Sanus NF18 Speaker Stands
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Well made, easy to assemble and handsome. Perfect for my small speakers.
High-performance speakers deserve high-performance stands. From top to bottom, Sanus' latest wood speaker stands combine fine furniture looks with ultra-rigid construction for solid support and optimum sound quality.
Each base and top plate is made of anti-resonant MDF and has a smooth low-luster black finish. Brass speaker studs and neoprene pads are included to isolate the speaker from the top plate. Plastic feet for the underside of the base plate protect wood or tile floors (adjustable carpet spikes also included). A patented concealed speaker wire path on the rounded support pillar keeps cables out of sight. Assembly takes just minutes.

Well made, easy to assemble and handsome. Perfect for my small speakers.
Great Product, Well Built...
These arrived a few days before the estimated delivery time. Took me about 5 minutes to put them together and get the speakers in place. Not only does everything now look a lot better, the difference in sound is amazing. The 18" version was the perfect height for my needs. I used the supplied carpet spikes which worked great for my shorter carpet.
Pros: Compact, good quality. Really make a big difference to the sound.
Cons: None really.
Nice stands. Got my speakers off the floor with style. Not only do they look better , they sound better .
Very pleased with the quality and construction of these great speaker stands!
Pros: Great price and exceptionally well made.
The stands worked exactly as advertised. They were very simple to put together and with a little patience the cable concealer went right into place.
Pros: Nice clean look, simple to put together and a perfect match for my set up
Love my new Sanus speaker stands, they were easy to put together, and the price was excellent! Nothing bad to say about them at all.
Pros: The info said when you use your speakers the sound will get better and better as you use them, boy were they right! They are exceptional!!! :)
Stands look great and seem to be well made. I did have a little trouble when I was assembling one of the stands. The predrilled screw hole was to large or the wood to soft but the screw would not tighten up. I simply used a longer screw and that did the trick. Overall a nice stand.
Pros: Look great
Cons: Wish they included different length carpet spikes
I thought that the Sanus NF18 Speaker Stands were designed specifically for each of the Bookshelf speakers to fit within the stand, with grooves or slots to go into each four holes of the speakers. In the future Crutchfield may want to get back with me on this BIG IDEA. for product approval. The speakers do sit on top of each of the pointed spikes provided by SANUS. I think that that does make a big difference in the sound quality of the speakers...For richer, smoother, more lush clarity...as for security though, NOT A GOOD IDEA for the speakers to be just sitting on top of the stands without FURTHER SECURITY for each of the BOOKSHELF speakers to sit upon.
Pros: Nice looking speaker stands.
Cons: The speaker wire is not easily able to be concealed on the rear of the stands.
Meets expectations! Pretty good for the price.
Stand is sturdy and easy to put together. Looks simple and modern. Should go with any decor. Like the fact that the cables can be hidden. However, the plastic that hides the cables is a bit cheap and difficult to install. Comes with spiked or rubber feet options for speaker and bottom of stand. I would recommend
Pros: Looks good. Stable.
Cons: Cable cover a little difficult to install and a bit cheap, but it does do the job.
The Sanus natural 18" speaker stands are the perfect size to get my Klipsch RB-61 speakers up off the floor, but not too high for these medium sized speakers. They come very well packed, and are easy to assemble. The "cherry" finish looks good with our furniture and built in bookcases in the living room, and matches pretty well the cherry veneer on the Klipsch speakers. The stands are very sturdy, even with relatively heavy speakers sitting on them. Very pleased!
Pros: Sturdy, good looking, easy to assemble.
Cons: Wish the cherry stands were the same (lower) price as the black ones!
Thank you, they look beautiful in my living room.
