Our take on the Delphi SA10116 Indoor XM Signal Repeater

Want to listen to your XM radio in your bedroom, but you can only receive the satellite signal from your living room window? Delphi's XM signal repeater can help you solve that problem. It lets you "bounce" the XM signal into just about any room in the house (or office), so you can listen to XM wherever you want.

Want to listen to your XM radio in your bedroom, but you can only receive the satellite signal from your living room window? Delphi's XM signal repeater can help you solve that problem. It lets you "bounce" the XM signal into just about any room in the house (or office), so you can listen to XM wherever you want.

This repeater package includes a transmitter, an antenna, and a power adapter. The original antenna for your satellite radio plugs into the transmitter, sending the transmitter the XM signal. The transmitter then beams the signal to the antenna included in this package, which sits in another room and connects to your satellite radio. The transmitter can even broadcast the signal to your radio through walls, up to 75 feet away. And the sleek design of the transmitter and antenna blends well with your other home stereo components. You can also add optional antennas for increased signal strength in multiple rooms in your home.

The antenna and repeater work just fine. You do have to be careful here in Florida living in homes with CBS walls and chopped up floor plans. Signal quickly weakens when going through concrete block.

Delphi XM signal repeater

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Reduced XM signal due to new windows got me to look at this unit. It was purchased along with a Terk XM6 antenna and a 25-foot length of Arista RG/6 cable. The antenna is mounted to a rafter in an attic with the transmitter about two feet away on its keyhole slots. It produces a good, strong signal up to about 100 feet in any direction. There appear to be no signal artifacts associated with the down-conversion and up-conversion and it doesn't affect any of the Amateur equipment in the house. I will be purchasing an additional remote receiver to be used with a second XM unit. All in all, this is a well-made and nicely-functioning product.

This is a great product. Not only did it keep me from having to run my antenna wire halfway across my house, from the south side over to where my stereo is, but with a little ingenuity, I was able to attach the receiver antenna to my Inno's base station. That allows me to use my Inno (on it's base station) anywhere in my house. That saved me from having to buy a second base station for my workshop.

Delphi SA10116 Indoor XM Signal Repeater

Haston from Traverse City, MI on 1/25/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I use my signal repeater in a machine shop. There is lots of metal, running machinery, a wireless router in the vacinity as well as some wireless headphone transmitters. It is very sensitive but, I do get two bars and on occasion 3 on my xm delphi II tuner. I need little to none obstructions in between the transmitter and receiver. It isn't perfect but consider all the possible interferences it does the job. I'm satisfied.

This product does what it says. I wanted to be able to listen to XM radio throughout my house, both upstairs and down. It REALLY does work through walls like it claims. I would like to point out however, I installed a Terk XM-6 outdoor antenna and ran the cable into the house and attached it to the signal repeater transmitter. Then I attached the signal repeater itself to the XM radio. I have three bars of signal (that's the strongest signal) anywhere in my house all the time. You can purchase additional repeaters from Delphi and have them setup in other rooms ready to go. If you don't mind moving just the one repeater around the house then you can of course save on the expense of additional repeaters. If you truly listen to a lot of XM radio like I do, then the initial expense is well worth it.

Delphi XM Repeater

In my residential application - wood frame construction house - this system transmits the wireless signal 65 feet and through two walls and one wood cabinet flawlessly. It does not interfere with my cordless phones or wireless internet, nor they with it.

No range, 10' line of sight

Jeff from Indiana on 4/7/2007

I have tried 2 of these units & did decide to keep the second one only b/c it did work enough to get by but not the way I would like it to. First off the range is very small, I can get only 10' line of sight before the signal is NOT picked up by the wireless receiver. This has happened on 2 units the first I thought was damaged b/c it had no range so I returned it only to find out the range was the same on both units. If I put the wireless transmitter around the corner of a wall it won't be picked up by the receiver antenna. I was hoping to get rid of the antenna wire that was running across the floor to a point the antenna could get a signal. As it is now w/the repeater antenna I have to still run a antenna wire to the point in the apt. I can get a decent signal. I do live in an apt. but this is exactly what the repeater was designed for & in my opinion it is not working as advertised, especially for the price. A 10' range line of sight is not worth the high price.
As a side note if you have any A/V wireless transmitters or wireless phones that operate on the 900MHz band there will be interference.

Absolutely perfect

Andrzej from Milwaukee, WI on 8/24/2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Absolutely perfect. I have one unit at home (where I have 3 XP receivers) and one in my office (where I am using portable AirWave). Contrary to previous reviev there is no danger of interferences with computer newtorks - repeater works on 900MHz, much below the WiFi frequency. Setup was easy, not more than just taking out of the box. Range is pretty good - I live in duplex house and my neighbors have to problems with listening to my repeater :) Highly recommended!

Works well, but be aware of limitations and potential consequences

Bill from Erie, PA on 1/2/2006

If you're considering the "repeater antenna," you've likely already purchased a XM radio and are having reception difficulties in your home. As you now know, the regular antenna for XM radio must be placed in a south-facing location for the best reception.

As my media room is at the north end of my house and has only north-facing windows, I couldn't receive any signal with the external antenna for a XM MyFi radio. After installing the repeater in a south-facing window, it provided a strong signal in my media room even though the repeater antenna was placed about 50 feet away. (In case it's relevant to your application, I live in an older home that was built like a bunker. The walls are constructed with metal sheathing covered with plaster and there are five such walls between the repeater antenna and the media room.) Thus, the repeater antenna clearly works.

There are two concerns that one should know. First, only one repeater antenna comes with the $170 repeater unit. Thus, one needs to purchase a separate repeater antenna (%50-70) for every additional radio that you want to connect to the repeater unit. (Of course, you'll also need to pay a separate monthly subscription fee (currently $12.95 for the first radio and $6.95 monthly for each additional unit) to XM for each radio connected to the repeater antenna.)

The second potential consequence is that the repeater's signal can disrupt some wireless computer networks. I've not experienced this problem, but know others have.

Despite these potential costs and limitations, the XM Repeater has worked well in my application.

Features

Overview: The Delphi XM Signal Repeater allows you to place your XM tuner in a location with no direct satellite access. The repeater system has two parts; the repeater, which is placed in a location accessible to your home XM antenna (sold separately), and the repeater antenna which is plugged into your satellite tuner.

Repeater: The repeater has an input for connection to your home XM antenna; once your XM antenna is placed with direct access to satellite signals, the repeater has to be located within reach of your antenna's cable. The repeater requires power, so the included AC adapter must be plugged into an electrical outlet.

Repeater Antenna: The repeater antenna can be placed up to 75 feet from the repeater. The repeater antenna requires no power supply so its attached 58" cable simply plugs into your XM tuner. Additional repeater antennae can be purchased (item # 040SA10117), and one repeater can feed as many antennae as you'd like, as long as they are placed within its range.

Specifications

Frequency: This wireless repeater operates in the 900 MHz range.
