Best receiver I brought
Pros: Works as advertised Easy setup
I'm used before Onkyo receiver, but The experience with my new Denon receiver is better by far! Recommend 100%
First time Denon Owner. Nice features for 5.2 AV set up. Easy to follow on-screen instructions. Bluetooth works well, first time, every time. Paired with a set of 4 Polk Audio speakers, fine sound.
Pros: Easy to follow set up. but complete manual is online. Huge connectivity.
Cons: None yet
Bought this unit to replace a 10 yo Denon receiver. With this unit I can control the inputs to the tv cable/internet/blu ray which makes switching between them very easy! Set up was easy as well. Great AV unit!
Replaced a Sherwood was easy to set up and adjust. Like a lot.
Pros: Sound and bass with speakers I had are great phone app and bluetooth work fine.
Cons: Can't think of any
The Denon AVR-S530BT is an excellent unit for the money. It was very easy to set up and sounds great.
A great no-frills receiver. Exactly as advertised. Powerful and simple. Great product. Easy set up.
worst piece of junk. mine been sent off two times to Denon for picture going out. had sound its broke now the same thing
Cons: keeps breaking allways hdmi1 going out 3 times now
Works as advertised, easy to install, setup well designed.
Decent receiver for the price. Could use more power....maybe mine are not efficient enough. Has Bluetooth but no WiFi. Easy to set up. Just plug n play.
Pros: Easy to set up
Cons: Would use more power and WiFi
I love this product it does a great job!!! Thanks Crutchfield!!!
I love this product I usually get Yamaha receivers but this one does a job. I I'm so glad I switched to this brand thanks Crutchfield for the great advice
Needed a replacement for my decade old home theatre receiver. Especially wanted Bluetooth and HDMI switching. This unit has both at a very reasonable price. Got it the next day.
Cons: Only one set of speaker outputs
Very nice feature rich basic reciever. Perfect for my bedroom home theater. Seemlesly conected all my hdmi components to my ultra 4k gear. Works and sounds great.
Do not overlook this system! Affordable but not basic and stripped down.
Pros: Provides everything a basic and intermediate audio/video connoisseur needs. Can handle a majority of components needed for an amazing home theater experience! This is my second Denton receiver. My first lasted nearly 20 years.
Extremely swift shipping. The firth receiver I have purchased in a long time. Extremely easy to set up.
Awesome techs, great product at an unbelievable price! What more can you ask for! Crutchfield Rocks!!
Great value, this receiver has features that you don't expect at this price point. A great receiver on a budget.
Pros: Ease of use, great value, really good sound.
Cons: None so far.
Bought this to go with Klipsch Reference R-15M speakers for a home theater. The setup was pretty easy, even the microphone calibration was easy. I downloaded the android control app. It worked really well and I was able to scream music from my phone pretty easily. I also really liked the fact that the HDMI output from my computer or video player goes into the AVR and then is output from the AVR to the TV or projector. This means, for my computer, the screen size is not constantly changing when I add the projector or not. And there are fewer cables to deal with since I don't have to have a difference type of cable to go from my computer to the projector and then computer to speakers. Very nice.
Good quality and lots of possibilities. It's a step above the out of the box systems. Crutchfield's online support and advice are well worth it.
If you have a 5.1 system, this is all you need. With ARC (and an ARC compliant TV) you can send the audio back from your smart TV to the receiver so you can watch TV and apps on TV (Netflix, etc) with audio through the receiver. Happy that my smart Samsung TV remote just worked with the receiver to control power and volume with no programming. Automated speaker setup works great.
I love the receiver and it fulfilled what I was trying to accomplish. The best part of this purchase was Customer Service Rep Sonny who went above and beyond to walk me through setting up this receiver but also another I already had at the house in a different entertainment area.
Pros: Great sound for the price
Plenty of power and great sound. Easy to set up. Lots of features.
great value for the pricing
Pros: everything else is great
Cons: slow start up with direct tv
Great product with a great price. A nice entry level unit which would fit most user needs. Fits my need. Easy set up and easy to use. I especially like the Bluetooth capability. FM tuning could be a little easier.
Pros: All I need without a lot I don't need
Cons: FM tuning could be a little easier.
