Denon AVR-1613 from Detroit, MI on 8/30/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the Denon AVR-1612 which stopped coming on. Crutchfield sent me the Denon AVR-1613 as an exchange since the Denon AVR-1612 was discontinued. I love this unit especially the Apple Air Play for my IPHONE, IPAD, APPLE MAC AIR. This feature was a blessing in disguise !!!!! It was not on the Denon AVR-1612

    Denon Customer Service Is TERRIBLE

    Julie from SC on 3/27/2014

Purchased in August of 2012 and the Amp worked didnt work well from the start.. Tuner never worked well despite our extra outdoor antenna. Unit would also freeze up at various times. AM/FM tuner quit working in March of 2014, just shy of our warranty expiring. Called Crutchfield for help and they walked me through some troubleshooting but werent able to fix it, they referred me to Denon. After my experience with Denon customer service I'll never buy their product again. They're rude, vague in their answers and provided as little help as possible. Had to email our receipt to get them to open a work ticket, then a week later I get a voice mail telling me to ship it to one of their repair partners. So I call Denon for clarification and get a different rude customer service person, who tells me to include our receipt and that they have no idea how long it will take to repair - we need to talk to the repair partner about that. A day after shipping I get a call from the repair partner asking what is wrong with the Amp. REALLY??? Denon hasnt relayed this information to them??? So I go thru the spiel again and am told it'll probably take a week to fix.

    Pros: none

Cons: doesnt last, customer service is terrible

Arrived quick, easy to get running with DISH. Great FM reception with my antenna on weak stations. Could not hook up my old DVD player with RCA or component inputs. Love the front USB input. Still have not tried the internet radio, I need to run a cable to it.

Pros: Great sound, nice to be able to watch DISH on TV with unit off with pass thru.

Cons: No RCA inputs, have to buy all new HDMI components, no AM, no digital FM radio.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am a person , who tends to research over market and product features before taking on a product . My budget to set up a Home theatre system was around $500-600 . I could have spent few 200 up to get to Bose speakers , But upon researching and listening to the set up of Denon and Polk audio speakers which I bought to hook up to Denon Receiver . I was justified in not going for Bose high end Home theater system .This receiver is one of the best in line entries to Receivers , It has all the great features to Rock your space in just about right bucks out of pocket . I am loving my Denon receiver with Polk audio 5.1 speakers. In all , I am very much happy with this buy from Crutchfield .

Pros: Great Sound quality . Great connection devices. Reasonable price. 5 HDMI Ports.

    Cons: None

This receiver does everything you would want It has more than enough inputs and has all the features you should want. I did not hook it up to internet so can't comment on that. Setup was very easy I use banana plugs which makes connections even easier. A good purchase

Pros: Easy setup, good sound quality

Cons: Remote layout is just ok

This Denon is alot better than my previous Sony AVR...clean, powerful and warm sounding. It seems to power my speakers better too, despite its lower wattage rating than the Sony. The Audyssey auto-cal is a really nice feature:). Solid build quality. Way to go Denon!:)

I bought this AVR for my LCD TV. Was looking at sound bars and very happy I spent a couple hundred more on my system. I added Infinity Primus P163 bookshelf speakers. TV speakers are so weak and the sound bars are a little better but this system is very clear. Blu-Ray, TV, FM Stereo and Xbox all sound great!

Pros: 4 HDMI standby pass-through Good clear sound for the price

    Cons: none

Recently we made our first purchase with Crutchfield buying the aggressively priced Denon AVR-1613. We bought with confidence knowing Denon quality coupled with highly acclaimed Crutchfield customer service. Our Advisor Larry was very informative and assisted us prior to and throughout transaction. Item was delivered in a timely fashion and was well packaged for protection. Upon reconsideration, we decided to return the receiver in favor of multi zone unit enabling stereo speakers on back porch. The return process was painless with Crutchfield team who promptly issued UPS return shipping label and refund shortly thereafter. We will not hesitate to go with Crutchfield again as competitive pricing, superior service and lifetime technical support are a formidable combination. Crutchfield indeed sets the bar high for the competition.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My Yamaha v661 was having trouble with the 1.2a hdmi inputs, so I took a risk and purchased this reciever seeing that it had very good reviews. The yamha gave out 95w per channel so already I was expecting "weaker" sound but I was wrong, this thing has enough power to make my Polk tsi 200 scream. The auto setup was a breeze and the onscreen display though the hdmi is a huge plus. The suround sound is very in your face pure strong sound and the 3D hdmi pass though works great. I am still a yamaha fan but Denon has got my attention.

