Our take on the Escort Passport 9500ix

The Escort Passport 9500ix radar detector adds security to your drive with GPS capability and a built-in database of speed traps and camera locations. You can program the detector to run at maximum sensitivity at highway speeds, then to move automatically to city mode when you slow down, eliminating false alarms caused by outside interference.

Database of camera locations
The Passport 9500ix comes with a preloaded database of safety, red-light, and radar camera locations across North America, allowing the detector to warn you as one approaches. You can download updates, back up your data, and maintain the database through Escort's website. You'll need a subscription and a Windows®-based computer to update the Passport 9500ix's database — a free 90-day trial subscription is included with your purchase.

Store critical locations
Just tap a button on the nickel-plated keyboard to store locations along the road where the speed limit drops quickly, or where you might encounter heavy enforcement. The Passport 9500ix will warn you when you approach them in the future. Or press the mute button at the location of a known false signal — the Passport 9500ix will remember the signal, muting the alert the next time you pass by. You'll hear an alert if another type of signal comes from the same location.

Outstanding radar and laser protection
The Passport 9500ix also offers Escort's trademark long-range protection against all-band radar and laser threats, plus invisibility to VG-2 detection. Its display offers a wealth of information, including your own speed. You'll hear the detector's alerts over road noise, thanks to automatic volume control. Escort includes a hardy travel case for portability and storage.

Traffic Signal Rejection
Escort's proprietary Traffic Signal Rejection software goes even further to reduce false alerts. It detects strong K-band signals emitted by common highway traffic flow sensors and weeds them out, eliminating meaningless alarms so you can stay focused on the real threats.

Add Escort Live!™ for extra protection
The Passport 9500ix is compatible with the Escort Live! service, which allows you to track real-time radar threats in your vicinity using your Bluetooth® enabled smartphone and the free Escort Live! app. Your phone's GPS information provides access to reported radar data from other Escort Live! users in your vicinity, and you can report radar hotspots so others driving in your wake will know about potential encounters. You'll need to purchase an Escort Live! cord for your iPhone® or Android™ phone, and a subscription fee is also required to use the Escort Live! service.

Now that I have it, I don't know how I managed without it!

Kevin H. from Auburn Hills, MI on 7/5/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit is the best! It gives you plenty of advanced warning and when it notices false alarms on routes you frequently travel, it uses the inbuilt GPS to store the false alarm and eliminate it moving forward. This really is an intelligent unit! I ended up getting the kit to hard wire it into my car; this thing is a keeper! Highly recommended.

Pros: GREAT Range, Clear Alerts, Automatically eliminates false alarms on frequently traveled routes.

Cons: None

Not sure if worth 100-200+ dollars more than the Cobras

gregg from Hillsboro, OR on 5/31/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had my cobra Radar detector for almost 2 years. It worked great, ands saved me a bunch of times. However, the false alarms from stores, trains and the cars with those lane detector things were driving me bonkers. So after some reviewing I bought the Escort, and I liked the service Crutchfield provides. First thing I did was try to hook up to my pc to get it updated through the website. Well that does not work at all, in fact you need extra stuff just to do that. The first few times the detector went off, the range was horrible, but seems to be improving as it is used more and more. The cops in this area tend to do the Ka bands the most, as it is simpler, and the 9500ix did detect the officer almost a mile ahead, and was still beeping at 1 bar at almost a mile past. this is on a flat surface mind, you but still impressive. There were a ton of false alarms at first, but after a week, most are gone on the routes I normally drive. One other gripe is the manual says I can use Bluetooth to hook to the detector, well guess what, you need another expensive part to do it. I do like this detector and it is growing on me, just not happy that I will have to spend more money soon for the extras that should just come with it, at the high prices it is at.

Pros: Great range on Ka band loud beeps The flashing light on adapter is nice at night as well, along with a mute feature. Long cord

Cons: expensive add-ons, in order to use extra features Bulky

You Are Going to Love the 9500ix

Mazz from Blue Grass, Iowa on 12/20/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was amazed at the advanced warning this detector provides. It is feature packed, but void of those fluffy features that really don't do much of anything. Really appreciate the camera warnings as well. The design is sleek. The audio alerts and messages ate clear and easy to understand. It is not an inexpensive detector. But then it does a great job for which it is designed - plenty of advanced warning, few if any false alarms, easy to use controls. The 9500ix is one fantastic radar detector.