Hurray!! Great Sound, through all speakers and at 1/2 the price! I bought a different brand about 10 years ago for more than twice what this gem cost that never sounded half as good. The sound is clear, with brilliant treble, rich midrange- vocals, and great bass.
Pros: It's the sound quality that I'm ecstatic over. It has a remote that is simple to use and set up.
Cons: none- well, if I had a phonograph, maybe I would like an input that didn't need a preamp- but I don't have a phonograph, so... I'm just stoked. Thank you, Mahalo, Crutchfield.
Good box but NO MANUAL IN THE BOX! Ridiculous in the 21st century? Why should the user be required to print out a manual?
Pros: Good sound
Cons: No manual in the box. How cheap can you get???
Very pleased. Great price, quality and blue tooth.
Pros: Can control volume with smart phone
Just a great unit overall. Sounds great. Pass through on stand by was an important feature I wanted on a receiver and the Bluetooth feature made it much better than what I was originally looking for. Very well priced as well. Would definitely recommend this to anyone
Pros: Pass through inputs, Bluetooth, easy on screen (tv) setup, affordable
What an awesome find...this Denon AVR frigg'n rocks! The sound clarity it produces is incredible, which makes my surround sound extraordinary. The size and price is right! The shipping was FREE and PROMPTLY Perfect!! Don't wait for the price to increase, pounce on this superior unit while you can - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! TEN STARS
Pros: Price, Size, Sound, Shipping, Makes Me Happy
Well worth the price, this is a perfect choose your home theater without spending tons of money.
The Denon meets all of my needs. The 4K inputs/output drove my decision making and the receiver has adequate power. The HDMI standby pass through was an important feature and the Bluetooth compatability works well.
This inexpensive Denon fits the bill perfect. I only use 2.1 sound as my living room is very small, that being said, I didn't use the setup microphone, and chose to adjust the sound manually. It took me about an hour to get it the way I like it but.... well worth it. The sound is incredible on my 2.1, I'm sure 5.1 is the same. Easy to install and hook up, Bluetooth works very well and is a nice addition as I'm super old school and is my first Bluetooth product, ya I know. Very happy with this Denon
Pros: Inexpensive, awesome sound, easy to customize the sound you want
Cons: The Denon app is worthless, works like a remote that they GIVE you. When you close the app on your phone, it shuts the receiver off....dumb
Surround sound, easy to set up. Why pay more more than you have to.
Great receiver for the price. Denon makes a quality product, and this receiver is just what I needed for my 5.1 system.
Amazing receiver. I had a different brand and it never seemed to work quite right. This receiver has online setup for every component displayed on the TV to ensure everything gets hooked up correctly. Crutchfield also provided wire labels so everything could be identified after being unhooked from the old receiver. This was a nice surprise and free and further helped with the changeover. The receiver also came with an omni-directional microphone that balanced all of the channels perfectly. All of my speakers are Klipsch and Polk Audio and the receiver drives them as loud as you would ever want. All hooked up my 70" TV, everyone wants to come here for movie night. I couldn't be happier with my choice.
Pros: Just about everything.
Cons: I could not figure out how to just watch the TV without the receiver providing the sound.
Our receiver failed unexpectedly and needed a replacement with a reasonable cost, some additional HDMI inputs, and a few newer features. This device fit the bill. Easy to install, fast and efficient shipping process from Crutchfield, and back to video games, movies, and now bluetooth music. Very happy with this and would recommend to others
Pros: HDMI inputs Bluetooth connection
We got a 4K TV (from Crutchfield) and our low-end Yamaha receiver didn't work with it. So we got this Denon on Crutchfield's recommendation. Because it is a 4K receiver, it works great with the 4K TV. I don't think the sound from our external speakers is any better than it was before (at least I can't tell), which is why I wanted to spend as little money as possible. The Denon filled the bill nicely, and it is more advanced and easier to operate than our 2-year-old Yamaha. If you really can't tell the sound difference from one receiver to another, why pay more?
Pros: Easy to operate and set up. Very nice sound. Handsome unit with a digital display that tell you what is going on
Cons: Remote has as many buttons as the cockpit of a 747.. Remote buttons are not illuminated (but , bafflingly, most aren't).
Easy to hook up components
Pros: Easy to hook up components and it looks good too. Makes an impression both with sound and vedeo.