Pros: Pure powerful sound with no distortion.

Cons: No 7.1 surround sound but I really do not need it.

Have had the receiver for about 3 weeks. Can not say enough good things. Easy setup, sound is great, and easy to operate. Only thing is in order to get Pandora to work must update firmware. Only took a few minutes. i would recommend this receiver to anyone looking for a quality mid price home theater receiver.

Pros: Ease of setup Ease of use Sound and overall quality

Cons: none that i can find

Had to update my previous Denon receiver because of new TV with HDMI connections. I was very pleased with the previous Denon plus I noticed not many other receivers had a connection for my powered subwoofer.

Pros: Reduced my previous 10 connections to 2 connections. Like set up instructions and speaker set up with microphone.

Cons: I know, save the trees but the last Denon had a printed manual. This model made in China (what isn't anymore). I hope it lasts as long as my previous unit (10 years).

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great reciever for the price with lots of high end features. I replaced an older aging 5 year old Denon receiver with this one and it is amazing the advancements they made. The airplay works as advertised and i was able to tie my entire itune library into it. The onscreen set up feature made life much easier. However the best feature was the Audyssey auto calibration. It configures each speaker output to the sound of the room you're setting it up in. It has woke up my back channel speakers , and i finally realizes what I have been missing

Pros: Easy set up, price, high end features

    Cons: None

Can't beat the price, the surround sound is GREAT. The only reason I give 4 stars is because I had a very hard time connecting the speaker wire to the back of the unit.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great Receiver, I use it simply to play music via Air Play in 2 zones in the house. Remote is basic and intuitive. I had some glitches connecting to internet and playing the zones properly, I am sure it was my ignorance versus the receiver being difficult but patience is required to figure things out.

Pros: Great Looking, internet ready and Air Play for a decent price with App. to use for Apple device

Cons: Internet set up possibly difficult and speaker zones. More than likely my ignorance however.

    Excellent product, great price

Simple and to the point. Very good product, very good price. Absolutely outstanding customer service.

Pros: Easy to set up. No component inputs (I list this as a pro because that leaves less clutter on the back). Nice looking unit. Smaller than the AVR-590 it replaced, yet same power.

Cons: I wish there was a way to listen to music in stereo mode with LFE channel working at the same time.

Seems like a good unit. Took me awhile to figure out all the connections but that was just unfamiliarity with terminology of different component hook ups

Pros: It does everything I want it to do.

Cons: Also would prefer if there was a copy of instruction booklet to have beside me when I am connecting components. I suppose I could just print off pages that I needed, but I prefer the other way.

I bought this reciever because my much more expensive Pioneer receiver quit working for the second time in two years. It was less than five years old. This Denon sounds much better and is much easier to setup and use. Seamlessly installed into my home theatre network.

Pros: Easy set up, excellent sound

Cons: Although the specs mention that it is Apple AirPlay compatible, if you cannot physically link it to your computer you need to buy an adapter for a WiFi connection.

    Very pleased

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced an older Denon surround sound receiver with the AVR1613 and so far I have been very well pleased. I was glad to get the addition of several hdmi inputs and the mobile app for my android works well for added convenience and control. In hindsight, I do wish I had stepped up to a higher model for the added second zone and ability to extend the audio to other areas but that was my own fault. Overall very pleased.

Pros: Easy setup. Plugged right in to my home network and media server, as well as internet services such as Pandora.

Cons: Havent really discovered any yet.

I have been using this receiver with my Onkyo speakers after my Onkyo receiver died. Crutchfield delivery was prompt and the initial setup was easy using the microphone that can with it. Crutchfield included sheets of labels which were a great addition. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that there was no paper manual to refer to, All the documentation is on a DVD (I'm old) so that takes a little getting used to. I'm still reading it and finding where various technical detail are discussed. The performance is outstanding for my equipment (Flat screen, Blu-ray player, cable w/ wifi and room size 15' x 12'. I would definitely recommend this unit but it is now discontinued (hence, the discounted price. I will definitely use Crutchfield again. Their website has some very informative and useful information.

Pros: Great sound, Easy set up.

Cons: Manual comes as a DVD rather than an instruction booklet.