Pros: Advanced warning. Great functionality.

Cons: A tad bit expensive, but now that I've had it a few weeks, that really is a non-issue.

As advertised

Passport is what good technology is about - excellence, adaptive and a fast learner. The GPS & Alerts makes this detector so quiet (on the false alerts) that you pay attention to it when it does makes noise. It takes three times for it to see the same false (big box store sliding doors, etc.) and then it says "stored" without you having to touch the thing. Next time you go through it will show a visual of the alert but no sound since fault. The speed awareness - more sensitive as you go faster - works beautifully. It even has started storing some of the long term interstate construction signs with words (didn't know they had K band emitters). Literally no issues - I did buy the superior suction cup thing from Passport as the little ones included wobbled etc. I also purchased a small 12" cable that allows me to tap into the power that goes to the mirror. Wished I had purchased the 15" cable as on this detector the power goes in on the left side - little more of a stretch than I like. Anyway, almost stealth right behind the lower edge of the blue tint stripe. With power to the mirror there is no cord going down and from outside you literally cannot see it. Anyway, super happy with it - so worth the money. So far driving it has caught local Police and Oklahoma Highway patrol Ka band and multiple times in Dallas it caught LASER although I never saw the LEO that was doing the laser. As a driver I tend to be about 5-10 over the limit - avoiding the $300 tickets.

Pros: Excellence in Design and Implementation Definitely had the driver in mind Strong engineering under the hood

Cons: Initial download of speed cameras and firmware update took about 2+ hours. More time than I expected but not really an issue as will probably only connect to internet 2-3 times a year at most.

Worth every penny...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have owned several detectors and finally decided to go with the one that was supposed to be the best. I can truly say that I have not been disappointed even once. It has performed so well, that I finally broke down and spent the money on a second one for my wife's vehicle. She has thanked me and told me many times how it has saved her. Even her guests riding with her are amazed.

Pros: Long range detection, excellent filtering, good options including "dark" mode if the radar is traveling behind you so it isn't seen through the windows.

Cons: Suction cup had to be replaced on mine after about 9 months but it was also being dried out in the summer heat. No complaints.

olelaker from Rockford, Il on 3/20/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Worth the high price. The 950ix has already alerted me to police I was not aware of. I agree the best way to avoid a ticket is to use your eyes, but even then there are instances where this approach doesn't work. the quality of the 9500 is top notch and the automatic ability to store false alerts is even better then I thought it would be. I choose this device over the Bell unit for this feature and it is worth the extra money. I plan on getting a second unit for my other car in the next month or two. I don't regret the purchase even thought it cost a lot, for me it will pay for itself shortly.

Pros: auto store false alerts, online database, easy of use

Cons: high cost - quality comes at a price

Good assistant.

Teddy from Housotn, Tx. on 11/19/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a very good driving assistant. Shipping was fast. Well packaged and brand new. Overall it is a very good detector. I think the suction cup mount (additional) was not necessary as the adjustability on it is poor. I hard wired mine in through the accessory fuse slot using an "add a circuit" from any autoparts store. everything works like a dream and the radar truely is "smart" with the auto-learn feature and adjustability options of the radar. Overall I love it & happy with it. Good purchase!

Pros: Sensitive radar! learning how to program it according to where you live and what you want out of it is a must. It's gps is a good addition to this model (i came from an 8500). not tacky looking and usability is amazing.