This will be more of a review of Crutchfield's customer service than of the product itself. The receiver works fine, at least the second time around. The first Denon AVR-S530BT I received was defective; the subwoofer preamp out wasn't working. Plugged in the sub and all it did was buzz with a feedback-like hum. I called Crutchfield customer service and they shipped a new one immediately and emailed me a UPS return label. The replacement arrived 2 days later and after verifying it was working correctly I repacked the defective unit, slapped the label on it and dropped it off at the UPS Store. 5 stars for Crutchfield's customer service! As for the Denon AVR-S530BT itself, I haven't had it long enough to have learned every little nuance, but so far it works great and sounds better than the old Sony unit it replaced. Lots more features, too. The auto setup for speaker balance has done a fine job of integrating my 12" Pioneer floor standing speakers with the small center channel and surround speakers left over from my old Sony. The Sony subwoofer had to be replaced with a powered sub, which is an Acoustic Audio 6.5" unit that provides ample bass for both music and those big special effects scenes. I'm only giving it 4 stars out of 5 though because the functions of the various sound fields could be made clearer (if I understand it correctly, the DIRECT setting provides the correct sound field as dictated by the source: Dolby 5.1, DTS, stereo, mono, etc.) and the phone app s
Pros: Auto setup works great. Clean, powerful sound. Elegant styling.
Cons: DIRECT setting supposed to automatically give correct sound field to match source, but no indication that's happening. My old Sony displayed the source type; Dolby, DTS, etc. The phone app is pretty much worthless; doesn't really do anything more than the remote, yet not as quickly and easily. What's the point?
I am absolutely satisfied with this receiver. Although it is more budget-friendly and therefore relatively bare-bones feature-wise, this receiver is perfectly suited for my current 3.1 setup. Before purchasing this Denon, I had a 15 year old Kenwood receiver, connected to my 4K LG TV via the TV's optical output. This setup sounded great, but with the old age of the receiver came the inevitable failures: both the center channel output and the subwoofer pre-out died. I made do without HDMI inputs and outputs, bluetooth, or any of the similar modern basics, so for this Denon to have these was great at this price point. This Denon is perfect for my small setup. I live in an apartment, so loudness is not a priority of mine when it comes to my home theater setup. I have three cheap Polk bookshelf speakers, along with a cheap 50W RMS subwoofer. Regardless of the price point of these components, the sound coming from this setup is great for simple TV, Youtube, or Netflix watching. Although I tend not to crank the volume for normal watching, with the finale of Game of Thrones recently, I can say that at 70% volume, the setup gets plenty loud and sounds fantastic. So if you're looking to just get up and running with a simple setup, this Denon will set you on the right path.
Pros: - Inexpensive. Bought from Crutchfield as an Open Box for an even better deal. - Powers simple setups well. - Bluetooth sounds great and is super easy to connect
Cons: - Maybe not loud enough for some setups - Volume buttons on remote are a bit sluggish to respond
Only had a few weeks now but it's been getting constant use and I don't have any complaints. Movies, sports, Rap, Metal, it all sounds great coming from my Denon through my Klipsch. Excellent entry level receiver.
Pros: Low price, looks nice, works great, easy setup
Replaced my old Sony to allow better sound through my smart tv. Debated getting a sound bar but this was a better choice to utilize my bose speakers and provide better sound.
Pros: Ease of set up
Great product! Everything it was advertised to be!!
Pros: Great fit and power at a great price!
Pretty happy with this denon. I came from a older Sony that was a 2009 product so it wasn't 4K capable. This denon was almost night and day with the sound and what it did for me as opposed to the Sony. I can't compare this to any of the newer models since I've never had any but all in all for the price I'm very happy with this unit
Fast easy set up. Only problem is that the clips on receiver for speaker wires holds a thinner gauage wire then I had. Took a bit of work squeezing them in. If your buying equipment with clip connections , keep that in mind.
This is a great receiver but unfortunately, it did not fit in my needs after I had received it and hooked it up. I have returned it but not because of any problems or complaints about the unit. I can not say enough good things about the customer service. I have returned the unit but will keep an eye out for another unit in the future.
Does everything we'll but remote volume control is difficult to set to desired volume. Response is delayed and then volume increases rapidly before you can act.