The sound options are well-suited to the audio being played whether it's radio, music or movies. These are paired with two pairs of Klipsch AW-500s. I especially like the ability to switch to different HDMI inputs with the click of a button and then to match the sound with another click

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The AVR 1613 is a basic network receiver. If you need good sound quality and a decent set of features and not too many inputs, this should be on your list of products to consider. The set up is simple, the audio quality is impeccable. I have a PS3 which takes care of my video and audio needs. The networking features are a awesome. Love the vTuner radio and lot of international channels. Havent tried to make the airplay work yet. My only gripe was that the remote control is not multi branded. There are settings that a pro would like to get their hands on and their are simple settings for lazy bums like me.

Pros: Simple interface Sound and sound effects Internet radio and flickr compatible (wife loves this) Controls for individual speakers.

Cons: Remote is not multi brand. So you need to get another one to control everything. Like somebody else stated, it does not do the dishes.

I had to call tech support only once to help me set up the subwoofer, friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. (note: call to support would have been unnecessary had I followed the instructions first.

Pros: I am not technical enough to rate the pros or cons, but I sounds really goods.

This is a great a/v receiver. Very easy to attach your equipment, well labeled on the back of the unit. The menu walks you through the wiring as well. I found the menu very simple and easy to understand. I love the auto speaker calibration. This unit measures 6 positions and for me worked spot on. I used 2 hdmi connections, 1 for Fios tv box and the other for a blue ray player. Everything works great. I have not used airplay yet. Thank you Crutchfield for all your help, you guys are great. At this price point and if it has all the correct connects for your equipment the 1613 will surprise you. It surprised me.

Pros: Easy to install and use

Fabulous sound and so many features. Once I connected this A/V to the internet I was in a whole new world! So much music to choose from and such great sound.

Pros: Simplicity, especially when compared to my old Yamaha. It is easy to set up and easy to use.

Cons: It would be nice to have a couple of inputs other than HDMI such as component video (as yet everyone's equipment is not totally out of the dark ages)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You could not buy technology this good twenty years ago at any price. Very affordable home theater option. I upgraded my 5.1 primarily because it had no HDMI ports. I was surprised what a difference this Denon made with the same speakers. I used the Audyssey setup microphone and it told me two of the ceiling speakers where out of phase at the ceiling end of the wire, amazing. After I corrected that it ran the room tests and adjusted the system output. What a difference! I think in my case primarily because my center speaker is relatively large it had been underpowered before. Voices are clear and crisp and at just the right level, imaging is very good from several locations, not nearly as localized as before. I would buy it again today, it's a bargain.

Pros: Audyssey system, clean power, multiple HDMI ports, USB, streaming etc, A lot of features for the money.

Cons: It doesn't wash my dishes.

For my needs this provided excellent features and was priced very affordable. A very good choice.

Pros: The 'Odyssey' ( to balance sound from different listening areas of the room) was easy to set up and makes a big difference when watching movies or listening to music. No more trying to adjust so that everyone sitting close to speakers are as comfortable with the sound as others that aren't. It is balanced perfectly.

    Cons: Haven't found any.

I'd start off by saying that any modern receiver is a somewhat complicated device, and set-up requires a certain level of know-how. I have a couple of minor issues with this receiver, but nothing but accolades for Cruthfield. Do NOT try to save a couple of bucks and buy this elsewhere. I've utilized customer support several times, and they respond quickly and are extremely knowledgeable. You would be a fool to try to think you would get similar support from anybody else. I'm a loyal Crutchfield customer from here on out.

Pros: Looks good, sounds great. Plenty of power. The minimalist back panel has all the inputs your should ever need.

Cons: HDMI pass through is glitchy if the reciever power is not on. I wanted the option of not running the Tivo through the receiver audio sometimes for simple TV viewing, but the passthrough would occaisionally pixelate during pass-through. When the receiver was powered on, this was not an issue. I resolved this by running HDMI directly from the TIVO to the TV with an optical audio out to the receiver. Sometimes the receiver forgets my manual speaker settings.

    Very Satisfied!

I was looking for a Receiver with good stereo and surround specs and this baby does not disappoint. The installation was very easy. The interface looks bare but this is not important since the sound and features is what really matters. Wow, and that stereo sound, it is just fantastic! I have a pair of vintage Technics bookshelf speakers (yes Technics) and they just sing to my ears, specially the highs and mids are truly amazing. Don't bother looking other alternatives. At this price point, it is the best.