Cons: can be "overly" sensitive on x and k band (forced me to read instructions). stand-alone suction cup mount could use another joint. For $ spent, buyers should not have to pay for an optional "live" account that only is as good as the # of people in the area that use it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A month before I purchased anything from Crutchfield Corporation, I received a call early in the morning to verify if I had actually purchased a very expensive "electronic gadget" in the middle of the night. The end of the story is my AMEX card was compromised while I slept and thousands of dollars were charged to my credit card. The end of the story is my AMEX card was shut down and Crutchfield saved me from a major disaster. Now the day arrives when I want to purchase an Escort Passport 9500ix for my own personal car. What store should I buy the detector of my dreams? Answer: No one other than Crutchfield. The Escort Passport 9500ix is an absolute total dream. Drive by the false alerts from automatic doors a few times and the warning will be erased thanks to the GPS that is installed inside the 9500ix. This is the best "fish finder" or best "police radar trap" detector imaginable. The detector's alarm so far in advance of the trap . . . . you could let off the gas pedal and coast to a stop way before you get to the trap. The alarm is so loud with "status rating bars" on the screen that there is NO doubt there is a "Great White Shark" out there waiting to devour you and write a speeding ticket. Crutchfield and Escort Passport 9500ix are TOTALLY THE BEST EVER!! Period!

Pros: Red light Cameras, MAJOR ADVANCE WARNING, eliminates false warnings, GPS, Download updates from your computer, Blue light self adjusts to outside lighting (i.e., eliminates the inside the fish bowl syndrome at night)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This radar detector, without doubt, is the best I've ever owned. It does everything it's supposed to do and I have to give props to Crutchfield customer support also. I had to exchange one due to a usb malfunction and they shipped out a new one before I even returned my first defective detector. Updates are easy and work well with the Escort software which must be downloaded to your computer. The letters "USB" show in the detector display when the detector connects to your computer. If you do not see the "USB" letters in the display, just hit the power switch on the detector and the connection will be made. Once that happens and you run the update program, you can check for database as well as firmware updates. In operation, this detector does a great job blocking out false alarms on its own once you have gone through a location 3 times. The false alarm location will be automatically stored. You can also enter a blocked location yourself by hitting the "Mute" button 3 times and that location will be stored as a false alarm. I would suggest getting a good carrying case to transport the detector to and from your car. The case the 9500ix comes in is very slippery and may fall out of your hands accidentally. I got one that has a wrist strap so transporting is no problem for me. This is a great product which I highly recommend.

Pros: Great signal detection and false alarm detection system.

Cons: None, compared to other detectors. The price is well worth it.

Escort 9500ix is fantastic

KimW from Phoenix, Az on 8/19/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What a great detector. Plus the fact that I can plug in a mini USB and get updates over the internet of all the various attributes of the 9500ix. I have owned several detectors and I have not found one that has the versatility and functionality of this radar detector. My past detectors have been just great at detecting when I am about to get a speeding ticket. Everything pales in comparison to the Escort 9500ix. Fairly pricey, but already saved my butt more than once. Love it!! Buy it!! Cant go wrong!!! Mine has payed for itself already and I have only had it a month...... Read the owners manual- Super cup that is offered with it wont allow the detector to function properly. The detector must touch the windshield, super cup wont allow that to happen. Throw the Super cup in the trash and use the what comes with the detecor and you will be fine.

Pros: It works on everything out there and it remembers the nuisance alerts.... Fantastic unit..

Cons: Dont get to worked up over the "free" super cup. Your detector wont function correctly if it sits that far away from the windshield (read the owners manual)

PeterK from New York, NY on 8/19/2012

Waste of money. It's picking up automatic doors but is missing the radars. I got tickets coming back from south, one in VA the detector did not even went off. Deleware, by the time the detector went off I was painted by laser. Very dissapointed.

Cons: Picking up automatic doors. Missing radars in police cars, not enough warning time, when get hit by laser, you will get a ticket. Overpriced.

Works great. I upgraded this from my 10 year old Passport 8500 (non-x50). Works great the GPS aspect really is neat.

Pros: Great range, no real false alarms and if there are this locks it out quickly over time.

Cons: Price, but they are competitive here with it.

