and reset the FM tuner for American stations — the process is explained in the manual. Also, this receiver does not come with a warranty, but it is covered by our 60-day satisfaction guarantee.

The strong design and no problems with activating the AM/FM tuner for

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really like the strong design of this radio. I especially like the fact that internal frame with buttons is not a plastic that is colored as the metal, but it is the real metal. If anyone has any problems with activating the AM tuner and reset the FM tuner for American stations, take the time to read the menu and press the MENU button to open the user menu. Then, in the "TUNER" menu use the TUNER AREA (reception area) in order to select the reception area for the radio reception (able to shift from Europe to USA.) After that, in the "TUNER" menu use the BAND (band selection) in order to activate required memory banks (AM and AMT.) So, you can select AM stations.

Pros: The Strong Design, Sound Quality, Build Quality

Cons: does not recognize more than one folder level on USB flash drive and SD card

high quality, moderately featured. very happy.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit is a great replacement for a car with or without a premium Bose system. this product does everything its supposed to do. it's a high quality moderately featured unit. SD card is very handy. i don't use an iPod, but it does have some iPod features. does a great job playing mp3s and cds. i'm very happy with this unit.

Pros: well constructed, SD card reader can use up to 32gb cards. sound quality is very good. install was a breeze. mp3 functions work great from SD,cd and usb.

Cons: menu navigation took a little getting used to, but it works fine. you can shuffle/repeat but you can't create playlists. big SD cards take about 30/40 seconds to read.

Great Sound, but Buggy Buttons and VERY Limited iPod Playability

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First let me say this unit does work as advertised. Sound is great and the looks are very very nice. However, I experienced some glitches. Sometimes when you push a button, nothing happens. Other times, when a button is pushed, the unit acts as if I had pushed the next button over! Also, the time displays in hh -- mm format instead of hh:mm format and no way, as far as I could find, to change it. Although not a deal-breaker, it is quite annoying. 9 -- 30 PM just doesn't look right. The worst issue, by far, however, is that it is extremely limited in how you can listen to your iPod through the USB. This IS a deal-breaker for me and in my opinion is VERY IMPORTANT. If you intend use your iPod a lot with this unit, PLEASE READ THIS: this unit can only access the Artist, Album, and Genre sections on the iPod! No Playlists, no Podcasts, etc. If you want to listen to playlists or podcasts, you have to use the 1/8 analog auxiliary connection! This is a ridiculous limitation and should never be the case on a unit of this quality! Fortunately, Crutchfield gave me a great, no-hassle exchange. Thanks, Crutchfield!

Pros: Great Quality Over All Great Sound Quality Great Looks

Cons: Buttons Buggy Odd Time Format No Ability to Listen to Playlists or Podcasts (my two most common ways to listen on my iPod) when connecting the iPod through USB

    Great sounding unit

Phil L from Denver CO on 1/19/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I removed a Honda unit from my 2002 Odyssey hoping to get some better sound with aan inexpensive Kenwood unit but after installing it I was disappointed with the sound quality and especially the FM reception. The Kenwood unit looked very cool but looks only get you so far. I saw the Blaupunkt San Fran 310 for only $10 more so I ordered it to see how it compared to the Kenwood, well, no comparison, the Balupunkts' sound quality was FAR superior to the kenwood and the FM reception is crystal clear. I agree that using these German made units take some reading and figuring out but who cares man, read and figure it out. I can't believe these people who say they can't figure out how to program the USA mode to get AM stations, perhaps they should go back to high school and learn how to comprehend. Bottom line, for the money these units kick butt, I love my Blaupunkt and would buy another.

Pros: Sound quality and power plus crystal clear FM reception.

Cons: Not easy to use until you READ the manual and figure out what the buttons do.

Struggle with Settings - Very Complex and Confusing

DonW from Peoria, IL on 1/13/2013

    1998 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have attempted to carefully follow the Instructions in English and have had consistent problems in effort to Set-up. The instructions are fragmented and complex and I am unable to shift from Europe to USA so I can select AM stations. The radio was installed in 1998 Mercedes 230 C by my Mercedes dealer who simply handed me the instruction book and sent me out the door (they installed the radio as service but are not responsible for performing the settings. This is far too difficult set of instructions that requires one hop around from page to page without straightforward clear sequence of instrructons for different settings. I am so frustrated after 3 days of working with the Blaupunkt San Francisco 310 instructions that I am seriously considering having a big box stores techs install one of their popular radios so I will be able to use it and receive AM stations.

    Great stereo, great features

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced the cassette player in our '98 Camry (with 65000 miles, we have a few more years to enjoy it). Straightforward, simple install, if you remember to remove the DIN bracket clips along with the bracket (Oops). Use of SD cards or USB memory sticks is awesome...I got 200 albums (about 2500 tracks) on an 8 Gb stickl. The fun now is finding an album/teack until I learn all the albuim names. Working through the entire Setup Menu took a little while, but is well worth it. Car has the premium OEM speaker package, and this unit sounds great, with plenty of power. Can normally run the volume at a level of 6 to 10 out of 50. Beyond 20 it is ridiculous. Wife and I are very pleased. PS: Download the Blaupunkt manual from their website, as the supplied one isn't the greatest, unless you need 15 languages!

    Pros: Everything

    Cons: None

    A winner.

    1986 Porsche 911 Turbo
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this as a replacement stereo for my Porsche 1986 911 turbo. Installation was extemely easy, but the function settings took a few minutes longer to learn than I expected. Crutchfield does not recommend this unit for my car, but I'm not sure why. It fit perfectly fine in the space available and wiring was a breeze. It has very good power and a nice clean sound with aftermarket Infinity front speakers. I can't testify to the use of my i-pod with it, but it is supposed to be compatible. It really is a bargain at the price I paid for it.

Pros: great sound and power, simple easy-to- use controls, clean style

    Cons: No AM radio band