Pros: Great Stereo and surround sound. Affordable price. Enough connections for your gear. Very easy to install and setup

    Cons: None so far

I was looking at the model 1513 and then found this one. This could not be easier to set up and program. We have it hooked up to an apple TV and run a Samsung blu-ray through it. It is delightful with the Infinity 250 something center speaker and Klipsch speakers. A real winner. Absolutely can not beat the customer service. Products were shipped as if they were fine crystal and as such had no shipping damage. Will buy again from Crutchfield a good American company with great products.

Awesome receiver at this price level, you won't find one better.

Pros: It doesn't get any easier to set up. It will even tell you if you mess up connecting the speaker wires. Apple Air Play is awesome and the iPhone app is a great addition. It even has great sound. This receiver will blow your mind on sound quality for a unit at this price point. As usual Crutchfield service and support are top notch. Don't bother to look anywhere else.

Cons: For my taste, it could use just a touch more power, but it definitely gets the job done well for not spending $600+

Step up from the Sony surround system I owned for about 7 years. Clean sound paired with a polk audio sub and energy surround speakers. Like the ability to stream windows media from my home pc. Easy setup with Audessy.

Pros: Good sound, price, nice features.

Cons: Even though the Audessy setup was easy, I did run into some issues where it told me some speakers were out of phase. Each time I ran it it would give me a different speaker as an issue. After double checking wires everything was in order and I just ignored the warning and continued the setup. It completed and everything seems to be fine.

Nice receiver, but has one big problem- AirPlay

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really love the sound of the Denon AVR-1613, but Airplay only worked for about three days and then suddenly the airplay icon disappeared from all of my OS products (two iPhones and an iPad. I've reset the receiver but still no Airplay. I can still Airplay to the Denon thru my Apple TV, but when the Airplay on the Denon was working properly, I could call up a song on my iPhone and the Denon would automatically turn on and start playing my selection. This feature is the primary reason I purchased the Denon AVR-1613, but it appears dead now. I may return the Denon to Crutchfield to exchange for a product that hasn't experienced this problem with Airplay. The folks at Crutchfield have been awesome, as always!!

Pros: Great sound, easy set-up and everything works as advertised with the exception of Airplay. Good, clean look to the Denon AVR-1613. Initially, Pandora wouldn't work thru the Denon AVR-1613, but Denon sent out an update to fix this. Once downloaded, Pandora worked perfectly, but still no AirPlay.

Cons: AirPlay stopped working after just a few days.

After playing with a few other home theater products such as the Bose Solo, and the Sony package system I fiunally decided to go back to the basics since I was not happy with either of those systems. The Bose flat did not sound good for the price and the Sony Blue Ray portion quit working and the sound was scratchy. This Denon reciever is nice, has plenty of power and pushed the Polk Audio Blackstone speakers well. It does not have a lot of funtions but it doesn't appear to need them. Set up was easy.

    Pros: Priced well. Good performance.

Cons: Not a lot of on command sound features.

I'm certainly happy with this buy! It is sleek and simple with hdmi only as inputs. AirPlay has been a lifesaver and denon remote app is neat feature to have.

Pros: AirPlay, remote app for iPhone, mic setup very convenient.

Cons: Expected airplay video rather than just audio, kept receiving phase error in mic set up, wish there was a warning on computer hdmi out...a lot of computers aren't made to have the signal passed through the receiver so have to default back to component cable until I update my video card. This information isn't readily available for most video cards, I was only able to figure this out combing through several audio blogs and forums. Still happy with the performance though!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to setup, sounds great! The only issue I've had is that occasionally while using Airplay, it begins to skip every couple seconds. This IS addressed in the manual and the solution it cites is to quit the app on your iDevice and reopen it. That did NOT work for me. Additionally, it also happened when using Airplay from my computer, so it didn't seem to be related to the "sending" was an issue with the receiver itself. What DID work was unplugging the receiver for a minute and plugging it back in. Since power-cycling it, it hasn't acted up again (knock on wood).

Pros: Easy to setup, sounds good, Airplay when it behaves

    Cons: Airplay can be picky.

Simple clean and easy to setup.

Really like this receiver. Its simple and clean and easy to setup. Works great as a surround sound receiver for the living room. Sounds great with my in wall speakers. Network streaming and air play worked great. I did have a bit of an issue getting airplay to work but it suddenly showed up on my iOS devices and has worked ever since.

Pros: Simple and clean. Streaming and airplay are really nice features.

Cons: Wish it had at least one set of RCA audio outputs.

I was very pleased with this receiver. I was replacing an Onkyo SR-706 that had an HDMI switching problem. The sound of the Denon was superior to the Onkyo to my ear. The set up was also easier. The only thing that I missed was having additional connectors on the back, other then the HDMI inputs. I have no regrets about buying this unit.