Good detector but needs a recall

Don from Staten Island, New York on 6/29/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As far a a radar detector goes this is one heck of a device. Amazing long range and unbelievable ability to automatically block out false alarms. Also, its integration with your smart phone with Escort Live is in it's beginning stages but has great potential for keeping you safe. Safe from even the oops it's too late Laser hits, because if anyone reported it before you got there Escort Live knows about it and your are safe and sound. So why you ask only 2 stars. I have just received my 3rd unit from Crutchfield and unfortunately once more the unit is defective in that the USB port does not work. There appears to be a design flaw with 9500ix's that begin with a serial number that starts with a '330'. Don't take just my word for it see for yourself at the Escort's own discussion forum's. Now will Escort take it back and repair it, yes , but buyer beware you are taking your chances and either I have the worst luck in the world because I got 3 bum units from the supposed 30+ in stock or there are a lot of defective Radar detectors out there. So in summary I paid full retail price for a R.D. that will be a repaired/refurbished unit and had to deal with the hassle all be it small because of Crutchfields wonderful return policy twice. And now have to deal with returning the R.D. to Escort. Why bother you ask... well it really is a cool device.

Pros: Range, Auto lockout, AI, Escort Live

Cons: Quality control

It's too late

Cam from Los Angeles, CA on 6/10/2012

Do not waste your money, most officers (at least here in LA) no longer use radar and only utilize Laser devices. Once your detector alerts you (assuming any portion of the laser beam actually hit the detector and caused it to activate...low possibility) you have been caught! Here's a novel idea, GO THE SPEED LIMIT!

Pros: None

Cons: Price

Unbelievable Detector!

Darren from Augusta,GA on 3/27/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very expensive detector, but worth it. Smart technology is actually smart. I am impressed by all the features that do what they are supposed to do, unlike other models you have to watch out for. I have been researching radar detectors for quite awhile now and have found the perfect one. This is it, look no further and don't sacrifice or risk tickets with cheaper wannabe models. Laser alert does work and will scare the heck out of you when that annoying cop aims at you.Unfortunately, it is probably too late at that point so additional laser deflectors will keep you safe and you will find those on other websites for your front and rear license plates. Radar detection is very good and marking known radar traps is a breeze for warning you later when you enter the area again not paying attention. Make sure you update online before you drive. Little USB cable NOT included, need one that fits in cameras to get updates and register online. You would think for $500 bucks they could have thrown that in!

Pros: Long range distance detection, Very smart detector

Cons: USB cable not included for online updates

I guess there's not a perfect detector , but this is as close as one can get. you have to drive by the same false elert a few times before it will know its not a real one, learned cops use ka band more, then k band , x band false alarm, learn this one should be ok. laser, learn cops have to be pointing laser at you before you can pick them up, is that a elert in ones favor??

Pros: works almost perfect

Cons: price, suction cups dont hold up on a cold surface.

More Than a Radar Detector

JIm in Houston from Houston, TX on 2/2/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this for my wife's Porsche Cayenne as an alternative to another Valentine, which I use in my Carrera. I am very pleased with the adjustment for sensitivity, brightness, and volume, and the ability to disregard X-band annoyances. The additional features that I like are the GPS function and the red light and speed camera databases, plus the spoken warnings that identify the type of radar and the visible warnings that show your current speed.

Pros: Very visible and audible alerts with automatically adjustable brightness and adjustable volume; database of speed and red light cameras; speed display with warnings.

Cons: Lacks directional arrows of the Valentine.

Believe it or not I am a police officer and my post was transferred 100 miles from home. I was being stopped too often and I was tired of inconveniencing the guys. I researched this product and purchased it. I am extremely happy with it and it has great range. You do have to beware of the "laser alert" got hit with a few of those by the Troopers, and there is nothing you can do about it. Make no mistake about it though, your 9500 ix will scare the sh out of you to let you know.

Some Facts

Mazz from Rindge, NH on 5/23/2011

I love all of the features on this detector and it seems to perform extremely well. I mainly wanted to comment on a few other reviews. To the person complaining about the laser detection ability...there is no good way to be warned about laser. Lasers are extremely concentrated, there is no scattering like there is with radar. If the detector is going off because of laser, they already have your speed. If they're aiming at someone else's car, you won't pick it up. To the person complaining about false alarms...there is no was to avoid this. A radar detector does just that, detects radar. If that radar is from a door opener, it's still radar. The beauty of this detector is that if you know that something is a false alarm, you can block it from alerting you in the future. That's all you can do.