I'm giving these 3 stars (and even that is slightly generous). On a positive note, these are not bad looking and they are pretty easy to assemble. Essentally four screws - 2 for the top plate and 2 for the bottom plate. Then the feet - and you have a choice of carpet spikes or rubber feet, both are included. Now for the bad. The spindle or column is pre-drilled with 2 holes in the bottom (for the bottom plate) and 2 holes in the top. The bottom screws are larger than the top and the pre-drilled holes for the bottom are too small. This causes to the column to split when assembling it. This isn't rocket science, but I was two for two in splitting the columns. Fortunately Crutchfield shipped a replacement with no hassles. This time I drilled out the holes just slightly larger, and had no problems with the wood splitting. The other issue I have is the stands are a bit wobbly. They are fine when left alone, but if touch them they will sway. I don't mean rock, like the feet are uneven, I mean sway, like poorly designed. I'm not sure if this makes them any easier to knock over, but you would think a few pieces of wood for the money could be built a little sturdier. My speakers are 25 lbs., which admittedly is right up to the limit for these stands. But it is within their specs. And these are the 18" versions. I would imagine the taller ones are worse. If the metal stands weren't so expensive, I'm thinking that is the probably the way to go.
Pros: Nice looking. Getting speakers off the floor provides for better sound.
Cons: Poorly designed. Wood splits when assembly, stands are wobbly.
Really nice. Easy to assemble. ...solid...good looking. Fast shipping. Great value.
Very nice and simple, fits in perfect with our decor, price is right.
Pros: Easy to assemble
Cons: Non that I can think of
These stands are very nice and well worth the cost.
Easy to assemble, looks great and do what they are supposed to do; put speakers off the floor, but not too high.
Pros: Good value & well made
Love these stands, they are beautifully finished in cherry and perfectly match and support my Polk tsi 200 bookshelf speakers.
Pros: Look great, firmly supports my Polks.
These stands are nice and sturdy. Calling them cherry is a bit misleading, The vertical posts are some type of natural wood with a solid stain color that is a bit redder than brown. The wire management system is acceptable. I had hoped that the base could be oriented in either direction because the shelf that they had to go on was only about 9-1/2" deep but the only orientation that is really going to work is with the long side in the front to back direction. I ended up drilling new holes for the front spikes so the bottom hangs over the front of the ledge. They still look pretty good. The platforms are actually bigger than optimum for my Definitive Technologies ProMontor 1000s. The stands have short spikes to mount in the top of the platform if your speaker is larger than it but I had to leave these off and so there are holes in all four corners that the speakers can't cover. Really no way to hide those.
Pros: Keep speakers from hitting the floor
Cons: I had a couple of fit issues due to my speakers and where I needed to put the stands.
Very nice looking stands. Got two sets so all my surround speakers are at the same height. Love them!!!
Pros: Simple to assemble.
These work great. I have Polk TSI200s on them. Very sturdy. Like how the wire is hidden.
Pros: Attractive. Sturdy. Cool channel for cables easy assembly.
The stand works exactly as expected. Easy to assemble, good solid construction, and nice features to hide the wiring.
Pros: Solid construction, nice appearance, easy to assemble, can hide wiring.
Great stands. Look very clean and hold Polk speakers perfectly
Great looking product, fast delivery and great price.
Pros: The cherry veneer blends with rest of furniture.
Cons: This stand isn't tall enough, I should have ordered a taller size.
Stands came in only about three days. Easy to put together, seems to be very stable. Good appearance.
These are well made stands, they elevate the speakers so they sound so much better than being on the floor, and they look great too.
Pros: They boost the overall sound coming from the speakers.
Cons: None so far.
The speaker stands are attractive and very easy to assemble, even for someone who has limited skills in this area!
Pros: Cherry wood post is nice looking; instructions were clear; all the parts were included!
Cons: Can't think of any.
These stands work well with my living room Infinity RS4001's. These speakers are about as heavy as possible for these stands, but they work very well.
Pros: Appearance and function
Easy assembly, very attractive and perfect height for my Book shelf speakers.
Pros: Color blends end. Attractive very stable, nice wire hiding.
Got these for a pair of vintage Ohm L bookshelf speakers. (20" h x12" w x10" d).
Pros: well made, easy to assemble, stylish looks
Cons: would like to see a slight improvement in rigidity, and leveling adjustment on the feet.