Pros: Easy set up. Good sound. Fast responce to remote control.

Cons: More inputs would have been nice.

This is my first home theater purchase ever. The AVR1316 has way more features than I need but I have really enjoyed learning how to use it. Switching between sources is simple and set up is quite easy as well. The Audessey set up with microphone is ridiculously simple. With some tweaking, I have my 5.1 system pretty fine tuned to my liking. I really like the Sirius and Internet radio options. Watching movies is amazing! Can't seem to get AirPlay up and running but I'm sure i'll figure it out. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase.

Pros: Tons of cool features for the price. Fairly easy to customize your settings. Sirius and internet radio are great! Fairly easy to set up and use.

Cons: Some features can be a bit technical for a novice.

I like it so far. The front panel looks a lot cleaner/simpler than what you typically see on other receivers. Overall - Good price, solid buy from a solid brand.

Pros: +Calibration microphone makes for easy setup +Six HDMI, plus one on the front +Tons of selections with the built-in Internet radio +Remote is relatively easy to understand, compared to other receivers (aka Onkyo). +Denon iPhone app is nice

Cons: -When playing video games, the TV screen can just black out for a few seconds which is very annoying. I've connected directly to the TV before and not had this issue, so I'm assuming it's coming from the receiver. This only seems to happen one time when you start a game, and not again after playing for a while. -Pandora is down, but according to the Denon website looks like there will be a patch for this on 12/17 -No built-in Wifi. A Powerline adapter seems to be a solid workaround.

I was not concerned with playing music through USB or Airplay but I am amazed how well it plays music. Also, the setup mic takes the guess work (for me anyway) out of tuning the speakers. Absolutely asotounding unit. My first Denon. I have a Nakamichi and a high-end Onkyo recievers on other TV's and bought this bargain Denon for a new Plasma tv. I can say that everything from the price to the shipping and packaging to the automated setup to the speaker calibration and sound quality is first rate and in a word - perfect. I am extremely pleased with this Denon unit and the impeccable service from Crutchfield - a superb combination. There are not a lot of bells and whistles and endless options and menus on this 1613, but that is what makes it so perfect. It is simply elegant in its design, setup and performance and for those with a 5.1 setup, it is a great choice. I had concerns with a large subwoofer and front tower speakers, but it drives them effortlessly and the with clear sound separation and even detected through the speaker calibration that I had the wiring reversed phase on one of my speakers - I am very impressed.

Pros: Price, setup ease, performance and simplicity

    Cons: none at all

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall a nice receiver. Denon does a good job of eliminating the stuff that out of date like Component Inputs; RCA inputs etc and only focusing on relevant features like HDMI. The setup assistance is pretty nice but when you want to change things it isn't that super intuitive but once you get it setup and tweaked its very nice. Changing the Music mode is difficult at least with mine anyway. Hard to explain but when I called Crutchfield it didn't work exactly as it is supposed by by cycling through the choices ie DTS; Stereo; PII etc.. but there is a way around it and you can change the modes after you play with it for a while.

Pros: Nice sound and works as designed

Cons: Setup is somewhat clunky but a minor issue in my opinion

    High Quality AVReceiver

Craig from Chapel Hill, NC on 9/3/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently replaced a failed Sony receiver with this Denon AVR 1613. The look of the unit is very slick and simple. Hooking up the unit to my simple set up (HDTV, DVD player, Roku) was pretty straightforward: the Setup procedure the unit runs you through is quite clear. I am still figuring out how various settings work and will soon be hooking up a Logitech Harmony 650 remote as well, so I am not yet at the point where it all ":just works." I wish the setup screen could be displayed at any time, but it only works with an HDMI connection so I have to change input to get a clear read out on the tv screen. A readout is available on the Denon unit, but only a short few words at a time; not so easy to follow. I really appreciate the AirPlay function. I had to buy a wireless Netgear accessory since I am not close to a cable hookup, but all is working very well.

Pros: High quality. Can handle a variety of devices. Excellent sound quality.

Cons: Complexity of options and choices. If you are a beginner, stick with the basic setup and then change gradually as your needs change. Although a PDF with links can be quick to use, it also means you have to have your laptop handy to figure out variations and options as you set up. The manual is not easy reading, but I'm not sure how they would make it simpler when the device is meant to fit a lot of options and situations.