Pro - Did extensive reseach; bought it and am very impressed with the performance; not disappointed, at all > good detection in city and highway; excellent in blocking GPS identified false signals; have had the unit for about a month and have gained good level of confidence in detection. Con - should include a straight-line cord, about 5 feet long, or so > the expansion cord is baciacally useless in trying to navigate dash-board controls / keeping cord out of the way. Would recommend to other buyers.

Poor laser performance

Dennis from Colorado on 2/21/2011

I recently purchased the escort 9500ix at Christmas time. The unit has performed poorly in detecting Highway Patrol Laser guns in Colorado. When I called customer support at Escort, I received the poor excuse of "oh, the police have gotten smarter and have started pointing their radar at the bumpers of the car" He continued on to say " If you have a windshield mounted detector, you need to purchase the accessory bumper mounted detector to be fully protected". He went on to tell me it would be $449.00 plus installation (professional installation required). Fool me once...... (you know the rest). To this day (2-15-2011) the website is promising protection against Lasers, but make no mention of this relevant fact. This is what angers me the most. Buyers beware.

Best on the Market

WillS from Philladelphia, PA on 10/26/2010

The Escort Passport 9500xi simply is the best detector that is available, for a rather affordable price. The only better system is Escort's more compact non-potable system that's approx. $700. I had many many many situations where this has come in handy and probably saved me from getting a ticket!! Although is not quite perfect and gets signals from banks and some bigger stores that have security systems, i would rather it go off more often than not. This detector is so good that i now look for the police car when it alerts me of its presence. I love this along with my garmin gps. Keep a look out for the new Escort detector that is a GPS and Radar detector in one! Very Cool!! Thank you!

2nd to NONE !!

Ticketless for 3 yrs now... Thanks Escort from Ohio on 9/20/2010

This radar detector is second to none. By far out performs any other radar detector on the market. I bought this when my license was got suspended for too many speeding tickets within a 12 month period. That was almost 3 years ago, I have not had a ticket since. Granted no radar detector is 100% full proof, This I feel is the closest thing. With the Lockout feature, This detector learns about the area you drive in and filters out the false alarms over time. Instead of a radar detector that trains you to ignore it from too many false alarms (All the while getting you tickets). With the 9500ix, You learn to react to the alerts since they are all REAL... BY FAR The best investment for me EVER!!!

Phenomanal Investment and Amazing Radar right out of the box

Mike V. from Colorado Springs, CO on 8/20/2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the radar shortly after receiving my first two speeding tickets. I was highly recommended the Escort and Beltronics Radars. I thoroughly researched the specs and costumer reviews on Crutchfield and decided the Passport 9500ix was an amazing system with great reviews. The AutoLearn Feature is INCREDIBLE. Over time, it eliminates false threats that are commonly found with other radar systems once you have driven by it several times. False alerts are very dangerous because if you begin to disregard all alerts, you may not have the time to respond when the threat of a cops radar is real. All in all, this radar was an incredible investment to me even though I do not speed everywhere, it just makes you feel safe when you need to get somewhere. It makes driving less stressful. I have owned the Escort 9500ix for about three weeks now and has saved me countless times! The range is absolutely incredible! Even when driving at 20 over and through a hilly area, the radar picks up the signal with the slightest frequency and warns me with time to slow down, and drive at that speed before the police vehicle even comes into sight. incredible. Oh, and the preloaded red light camera database is awesome even though they are not in my city but I had a chance to test it out in Denver and it was jaw dropping. Anyways, I thought I owed a thorough review because I am so satisfied. Thanks Escort!

I bought the 9500ix and on the way home it warned me about eight cops before i could even see them. Every time I'de hear the k or ka band alert I see a cop either coming toward me or on the roadside or somewhere in the vicinity. I havent yet downloaded an update and Im sure when i do it will do better than it does now. Ive only had it for a week and I am very happy with it. It has stored false alarm locations to be blocked, when i drive by them now theres no alarm. One thing happened which might be expected since It was raining very hard last week and my speed indicated on the readout was 5 miles faster than i was going. I assume it was the gps signal delayed or something by the clouds and rain. The passport 9500ix is very impressive.