At first, I made a mistake and ordered a different receiver from another store. It turned out that it would not work properly with my 4K system. Being uneducated, I returned it and reordered and of course the second one did not work. Then I came to Crutchfield and with an adviser's (Mick) help I ordered this Denon AVR-S530BT. Not only did it work perfectly with my 4K system but it is a very nice receiver for the money. I am super happy now. I have purchased many things from Crutchfield over the past 20 years and have always been happy. Why did I stray?
Pros: Looks and sounds great. Nice features for the money.
Cons: Small item but would like to be able to rename some of the displays.
Great unit for the money. Easy to setup. Like the bluetooth. Video output is great.
Very pleased! OK, I am not a critical audiophile but i am a musician that enjoys many forms of music. Until the last 20 years I could say I enjoy all music. Anyway, I got this to replace my 20+ yr. old Yamaha HTR 5460. I have a pair of Cerwin Vega floor speakers, and run my audio and video/DVD sound through them. I don't have a surround 5.2 or whatever setup though that may change sooner than later. I love FM radio and here we have both a classical and a jazz station that are non commercial (Portland, OR) and I leave it on one of these most of the time. I play my music CD's on my DVD player and input that and switch to DVD to listen, works fine. To show how backwards I am, this is the first amp where I ran the HDMI from my DVD player to the amp and then the 'out' to the TV using the amp HDMI common 'out'. Tuning, great reception and lock on Sound, very nice - I am very pleased here The modes seem to work, at least I hear a difference between them. So you can see I am a very basic user and can only report I am very satisfied with this unit for what I am using it for. Thank you folks for the great pre sale chat, that would have been with Athena. had to ask a friend who does things with a smartphone to do the Bluetooth bit - worked fine!, at least impressed me to see how easy... will help knowing this when having future party's.
Pros: inexpensive, easy to set up and use without reading instructions, nice sound
Cons: cant think of anything I don't like.
Very good performance thus far. Simple to unpack and set up. The shipped unit did not include a user manual, but I was able to access the manual online (instructions could have been clearer). Using the receiver for TV, radio, and bluetooth - the latter is a bonus that our previous receiver did not include. Low cost for the performance and the free shipping (3 day) were strong selling points.
Pros: Low cost for performance. Free shipping. Easy setup.
Cons: Lacks user manual (old school), but was available online.
Everything that you need for a home system and more. Considered spending more money and a higher end unit and I'm glad I didn't overlook this Denon. As alwasy Crutchfield had it to me fast as well.. Thank you!!
This is a great little unit. Purchased this to replace a 7.2 received when I upgraded to a 4K Samsung. Setup was very easy to follow, I used the HDMI connections for my 4K Samsung TV and Blu-ray DVD everything was seamless. Even linked with my phone. The automatic setup was a big plus setting up my speakers.
Pros: Great Value Easy set up
Great amp for small to medium setup. Love it. I'm having an occasional odd issue with my TWC/Spectrum DVR but very intermittent and there is a recovery process. Bit of a hassle every once in a while.
Pros: Great price for the system. Simple setup.

