Poor design and installation instructions

Brandon from Houston, TX on 8/21/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this product with high hopes that it would provide for an easy installation as well as work well within my wall to provide a clean look for hiding some components. The product itself is a very cheap piece of plastic. For this price, I do not see quality in this box. I also feel that it was poorly engineered. Additionally, the template that is provided does NOT work for installation. First, the template size is too small to get the box into the wall. I had to expand my cuts vertically. Second, the template is a perfect rectangle. If you look at the back of the box, there are many notches as well as anchors that sit outside of the template box that have to go thru the wall as well. I had to make special cut outs in my dry wall in order to get the box into the wall. It feels functional now, but I'm not too happy with the installation an mess I made within my drywall. I had to fabricate extensively to get the box into the wall. If you're a novice, you may want to look at other products as this particular product was not easy to install, nor did I find the directions accurate to the installation process. I'm attaching pictures. If you look at my photos, I ran into issues installing on the left side of the wall mount due to horizontal studs. If you have a stud finder you'll have to run it sideways up and down your wall in order to pick these guys up. The box only works with standard 16 inch stud spaces. Make sure yours are exactly 16 inches.

Pros: Large to allow for ample space with components.

Cons: Poor installation instructions. Difficult install. Cheaply made.

Good but template to cut hole is not big enough. Had to expand cut to fit.

Good idea, still needs a little work

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought with SA206 power ecosystem mini. I like that the box is preset to accept the power unit. Plenty of space to mount several components. Make the wiring nice and neat. Rim is a little large to work with Sanus wall mount that I have.

Pros: Keeps everything nice and neat.

Cons: Had to cut part of the rim to use my wall mount.

Features

Recessed Component Box: The Sanus SA809 large recessed component box was specially designed for use with the SA206 SANUS EcoSystem Mini (sold separately) for an additional power source. Its space-saving design keeps components and cables neat, making it perfect for use with wall-mounted TVs. Includes three AC outlet spaces to allow power to be integrated and cables to be concealed as well as an elastic strap for holding and organizing up to six small components. A removable component panel allows component organizing before and after installation.

ECO-Mini Bracket Compatible: The SA809 recessed component box features a "knock-out" opening and comes with a mounting to bracket to install the Sanus ECO-Mini bracket (051SA206, sold separately).

AC Outlet Box Compatible: The SA809 also includes three other "knock-out" openings which allow the installation of up to three UL listed 120 VAC electrical outlet boxes (sold separately).

Security Straps: The two included elastic straps are used to attach and secure components inside the housing.

Applications: The SA809 can be installed behind most large wall plates of wall-mounts or underneath or above most small wall plates. To access the SA809 after installation, disconnect all cables and wires from the TV, then either slide or remove the arm or TV mount from the wall plate.

Mounting: The recessed component box must be mounted between studs that are at least 16" apart; drywall covering the wall must not exceed 5/8". After installation there will not be enough space between the SA809 and the studs for electrical wires/cables, plumbing, ductwork, or insulation.

David, this box is made of very sturdy plastic.[ George  Apr 28, 2017 ]
plastic, be sure to cut the box with enough room , JUST so it fits into the hole... It has wings that deploy as you tighten them to hold it in place. dont screw up or youll end up drilling and placing wall anchors as I did..[ david  Apr 28, 2017 ]
It is plastic. [ Michael  Apr 28, 2017 ]
It's made of plastic.[ James  Apr 28, 2017 ]
I installed vertical because of studs, so make sure you at least have room for that width.[ Robert  Apr 29, 2016 ]
I believe so , the remodel style clamp type brackets will hold it and as in my case by placing the flush end against a stud and using screws I believe it will be just fine[ BRENT  Apr 22, 2016 ]