The stands are a tremendous compliment to my cherry Klipsch RB61 speakers. They have immensely improved my soundstage..
Pros: They cherry matches the cherry speakers perfectly. Having the speakers up off the floor has allowed the music to envelope my entire room, I probably should have gotten the 24 inch size instead of the 18 because the speakers now sit a few inches below ear level.
Cons: The speaker wire compartment on the back is worthless.
Great looking speakers. Seriously, they brought my whole setup up a notch with it's elegant and sleek look. Got the Sanus 18" on Cherry and the color is really nice, matches almost perfectly my Polk Cherry speakers. Assembly is a piece of cake. Takes you 20 min to do it calmly and you hardly need the instructions. Packaging was perfect was well, perfectly sealed, with foam inside protecting everything. All the hardware for the assembly was nicely identified. The wire track in the back was easy to install and I didn't think it was flimsy at all. Remember to install the wire track before mounting on the bottom or top plates and it'll be way easier. Why I gave it 4 stars? I Bought this stands mainly to reduce vibrations between my speakers and the floor. I have carpeted floors but the speakers can rattle a bit too much sometimes and you can feel it on the carpet a few feet away from the speakers. I live in a townhome and I wanted to make sure my set up would not disturb the neighbors. Well, there was hardly any difference in reducing the vibrations after installing the stands with the carpet spikes on them. I'm not upset with the purchase at all, it's a great little addition to my setup and is aesthetically pleasing, but just didn't function the way I intended. I will need to get a par of isolation pads to mount in between the stands and the speakers and hopefully that would reduce the vibrations. Of course the isolation pads will add another $50 or so to your investment.
Pros: Beautiful design, sturdy stands, rich Cherry color, easy to assemble, high quality product.
Cons: They did not reduce the vibrations between the speakers and the carpeted floor.
Good product for the price. Assembly instructions could be a bit more informative. Had to reattach one top shelf so the bottom and top were square.
Pros: clean appearance, small footprint. wiring cover works well
Cons: no major cons
I recieved the product in just a couple days and was in fine shape after shipping. The instructions were very simple and I did discover a simple trick for installing the speaker wire channel which hides the speaker wire going up from the base of the speaker stand to the speaker itself. If you would mount the bottom base of the stand to the main vertical upright first, then the act of installing the sheet of vinyl provided for the speaker wire cover to the main upright will be made simple. Start by putting a slight curve or bend in the vinyl and insert it into the slots already made on the main upright of the stand. With a light push with one hand and the other hand putting a light squeeze on the viynl to help it be made into a radius, you can then safely install the speaker wire cover without it becoming bent or kinked. Finally you can then mount the top plate for the speaker to sit on.
Pros: Easily assembled and looks great with our cherry finished Polk Audio speakers. I will be ordering this item again right away for another set of Polk Audio' s cherry finish speakers.
Cons: None at this time
Cheap, sturdy, easy to assemble, attractive. All-in-all, very good, EXCEPT for the absurd flexible plastic backing that's supposed to hide cables. It's just a bad idea. I finally gave up on it - the plastic, which you bend into a 'U', kept springing out of the guide-slits. Poorly thought out wire management notwithstanding, they do the job. Mine have the cherry pillars and the black base and black platform for the speakers: very attractive.
Pros: Cheap, sturdy, attractive, very easy to assemble.
Cons: Really tricky and badly-thought out wire management.
I used these at a gig with my band to hold two lunch box amps. They were easy to assemble, light to move and stable.
After years of having my Mission 701s on the floor, I decided to finally get some quality stands. What a difference!! Clearer bass, more focussed soundstage!!
Pros: Improved sound
I enjoy a range of music, from delicate classical to driving sixties, but at moderate loudness. I needed something to increase the bass and bring out the softer sound details from my living room quad system, which consists of two 3-foot high speakers and two 1-foot-high speakers which sit directly on the wood floor. Upon raising the two smaller speakers off the floor by putting them on these speaker stands, the difference in sound was striking. Furthermore, this kit was easy to put together - about 25 minutes.