Equal Power Amp Design w Discrete Circuitry: The Denon AVR-1613 is equipped with a 5 channel power amplifier rated at 75-watts (into 8-ohms, at 20-20kHz, with 0.08% THD, driving 2 channels) that reproduces high-fidelity sound in surround mode with equal quality and power for all channels, true to the original sound. The power amplifier circuit adopts a discrete-circuit configuration that achieves high-quality surround sound reproduction. To faithfully reproduce the original surround sound, each of the Denon AVR-1613's five channels are equipped with its own high-current power amp of equal power. Since these power amps also use discrete circuits configured with parts strictly selected for their contribution to high sound quality, rather than with low-cost integrated circuits (ICs), the surround sound playback is of impeccably high quality.

High-Quality Construction: The Denon AVR-1613 offers a minimum signal path design and direct mechanical ground construction, with independent power supplies for high-quality, audiophile-type sound; all in a vibration resistant chassis.

    • Minimum Signal Path Design: The simple & straight design concept has been thoroughly implemented in the signal paths to contribute to clean audio and video playback. Signal paths are as short as possible to keep signal degradation in the audio and video circuitry to a minimum.
    • Direct Mechanical Ground Construction: Vibration-resistant construction has been used to suppress the adverse influences of vibration on sound quality. The power transformers, a source of vibration, have been securely mounted on the high rigid bottom chassis. Direct mounting of cast-iron feet to the radiator in near proximity to each other serves to suppress mutual vibration with the power transformers and other sources of vibration.
    • Independent Power Supplies: The Denon AVR-1613 employs independent stable power supplies for high-quality sound and picture playback.
    • Vibration Resistant Construction: Vibration-resistant construction suppresses the negative influence of vibration on sound quality. Power transformers are securely mounted on the receiver's solid bottom chassis to minimize vibration

24-bit/192-kHz DACs: This receiver is equipped with AKM Semiconductor 24-bit/192-kHz (AK4358VQ) DACs on all channels to decode and playback high-resolution recordings with less jitter and  clearer sound.

32-Bit Processing DSP: The Denon AVR1613 is equipped with a Floating Point 32-bit DSP (ADSP21487) for powerful and highly accurate surround sound reproduction.

Multi-Channel Decoding Formats: The Denon AVR-1613 AV receiver supports the following multi-channel (Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic) decoding formats.

Note:  Dolby Digital and DTS listening modes can only be selected if your audio source is connected to the AV receiver via a digital audio connection (HDMI, optical, or coaxial). Even though the AV receiver will decode 7.1channel surround sound (via HDMI), it will only output 5.1ch surround, because it lacks Surround Back channel speaker outputs.

Surround Parameters: You can adjust the following surround mode parameters:

    • Dolby Pro Logic II Music Settings: While listening in the Dolby Pro Logic II Music format, there are three further enhancements you can adjust:
      • Panorama: Broadens the front stereo image to the surround speakers to provide a wraparound effect, especially effective when there is limited output from the surround channels, panorama can be turned on/off in the menu.
      • Dimension: Allows you to move the sound field forward or backward.
      • Center Width: Allows you to adjust the width of the center channel.
    • Center Image: In the Neo:6 Music mode, the Center Image feature adjusts the output of the left and right channels relative to the center channel, allowing you to make the center channel more or less dominant as needed. This improves the image of the center channel, especially when the listener is off-center. Adjustment varies from 5 (nothing subtracted from the L/R channels) to 0 (L/R channel output is cut in half).
    • Denon Original Surround Mode Settings: While listening in one of the Denon Original Surround Modes, there are three further enhancements you can adjust:
      • Room Size: This feature allows you to set the size of your desired acoustic environment when using specific Denon Original Surround Modes; select Small, Medium small, Medium, Medium large, or Large.
      • Effect Level: This function adjusts the effect signal level from 1 to 15 when using specific Denon Original Surround Modes.
      • Delay Time: This feature adjusts the delay time (0-300ms) to control the sound stage size.