There are so many bells and whistles to play with and the protection you get is awesome, got to love the auto learn feature :D The only thing i don't like and its not that bad of a thing since i don't run red lights is that it does not warn you with ample time about a red light camera 500ft or 400ft. is not sufficient enough warning, on the flip side it is accurate to a dime.

Great Detector

I think this product is just as promised. The previous reviewer must have had some difficulty because I updated my 9500ix in less than 2 minutes in my truck. Updates don't need to be done everyday or even weekly. the range on this beats the BEL rx65 and no more false alerts. If your considering this detector read the forums on-line and not just one persons review. This detector is great.

Escort Passport 9500ix

Anthony from NYC, NY on 2/8/2009

I already own a radar detector and just bought the Escort 9500ix radar. If you go to Escort site, the 90 days free download is free and it doesn't say anywhere on their site you'll have to buy something in order to receive the free 90 days download. Also, if the download is taking you so long to download into the radar, you must be doing something wrong. Because the download is very simple and fast and not complicated at all. The Escort 9500ix is a great radar and the only thing that's missing is the arrows on my old radar. Regarding your false alarm on the 9500ix, you must drive by the same area 3-5 times before it will register into the 9500ix and block it out as a false alert. A lot of people in general who buy a radar detector really don't know how to use it correctly. After using it for a short period of time, certain people will say this radar is not very good and it doesn't work. This is untrue and if everybody just take the time to learn the in and out of the radar then it will work as stated. So, speaking of the Escort 9500ix radar, this is a very nice radar and is recommended to anybody who is looking into buying the best radar out there. I hope this will help.

Big Disappointment!

mjoy from Florida on 12/2/2008

I had high hopes for this product with the download ability, and I figured this was a great advancement in radar detectors. However, I was very wrong! Escort said in order to do the 90 days worth of downloads, I would have to purchase two more items from them. I can not believe after spending this much for a radar detector I would have to purchase more items for this radar detector. After 90 days, Escort asks customers for more money by asking them to buy more downloads. This is frankly ridiculous! The worst part of it is, the downloads are very difficult to do. Instead of making them easy, Escort made the process extremely convoluted and time-consuming! I tried it on my laptop in my car, but it took so long and was so uncomfortable that I decided to cough up the money to buy their download equipment. Furthermore, because of the time needed my laptop battery died. To add insult to injury, Escort controls most of the radar market since it also owns Bel. I truly regret the purchase of this equipment. Finally, I have had numerous false alerts with this product which is unconscionable considering the price!

Technical Information

360-Degree Radar Range And Laser Detection: The Passport 9500ix delivers extreme long-range warning on all radar bands including X, K, Superwide Ka, Ku and instant-on POP modes. Multiple front and rear laser sensors provide 360 degree laser protection, including a wide field of view.

VG-2 Protection: This unit uses a SmartShield VG2 Immunity to make it invisible to radar detector detectors.

TrueLock Signal Rejection: The Passport 9500ix utilizes TrueLock Signal Rejection to eliminate false alerts due to location or certain frequencies. The GPS-powered (SiFRstar III receiver) TrueLock system allows you to simply press the mute button a couple of time and never hear a radar-based automatic door opener or motion sensor alarm again. The patented design captures the location coordinates and the exact frequency of the signal and stores them in memory. Once stored, TrueLock will reject these signals, but is intelligent enough to warn you of a new or different signal in that same locations.

Sensitivity Settings: The Passport 9500ix features 3 radar sensitivity settings.

  • Auto: In Auto mode the unit provides real-time radar performance base on your vehicle's speed. As your vehicle speed increases, the radar sensitivity (X and K-band) is set to maximum range. As your vehicle speed decreases, the radar sensitivity (Xand K-band only) is minimized to further reduce unwanted false alarms. Full sensitivity is maintained on all other bands.
  • Highway: Highway mode provides maximum sensitivity on all bands.
  • City: City modes reduces X-band sensitivity and full sensitivity is maintained on all other bands.

