Our take on the Denon DVD-2500BTCI

Bring the theater experience home like never before

The DVD-2500BTCI delivers attention-grabbing picture and sound quality with high-definition Blu-ray Discs. This powerful player can output video at 1080p resolution and 24 frames per second for the best possible picture from today's most advanced TVs. It supports the latest Blu-ray format enhancements, which allow features such as picture-in-picture with some Blu-ray titles. And it's made by Denon — a company renowned for using top-notch construction and circuitry to guarantee superlative audio/video performance.

DVD2500 main

Rock-solid construction

Denon knows that any interference or resonance can hinder a player's performance, so they designed the '2500 to completely reject outside noise and vibration. It sports a highly rigid chassis with a double-layered top plate and triple-layered bottom plate, finished with a sturdy aluminum front panel. A newly designed transport mechanism, supported by a metal damper and tray guide, keeps the disc stable for error-free playback.

Blu-ray: a format designed for a better picture

High-capacity Blu-ray Discs can each hold up to five times as much information as a regular DVD. A Blu-ray player can send this digital information to your TV at a much faster rate than a DVD player. In fact, Blu-ray signals have up to twice the bandwidth of broadcast HD signals. The result is picture quality with flawless clarity and true-to-life texture and depth.

Better sound, too

Blu-ray Discs include cutting-edge audio as well as high-definition video, and the '2500 lets you enjoy these advanced new soundtracks in all their high-resolution glory. Just connect the player via HDMI to your receiver with Dolby® Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, or DTS-HD™ Master Audio decoding, and you'll enjoy audio with much greater detail than what you've heard with DVD. Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio even feature "lossless" compression for the most accurate reproduction of the movie theater soundtrack.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great Blu-ray player. Materials for this player seem to be top notch. It is larger than most players. Playback on this player is incredible. Blu-Ray playback is quick and beautiful. regular DVD playback is a bit grainy at times, but plays them without a hitch and they also look better than my standard DVD player. You also must have an upgraded receiver for this to play the Blu-rays. I highly recommend this product. As always Crutchfield leads you in the right direction.

Great Blu-Ray Player!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great Blu Ray player. It's built like a tank and works flawlessly with my Denon AVR3808CI receiver. The Picture is amazing, much better than my Panasonic BD60. This thing is very long though. Some people may have a hard time fitting it into their TV stands or entertainment centers. I had to cut out some wood in order for this beast to fit. All worth the while though. As always, dealing with Crutchfield was a breeze. My order shipped on 10/19 and was delivered on 10/20 and that was ground.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had the Denon player now for a week and have watched "Bolt" and the first"Pirates of the Caribbean" movie. As you have already read, this unit is large and very well constructed. The picture is great but so was the picture on my 2 Y.O. Sony Bluray. I currently have a 47" LCD TV which I suspect is hindering the Denon a tad.. I am currently waiting to buy one of the new breed of LED TV's. My bet is the Denon will really shine hooked up to a TV of similar stature.

Excellence & Value

Another quality Denon product that integrates effortlessly with my Denon AV receiver. And Crutchfield's pricing made the purchase and upgrade to BlueRay a "no brainer."

great sound and video from a tank

STAN from Easton, pa on 8/3/2009

At first lift (after removing a 3 yr old dvd player from my av rack) was - wow, this thing weighs a ton. What a well constructed player - lets hope it sounds and plays like it feels. And guess what it does!!! Easy to install, simple to use AND great sound and video - what more do you want... I'm thinking of getting a second one for the kids' room and one for my girlfriend.

If you can use a Blu-ray player with only one HDMI output this is one awsome unit. My last unit was a Pioneer Elite. This one hands down beats the Pioneer and when you add the current price that its being sold for. It's one of the best values out there period. Of course Crutchfield service is 2nd to none !!

Excellent Build and Reproduction

Ruben from Gurabo, PR on 3/28/2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I buy this unit on march 9, 2009 to match a Denon AVR-2808CI (also buy at Crutchfield). The first impression when I carry this unit is the excellent build construction, it will give years of useful life. The setup was very easy, I has a 780p LCD and when I connect this unit automatically it recognize the maximum definition to output to TV (1080i). In march 21, 2009 the TV go damage and the repair is so expensive that I decide to buy a new one in this case Full HD, then when I connect this TV to my system, the unit itself change the output setting to 1080p (amazing). I found that the load time is good, it's depend of the movie you are going to see. I download the latest firmware and the unit works very well. The video are extraordinary and the sound are very good (remember you have to connect it's only output the HDMI on center back and the receiver has have all new decoders in order to get the better sound). I highly recommend this unit for your home theater. I am a Crutchfield client since 1999 and are very grateful with the service it provide me for these years. Of course I will be a Crutchfield client forever and I recommend you to be part of the clients of this company.

Denon DVD-2500BTCI

Eric from Atlanta, GA on 11/1/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this player mainly to match my Denon AV receiver. It's a lot of money to pay for a Blu-ray player, but that doesn't translate to quality. Blu-ray titles take an incredibly long time to load on the Denon DVD-2500BTCI as compared to other players. One of my biggest complaints about this player is it doesn't handle disc irregularities very well. Discs that play on other Blu-ray players will often either skip or not load at all. As a Netflix subscriber, it's important to have a player that can reliably handle scratches since they are known problems due to the US mail system. The Sony PS3 handles them well, but the Denon will often not load Blu-ray discs with the slightest bit of a scratch. My advice: stay away from the Denon Blu-ray receiver until they improve the load times and play abilities.

Blu-ray Disc Compatible: Blu-ray Disc (BD) is a new high-definition disc format designed to take advantage of today's high quality HDTVs. The resolution is up to 1920 x 1080 (1080p) and the data transfer rate is up to 40 mbps. Blu-ray Discs and players offer several advantages over the standard DVD format:

  • Better picture quality: Blu-ray Disc is a true high-definition format offering video at 720p, 1080i, 1080p, or 1080/24p resolution. While standard DVDs look very good on an HDTV, they don't provide a high-definition signal (not even when you use an up-converting DVD player). Blu-ray Disc delivers an extraordinarily sharp, clean, detailed picture, with deeper, richer colors.
  • Better sound quality: In addition to the same multi-channel sound formats you're accustomed to with DVD (Dolby Digital and DTS), Blu-ray Disc offers Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, and uncompressed 5.1 channel PCM
  • Much greater storage capacity: What makes Blu-ray Disc's superior picture and sound possible is the much higher storage capacity of Blu-ray Disc discs. A single-layer Blu-ray Disc can hold 25 gigabytes of data, over five times the amount a standard DVD can hold. Dual-layer Blu-ray Discs hold 50 gigabytes, which equates to nine hours of High Definition or 23 hours of Standard Definition video, plus high-resolution multi-channel audio and the added features and material that require multiple discs with standard DVD.
  • Compatibility with your current disc collections: To ensure backward-compatibility with your existing library of discs, Blu-ray Disc players use a dual-laser mechanism: a blue laser for playing high-definition Blu-ray Discs, and a conventional red laser for playing DVDs and audio CDs.

Future Compatibility: As Blu-Ray technology continues to evolve, new disc types with enhanced functionality will become available. In order for you to enjoy this new functionality, you will likely be required to update the firmware in your player. These firmware updates will become available for downloading from the Internet.

HDMI Audio Formats: The Blu-ray player's HDMI output is capable of Multi-channel Surround playback, Multi-channel LPCM playback and Down-mixed 2-channel audio playback. The DVD-2500BTCI supports the following Audio Formats depending on the unit's HDMI setting, disc type used and audio recording format of disc.