Denon Original Listening Modes: Denon's Original Listening Modes, combined with Dolby Digital/DTS/Dolby Pro Logic processing, produce more realistic, powerful sound effects for your movie and music sound tracks based on the type of content and your home theater setup. You can choose from the following:

    • Rock Arena: For rock and popular music sources, this mode surrounds you with reflected sound of the kind you would hear at a live concert.
    • Jazz Club: This mode recreates the atmosphere of a live house where the ceiling is low and you are enveloped with rich doses of reflected sound.
    • Matrix: With this mode, you can add rich reflected sound to 2-channel stereo music sources where reflected sound is normally not audible.
    • Video Game: This mode is suited for achieving surround sound with video games..
    • Mono Movie: This mode is used when you listen to recorded monaural sound sources such as AM radio broadcasts or news programs from the center speaker.
    • Virtual: Enjoy surround effects using only the front speakers or set of headphones.
    • Multichannel Stereo: Left and right stereo channels are distributed to all the speakers so that stereo sound can be heard from all directions at any listening position.

Direct Listening Modes: The Denon AVR-3313CI offers two Direct Listening Modes which bypass the receiver's tone & DSP processing for higher sound quality performance. Direct Mode provides playback of 2ch or Multichannel audio in its original form, without any surround or tone processing. Pure Direct Mode goes a step further by turning off the receiver's display and analog video circuitry to minimize the possibility of any noised being added to the audio signal.

Audyssey Technology: The AVR-1613 features a full package of Audyssey audio technologies for optimal sound quality. Audyssey Dynamic Volume offers real-time volume adjustment, while Audyssey DynamicEQ improves your system's surround effects during low volume levels. Audyssey MultEQ automatically sets speakers to suit your room's listening environment and the speakers' characteristics.

    • Audyssey MultEQ: Audyssey MultEQ technology helps create an optimal acoustic profile for your home theater. Using the included setup microphone, Audyssey MultEQ measures sound levels and adjusts speaker configuration accordingly, making setup fast and easy. This room acoustic measuring and correction system analyzes (via the included microphone) the audio characteristics of your speaker system and your listening environment at up to 6 measurement points and automatically tailors the sound for top audio fidelity. You can set the Audyssey MultEQ to one of the following modes.
      • Audyssey: Optimizes the crossover point, output level, delay time, and equalization of all speakers based on speaker frequency response, speaker location, and room acoustics.
      • Audyssey Bypass L/R: Optimizes all speakers except front left and right.
      • Audyssey Flat: Optimizes frequency response of all speakers to flat.
      • Manual: Adjusts the tonal quality for each speaker individually using the manual equalizer settings; 63 Hz, 125 Hz, 250 Hz, 500 Hz, 1 kHz, 2 kHz, 4 kHz, 8 kHz, and 16 kHz (-20dB to +6dB).
      • Off: Turns equalizer off.
    • Dynamic EQ: Audio engineers mix music and movie soundtracks at reference levels much louder than typical home listening levels. At lower volumes the human ear perceives sound differently; voices change, bass dissipates, and the surround effect becomes less enveloping. Dynamic EQ adjusts the frequency response curve based on volume to maintain consistent bass output, octave-to-octave balance, and surround impact, resulting in rich sound at any volume. You can set the Dynamic EQ to 0, 5, 10, or 15 dB.
    • Audyssey Dynamic Volume: Audyssey Dynamic Volume solves the problem of large variations in volume level between television programs, commercials, and between the soft and loud passages of movies. Dynamic Volume addresses the issue of commercials that are too loud and movie soundtracks with vast differences between soft and loud passages; the results are more intelligible dialogue, loud passages maintain impact, and soft whispers are heard clearly. When the volume level changes, Dynamic EQ also adjusts the frequency response to maintain sound quality. You can set the Dynamic Volume to Day (low), Evening (middle), Midnight (high), or off.

CINEMA EQ (Cinema Equalizer): The Cinema EQ function gently decreases the level of the extreme high frequencies, compensating for overly-bright sounding motion picture soundtracks. Select this function if the sound from the front speakers is too bright. This function only works in the Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic (including PL II, PL IIx, PL IIz), and DTS Neo:6 modes.

Restorer: Compressed audio formats such as MP3, WMA (Windows Media Audio), and MPEG-4 AAC reduce the amount of data by eliminating signal components that are hard for the human ear to hear. The Restorer function generates the signals eliminated upon compression, restoring the sound to conditions near those of the original sound before compression. It also corrects the sense of volume of the bass to obtain richer sound with compressed audio signals. You can choose from 4 settings:

    • Mode 1 (Restorer 64): Optimized mode for compressed sources with very weak highs.
    • Mode 2 (Restorer 96): Apply suitable bass & treble boost for all compressed sources.
    • Mode 3 (Restored HQ): Optimized mode for compressed sources with normal highs.
    • Off: Does not use Restored function.