Location Marks: Location Marks store speed traps and other locations in memory. The 9500ix's Mark Location feature allows you to quickly store specific locations in memory. The next time you approach these marked (saved) areas, the Passport 9500ix will provide an alert well in advanced to remind you of the potential speed traps ahead.

AutoLearn: The AutoLearn feature analyzes (over time) the source of radar signals by location and frequency. This allows the Passport 9500ix to determine if a signal is a real threat or a false one. If it determines that the signal is a not a threat, the Passport 9500ix automatically locks out this source at that particular location.

Safety Camera Database: The Passport 9500ix comes pre-loaded with thousands of safety camera locations, including red light and speed-based cameras throughout North America. You can also download updates, back up your data, and stay on top of new threats directly from Escort's website.

Notes: Location Database Updates and Detector Software Updates for the Passport 9500ix require a Windows based computer. (Operating on Windows XP or Vista only)

Variable-Speed Radar: The Passport 9500ix AutoSensitivity mode varies radar sensitivity base on your vehicle's speed resulting in better radar performance.

High-Resolution Display: The radar detector features an ultra-bright red alphanumeric matrix-display with 280 LEDs and 5 brightness levels (Minimum, Medium, Maximum, Auto and Full Dark) to choose from.

3 High-Resolution Meter Modes: The Passport 9500ix provides 3 types of meter displays to choose from:

  • Signal Strength Meter: Standard bar-graph meter that provides information on a single radar signal. If there are multiple signals present, the unit's internal computer will determine which one is the most important threat to display.
  • ExpertMeter: The ExpertMeter is a miniature spectrum analyzer simultaneously tracks up to 8 radar signals. It provides detailed information on up to 2 Ka-band, 2 K-band, and 4 x-band signals.
  • SpecDisplay: In this mode, the unit will display the actual numeric frequency of the radar signal being received.
  • SpeedAlert: The SpeedAlert feature provides vehicle speed during each alert. The radar or laser band, signal strength and your speed are displayed during an alert to help you in your decision process.

Dark Mode: In the Dark mode, the radar detector will dim the display and not show visual alerts.

Safety Warnings: The 9500ix features SWS (Safety Warning System) Technology which displays safety messages on the unit's matrix-display when there is a Safety Warning System (SWS) used in your area. SWS offers over 60 specific safety messages warning you of road hazards in your area.

Crystal-Clear Voice Alerts: The Passport 9500ix provides you with a real voice alert option. In addition to the unit's Geiger-counter-like sound that indicates the signal strength and unique audible tones to identify each alert by band, the unit also feature a voice alert option for crystal clear communication of alerts and user controls.

AutoVolume: The AutoVolume feature automatically adjusts the alert volume based on ambient noise in the vehicle. The 9500ix uses an integrated miniature microphone to monitor ambient noise within the vehicle and will increase the volume level automatically to ensure you can hear the unit's alerts.

Auto Mute: After the initial audible alert, the volume is automatically reduced, so you need not manually mute the sound. This feature can be defeated.

Mute Button: Once an alarm sounds, it can be silenced using the mute button.

Earphone jack: There is a standard 3.5mm earphone jack on the left side of the unit.

USB Data Port: The unit features a USB data on the right side of the unit which allows you to backup your TrueLock data and other software related functions.

SmartCord Cigarette Lighter Adapter: The supplied cigarette lighter plug has an alert LED that lights even when the unit is in the Dark mode and a mute button in case the unit is not within easy reach.

AutoPower: This feature automatically turns the Passport off if the vehicle has not moved for 4 hours.

Easy Mounting Bracket: The radar detector comes supplied with an EasyMount windshield bracket that is designed for unobtrusive and hassle-free mounting. The bracket clips onto the top of the 9500ix and suction-cup mounts to your windshield. The 9500ix features a release button that will allow you to remove the 9500ix from the bracket while still leaving the suction-cup window mount bracket in place.