I was looking for a 2 channel receiver for my home office, I like the bass response, as well as both the digital coax, and HDMI inputs. The price was reasonable as well. While this is a 5.2 receiver, it'll work well for my two channel setup. I also like the Bluetooth, USB input, and the headphone jack. I'll connect my Chromecast Audio to the receiver so that I can stream to the receiver via Wi-Fi. [ Mark Apr 15, 2018 ]

Price point was just right, Denon gear is good stuff. [ brent Oct 12, 2017 ]
I chose the Denon receiver based on good reviews and on the desire to have something other than a Sony product. Don't get me wrong, Sony products are fine, but I wanted to experience a different option. I chose Crutchfield as my merchant because of its history of exemplary customer service. [ E Oct 07, 2017 ]
Best bang for the buck(s). [ Donald Oct 06, 2017 ]
Hopeful ease of operation and simplicity. [ DAVID Sep 25, 2017 ]
Prior tuner (Onkyo 626-from Crutchfield) stopped working - for the second time...rather than repair again, I repurchased...but will not buy Onkyo again. [ M Sep 13, 2017 ]
The reviews were very helpful and after comparing it to other models, it seemed like it might meet our needs. [ Dewayne Aug 31, 2017 ]
Highly reviewed on this and other sites. Priced right. [ David G. Aug 31, 2017 ]
Value and quality. Has features I want at an affordable price. [ Rodney Aug 16, 2017 ]
The depth of this receiver was on the low end of the scale, which was important for me. It's very difficult to find smaller receivers, and this was about the best I could do. The price was good, made better by a special offer. It has the connections I need (including a couple of ancient RCA connections). And it has a nice range of current features, including Bluetooth. I'm comfortable with Denon as a brand, and I'm hoping that their quality is what I expect it to be. [ Jay Aug 13, 2017 ]

Attractive price, 5 HDMI inputs, 2 year warranty [ Richard May 22, 2017 ]
Replacing my current Denon 5.1 receiver. Wanted to stay with 5.1 channels but also get HDMI switching in the receiver. Currently have been using a separate HDMI switch with mixed success. I am sold on Denon for quality/reliability and performance. [ John May 22, 2017 ]
Good morning, Yes, I believe they do and to my untrained ear it sounds like it. Rob [ Rob Jan 16, 2018 ]
Probably not. The auto setup determines the optimum crossover and outputs frequencies below that to the subwoofer. The manual states that the crossover (if available) on the physical subwoofer should be set as high as possible - this allows sufficient headroom for the auto setup to make its computations. The manual is available online and explains all of this very well. I like the amp! [ Terry Jan 15, 2018 ]
I don't know, I wanted just a stereo system for my home office. However I can tell you that I am not happy with this receiver, it feels like a cheap machine. I recommend spending a little more to get something usable. I also own a Pioneer receiver more or less equivalent to this Denon, a slightly more expensive Pioneer, and a Denon 4300 which is a much more expensive system, so I have some basis for the comparison. [ Richard Jan 15, 2018 ]
Yes [ kory Jan 15, 2018 ]
Surely you can. Optical inputs don't discriminate - the labels are just suggestions. I have found no way to edit the labels on the display though. [ Terry Jan 15, 2018 ]
Sorry, but I don't know. [ Daisy Jan 14, 2018 ]
Sorry, don't know answer to that question [ Steven Jan 14, 2018 ]
I have mine connected through the smart hub, working fine. You can control the volume of the receiver with the Samsung remote if you have everything configured properly. [ Terry Jan 15, 2018 ]
I was asked this question, unfortunately I cannot answer. I do not have Samsung Smart Hub. Mine is hooked up to a Vizeo TV. [ JASON A Jan 11, 2018 ]
No experience with Samsung Smart Hub. FWIW It works fine with my old Logitech Harmony One remote. [ William Jan 10, 2018 ]

Yes. The receiver supports resolutions up to 4k, and will work with SD or HDTv's. As long as your TV has the right ports (HDMI, Optical Out, or Component Out) it will work [ Charles Sep 07, 2017 ]

I only see connections for one set of speakers. [ Robert T. Aug 31, 2017 ]
Chuck, I have a fairly sophisticated a/v system that is the one I use for inside the house but I wanted a separate component to run three separate outdoor areas. I knew Denon is a quality product and I didn't need a receiver with tons of power or many fancy features so I bought this model. I solved the problem with a speaker switcher box I had from a previous system but you can buy one new with anywhere from two or three or even up to several speaker outputs. Simply run the speaker output from the Denon to the switcher and run as many sets of remote speakers as you want. I ran an output from my Oppo disc player to the Denon and it also has a great Bluetooth input so I can also play Pandora or any other source from my IPhone. Let me know if you need more Info and hopefully this helps. William V., St. Augustine FL. [ Beverly Aug 31, 2017 ]
No EQ, but it does have a crossover. [ Terry Jan 15, 2018 ]
No; but I use a separate EQ component [ Michael Aug 02, 2017 ]
I am not able to answer this since I had to send it back because it did not fit my needs. You might contact the technical support group. [ Kathy Aug 01, 2017 ]
There is a Subwoofer on/off control and a Tone adjustment control which has adjustment for Bass and Treble but there is no equalizer to do frequency adjustment. [ Tirumalaimuttu Jul 31, 2017 ]