Dynamic Range Compression (DRC): Motion picture soundtracks have tremendous dynamic range (the contrast between very soft and very loud sounds). For listening late at night, or whenever the maximum sound level is lower than usual, Compressing the dynamic range allows you to hear all of the sounds in the soundtrack with reduced dynamic range. DRC works when playing program sources recorded in Dolby Digital or DTS.

Night Mode: The Night Mode optimizes sound for late night listening. This function can be set to Low, Mid, High, or Off.

Tone Settings: You can independently adjust the system's overall Bass and Treble settings from -6 to +6 dB. You can also fade the sound from front to rear, or vice-versa.

Volume Settings: The AVR-1613 offers the following volume settings.

    • Volume Scale: You can choose to display an Absolute volume scale (0-98) or Relative volume scale (-79.5 to 18dB).
    • Volume Limit: You can set a maximum volume level of 0, -10, or -20 dB to limit the receiver's total volume output.
    • Turn-On Volume: You can define the volume setting that is active when the power is turned on (0, 1-98, -79 to +18dB, or Last)
    • Mute Level: You can set the amount of attenuation for the audio muting circuit; -40dB or -20dB below current volume, or full mute (sound turned off entirely).

Level Adjustments:  The AVR-1613 provides the following level adjustments.

    • Source Level: This function adjusts the playback level of the currently selected input source's audio input. Use this feature if there are differences in the input volume levels between different sources. You can correct the playback level of the audio input from -12 to +12dB.
    • Dialogue Level: You can adjust the output level (+/-12dB) to clarify the dialogue output from the center channel.
    • Subwoofer Level: You can set the receiver's subwoofer output level (+/-12dB) independent from the other speaker levels and system's main volume.

Audio Inputs/Outputs: The Denon AV receiver offers a variety of analog and digital audio inputs/outputs.

    • Assignable Digital Inputs: The AVR-1613 features an optical digital (Toslink) input and a coaxial digital input. Each input can be assigned to any of the different input sources except Tuner.
    • Speaker Terminals: The receiver has binding-post terminals for all speaker connections. The binding-post terminals can accept bare wire, pin connectors, and banana plugs. The receiver will accept speaker impedances of 6 to 16-ohm.
    • Headphones: When headphones are plugged into the full-size 1/4" jack on the front panel, all the speakers are automatically muted.

    Video Features

HDMI (v1.4): With five HDMI v1.4 inputs (4 rear/1 front), the AVR-1613 allows you to route multiple high-definition devices, like game consoles and Blu-ray players, to your TV. It also allows you to connect all of your devices to your TV with a single HDMI cable (via its HDMI monitor output), reducing cable clutter. The HDMI inputs are assignable to different input sources. They support HDCP copyright protection and are compatible with 3D signals, Deep Color, xvYCC technology, LipSync, ARC, and HDMI control.

3D Pass-Through: With the advent of 3D media, it is important to own a receiver that recognizes 3D video signals. The AVR-1613 is able to pass through 3D signals from your Blu-ray player, ensuring that the 3D effect doesn't get lost in translation. It also recognizes signals from 3D television broadcasts. By connecting a 3D-compliant Blu-ray disc player and 3D-compliant TV to the AVR-1613, you will have a 3D home theater where you can enjoy high-definition sound and video on a level you've never experienced before.

HDMI Standby Pass-Through: When enabling the HDMI Standby Pass-Through function, regardless of whether the AV receiver is "On" or in "Standby" both audio/video streams from an HDMI input will be output to your television, via the receiver's HDMI monitor output. You can select between three HDMI through function modes.

    • HDMI Input: Selects the HDMI Input (1-4) for which the HDMI Standby Pass-Through function is enabled.
    • Last: The HDMI Standby-Through function is activated on the input source selected at the time of setting the AV receiver to the "Standby" mode.
    • Off: The HDMI Standby Pass-Through function is disabled.

ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature allows audio to be sent from your compatible HDTV to your receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your HDTV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television.

Deep Color & x.v.Color Support: The AVR-1613 also supports Deep Color and x.v.Color content, which can display a larger color range than standard-definition schemes. The result is a more lifelike, vibrant picture

Lipsync: If needed, the audio signal can be manually delayed to match the video signal; adjust from 0-200ms.

Analog Video Inputs: The receiver features two composite video inputs and one composite video monitor output. You must connect the receiver to your TV via composite video to view incoming video from the receiver's composite inputs. There are no component video inputs/outputs.

Video Select Function: You can switch the video input source on the receiver while listening to a different audio signal.