Pros: Negates the need for increased volume.
Solidly built, finished well, good product
Pros: Well built, easy to assemble
These speaker stands a attractive and well built. I assembled the two stands in 15 min. The included rubber feet for the base work well on hardwood floor. The cherry color wood is a little lighter than I expected but is nice.
Pros: Well built, wires are concealed, choice of hardware for carpet or hardwood floor
Cons: No complaints.
These are great little speaker stands. I really like the price considering how nice these look. They come with both carpet spikes and rubber feet for hard floors. They were easy to put together. I also really liked the channel in the back to hide the wires which keeps things looking neat.
Pros: Price, Value and Funtionality
Looking to replace some stands that were a few inches too short, without spikes and showing a bit of wear, I decided to go with these Sanus 18" stands. They are nicely finished but not glossy piano black. They are glossy paint, not a glossy lacquer you would see on a piano. The stands are very easy to assemble, although the flexible strip that hides the speaker cord can be a bit tricky. I have only a couple minor issues that may only apply to me. The top part of the stand (that holds the speaker) has a hole pre-drilled in order to fish the speaker cable up through. This will only work for relatively small speakers. Larger speakers cover the hole and there is not enough clearance between the support mechanisms (small spikes or adhesive vinyl) and the speaker to allow their use. The other issue is the support spikes themselves. Those on the bottom work well on the carpet. The option to spike the top platform makes no sense to me. At best, with heavy speakers you will leave an imprint. I communicated this issue to both Sanus and Crutchfield and received a quick, in depth response from both. While my B & W speakers are under the recommended weight the stands were designed for, the combinations seems a bit top heavy to me. I would say these are attractive stands, but would work best with lighter (<15 lbs.) speakers with a footprint no bigger than the top platform.
Pros: Attractive, easy to assemble, properly priced.
Cons: Less suitable for larger, heavier speakers.
Exactly what I expected from your description; good value
The stands meet the needs I had for bookshelf speakers and are a very good value for the price. They arrived in good shape and everything worked fine.
Cons: none really
These stands were exactly what I needed for my new bookshelf-size speakers -- quality and design was excellent, instructions were good, product matched exactly what was advertised.
small stands..easy to put together..my sister helped!
Pros: perfect for my speakers and small room
Very nice looking speaker stands. Easy to assemble. Seem like they're solid and will last a long time. First shipment shipped in the Sanus product box. Sanus makes better speaker stands than they do boxes, it seems, because the stands arrived pretty beat up. Crutchfield was apologetic and quick on a reship, this time packed with a ton of packing peanuts. Thanks, Crutchfield!
I have been very pleased with this purchase. They blend in to the living room well, and are high quality stands. Only complaint is that one of the stands did not have the holes drilled in the top to place the brass speaker studs into, so was forced to use the speaker pads instead. Other than that, I highly recommend.
After searching the web for a long time, found these simple speaker stands on the Crutchfield website. They met my need perfectly. The entire process from ordering through delivery took no more than a week. The free shipping was an added incentive. I'm completely satisfied with my Crutchfield experience and will undoubtedly use them in the future.
The stand is very sturdy and matched up perfect with my cherry finish speakers. I am very pleased with my purchase.
These stands are first of all sturdy. They have a nice black finish that looks professional. They are easy to assemble and really look nice with the Infinity 160 bookshelf speakers I recently purchased. The carpet spikes are nice and the larger top plate provided better support for my larger surround speakers.<BR><BR>My only gripe, albeit a minor one, is that I wish these stands had height-adjustable plastic feet, because on of my speaker stands is on tile floor. This made it a little annoying when trying to find the perfect spot to keep it from rocking (probably poor construction in my house ha!).
Design: Each base is made of anti-resonant MDF finished with three coats of hand-sanded black lacquer. Adjustable floor spikes are included to provide stable footing on carpeted floors, and to further minimize resonance. A single sturdy black pillar supports the low-profile top plate, which features a choice of neoprene isolation pads or brass isolation studs. Plastic wire covers give your speaker stands a neater look by concealing the wires completely.
Spiked Feet: The spiked feet pierce the carpeting and anchor the stand to the floor, keeping the speaker stable and reducing resonance. With the spiked feet installed, the stand height is adjustable from 17.75" to 18". Note: If you do not wish to use the spiked feet, Sanus has included plastic feet that will not scratch your floor.
Brass Studs: These upward facing brass studs hold the speaker stable and minimize resonance.
Neoprene Pads: The sharp points on the brass studs can scratch the bottom of the speaker. If this is of concern, you can use the supplied neoprene pads to stabilize the speaker.
Weight Capacity: Each speaker stand can support up to 25 lbs.
Top Shelf Dimension: The top shelf is 7-3/8" wide and 7-3/8" deep.

Use the rubber stick-on tabs included with the speakers in plce of the brass carpet posts. [ KEVIN Feb 15, 2014 ]
There are no top shelf spikes. If you are refering to the brass carpet spikes they are attached to the base. If I did not answer your question then please re-submit with more detail Ok I see from the photo what you mean-the 2 pair I bought had rubber self stick that are applied when you assemble the stand-not.the brass ones pictured here. Since all hardware is included in a seperate bubble pack I would think you would need to attach those brass corner pieces. I don't think they are spikes, they look roumded to me. Brass is actually better to absorb vibration than rubber. You should not be concerned that your speaker will vibrate off the stand. [ KEVIN Feb 14, 2014 ]
Yes. They are. [ Patrick Feb 01, 2014 ]
Yes, I was able to remove one with a pair of small pliers. Note: the speaker wire is routed through the center of the stand so if you remove the small spikes you will have to replace with rubber feet or something else in order for the speaker to be stable with the wire underneath... [ the guy who needed a new chain Jan 28, 2014 ]
I can't help you , they are in my summer home and I will not be back there for about 5 VERY long and cold months, but if I recall they were removable. Love the stands they work well... [ ERIC L Jan 27, 2014 ]
Not sure if my response was recorded. Spikes are not installed. You can use the sticky pads supplied. Or use velcro tape for a more secure installation. The pads supplied work fine for me. [ ERIK Jan 27, 2014 ]
The spikes are not installed. I did not use them, simply put the speakers onto the flat surface using the supplied sticky pads. If you are worried about them staying put I suppose some velcro tape would hold them in place. Mine don't get jostled or hit or whatever and seem secure enough just using the sticky pads, 4 small triangles per speaker, as supplies. [ ERIK Jan 27, 2014 ]
Don't know. Did not try to modify. Used exactly as supplied. Like the stands. Would purchase again. Sorry cannot address specific point queried. [ ROBERT V Jan 27, 2014 ]
Thank you fine gentlemen,I do appreciate the answers. [ MICHAEL T Jan 27, 2014 ]
yes,you install them yourself . [ RICHARD S Jan 27, 2014 ]
yes. It also come with pads to put on the top shelf which is what I used instead of the spikes. [ Randall Jan 27, 2014 ]
Great stands very happy with them. Yes the spikes u can remove. [ RICK Jan 27, 2014 ]
Yes. You have the option of using the adhesive vinyl tabs or you can use your own. [ MICHAEL Jan 27, 2014 ]
Hi Michael, I believe that the spikes don't come pre-intalled and are an option. I use the supplied rubber pads for the pedestal shelf that the speaker sits on. I hope that helps, and let me know if you have any more questions. Brian [ BRIAN J Jan 27, 2014 ]
I would have to say no. Clearly stated in the discription they say 25 pounds is limit. If you like your speakers why risk it? [ LINDSEY CLYDE Jan 12, 2017 ]
Most of us just put the speakers on top of stand and not fastened together .My vote is it would be too unstable and your foot or child would suffer. [ Vernon Jan 12, 2017 ]
Yes they would be fine. I think the stands look great [ Jeff Jan 11, 2017 ]
As long as the speakers are less than 25 pounds each they will work great with this speaker stand. [ Jeff Jan 31, 2014 ] Staff
